Equipment wipes are never stocked and the showers are consistently moldy. It's pretty unacceptable considering how much I'm paying them monthly.
*edited after a year* Dec 2 2025 - showers are nastier than before. There's a visible layer of funk in the corners of the showers and mold on the ceiling. Pools down.... again. Ran home to shower in my own bathroom. I should invoice them for my gas money. Figure it out guys.
I'll say this tho... equipment wipes are routinely available, so that's good.

Around 10pm, Nov. 18, 2025, when going to the room of swimming pool, I feel a strong smell. I found a man with long hair is adding chemical in the maintenance room without closing the door. After swimming for about 10 min. I feel chest pain when breathing. Therefore, I stop immediately. The smell may be chlorine. When checking the correct procedure of adding chemicals to swimming pool, it said the wait-time for the swimmers should be at least 30 min. after adding the chlorine. LA fitness does not follow the guideline.

I will never get a membership at an LA Fitness again! They opened a brand new location at 16 and Van Dyke a few years back, less than a mile from my house. I bought a three year membership in full and after a year of having it they closed that location. All I wanted was a prorated refund and they refused to give me one.
Now it’s either this location (Mound/Hall Rd) or Mound and 13 Mile. From what I know Mound and 13 Mile has problems, like shootings in the parking lot. Additionally, the equipment and facility is old and rundown. This location is old and run down too, but it at least doesn't have shootings in the parking lot! The equipment is old and falling apart and the facility itself isn’t far behind. Additionally, for some reason there’s always old men bathing in the sinks. Yesterday there was an old man working out with no shirt, shoes, or even socks on. You can barely adjust the pulleys on any of the cable machines. Padding on all of the machines and benches is falling apart. It’s always warm, so I’m guessing they’ve got AC issues. The cycle room has no fans and is too hot with no airflow . The locker room/showers/bath room is always nasty and gross. I’m really close to just walking away from the last two years of the membership I bought and just finding another gym to go to!! There are too many other nicer locations to deal with this garbage! I’d recommend staying away from LA Fitness altogether, especially this location!!

Filthy! No matter what time of the day you come, you can guarantee that the floor won’t be free of hair and other debris. Machines won’t be wiped down from people’s dried up sweat, wipe down towels left everywhere. And being in this condition at 5:30 in the morning definitely means no one is cleaning the night before if at all.

I was paralyzed after drinking from fountain water machine and being in drity swming pool , I end up in emergency room with half of my face paralyzed getting multiple viruses...I did canceled my membership and I'm taking leagal action against LA fitness in sterling heights..its post it in the media and the health department will notified....I have all images and reports from the hospital..

Literally just sat there for about 10 to 15 Trying to sign up for a Membership none of the sales reps even acted like I was there. There were two people there doing nothing for 15 minutes. I literally went to the bathroom, came back and sat down and still nothing. This place is really down the drain in the last few years. Filthy. Lots of equipment that is perpetually “being fixed” but remains broken. A/C barely works. Whirlpool broken since October. Many weights missing. I don’t think one item has been cleaned or wiped since this place opened. Hundreds of additional members added to crowded gym from closed new location at 16 & VanDyke. Do better LA Fitness. Have integrity and take care of what guests are paying for and expect when joining!

Jerry T. is the best trainer by far. L.A. Fitness made a great decision when they hired him! Jerry personalized my workout plan to my needs. He has an intuitive nature that gives him an uncanny ability to relate. He knows when to tweak the regimen and when to push. Jerry makes you feel like your personal fitness matters. My doctor was pleased with my progress and thinks that working with Jerry was one of the best things I could have done. I never would have made the progress I did without his knowledge and support! I could see him training future trainers some day. He knows his stuff!
Update: I’ve lost 20 pounds and dropped an entire size in a few short months; my doc said I was at risk for heart attack or stroke. That risk has significantly decreased and I look forward to when that diagnosis is removed; my resting heart rate used to be in the 100’s and would go as high as 160. It’s now below 70; I had severely limited range of motion in my left shoulder and a lot of muscle imbalance. I can now move my shoulder freely in full range at any given time, and my balance is restored; my sleep doctor said that by Fall, there’s a good chance I’ll say goodbye to my CPAP machine; I could go on! The words, “Thank you, Jerry!” aren’t enough!

My trainer Jerry is extremely knowledgeable, pushes me and keeps me safe. We start and end every session making sure I have no injuries or concerns. We discuss my goals and accomplish them. My review rating is for my personal trainer, Jerry T. I started working with a personal trainer in 2016 and have consistently worked with one twice weekly ever since. I've been working with Jerry for about 18 months and I am very satisfied with my progress. When I first came to this gym, the trainers I worked with lasted only a few months before they quit. I went through three trainers in less than 18 months before I started working with Jerry. I appreciate that he tailors the workouts to my needs, pushing me to work hard while taking into account my physical limitations. Other trainers did not do this and I was injured while working out with them. I appreciate Jerry's professionalism and hope to continue to work out with him for many years to com. Jerry is the reason that I drive the extra distance to come to this LA Fitness gym.

Clean location with amazing staff! Came into town with my boyfriend for 4 days to visit family and Selena was so accommodating, giving us a great rate on guest passes and recommendations for restaurants, after-workout protein shakes, etc. We couldn’t have asked for better service and will certainly return to this gym when we come to the area again. Kelly of the Cleaning Crew has inspired me to write this review, I admire her Work Ethic. Janitorial Work isn’t for everyone, but most people would prefer a Clean, Safe, and Healthy Environment. We’ve been members of LA Fitness for over 12 years and usually have great experiences at other locations, but this location has been a problem because of one employee. Last night at 10:55 PM, she came at us aggressively, demanding we leave immediately. We explained we still had five minutes and would be out by 11, but she started yelling and even threatened to revoke our memberships.
This isn’t the first time this has happened. She’s always rude and hostile, and one of her coworkers mentioned she might be going through personal issues, but that doesn’t give her the right to treat paying members this way. What makes it worse is the double standard. Other people are often in the locker room past 11:10, and she doesn’t say anything. When her friends are there, she stays until 11:15 herself.
We’re always respectful and follow the rules, but her behavior makes this location frustrating to visit. Something really needs to be done about this.

I've been a loyal customer of LA Fitness for nearly 10 years, but unfortunately, the quality of service and maintenance has been going downhill. The sauna has been broken for over 10 days now, and all it needed was a light bulb replacement—it’s shocking that something so simple is taking this long to fix. The jacuzzi has also been out of service for the same amount of time, and it’s clear that no one is working on it.
On top of that, the gym equipment is old and poorly maintained. It seems like no one is taking care of the facility anymore. For a place like LA Fitness, which charges premium membership fees, this level of neglect is unacceptable. It’s frustrating to see such bad service at a gym I’ve supported for so long. They need to step up their game, start maintaining their facilities properly, and prioritize timely repairs if they want to retain loyal members.

I recently had a very disappointing experience with an LA Fitness employee named Omar. Unfortunately, he was incredibly unprofessional and dismissive in our interactions. When I asked for assistance with equipment, he seemed bothered and unwilling to help, even rolling his eyes at one point. I expect staff to be courteous and respectful, but his attitude was anything but that. It’s disheartening, as I come to the gym to have a positive experience, not to feel belittled. Management should seriously consider retraining staff on customer service, starting with Omar.

Jordan specifically lies to people and have them sign papers without explaining everything and you will end up seeing charges on your bank account. pretty poor experience - new to the area and went online and got a three day trail pass to check the gym out. When I got there, I told the person working the desk I had a pass and was trying out the club. She told me to just scan the QR code on my phone. No offer to show me any of the amenities or even where the locker room was. Luckily I just followed someone hoping they were going to the locker room. Facility seemed to be just clean enough to not get health code violations. The locker rooms stink and the sauna is disgusting. Decent amount of equipment but was disappointed in customer service. Would not recommend.

Not a super clean gym. But my biggest peeve is the loud music in equipment area. No one wants to hear random loud music when working out. People have their own music. I need to turn my headphones up all the way to drown out their music.
Also they don’t keep the class schedules up to date on their calendar. For example on Memorial Day the gym was actually closed most of the day but the app still said classes were running so wasted my time driving there for no reason.
The redeeming feature is Jill the Zumba instructor. Her class is great.

LA Fitness or whatever they want to call themselves nowadays really should invest in a quality (read: fast, easy to connect, reliable) WiFi system. Also, this club stinks of BO and many of the member facilities (hot tub, faucets) are chronically broken, or, “scheduled for mAiNtEnAnCe” as they like to put it. As a grandfathered in member of almost 15(!!!) god amn years I expect better. Harumph! (Ok that last bit was a joke, but all the rest down to the expect better are the complaint hehehe)

No clear distinction between managerial roles, gym staff, and people with authority to really help.
difficult to point out and reach to one consistant person to talk to about meberships despite being a member for more than a year.

Frank L. Cycle instructor for 5:30 p.m. on Thursdays is very rude and disrespectful. I couldn’t believe he told me to remove my headphones/earbuds. Then proceeded to blast his country music. I thought it was a joke so I put my ear buds back in and he told me again that I couldn't have my earbuds in. I politely left and notified the front desk. The situation could have gone completely different if I had stressed the issue and asked for some documentation on why my earbuds weren’t allowed. Customer service was horrible or maybe because I’m a person of color my experience was different. I probably won’t let this go. Maybe I’ll just go back to Planet Fitness.

The sauna here is saturated with old wood that has been sweated on for atleast over a decade . Monday 1:15 PM. The new management appears to lack understanding and makes questionable decisions. They seem to undervalue guests, as evidenced by a sign stating "bring guest" but then charging my guest. It's perplexing why they would do this, seemingly just to extract money and take advantage of us. Furthermore, my guest had been a member for years but had a change of address. It is important for you to show respect towards our guests!

Signed up for a membership, informed them the only reason we were coming to a gym so far from home was because of their kids club. For a month out of a month a half they pressured my wife for personal training. Today 1 and a half months into our membership we were informed kids club was closing in 10 days. Big troubles with pool and sauna. Limited communications unless you complain. This location is not "around the corner" for me. So after putting up with traffic and road construction I arrive and learn, after I have checked website 2x, that the pool has been closed for 6 days according to sign on the door. But Aquafit is not cancelled on website? Decide for yourself. Not the first time this has happened sometimes I have not checked prior to travelling there. There are other locations.

I just want to offset some of the one-star comments. I go there every day and it's great. It seems like they have a dedicated facility manager cleaning constantly. If there's any gear adrift I would blame the members who don't clean up after themselves. It's a community, not a hotel day spa.

The gym is large and has plenty of equipment Along with the gym and swimming pool i’d recommend a membership here. However the trainers at this specific location tend to hound the members and are very car salesmen-like in their approach. It’s rather irritating to have to occasionally fend them off on my way in for a quick workout. Also LA Fitness as a corporation really doesn’t take of their trainers in terms of pay. So the root cause of the whole situation is the corporation and not the trainers.

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. Most of their workers are rude, selfish, and don’t care about their members. We pay a good amount of money to come to this gym and they’re almost always rude. One worker shut off the lights on me while I was in the shower. It was 15 mins till close and he literally turned the lights off while I was in the shower… I could’ve fallen because it was so dark. and he gave me no warning at all saying they were gonna close. Also, the manager is terrible and makes up their own rules. Moreover, the hot tube is nasty and most times not hot enough. It seems like they don’t care about their members. There is one young lady in the front that has an attitude every time I walk in and it makes me sick to my stomach that people like this actually work here. I expected more LA Fitness.

I joined LA Fitness because my employer offered a membership at a discount and the location of this particular gym is literally 3 minuets from my home.
The amenities are terrific, the equipment is plentiful and the classes and virtual offerings are good too.
So, the only upside to this facility is what they offer their members, I will grant them that compliment.
With every new membership, you are granted a "complimentary fitness assessment" to see where you stand physically for working out. You have an appointment with a trainer and you end up opening up about your health goals, your struggles and what you ultimately want to accomplishment with your health and fitness journey.
The trainer that I had did an adequate workout and attempted to motivate me throughout the process with your typical catchphrases of "You can do it", "Push yourself", "Look at you go!" and also complimenting me for taking initiative to make a change to my health and well-being.
After the session, we went back to his desk and he gave me a pitch of him being my personal trainer. He presented me with the numbers and cost for his services, and I said that I would have to think about it and get back to him.
He then pressed me for my every day expenses to see how he can make it work with me hiring him. After the second time of me thanking him and wanting to think about it, he brought over his manager who basically said that I "wasn't serious about getting healthy" and then used the personal health concerns that I was vulnerable enough to share with the trainer against me, along with intense pressure and manipulation tactics.
I had to abruptly leave in order to get out of there because they were literally writing a "pros and cons" list of why I shouldn't sign up right then and there for a trainer and was trying to quote Benjamin Franklin... It was weird to say the least.
As I was walking out, the trainer chased me into the parking lot and begged me to set up another meeting with him and then chastised me when I said I couldn't meet with him this week and I would call him.
Plot twist: I am not calling him back, I canceled my membership and here I am leaving my review of my bizarre experience.
I mean, is this a gym or a cult?

Went in to cancel my membership and was told that I had to wait for some other guy to come cancel my membership so I waited and waited up front until I got fed up and insisted I speak to whoever it was that cancels memberships. Guy up front says that manager is doing some plumbing work in the back which is just baffling. They’re scammers and will do anything and say anything to stall you canceling your account. If I could give this review negative stars I would!

I got scammed. They said my membership has guest privileges and it doesn’t. They made me pay an enrollment fee when there’s an option to get the 0 dollar enrollment fee with guest privileges. I also spoke with the manager and he told me to call corporate rather than take care of my issue only to find out corporate wouldn’t give me a refund. So he already knew that they weren’t going to give me the refund but decided to waste my time. Not to mention dumbbell weights are missing some workout machines are sticky and dirty. You have random people walking in that don’t even have a membership. Worst gym experience ever. They would have to pay me money to come to this gym

🔥 🥵 I give it 3 stars for being clean but seriously. This gym is TOO HOT. They have the heat cranked in September. I was sweating like a pig only after 5 minutes of cardio. There is a sauna in the back. No need for the gym to be as hot. Very unhealthy & gross. 🤢 everyone is dripping sweat in here. 🤮 stinky 🤢🤮😷 So unhealthy. The personal trainers if they were really certified would know that & do something about it. I give it 1 star for being too hot but 4-5 stars for being clean & having dumbbells which the Warren location is missing many of of theirs.

Couple days ago my son went to the gym and he was not allowed in. The new general manager, dave, didnt allow him in due to the fact he is under 18 and didnt have a picture in the system. He was asked for his license which he gave them. The policy is if you are 16 or older with your own account you can enter. After i made a complain to this location i got a call back and the guy on the phone was saying my son didnt provide a license when he did. They can just check the cameras. The guy on the phone said to come back so he can get his picture taken and be able to enter the club, so why couldn’t they just take his picture and let him in the first place??? Such an unprofessional and discriminatory location.

Horrible new general manager (Dave).I went around 1pm yesterday and he denied me entry. He said my account didn’t have a picture so he needed to see my License. Gave him it and told me that I cannot enter as I am under 18 and I should be accompanied by an adult. I have been going alone for a little over a year with no issue. The rule is you need to be 16 to go alone and I have my own account. He kept saying how he is the new manager and won’t let me in and how he holds the power to revoke accounts. I have never had an issue until he came. La fitness should know who they are hiring and should hire someone that knows the policy and has experience.

Unfortunately this branch of LA fitness was good, but now it is going down. There is a manager called Dave, doesn’t respect the members and create his own rules. He doesn’t have the skill of communication with people and he can’t manage the respectful conversation. For no reason he just dismiss the old members from the gym for unknown reasons. I was harassed by staff using a live link to the city. They told me to call a previous customer who called a couple days earlier . They said I changed a part and he had a warranty . I talked with the customer and explained he only has a one year parts warranty which expired 4 years ago . I was threatened and told by the city man that I would not be able to have a business anymore. This is outrageous and unlawful .They had no lock on my phones. This is a serious violation of the law

Not the most honest place. I forgot my earbuds at the sterling heights location and I didn't realize it till I got to work so I called them to check and it turns out a member found them in turned themin to the front desk so I asked them to put the them up till I get off of work and I would pick them up then but when I got thr they magically disappeared the worker couldn't find them so they asked me to call back and talk to the manager because he was gone by the time I got thr. They basically gave me the run around for a week before telling my thr is nothing they can do thr just gone .I was gonna call corporate but one day after another passed by and I just let it go. Very disappointed
