I’ve been going to this club for about a year - the pool area is awesome!! Best pool area, hands down!!

Unfortunately, it appears LA fitness management is not doing a good job at all … as this is the second club off of Telegraph Rd that’s been closed.

LA fitness management closed the club off of Telegraph, just north of 18-mile road a couple years ago. Now this club in Southfield. What’s going on??!! Seriously!?

I sent the above response saying the LA Fitness management is doing a very poor job as they have closed two clubs in my area … to receive the response “we hope to be exceeding your expectations “.
Are you kidding me! NO - you’re NOT even meeting my expectations.

Seriously - the current owners are completely out of touch! Very disappointing. I’ve been a member for a couple decades and it a shame the management is doing such a poor job in some areas.

I just heard sad news about the Southfield location shutting down permanently. It was where i signed-up 14 years ago, and over the years I would come workout when visiting. It was always one of the top clubs in the country, IMO. This is why it’s surprising about the closure.

Went for a free gym day. Called and they said to come in. I get there and they say to fill out the form online. Alright, so I workout a bit and try the pool. Stay for about 2 hours. I like the facility and was planning on coming back. Then on my way out I ask about personal training, and the guy tells me the place is permanently closing at the end of the month?! Like why the hell did no one say anything when I called or walked in. I mean it makes sense if they're closing but still - ridiculous.

Large lot at this busy LA Fitness. There's a basketball court,pool,sauna,exercise and spinning classes and racquetball courts.
Many newer machines recently though some were previously used from a premium LA Fitness I believe. This site has been open a long time and is clean though a refresh is overdue if I'm being picky.
The staff is good though it seems at times they do double duty like when they don't have female locker room staff.

The costumer service of LA fitness is ridiculous! Think twice before enrole with LA membership. The app don't offer you the option for cancel. The unit only give you a phone number for a place in Califórnia. You call them and always have a message saying that they are closed. Be aware when you decide to cancel your membership, it will be a nightmare!

Dirty. When you walk in the door it literally smells like dirty socks. Broken Equipment. Pool and hot tub out of service. The staff and the people working out inside were all very nice, but it had the feeling of a place that will be closing down soon. (November 2024 - and i see other reviews from several months ago about the hot tub etc being broken, so its either a common problem or one that never gets fixed)

This location has some of the best water aerobics instructors in the morning. I drive almost 30 minutes just to attend classes at this location. Management makes poor decisions. Recently the water aerobics has been canceled for days. Because someone complained about the pool being cold. It has been cold for years. Nothing new. Heck all La Fitness pools are cold. They have a sign that says temporary closed but it’s not closed people are still swimming in the pool. I actually got in. So why cancel classes. Instead put a sign that says the pool is very cold this season swim at your leisure. We could still do water aerobics. This is the only reason I have a membership is for water aerobics and the hot tub. Do better with this club please. Nobody has closed the pool for this reason but you. The hot tub has been down for months

This location in Southfield is long overdue for a thorough deep cleaning. I've seen the same stains and spider webs on the same walls and in the same corners for months now. The cycle room and fitness class studio needs much attention. I've discussed this with management and their corporate leadership but no results. The location is incredibly convenient but not always worth it depending on how you utilize your LA Fitness membership. I enjoy the classes so I keep my membership. The fitness classes with Peri and Shawn are really good, lively and fun. I venture to the Livonia/Middlebelt location which is much cleaner for a better experience when I want to use weight machines or free weights. The Southfield location parking lot is plagued with potholes and no one has addressed this for years now. Makes no sense

How much contempt do you have to have for your customer to leave balls of hair in the shower drain, blood and dried crust on the shower curtains, nasty encrusted toothpaste in the sinkbowls, filthy urinals that wreak due to lack of disinfecting in the women's locker room then hound people to pay membership fees. It's utterly filthy and a health hazard at this point. When you walk into the women's locker room it smells like feet. Disgusting.

This gym is poorly maintained. Women's room has had broken toilets for months. Most sinks do not have soap in the dispensers. Equipment is worn and dated. Classroom floor and mirrors are rarely cleaned. The outside is riddled with trash and the shrubs are so overgrown you can't walk on the sidewalk to the entrance. People park in front instead of in the parking lot. This gym is reality an unkept mess.

The most disgusting gym I’ve ever been to . Yuck.. the machines were dirty , filthy , there were peanuts and sunflower seeds in then cup holders and chips and sweaty napkins in some .. staff not friendly at all… was suppose to be given a tour .. none of that happen. Most of the cardio equipment was pretty gross, other than that the rest of the gym is OK but not clean by any standards. The reason I felt the need to write a review was actually because of the person working the front desk who signed my friend and I up at this location. He was acting friendly that first day but we didn't think much of it. Later that week though, he went up to my friend in the middle of her warmup and insisted on taking her to all the different machines and showing her how they worked, completely and totally unprompted. My friend felt uncomfortable and agreed at first but at some point cut this whole gym tour short and went back to her workout.

This same guy later in the week CHASED ME DOWN INTO THE PARKING LOT and asked for my number, my instagram, the whole thing. Totally unprofessional coming from someone working at that gym and definitely put me in an uncomfortable situation. Unnecessary and unprofessional behavior from this staff member.

I recently had the unfortunate experience of visiting this gym that can only be described as a complete disaster. The dirty conditions, terrible employees, and lack of quality equipment made it a nightmare from start to finish. I feel obligated to share my review and warn others about the abysmal state of this facility.

Upon entering the gym, I was immediately struck by the overwhelming filth that permeated the entire space. It was evident that cleanliness was not a priority for the management or staff. The locker rooms were even worse, with foul odors, unkempt showers, and dirty, stained walls. I couldn't help but feel disgusted and uncomfortable in such an unsanitary environment.

To make matters worse, the gym's employees were unprofessional and apathetic. It seemed as though they had no interest in assisting or guiding members. Whenever I approached them with questions or concerns, they displayed a blatant lack of knowledge and disinterest in providing any sort of help. Their customer service skills were non-existent, leaving me feeling frustrated and ignored. It was abundantly clear that the staff had no motivation to create a positive and supportive atmosphere for gym-goers.

The equipment at this gym was another disappointment. Most of the machines were outdated, in disrepair, or simply non-functional. I encountered treadmills that were stuck at one speed, weight machines with broken cables, and dumbbells that were missing their pairs. It was an accident waiting to happen. Not only did the faulty equipment hinder my workout, but it also raised concerns for my safety. It was evident that the gym had no intention of investing in quality equipment or maintaining what they already had.

To add insult to injury, the prices for this subpar gym were shockingly high. It was mind-boggling how they could justify charging such exorbitant fees for a facility that clearly lacked the most basic standards of cleanliness, employee professionalism, and equipment maintenance. It felt like a complete rip-off, and I couldn't help but feel cheated out of my hard-earned money.

In summary, I strongly advise against setting foot in this disastrous gym. The dirty conditions, terrible employees, and lack of quality equipment make it a complete waste of time and money. Save yourself the frustration and disappointment by seeking out a gym that prioritizes cleanliness, employs knowledgeable and helpful staff, and maintains their equipment to ensure a safe and pleasant workout environment. This gym falls far short of even the most basic expectations and should be avoided at all costs.

All of the equipment looked like a tetanus shot waiting to happen, and as a small, and young female I just didn't feel safe. 90% of the machines are old and rusted.
I counted at least 3 with Out of Order signs and 2 more that didn't work but didn't have signs.
The air filtration is horrible and because of it the whole gym smells very musty. As you would imagine a room would smell with a lot of people all working out at the same time.
The basketball court smells even worse. You smell it just walking past.

I was scheduled to meet with one of the trainers last Friday morning and she no showed. I left my name and number and I have yet to here from her. One of the staff was really nice and apologetic about the situation. He agreed to talk with the training director about me getting that session credited back to my account since the trainer no showed. I followed up Tuesday. I have yet to hear anything from the training director either. I have not received the training session back as a result of one of the trainers no showing for a session that was scheduled via the LA Fitness App. That was really unprofessional and inconsiderate. I won't be coming back to this LA Fitness.

Just want to start out I'm not talking about all the LA Fitnesses just the one on Telegraph and 12 mile. First I want to say the staff is friendly, the locker rooms (females at least) are clean and they have a lot of equipment... BUT..... ALL the machines are older (and it shows, rust everywhere) which leads to machines are always down or in need of repair (like come on replace these machines already). There used to be a lot of cleaning spray bottles but the start of 2023 they disappeared?! Ive gone 6am, 11am, and 7pm different days and there are still never any spray bottles available which means I know people arent wiping down the machines and even if I wanted to wipe down the machines its more of a hassle trying to find some cleaning solution. I mean it's not bad, but for $36 a month (unless you grandfathered in) I expect better. Really if you not doing the classes or using the pool just go to planet fitness. And if you don't mind going farther out recommend The Edge. Same price as LA but sooooo much better.

It is very disappointing that since this location is frequented by mainly people of color, there is no urgency to make repairs in a timely manner, or keep the club up to the same standards as other locations in more affluent areas! The TV's in the front have been out for over a month. It is "deplorable" that during a time where covid is still rampant, we can't even get bottles to disinfect and clean the equipment after use. After reaching out to management for a month, we are told we have bottles but "no nozzles". This is ridiculous, especially since everyone at this location are paying the same fees as those in the more upscale neighborhoods! Fix the TV's and provide us with bottles to disinfect the equipment. "NO More EXCUSES"

The customer service is awful. My Mother was signed up for the personal training and did it for the full contract. They charged OVER the time allotted by the contract and stole an extra $280. Every person she talked to said it should be removed but it was someone else’s problem to remove it. Justin didn’t help and said “this is not my problem”. He referred my 77 year old mother to Jordan. My Mother called Jordan multiple times and she never picked up. Jordan refused to help and I don’t know how you can take $280 from a woman on fixed income.

For sure some fake reviews on here, worst LA Fitness in Michigan, this location makes me want to cancel my membership altogether. 1/2 the cardio machines are broken and have gum inside the cup holders and inserts that have been there for months. They either need more staff if they are short handed, and if they are not short handed, they need completely new staff that will actually clean and ensure the weights are put back.

If this had been my first impression of LA Fitness, I would've never become a member. Half the dumbbells are just gone, almost all of the machines are rusty, have broken handles, or otherwise feel unmaintained, and the locker room bathrooms/showers are poorly stocked and unclean.

I wish they had a steam room, & that the dry sauna were by the pool rather than in the locker rooms. But they do have a hot tub that has worked when I've been here. Which better than the Briarwood club, which has had no jets since 1 Nov 2012. Or the new clubs which have no hot tubs.

I can tell someone who works there has people giving fake positive reviews. This location is the most run down of all the LA Fitness locations in the metro area. I jump around to each location so I’m well aware of how each is maintained. Equipment is outdated and rusted. Nobody re-racks therefore dumbbells are missing. Overall cleanliness is subpar. For it be off a busy street, it’s primarily empty for a reason compared to other locations. I wonder why that location isn’t as managed and modified compared to the other gyms.

Is the worst kept out of all LA FITNESS in surrounding areas ... very old equipment .. especially the treadmills ... horrible .. I've been going for 9 years and not much has changed compared to other la fitness in surrounding areas... this place would be much better if managed and improved the same way the other gyms are in surrounding areas ... I wonder why this one which so happen to be in a predominantly cultured area is the most poorly managed and least improved by the franchise

First time returning since the pandemic. Unfortunately, they didn't use that time to clean and update the club. There was rust on the machines and there was a smell that could have been handled simply by regularly deodorizing. I was very disappointed and won't be returning.

I love La Fitness Southfield! The staff is nice, equipment is clean, and it is never so over populated that I can’t pop in and do a 45 minute to an hour workout and get out!

Great gym - has the quality you expect from an LA Fitness. Take that from someone who has gone to a majority of the locations in the Detroit area. The guy up front, Ryan Taylor, is very personable and greeted me right away to quickly check me in.

Love La fitness reason I choose la fitness over the Edge fitness gym is because of the pool and jacuzzi pool area and the sauna. The smell of the pool when I walk up to gym just motivates me. It’s quiet clean and quite affordable. I can invite two guest on my membership plus go to any gym I want to across the USA. Also there is no contract. If I wanna take a break and not pay for a couple of month they will grant it. Yes I love la fitness.
