Joining MECA Novi two years ago has been one of the best decisions I’ve made for my health. Not an athlete? Don’t let the name intimidate you. I joined Meca about a month ago and haven’t regretted a single session. The workouts are challenging, but the trainers and staff are professional yet friendly, and incredibly encouraging. I have been training at MECA w/ Matt Sobeck the past 2 months, in preparation for a USA Bobsled combine tryout.

The programming has been challenging, focused, with progressions every block. My first phase of training has been focused on rebuilding a solid athletic and strength base, blending the targeting areas of muscular imbalances with in addition with explosive sports specific exercises. Matt is extremely technical in his knowledge of programming and positioning, allowing for optimal workouts.

The vibe at MECA is amazing, especially being around athletes from all different backgrounds and an extremely friendly and talented group of trainers.

I’ve been training with Matt at MECA for over four years now, and it’s been the best decision I’ve made for my health. I have been training at Meca Novi with Mitch for about 4 months and I have seen significant improvements to my strength, endurance, physique and most importantly health.

Coming from a powerlifting background, I generally knew how to train for strength- eg: progressive overload, volume, etc. and to make progress. But training with Mitch and in this gym environment really took it to the next level for me. I came in just wanting to improve physique given I am well past my powerlifting days, but training here has given me a new vigor to also improve my endurance and strength and translate this to athletic performance in the 2 sports I currently partake in - rowing and tennis. I am also considering competing in a different strength sport in the future.

The attention to detail from the coaches at this gym is truly unparalleled. From the time you enter the gym, phones are stashed away and every single minute is focused on training for maximal performance, from timed rests to recovering with intra workout drinks, stretches, dynamic warmups. Additionally, MECA offers time with a diet coach and several handbooks and guidelines on how to complement training in the gym with the outside the gym activities like sleep, hydration, stretching, etc.

Mitch, the other coaches and the entire staff are a very friendly and welcoming group of people, and it is also extra motivating to see professional athletes from so many different sports pop in to the gym and giving it their all in their training sessions.

Overall I am really happy I found MECA and I will keep training here for a long time! :)

The whole team is incredible, but Emily has made the biggest impact for me. She’s just the best. She pushes me to my absolute limit every session. I never leave feeling like I could’ve done more. I am a 67 y.o. male old who still enjoys running, triathlons and softball. I was having trouble avoiding injuries during my sport specific training. At MECA they identified weakness that I had that were limiting me and put together a plan to overcome them. Working with Sean was a great experience. I felt that he was with me every rep I did there, always making sure I did them correctly. Seam varied the workouts to keep maximizing my progress and explained the purpose of the exercises. I’m an Olde(r) guy just really getting into weight training. I’m also a biker and want to ride as long as I possibly can. Ironically riding doesn’t induce pain while riding. It’s everyday life that brings it on. MECA was recommended by my Chiropractor to help with recurring back pain by strengthening my total body. I was concerned how weights would affect my back but my trainer, Chris W. has been excellent. Outstanding Transformation with Jared and Bryan at MECA!

I began my fitness journey at MECA on July 16th with a 50-session pack, and I’m blown away by the results. Under the guidance of my trainer, Jared, and my dietitian, Bryan, I saw significant changes in both my strength and overall body composition.

Starting at 189 lbs with 21.6% body fat and 85.3 lbs of lean muscle mass, I’ve progressed to 193 lbs with a much leaner 13.9% body fat and 94.4 lbs of lean muscle in just three months! Jared's training program has been challenging yet rewarding, while Bryan’s nutritional guidance ensured I stayed on track and fueled properly.

I went into training at the Novi location looking to gain 20+ lbs, and to get stronger in the process. Ultimately, the weight was the goal to play defensive line this football season. I worked with Emily, and she pushed me real hard, but I gained 26 lbs of muscle mass and lowered my body fat percentage. I also have seen a 40+ lb increases in my bench, squat, and dead lift maxes. It’s truly incredible work they do at MECA, from the attention to detail in the weight room, as well as nutrition wise. Been training at Michigan Mecca in Novi and had a fantastic experience. My personal trainer Liz is super detail oriented and disciplined. She has a terrific balance of pushing you and encouraging you. She understands not only the physical but also the mental side of training. Since I’ve been working with her I have dropped 6 percent body fat and put on close to 10 pounds of muscle in just 6 WEEKS. Due to her not just being a trainer but also a coach that holds me accountable in dieting and sleep. The best trainer I have worked with hands down. Having experienced multiple injuries these past few years from running and weightlifting including severe tennis elbow which began summer 2023 and didn’t resolve through PT, I came into MECA end December 2023 ready to try and see if they could help. Prior to starting at MECA, I could barely hold a 20lb dumbbell because of the pain. I began training with Jared and we started by focusing on addressing my structural imbalances. Also with MECA’s guidance I became more deliberate with my nutrition, stretching and recovery. Fast forward 5 months and my tennis elbow is completely resolved. At 46, I feel stronger and look more fit than I have in decades. Most importantly, I’m able to be active and live life without injuries or pain. One thing that stands out to me is the consistent, high standards Dave has for the MECA staff. I've had three different trainers, and each one has been outstanding. Their training and knowledge is fantastic, so moving from one trainer to another has never been a problem. I also appreciate the focus on my specific, changing needs. I continue to value feeling strong and staying active and able to ski, but now in my mid-60s I'm also experiencing some arthritis that I didn't have when I first started at MECA. The trainers are excellent at working within and around any limitations I have, helping me maintain strength and flexibility. I truly believe working out with MECA trainers is positively impacting my ability to stay active, strong, and healthy as I age. And. . . I am in my third year coming to MECA. I have had three trainers during that time, Mitch, Declan and now Mike Verhoeven. I have been VERY happy with my decision. I do not believe I could have done as well on my own. I have lost over 40 pounds and added muscle at the same time. Each of my trainers have been great. In the 12 weeks of training, I've put on nearly 20 pounds of lean muscle while dropping 5% body fat. Being a colleigate athlete I have to consistenly train my body with high intensity to keep my performance at its peak and Jared has been a big driving force in effectively pushing me to train past my limits. I just completed 6 weeks with Evan at MECA and feel incredible. I was initially nervous to start, but I immediately felt welcomed. I started training with Evan 4 days a week & he tailored the program/workouts to where I was at and educated me on the proper forms for each exercise. Evan is focused on helping me achieve my goals and makes every session challenging (& somehow fun). Im a 44 year old mom that struggles with insulin resistance,PCOS, and hypothyroid. I was tired and gaining weight and just didn't feel great about my body anymore. I can't say enough great things about Nick Cotten at MECA. I started training with Nick because I wanted help putting on muscle and rehabbing a shoulder injury. Within the first couple of weeks my shoulder felt much better and within a couple of months the pain was completely gone. I’ve been training with Anthony at MECA in Novi for about 3 months and it’s the best decision I have made for myself in a long time. I had an ankle fusion done 2 years ago that limited my mobility significantly. After recovery, I was very cautious with my ankle and didn’t trust myself to go back to the gym on my own out of fear of injuring myself.

Two things attracted me to MECA: the 1-1 personal training and how they train many athletes. Sports injuries are what ultimately led me to the ankle fusion, so having a gym that is familiar with athletes, injuries/surgeries, and knowing how to push someone to their greatest potential is what I needed.

Anthony has been amazing! He’s articulate, concise, and knows how far to push me. I love working out with him. He’s learning my ankle as if it’s his own. Since my ankle (literally) has limitations, he is quick to change or modify a workout that fits my needs. Evan makes my workout plans and it’s evident that him and Anthony are in constant communication with regard to what I can and can’t do. I have seen major results in 3 months, but I have more goals to accomplish, so I’ll be sticking around for a bit longer.

I started going to MECA a few months ago to get back into shape and to do it safely without injury. From the start Chris has been my trainer and he has been great to work with. With their individualized plans, he clearly guides me through each movement and constantly corrects if I get out of proper form. I think this is key to being injury free. He knows when to push me further and when to back off. This has all led me to gain muscle, flexibility and feel much stronger. Chris and MECA have definitely improved my daily life. I was very intimadated to come to Meca since I thought it was out of my league. I had no weight training experience and not the healthiest person. But from the moment I walked in, they made me feel like I was with family. Alex, the GM has the best customer service and always greets me with a smile. Jon gave me my assessment and went into detail why I was not sleeping and what I could do to improve it. Bryan, the nutritionist came up with a food plan to get me started that wasnt too overwhleming. Within a week, the entire staff all knew my name and eager to give me high fives when I'm struggling to make it thru (again, an example of great customer service)

I've been working with LeAnne for a few weeks now and I'm starting to see the results and feel better. She's knows how to be patient and encouraging but at the same time, push me out of my comfort zone.
