Easily the worst Planet Fitness location I’ve been to. I’m a Black Card member and regularly visit different locations across multiple states, so I have a solid point of comparison — and this one was just disappointing all around.
First thing I noticed: the lockers were filthy. I tried several and they were all visibly dusty — clearly not cleaned regularly.
I visited between 5:30–7:30 PM, which is peak time at most PF gyms. Usually, there’s great energy, lots of people working out — but this place was practically empty. No vibe, no motivation. Just felt dead.
Then came the real issue. A staff member came up to me and said, “This time it’s fine, but next time you need to wear something more covered.” I was shocked. I was wearing a black Men’s Cut Off Muscular Tank Top (check the photo, nothing revealing — full coverage to the neck, just open sides) and sweatpants. I've worn this same outfit at many other PF locations and never once had a problem.
Minutes later, I saw two women working out in sports bras and leggings — and the same staff member walked right past them without saying a word. So apparently, a guy in a muscular tank is a problem, but a sports bra is fine?
Planet Fitness claims to be a “Judgement Free Zone,” but this felt like the exact opposite.
Now I understand why this location is so empty. This was my first — and definitely last — visit here. I’ll be sticking to the other, better-managed PF gyms from now on.

My gym closed for a few weeks and this was the closest PF to me- from the outside, I thought that it would be much larger than it is. In comparison to my location, it’s smaller. Everything is fit and tight and snug inside that area. The machines are all right on top of each other.

The first great notable thing was how comfortable it was when you walked in. They keep this gym, cool and comfortable. I swear they run the heater at my gym during the summer. It is so hot and muggy at my location and with someone having lung issues it makes the workout so much harder.

The girl at the counter who checked me in was very nice. She gave me information about where different machines were. She was also on the floor quite a bit cleaning up the machines and engaging with patrons-

If you love cardio, this is the gym for you. They seem to have a lot more cardio than my location. Even machines that we don’t have- There was a machine that was in the far back as you came in. I thought it was a bike, but it’s some kind of other recumbent cardio machine and I rather liked it and wish we had that at our gym location- they also had two great row machines-

If you love weights, barbells, they have a great selection of free weight type of machines- I would say they offer more in this area than they do at my current location-

Their weakness is the strength training machines. Whereas we seem to have more options of those and more quantity of each type of machine at my current location, They had one of each type and some that I like from my location, they didn’t have-so those machines were quite busy and it was hard to get an opportunity to get on them if you want to get in and get out- they also seem to have the older version of some of the weight, strength training machines

I don’t like standing around waiting to get on a machine- today, I was trying to do upper body, and almost every machine I kept wanting to get on somebody was already on it-so you’re trying to find another machine while you wait for someone to get off of that and it’s a waste of time when you’re limited on time-

as with any gym, they have those who like to sit on the machine and do nothing. I’ll never understand that. They do their set and then for the next 5-10 minutes, they sit and stare at their phone or just sit there and then do the next set and repeat. 🧐😠

The locker room is much smaller than my location. I also think it’s awkward that they have the shower stalls right there as you walk in-there are no private changing areas-

Honestly, because of how comfortable they keep the temperature regulated, if they offered more options and more quantity of weight strength, training machines, I would probably use this gym on my way home from work versus driving over to my current location, which is right by my house-

So I came to this gyms location in Livonia and today I came in to workout and I was told that the staff needed a wellness number from an aarp membership I currently have and have had for almost 2 yrs. Planet fitness in Ann Arbor had it, but they said this one didn't and I could not continue to work out today!!
So, I immediately canceled my black card membership and I want a refund of the ten remaining days that I already paid for!!
This is how they treat a good member and Disabled Veteran!!

I had my wife set up a PF Black membership for me during a period of long work hours. She went in with me the first day to complete the membership, set up the app in my name and she never went back. I hadn’t had any problems attending the gym until 4/2/2025. I checked in and before I could start my workout I was approached by an employee and was called back to the counter. Whoever “M.M.” is was questioning me about the membership because my wife’s name and picture was on the account. Despite me explaining that I am the only one who attends the gym and my wife just set it up, I was told that I had to have my wife bring her ID to change it the account. I explained that my wife works from home and I asked if a FaceTime would suffice and that was refused. I didn’t like being inconvenienced nor the notion that I was lying about what I was explaining so I had my wife call and cancel the membership. It’s too many gyms in the area to deal with all of these inconveniences.

LOVE MY BLACK MEMBERSHIP! LOVE THE HYDRO BEDS AND NEW MASSAGE CHAIRS!!!! Great place to work out, very affordable, and always clean especially the restrooms. They have power drinks and waters available for purchase. Also have tanning beds but I've never used one. Machines are always up in running, and they also offer different Fitness classes throughout the week! And the employees are always friendly!☺️

I went in January 29th to close my membership. The lady assisted me, I signed everything I needed to and that was that. On February 25th, I was billed. So I went in explain to them that I had closed my membership and they said that even though I signed paperwork, it wasn’t in the system. I described the lady who assisted me and they said that they knew who I was talking about And it wasn’t done. I asked them could they pull the footage and I was told that the cameras do not go back that far, And I said how do your cameras not go back less than 30 days? Then I was told that they just got new cameras Installed. They were supposed to reach out to corporate about a refund And contact me in 24 hours, here we are March 10th and nothing has been done.

The equipment is old and out of style. We went to the restroom and it didn't have any soap or paper towel, and we was there at 10 something and no soap or paper towel that's crazy. And the message chair area was dark and dingy the tv's was not working and 3 and 4 massage room didn't even have a tv. And customer service was not friendly or great no one said hello to us or good bye. NEED WORK😬🙄😒

I was disappointed when I stopped in hoping to sign up today. Not at all welcoming. The person behind the desk didn't want to give me a tour and when I asked if I could look around (to see what equipment they had) she said "no"...no offer to give a guided tour, no explanation of policies/procedures, nothing. She set me up with an application on a tablet, said the rest you do on your phone, then walked away. It was very awkward.

I did give an extra star, because the place looked to be well equipped from what I could see.

The staff is great but I hate the new equipment and layout. The 30 min circut was in a room, now it's in the middle of the main floor and 2 less machines. And they are all weird. The movements don't feel right. I can't get comfortable on any of them but the abdominal crunch machine is absolutely awful! Now on to the textured hard plasic hand grips that hurt your hands. Uugg. And from reading reviews, I'm not alone. I'll try wearing gloves to help with the hand grips but short of changing gyms, I don't see any other work around for design flaws. This sucks.
Update:Gloves didn't help. Response from the company was to talk to managment. I don't think they will put back the old machines. Hopefully you guys listen to all these reviews. Any gyms you haven't ruined yet, don't . You are loosing customers. Goodbye PF. Hello Crunch.

Genuinely great place to go if you’re looking for a new gym or just a gym in general. Such amazing people working here that make sure everyone is taken care of, and the staff know so many of the members by name and make small talk whenever possible. By far this is my favorite location to workout at, it's smaller sized, clean, never crowded & the employees are always nice.

My review stays the same, however the new equipment is trash at several locations. The weight distribution of the machines is so off, equipment needs to be calibrated correctly & every piece of equipment gets more stiff than the last. Unfortunately this is enough for one to cancel their membership.

Great facility. The downsides are they reduced the highest weights a few years back and that they are quick on the lunk alarm. I slipped with the weights one time and fell to the floor and instead of coming to check on me, they rung the lunk alarm and ignored me. Submitted a complaint when that happened and quit to go to LA fitness. However until those 2 things, I thoroughly enjoyed the place

Super clean, safe environment with very friendly patrons and staff. I even shopped surrounding gyms but this place has the winning formula. I often ask strangers about techniques and workouts and am always met with enthusiasm. Be social or stay in your own world with ear buds, the choice is yours. The hydro massage alone is worth the black card membership. It's the perfect end to a productive day.

People constantly tie up the benches by the free weights with their gear, and the employees never police it. I was there an hour yesterday and the entire time, 2 guys had their stuff draped in a bench and kept using the towers, other weight centers, and just kept coming back to the benches to check their phones or take a drink. The only time an employee came to talk to them was to flirt.

Getting back into the routine of working out. Gotta start somewhere. It's not everyday but I do try to go when I can. And it's never crowded here anymore which is good due to the ongoing of covid. Also if you're a member, you have to try the hydrabed. It feels so good after a workout. And sometimes I come here just for that. Great friendly staff and never overcrowded so people should feel very comfortable at this Livonia location.

Been going here 2 weeks!
It's my first gym membership ever but I'm going too cancel my membership
Every time I go here the manager or some employee that wears a black shirt with two lil pony tails on top of her head that's behind the check-in counter by the name of "Aurora" always scan the barcode on my phone and says it's not working and she will need to verify me by the computer and it takes 2 to 3minutes every time I go here this happens!
I just stand at the desk every time only by this specific employee no other employee this happens!
All the the other employees doesn't give me this issue and the gentleman that worked on the side of her looked at her as if she just always rude or evil to certain customers!
I walked away yesterday and boy you wouldn't believe what I heard her joke about as I was walking away
Aurora made this statement:
"Ya know that Biden community think everything is free"
Now to me that is discrimination!
She should not be working here under that statement and I would be reaching out to Planet Fitness Headquarters first chance I get!!!
I'm not looking to pay this place $25 a month with this behavior and it seem like another review on here someone had this same issue with being verified by the barcode on their phone!
I see this is a on-going issue!
I would now attend LA Fitness and I pray I don't hear these type of behavior anymore!

I was treated very unfairly by the general manager Henry at 1935 telegraph gym.Being a member since 2012 I have never had a bad experience with staff at any location. I was asked to provide my drivers license after being ignored while giving my phone number to sign in. I was told to give my phone number,full name & DOB.I felt better after speaking to Ashley about the situation.Ashley deserves a raise for caring & help me file my grievance.

Great gym but why are all closing and no longer open 24 hours?
I work nights and being open 24 hours is very convenient for my schedule. The few nights it is open I have to work so I rarely have time to go anymore and I am paying monthly to never even have time to go
