This was my first visit to this location. The gym is clean, but I noticed I was incorrectly charged $0.24 in tax for a Celsius. Energy drinks with nutritional labeling are not taxable under Michigan law. This means customers are being overcharged without realizing it. I’m pointing it out so the staff can correct it going forward, because it’s a simple fix but an important one.

Dear Planet Fitness Corporate Team,

I am writing to formally file a complaint and request reimbursement following a deeply upsetting experience at your Planet Fitness location at 1200 W Fort St, Detroit, MI 48226.

Earlier today, I parked my vehicle in the lot and checked in at the gym as usual by scanning my app. Before beginning my workout, I spoke with a staff member and explained that I needed to walk my pregnant wife and our one-year-old daughter to a nearby festival, as the area did not feel safe for them to walk alone. I made it clear that I would return immediately after dropping them off to complete my workout and later pick them up. The manager on duty assured me this was fine.

However, upon returning to the gym, I was shocked to find that my truck had been towed, along with my wallet containing my ID and credit cards. This situation left me stranded with my pregnant wife and infant in an unsafe area, with no transportation and limited options. I had to call someone over an hour away — the only person I knew who had a car seat — to come pick us up.

When we finally reached the tow yard, we were informed it was cash-only and the fee to retrieve my vehicle was $555, payable in exact cash. We were forced to find an ATM with steep fees to withdraw the money, as the yard was closing soon and additional charges would apply if my truck remained overnight.

This experience was not only stressful and dangerous but also completely avoidable. Both my wife and I are Planet Fitness members, and we trusted that your staff’s guidance was reliable. After researching reviews for this specific location, I discovered multiple similar complaints, suggesting this may be a recurring issue involving towing disputes at this site.

Although the franchise owner claims they do not control the parking lot, I was explicitly told by your staff that it was acceptable to park there. Therefore, I hold Planet Fitness responsible for the financial and emotional distress caused by this incident.

I am requesting full reimbursement of the $555 towing fee, along with a written acknowledgment of this issue and confirmation that corrective action will be taken to prevent this from happening to other members.

Please contact me as soon as possible to resolve this matter. I can provide documentation, towing receipts, and any additional details as needed.

The Franchise is running scams with multiple towing companies to tow cars in their lot even if parked appropriately and then charge egregious amounts to get it back. Went in to do my daily workout and was there with my partner for less than an hour. By the time we walked back out, our only car was gone resulting in us having to wait over an hour for our friend to leave work and pick us up. When bringing it up to the workers they acted guilty even though they had all information ready and even knew what my car was as they were the ones who called the tow truck in the first place. Called the towing company (Boulevard & Trumbull Towing) and the responder was very aggressive stating to call back tomorrow because even though they advertise 24/7 hours they don't have anyone in the office after 6 p.m. at which point they stated to get my car back it would be $605 plus an additional $450 every night its left there giving no instructions on payment. I arrive at the tow yard the next day (having to both my partner and I call off work in order to retrieve the vehicle) and upon getting there they state it is CASH ONLY with no ATM machine on site. Leading us to have to leave and gather the cash to come back again.

Visiting Detroit, staying downtown so parking wasnt an issue as I walked there. 1-3 pm workout. Not crowded. Nice crowd. Gym is nice. Not huge, but not small. Clean. Large functional area. Met or exceeded all expectations of a newer Planet Fitness

Clean, everything functional, and nice back area. Not much parking, but street parking is available and not much of a walk. Only real downside is that it doesn’t have that stretching cage that Planet Fitness gyms tend to have. That’s typically my only reason for going to PF over other gyms.

I am cancelling my membership due to the situation with parking. There are no spots available and your car will get towed and taken until you pay an enormous price. This is terrible compared to all other planet fitness locations.

I highly recommend Planet Fitness Fort St. The staff is accommodating and very friendly. The gym is very clean and all equipment works. The black card area is a perfect place to decompress after training. I petition for this location to be open 24hrs for at least 4 days of the week. It'll accommodate those who work downtown or have awkward hours.

The parking lot is too small. I and apparently many others have had their cars towed by predatory towing company — Javion & Sams— that charges over $600 for a single vehicle!!! PF should do a better job of warning patrons and it is suspicious that they don’t.

7/21/25 3pm. I brought my daughter, and this is our first time at this location. Parking is scarce and the inside is not as big as other planet fitness and I like that. It wasn’t nowhere near crowded when we got here it was about 10 people here. When I was about to leave some old lady, tried to pick a argument with me. I’ll let her talk and I walked away. I didn’t say anything back. I don’t know who she thought was gonna give their time and attention, but it wasn’t gonna be me. I don’t have time to argue with people. However, I would’ve been wrong had I put my hands on her when she grabbed my arm.

I would NOT recommend this Planet Fitness location. The parking lot is small. Even when the crowd meter shows it's not busy, the lot is always full. My car got towed around 7pm on Thursday, 7/3. Due to the holidays, I couldn't get my car out of the impound until Monday! I had to pay a total of $755! The fees for the first day totaled to $555!! Plus $50 per day (5 days 🙄🤦‍♀️). I was even more upset when I found out the tow truck was only 5 minutes away from the gym 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️. It's not worth the hassle of looking for a parking lot nor getting your car towed. This sure was one expensive ass gym day for me. I wanted to try this location since its closer to home but I'm going to return to my home gym location in Dearborn. I would not recommend this gym.

THEY JUST GOT ME FOR $250 WITH THEIR "PARKING"/TOWING SCAM!!!!!

The towing thief kept telling me how he was doing me a favor. If he drove away it would have been over $500 at the lot. So instead he damaged my rear differential and axle pulling my truck sideways in order to get it "hooked up" (partially physically onto the truck) to keep you from leaving. That also begins the whole "legal" scam process. Chris kept saying how it's not him it's his company and he felt bad screwing so many people! Chris, calling it your job don't make it right!

I was parked in a marked spot and made sure I wasn't overhanging into the "restricted" area. They make more from the towing company than your dues!! Read the other reviews. Don't go to this location if you like your money and your car because you won't have both if you come here!!!!!!!

My guess is they have a video feed and a truck around the corner because I wasn't even there for 10 minutes. Plus I was in a spot that was clearly marked as a spot. I didn't overhang any line at all. I was perfectly centered and behind the marked off area. Clear on all three sides that were marked!!!!

I keep seeing responses from Planet saying they don't run the surrounding parking lots. The reviews all concern YOUR tiny lot! It's right outside your door. Please quit lying in your responses! Also saw one response say park on side street for free. They'll get your car towed there too!!!! Only difference is Planet won't get a portion of the $$$. They'd rather have you in their lot.

visited this new location on a work trip. Enjoyed the equipment and the black card spa features. I’ve been to about 200 planet fitnesses and this is one of the better ones because most people don’t know about it yet. The only downside is the parking lot is really small, but my work truck does fit in the one or two spots left for a truck.

For such a new nice place the parking is terrible! Literally they are watching on cameras and calling the tow truck to come tow your vehicle. The tow truck driver told my husband he would not tow his vehicle but he had to pay $200 CASH so my husband hurried to a nearby atm only to come back to find his vehicle gone and when he called the tow company the price went up to $500 within minutes of being gone and towed basically blocks away! Planet Fitness do better you are literally in business because of your customers! Membership canceled!!!!

I am writing to formally request a full refund for a charge that was recently withdrawn from my account, despite my membership being cancelled today, May 19, 2025.

Earlier today, I cancelled my Planet Fitness membership and received written confirmation that the cancellation was successfully processed. The confirmation also stated that I would continue to have access through June 16, 2025. Given this, I was surprised to see that a charge was still taken from my account after the cancellation was completed and confirmed.

I would like a clear explanation as to why this charge was processed, and I respectfully request that the full amount be refunded to me immediately. This transaction appears to be in error, and I am seeking swift resolution.

Please also have a representative reach out to me directly to resolve this issue. I have faced difficulty getting support so far, and I need a clear and timely response. I have attached a copy of the cancellation confirmation email for your reference.

Please note that my current review rating reflects the frustration and inconvenience caused by being charged after canceling my subscription, along with the challenges I’ve faced trying to get assistance.

This is a new planet fitness location in Detroit in corktown. Other than limited lot parking (you can park on side streets for free) this is a great location. The equipment is all brand new and there is plenty of space to move around and find your workout.

Overall services are good but this review is only for parking spots. There's only a few spots compared to the number of gym members. Plus they don't put the signs all the time. My car got towed and the manager said there was a sign but except today. I got to pay $555 to the tow company. In the picture, it is the place that I parked because the parking spots were full. It doesn’t make any sense to take people in while there's not enough parking spots in a location like Midtown Detroit. Hope for some members'well-wishers from the staff to see this.

I love this place. Employees are super nice. If you have any questions, they are here to help. I also love their massage chairs, hydrobed, etc..
The only thing is that I wish they had more parking spaces. Even when I check the crowd meter on the app, it's not enough to know if it's gonna be full or I will find a place to park. But it won't stop me from going there.

Warning to other members. They tried to tow my daughter's truck. The tow truck guy said the owner of the Planet Fitness called and said you cannot park there. She's been parking there for a few months, so have others, and there are no signs. With her being confused, she went inside and got the manager. The manager tried to talk to the guy, and no luck. She had to pay the tow truck guy $200 to take her vehicle off or 500 at the tow truck company. Beware of of the parking. Planet Fitness, if you're not calling in on your members, I would suggest you look into this tow truck company scaring off your members.

Needs to update their cleaning bottles. The spray bottles does not disinfect anything because I use the spray on all the equipment before I use them and I still catch ringworm spots all the time after I work out at this location and other planet fitness locations.

Anyone who thinks Detroit couldn’t sustain a gym should try getting a workout here after work. Parking is my only gripe - Better than New Center’s location, but not nearly enough for everyone who works out at peak hours (and trying to find parking can be discouraging because the nearby street parking is either metered or a no parking zone. Other than that, solid gym and a glad addition near downtown.

To be a new the staff was not welcoming. One girl on the phone the other staff standing around didn't greet me or my friend.
