I’ve been working out with Ben Dehondt for about 6 months and I’ve put on about 10-15 solid pounds. Great program for not only strength and size. Great machines in the gym as well. I hit 225 on bench in about 2 months when I started at 185. Overall great gym, great trainer, great time.

I have been working out at Paradise Barbell for over year now and it’s been a great experience. Ben and Noah are more than happy to answer any questions I have without making me feel like a “gym newbie” just for asking, and the workouts are varied to keep things interesting and well-rounded. I’ve learned enough to feel confident setting up my own workouts when traveling, but I continue to return for the accountability and assistance.

I have been training with Ben since October of 2023. Over the last two years he has taught me so much about working out and nutrition. His gym is very welcoming. I have been working out with Ben since he opened Paradise Barbell in 2023 and he is the Best! I’m 71 and he has been helping me with functional strength training.
I’m able to remain active because of the strength training.
There are a wide range of ages working out at the gym and everyone I have met is friendly and encouraging.
I’ve also worked out with Noah, Symone and Jake at Paradise. They are able to step in if Ben is not available and I get the same support from them.
The gym is clean and the equipment is great.
I highly recommend giving strength training a try.

I am a 61 year old female. My C1 is naturally fused to my occipital and C1 is fused to C2. My cervical spine is fused from C3-7 surgically. My lumbar spine has slippage at L4/L5.
My right knee has had a torn meniscus and cartilage. Complete Acl tear, 1 total knee replacement and 2 revisions.I have Arthritis from head to toe and Osteoperosis.
I called Ben the end of May 2025.
We discussed all of the above including everywhere I have pain, headaches, chest, neck, shoulders, upper back, hips, right leg from hip to foot.
I told him I was looking for a slow- deliberate program specifically designed with all of these issues in mind. I need strength, joint mobility and flexibility. I need to revive some muscles and body parts that do not work as they once did. I need to be able to move easier than I do and make gains throughout my life.
I told him I want to start 3x per week, for maybe a month or 2 and then maybe drop to 2x per week and some at home and then 1x per week as a check in and alter the plan as needed.
It has been 4 months of working with Ben. I am so grateful for his willing to listen and devise a plan with everything in mind from our very 1st conversation. From head to toe, my pains are at least 50% eliminated. My head is much more put together and confident than it has been in some time. Sometimes we have to work to get on the other side of the pain. He swaps an exercise if it is too much, to still get the effect but be worked in a different aspect.
I cannot make the gains on my own. I do not possess the expertise he offers. We still work 3x per week and I take a week off every month or so. We find this is good for my present body and mind and I do not lose any of the gains we have made. If you want your life, mind and body back. I suggest you start now. Call Ben, you will be a much happier version of yourself.

During my Sophmore year of baseball I blew out my arm while pitching and had to receive Tommy John Surgery. This completely changed my life and took me out of sports completely. All of this downtime caused me to put on more weight and at that time I was at my lowest with my physique. I was at about 210lbs, weak, standing at 5”10 (photo 1). I was unhappy with my appearance and knew I had to make a change. That’s when I met Ben. Ben took me by the arm and guided me through the highs and lows of getting back in shape. Benching only the bar at the time (post elbow surgery) I was discouraged and ready to give up. But Ben stayed on my hip the whole way and pushed me through it all. About 7 months into consistently lifting 3 days a week I had transformed into a new person (photo 2-3). I was the happiest I’ve been in a while and was extremely confident. Over the approximate 10 months I worked with Ben he absolutely changed my life. His kindness and hardworking personality rubbed off on me and made me the person I am today. Without Ben I wouldn’t be anywhere near where I am now and I give full credit to him, his training, and the Paradise Barbell Community. We built a strong bond, not only as mentors of each other but also gym bros😂💪🏼. Anyone looking to get in shape? The fun way? Then Ben and the Paradise Barbell Family is perfect for you.

Ben expertise as a trainer has been instrumental in my recovery from a chronic back injury. I’ve been a team sports guy my whole youth and collegiate life. I’m 39 now and I’m focusing now on functional strength and picking up as much mobility as I can now. I have always been the “I would rather do it myself” guy, but I didn’t really comprehend what I didn’t know and what I haven’t had to this point in a coach/trainer until brining Ben onboard. My family and I love Paradise Barbell for so many reasons…
The PB gym facility is always clean and has very high quality equipment. Ben makes sure to add new equipment from time to time to keep things fresh.
The trainers are top notch professionals, at an another level, in what they’ve all individually accomplished in the sport of bodybuilding.
We have so much fun working with the trainers at PB. They keep the workouts fun, challenging, safe, and in aliment with our goals of building muscle, leaning out (for my husband) and building balance and coordination sport specific to skateboarding for my son. My son is 10 for reference.
What I love most about Ben as a trainer is his unbeatable mental attitude!!! He may look like a young man, but he’s an absolute savage when it comes to his positive mental attitude and goal achieving ability. He has a growth mindset that is contagious. We literally always look forward to our workouts and it’s, hands down, the most consistent we’ve ever been with weight training.
Our strength has exploded since working with Ben. He adjusts every single workout with growth and progress in mind, as well as, makes thoughtful adjustments for any injuries.
To anyone on the fence about personal training, my advice is that Ben and the team are one of the best return on time invested that you will ever experience.
In our experience, our productivity and happiness across all of life increased, focus and mental clarity increased, muscle growth and strength increased, and arguable most importantly our family bond and mental fortitude towards difficulty has increased. Considering it’s the dead of winter right now, I would say that’s pretty epic.

My teenage son works out with Ben. My main concern was technique. I didn't want my son to hurt himself. Ben does an excellent job! He related well to my son, worked on safe/proper technique, and helped my son increase his muscle mass. We did both private training (to begin with) and group training. My 10 year old son has been coming to work with Ben weekly for the past 6 months and we are so pleased with our experience. He is doing age appropriate training with a goal to keep up his strength between sport seasons and it has been fantastic. Not only has he done great agility and coordination exercises but also has increased his strength. Ben takes so much time to help him learn the proper form to safely complete each exercise, which will serve him well throughout his life. Also Ben is very flexible and pleasant to schedule with and my son genuinely enjoys his time at training. I met Ben after doing a Google search for personal training. From the first call to the first session to the last session he was spot on in his approach to what I wanted to get out of my sessions with him. He explained in detail proper technique, he also explained the WHY we were doing what we did. He has multiple degrees in the subject, he has invested in himself and his gym and also employs trainers of the same mindset. I play for Michigan’s most elite travel baseball team and when it comes to training I can say that Paradise Barbell is the best. When I was looking for a trainer for my 15 year old son, I never thought that I would find someone so well-rounded. From my first phone call with Ben I knew he was the perfect trainer, and mentor. My son has been training with Ben for over 9 months (3 days a week) and we could not be happier. Ben took the time to understand the goals he wanted to achieve. Not only is he hitting goals, but he is also understanding nutrition and how everything plays apart in your well-being.
I also want to mention the facility in which the training is conducted out of. It is very clean and has all the necessary equipment (machines and free weights, etc.)

Our son is not athletic and not into sports, but was interested in increasing his physical activity and learning correct form for basic exercises with machines and weights. I came to Ben with no prior weight lifting training or dieting. He put me on his workout plan, and in 4 months I could see results in gaining noticeable muscle. His personal training really helped with my form and targeting specific muscles. My shirts were tighter, my veins were more visible, and I felt better about myself.
Then I started his meal plan to cut fat and be as lean as I can. After 2 months of his diet, I was in the best shape of my life. Ben provided a complex analysis on calculating exactly how much food I should eat in a day as well as providing helpful tips to staying on my diet. It’s been over a year now and I’m definitely in a much better shape than I was a year ago thanks to Ben.

Ben has been working with my daughter that is a competitive swimmer and we can not say enough about what a great personal trainer he has been for her. Not just physically but also mentally as well. My daughter loves to work out with Ben, even though it is hard, so knows he is making her stronger for her sport.

I would 100% recommend! What started as a joke with my daughter that I was going to find a bodybuilder to work with, I googled Personal Trainers in the Rochester area. I decided to contact Ben and asked if he trained "old ladies" LOL. Joking aside, I started working with Ben 5 months ago post hip surgery and post a leg fracture both from falling in separate accidents. Ben helped me a great deal by making me a plan that was both simple, thorough and flexible enough for me to fit it into my busy schedule! He put me on an upper body lower body split and helped incorporate supersets to keep the workouts short but effective in the morning.
He’s also given me helpful alternatives to staple exercises to accommodate my bad knee and helped me get back on my feet when I’ve rolled my ankle.
Ben’s even helped me a ton with how to best meet my macros. I’ve always had trouble overthinking my macros, especially how much protein I’d actually need to build muscle, but Ben’s excellent at cutting the bs and giving a detailed breakdown of what’s right for me and my goals.
