For a long time I struggled to find a physical activity that my child enjoys, and she is thriving in karate classes at Mejishi martial arts. She is having so much fun while also learning discipline and respect, and I can see her self-confidence grow after each class. I appreciate the patience and knowledge each Sensei demonstrates with students of all ages!

Sent it for info and was completely ignored by some girl teaching capoeira. No hi no anything I was there 20 minutes. So I just grabbed my information and left.

Love Mejishi Martial Arts and every Sensei that instructs there! They are tough, strict, and very structured, with just the right amount of love, fun, and healthy competition. It's a family-owned business and feels like you are a part of the family. We take pride in Mejishi and its students as much as we do our own daughter, who has attended since around 2019. They handled the pandemic with caution, creativity, and flexibility, and we felt very safe the whole time. They challenge and inspire our daughter to be the best she can, and encourage and support her so she can be. My husband and I both attend each and every lesson, and karate has become a cherished routine for us. We have friends that have joined, and we have made friends by joining. They have scholarships, accept payment via money apps, and are very affordable. They also have the uniforms and belts on site for purchase. We love its convenient location and the Ferndale community as well, though you have to pay for parking. Mejishi is very involved in Ferndale and has the same inclusive, diversity-loving values. We love Senseis Jaye and Sue, and hope our daughter never wants to quit! Maybe when she quits, we'll join, their classes are all-ages after all ;)

I enrolled my son here at age 5 and he is now age 6 and I plan to keep him here throughout his life. It is a wonderful school. Sensei Jaye is an excellent, experienced, thorough, professional who teaches the young class very well. Her other dojo teachers that help out are also
excellent. I am very pleased and impressed with this school and so glad I chose it.

Came for a work related event, did a self defense class. Very clean and the class was well organized. Jay, the owner, is very welcoming, knows her stuff and keeps her class in order to make sure you get your times worth. Was even provided with information to take home. Feeling prepared to defend myself using a variety of techniques if the times comes.

Friendly and inviting family atmosphere, without sacrificing quality detailed instruction and high training standards. FANTASTIC for beginners of all ages (YES, bring your 4-year-old; you won't be sorry! NO, you are not too old to start!) and anyone that has always wanted to learn a fighting art from Level 0 without compromise and without judgement.

I have over 10 years of martial arts training in three different disciplines -empty hand and armed, military and civilian - and I can say unequivocally that this is an *excellent* dojo.

My 5-year-old son ended up here through the school-parent grapevine and I wasn't expecting much...but I couldn't have been more wrong. Within a month I had joined a class as well and the instructors accepted my lack of knowledge in their art, prior experience in other arts, and persistent injuries and took them in a graceful stride that cannot be understated.

Young children learn discipline, respect, mindfulness, and the pride of hard-earned progression through positive reinforcement. Fitness is encouraged at all levels, totally judgement-free. Solid street-level self-defense is deftly incorporated into the curriculum. You truly cannot do better than Sensei Jaye and her team.

Grandchildren take various karate classes at Mejishi. I'm very happy with the individual care given to each child's abilities and progress.

Karate and Arnis classes are offered for children, teens, and adults at costs that are competitive with similar area dojos. In addition to traditional martial arts, the school acts as a community center offering yoga, meditation, women's self defense classes, and more.

My child loves the instructors but they recently called me at 7:41pm on a Friday night to give me a hard time because we owed them $3. THREE DOLLARS. We have had a child enrolled for a few months now and we come in every week. My wife often keeps the other kids quiet and helps to chaperone when other parents have to leave their kids and come back and pick them up. She brought in cash and paid this week but I guess she didn't realize the price was more if we dropped a day from our schedule. We apparently now owe an additional $3 because technically we were late to pay the full amount so now we are being assessed a 10% late fee. Sorry but you could have handled yourself differently. Did you think that was a good move for business? You may want to consider a different location to take your children.
