The necklace on top of my bible was stolen from me while I was swimming back and forth in the pool. Every visit until my last one was near perfect. This place has done an amazing job working to remodel the main lobby and equipment, but the bathrooms literally have drain flies coming up out of the drain. The same day my necklace was taken, I showered after and almost stepped into a small flat pile of human waste that was laying on the shower floor. I’m very disappointed in that experience, and I’ve been attending LA Fitness for over 3 years. If anyone notices this necklace on somebody, please help me out. It has a small chip on one of the sides that makes it unique in distinction.

How come the company only responds to positive comments. I am a member. I for one am very disappointed that you put all the money into a renovation but not in the care and upkeep. Also staff does nothing. The place is dirty. Also pay alot of money not to have saunas which was one of the main reasons we joined this gym. Someone needs to care what is happening at the 12 mile and mound location.Would rally like a response from the owner.

Basketball court is open again, great...love the addition of the cycle classes...I hate that some of the machines now face the door but that is probably my own workout insecurity, lol...I also hate that there are no changing rooms...oh, and better/more frequent attention could be paid to the women's restroom...it also gets a little hot upstairs...the staff is usually nice, not a bad gym. Also, I have never experienced the sauna being down, hard to believe it is down as frequently as people mention.

This gym has a decent range of equipment but it one big cluster. The sauna has been closed for most of my membership. There a good portion of the time an attachment isn't at the machine its for. Better range of equipment then planet but some of the equipment here is more dated

If you’re considering signing up at this location — stay far away! I live less than 5 minutes from here and was genuinely excited to join after reading all the promises on their site. But honestly, it’s nothing short of a scam.

They claimed I could bring a guest for free for life — complete lie. Now they say renovations cost millions, so no guest access allowed.

The sauna? Out of service 364 days a year — they’ll open it one day just to lure in new members.

The place is filthy, and sometimes the locker room smells like a poultry farm. The cleaner’s attitude is basically, “not my problem.”

Sales reps will talk it up like this is the best gym in the entire nation — pure nonsense.

Worst of all, beware of the skinny sales guy named JT (or something like that). He’ll sell you dreams, but it’s all lies.

Preface: For anyone reading these reviews, notice that they only respond to positive reviews. They never respond to criticism. Huge red flag. As a paying member of this gym I'd love to see you guys take accountability and respond to people's wishes and criticisms of the gym. Let us know you're working for us.

Great job on the remodel guys. This gym has been great ever since the remodel when it comes to the new equipment. Its better than ever but there are a few issues. Some of them unfortunately cant be fixed unless they expand the building.

First of all, the new squat racks are amazing except there are no mirrors to check your form.

The cable machine area is a bit claustrophobic.

And something that is actually a huge deal even though it may not seem like it and management may not agree is that they got rid of the standing calf raise. This is one of the most used pieces of equipment in any gym and allows you to hit your calves with proper range of motion in a safe way. You dont get the same ROM or muscle activation on seated calf raises and not everyone is able to safely and properly do them with a barbell. I honestly believe you guys should get 2 more to replace the missing 1. You can find spaces for them.

Finally, and this is the absolute biggest issue and the reason why my review is 3 stars instead of 4. This gym seems to be lacking in custodial care. There are 2 main issues here:

1.) You guys seem to be allergic to paper towels. First they replaced all the paper towels on the gym floor with wet wipes. Great in theory, but only if you include both options. Removing regular paper towels was a bad idea. Second they removed the paper towels from the locker room and replaced them with hand dryers. Again, same thing, great in theory if you have the option for both. Garbage now that the paper towels are removed. Im not sure there is a single paper towel in the entire building at this point. How do I wipe the sweat off my brow? What if I need to blow my nose? What if I want to dry the bench after wiping it down with a wet wipe? etc etc etc

2.) I feel like there has been a big degradation in care from the workers who clean the facility. I remember a time when the yoga mats would have a clean pile and a dirty pile that were marked and someone would take the time to wipe down the dirty ones with a spray cleaner and towels several times a day. Im not sure they get cleaned at all now, but if they do its not well enough or often enough. There are no clean or dirty piles anymore either.

The locker rooms are also a mess. Garbage bins usually overflowing (I have a sneaking suspicion this is the real reason why they got rid of the paper towels) and there are times where it seems like there is maybe one soap dispenser in the entire locker room with soap in it. This lasts sometimes for days at a time or a week+. How is there no one available to refill the soap on a daily basis?

All in all, this gym has all the potential to be a shining example of what LA Fitness is capable of and be a great blessing to the community. However, the things I listed in this review are what hold it back, with special significance from the lack of care. Fixing this is realistic and doable. You get that in order and this gym would be absolutely incredible. The rest of the stuff I mentioned feels like more of a fantasy than what they are capable of.

I’ve worked out her now for three years on and off. Other than the shooting in the parking lot that happened the gym is notorious for shutting down its sauna after having it on for a week or two at a time. I know someone who used to work for the location and their staff is trained to turn off the breakers and tell the gym members that other members are pouring essential oils on to the machine causing it to break as an excuse because they don’t like taking care of it. I’ve called corporate on it a few times and they act furious and write complaint forms and say they will fix the problem but never do. It’s flat out disrespect to charge people as much as they do when the luxuries you pay for are turned off and then they lie to your face about why it’s off.

I love this gym best, LA Fitness in all of Detroit and suburbs. It's clean and the equipment is new and they have machines and equipment that other gyms don't. It's never crowded. You have space to move around. It's my favorite gym when I come to town. The staff is so helpful and friendly.

I enjoy using the pool and it’s nice they’ve made significant equipment upgrades….but Jesus Christ, can you all please clean this place? Having clean locker rooms and clean bathrooms is a BARE MINIMUM expectation of a gym. Hire more janitors if you need to. There’s always loose toilet paper or paper towel on the floors or around the pool, used band aids in showers or the pool, filthy toilets full of paper….it’s disgusting.

(Oh, and the sauna is pretty much always “closed for maintenance” - have you tried fixing it?)

I would not recommend this gym to anyone. Their service is absolutely terrible. They randomly shut down the sauna and swimming pool without proper notice. Every time you ask, they give the same excuse: ‘It’s off for maintenance.’ Out of 365 days in a year, the sauna and pool are probably closed for over 300 days. I urge the management to take this seriously—either improve the facility or stop charging people for services that are almost never available. It’s unfair to take people’s money like this.

Came in with a guest pass i signed up for through their official website. Came in to get hassled right away by their sales employee before i even had a chance to see the gym. He also refused my friend entry, who also had a guest pass, but happened to be a gym member there many years before all the new renovations. You guys had potentially two new customers but you chased them away with you're mediocre actions. If i have a guest pass, leave me alone and stop trying to sell me things before i even tried the gym. Do better, never coming back.

The gym itself may look nice, but the service—especially from the sales team—is absolutely terrible. I applied for a 7-day guest pass after receiving both a text and an email confirming it. My friend had even sent me an invite. But when I showed up, the manager dismissed me and said they “spent over a million dollars on the facility and don’t offer guest passes.” That was not only rude but completely contradictory to the promotion they sent me directly.

I came in genuinely interested in checking the place out, but after that interaction, I lost all interest. With such a poor attitude from the staff—especially the manager—I would never consider coming back, no matter how nice the gym looks. If this is how they treat potential members, I can only imagine how they treat paying ones. Steer clear.

My friend and I wanted to use this gym and we called over the phone to inquire about a guest pass.they told us to go online and we would be able to use the guest pass if we filled in our information.we got the guest pass and force 50 minutes and we were faced by a extremely rude employee ,who proceeded to tell us not only we can’t use a guest pass but we were wasting his time. So... this gym just went through a major renovation where the Saunas, pool, jacuzzis, and all the workout equipment has been upgraded.

The old machines are NO LONGER THERE! The sad broken machines that squeaked or creaked are gone.

The green turf is now a black turf with the tire flipping station. push/pull sled, and has all new machines:
- Rogue competition styled squatting racks that are in the middle of the gym layout on the main floor, brand new dumbbells that go from wall to wall on the back. A hamstring curl machine where you can be horizontal and work on your back or your glutes.

And the machines upstairs... new treadmills, new ellipticals - it's fantastic. The treadmills actually incline when you press the buttons.

I would say that this gym has improved in equipment. Even at the gyms busiest time, it doesn't feel crowded like the Royal Oak gym.

I would say MAKE THE DRIVE to come here vs the LA fitness in Royal Oak. It is far bigger, the machines are newer, there is a lot more space and you are not on top of one another, and it doesn't reek of weed all the time.

Make the drive. Make the decision. And choose this gym to workout at.

UPDATE: The club recently underwent a remodel with new equipment, and I’ve been working 2x/week with Meredith, who is amazing and has helped me tailor my workouts to maximize my strength, given me advice on how to maintain good health outside the gym, and written down all our training exercises in a notebook so I can refer back to them on my off-training days.

As someone who has previously been skeptical of personal training at other gyms, I cannot praise Arianna and the Warren LA Fitness Team enough - they are so intuitive and have actively tailored my workouts to improve my form and strength level. They’ve also helped me learn how to avoid overworking to avoid injury, which is something I never thought seriously about when working out independently. Personal training is a science, and these trainers definitely give you an education.

I’ve been away from regular workouts for a while, especially since the COVID years when I really became sedentary and didn’t realize how much weight I had gained and strength I had lost, and was looking to get back into shape. I quickly realized “getting into shape” in my 40s is not the same as it was in my 20s, so my old self-taught training was not getting results.
I am so thankful to Arianna, the personal training manager at the Warren location, and Amon and Meredith, the personal trainers on staff. I’ve had sessions with both, and they each took time before starting a session to discuss goals, preferred workouts, physiology, and gave me a list of workouts/apps I can use on my non-trainer days to keep up and improve.

So I was going to test group fitness training at this club and use the free three-day pass provided on the company's website for this. And after that, I was going to applied for a membership. I took a free three-day pass on the website, went to the club and wanted to start training at a specific time, with a specific name of the training group. But instead of sending me to training with a fitness group, they sent me to the marketing department, where the manager constantly tried to sell me a membership. I told him several times that I was here for a specific group fitness training, which had already started and I was late for it because they wouldn't let me go there. However, the manager started lying to my face that this group fitness training was canceled for today. Then he took me around the club to give me a tour and I saw that in fact the training was not canceled!!! I asked him why he was lying to me and said that I could see that this very training was happening right in front of me. At first he talked to me like I am an idiot: how do you know that this is it? The manager doesn't even know that there are training videos on their website and before going to the training you can watch a video of what they look like. Then he started making all sorts of excuses, that he didn't know either, but it was canceled, it looked so stupid and unprofessional that I immediately left the club. So I wasn't given the opportunity to try group fitness training in this club with the free pass that is given on the website. Instead, they lied to me, talked to me like I am an idiot and wasted my time. I don't recommend going to this club!

Disappointing Sauna Experience
I’ve been a member for 3 years and the sauna at the LA Fitness on Mound Road is consistently disappointing. It’s either broken, not turned on, or reeks of a foul odor that makes it unusable. For a gym of this size, I’d expect better maintenance and care for its facilities. It's frustrating to pay for a membership and not be able to use one of the key amenities. Management needs to step up and address these recurring issues.

I had an extremely disappointing experience at the 12 Mile LA Fitness on November 18th 2024. After finishing my workout and getting ready to leave, an employee named Ryan Ford aggressively confronted us. He used offensive language, demanded we sign a paper, and shockingly stated that he had called the police because we left three minutes after the gym’s closing time. This behavior was not only unprofessional but completely uncalled for.

To make matters worse, this location consistently fails to meet basic cleanliness standards. The gym is frequently dirty, paper towels are often unavailable, and overall maintenance seems neglected.

As a paying member, I expect a clean, welcoming environment and professional staff, none of which this location has provided. I strongly urge management to address both the unacceptable behavior of this employee and the facility’s poor upkeep. Members deserve better.

I’ve been a member of LA Fitness for quite some time, but my experience at the 12 Mile & Mound location has been nothing short of frustrating. The staff here, unfortunately, has completely soured what should be a positive, motivating environment. Not only are they often rude and dismissive, but there’s an ongoing issue where they lock the doors 30 minutes before closing time—leaving members who arrive after work or need a later session with no access to the gym. This inconsistency with hours is incredibly inconvenient, especially when you’re relying on the gym to be open when it’s supposed to be.

What’s even more disappointing is the way the staff treats members. Instead of being helpful or approachable, they seem disinterested at best, and downright cold at worst. It’s hard to stay motivated when you’re not treated with the respect you deserve, especially after paying a membership fee. The lack of professionalism here is honestly baffling, and I find myself reconsidering whether the gym is worth the trouble at all.

It’s a shame because LA Fitness as a chain has so much potential, but this particular location has really been a letdown. If you’re considering this gym, be prepared for a frustrating experience. I’ve never felt more disrespected at a fitness center, and I’m honestly looking for alternatives now.

The worst gym you could ever go to. The restroom is always dirty and smelly, with napkins scattered all over the floor. They purposely keep the sauna out of order, constantly making excuses that it’s under maintenance. The machines are old as my grandpa age. No matter what time you go there you would never find 20/25-pound dumbbells. The management is so careless that even if you make a complaint, they never take any action. This place seriously needs to be called out—it’s awful!

Extremely rude staff. They go overhead and start yelling to tell people to leave every couple minutes prior to closing. I simply said 'I know' then the front desk girl goes and gets the janitor who was trying to keep me from leaving by asking me a bunch of questions. There was still 5 minutes left until closing time and he's asking me if I have things in the locker room. He began to follow me around. People were going in the shower and I was trying to leave. I left before other people and on time, but this dude was still harassing me and picking on me. Avoid getting a membership here for your own good! I will go report this to PD for harassment and bullying.

I bought the personal trainer membership more than a year ago. I must say, DO NOT waste your money.
They never have coaches, the ones I have gotten to know leave in no more than 1 month. Even my last coach left because They didn't pay her salary.
They cancel the appointments, or the trainer simply doesn't show up and they charge you for that class.
I tried to find a solution by talking to the Sales Manager ''Nathan'' but it was a nightmare, he is the most unprofessional and useless person I know. I talked to him for almost an hour trying to come up with a solution and he didn't want to help me nothing with my membership,
I had more than 15 classes late due to lack of coaches and I asked for a refund or something to get my money and he simply said, use them... When they don't even have responsible coaches,
I talked to another person who was also a manager BUT NOT SALES at the gym and she was super friendly and she gave me solutions, now I'm just spending my classes with a very nice trainer and when I finish them I will cancel this membership.

This gym is mediocre at best.

I went in on a guest pass during the early morning hours when the crowd is usually low. A lot of the dumbbells were missing, suggesting that the equipments is regularly stolen by patrons.

It was difficult to find some of the apparati for the cable machines. They were either missing or scattered with no proper station to keep them at.

For those who value cleanliness wipe stations are so spaced out.

The layout is rubbish. The lifting area had a bunch of bench press stations crammed together , the spacing between the stations were tight and not spacious, which is inconsiderate of patrons especially those who are handicapped and need more space to maneuver and navigate the main floor.

And the hot tub was not working. There was no sign or cones indicating that the hot tub couldn’t be used at that time. The first red flag was that there was no visible steam hovering over the hot tub. And sure enough when I placed my foot in the water. It was cold. The attendants noticed I was confused but didn’t bother coming over to explain until I was on my way out the door leaving. And even then , no sign were placed near the hot tub to notify patrons that it is not to be used during that time.

Overall it was lacking.

The jacuzzi is broken it goes low constantly and they just re fill it there’s obviously a bad leak but won’t fix it the gym is dirty some of the shower in the men’s room fill up like a pool due to drainage issues, 20% of the lockers are damaged (hinges, locks) the memberships cost so much it use to be worth it when everything worked and was cleaner but now we are paying about 40-50$ a month and it’s not worth it very disappointed!

The club is filthy inside and out. Once upon a time they opened at 7:00 a.m. on Saturdays and now you can't even get staff members to show up at 8:00 to open the doors half the time. One time there was 4 staff members goofing off in the front desk and not a single one was outside with a garbage bag and a set of gloves to pick up the trash in the landscaping. The equipment is in poor shape and when things are broken it takes them forever to fix it. For the kind of money LA fitness is charging they need to do better.

I really really wanted to love this gym, especially after being disappointed with the Royal Oak location- but this is barely better. Somebody sincerely needs to go on every single cardio machine for at least five minutes and maintain whatever issue it has. Every other cardio machine is broken, or squeaks, or is missing a cupholder. The squeakiness of the machines drives me nuts. If I’m on a squeaky machine, I’ll move, but other people will just work out with the squeaking leaving everybody else just has to deal with it? I believe squeaky machines can be fixed with some WD-40, so why this has been continuously neglected is crazy to me. The locker room is usually always clean which is a plus. The young girl that cleans in the morning does an amazing job, and is always focused on the task. I’m not sure if they ever do deep scrubs on the tiles grout, mopping every day isn’t enough- deep cleans of the grout in every single tile area should be done by a professional crew way more often than they are. Inexpensive upgrades like better showerheads would go a long way. Shower curtains need to be washed more often than they are. The last three months I’ve went I felt the need to email management as a rude awakening is needed. Whoever is taking care of this place is doing an awful job, and I genuinely hope a change is made soon.. I’m not sure why I stay.. closeness to home is about the only reason. It saddens me to write a review like this But what I am stating needs to be taken into consideration as soon as possible. I believe these changes would benefit every members experience, and leave customers feeling more satisfied. I often wonder how many other regulars have these same thoughts.
