Weight pit js always super crowded, forget about picking up a pair of dumbbells or using one of the smth machines, always occupied, and As other reviews have mentioned, LOTS of cell phone usage. You see more people playing on their phones and just sitting on the machines than actually working out here, which is frustrating when you want to use a particular machine but it’s occupied by someone scrolling on their phone for minutes at a time. There are signs, but staff members don’t ever seem to actually enforce them. I’ve also seen people “save” machines, i.e. putting their phone/water bottle at one machine, while using one directly next to it. I don’t think that’s fair.

Otherwise, decent location. It gets busy though, and sometimes the parking lot fills up, especially in the beginning of the week.

Gym is convenient however there is a lot of cell phone usage so it’s hard to work out especially during busy hours. People stay and text and watch the phone while occupying equipment. When you speak to the staff I was told specifically by general manager Joshua Cartagena that yes they have a problem with that and unfortunately nothing they can do about that. In other words just deal with it. Also weights are left on the equipment and I pointed this out to Joshua and he looked at it and walked away only to see a female struggling to try and move the heavy weights off the smith machine herself. I had my membership canceled I assume become ause I mentioned this issue to Joshua after being there a couple years. It’s unfortunate, however this seems to be the trend at the planet environment. Most of the friends I’ve made there feel that’s just the way it is. It’s a nice cleanish club just not really any etiquette which can be a little frustrating. In the summers kids work out free and that is really a part of the year you want to avoid. I moved to LA fitness and have had no issues as I had with planet “no judgement” should be “gym etiquette free zone” lol.

Great financial value. Open from Monday morning until Friday night, and until 10 pm on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The Black Card spa has been very helpful to my health and training, and the staff are quite friendly and helpful. Tons of equipment and lots of variety. Very friendly culture. Lots of free parking. Clean and well maintained.

Bear in mind that their check in process assumes you have a smart device, usually a smart phone. You need to use their app to produce a QR code to scan into the club.

The Black Card spa offers one of America's cheapest and most accessible chair massages. They are also one of the only gyms around that offer red light therapy, which was of tremendous help to me in healing damaged skin.

Elite athletes might want a second gym to meet their more specialized needs, but this place provides an excellent foundation for general fitness, with robust hours and a very supportove culture.

I have a Black Card membership and tried to use the tanning benefit at the Royal Oak (Crooks Rd) location recently, but was told I couldn’t because their computer system was down. When I asked if I could wait to see if the system came back up, the staff simply told me, “It’s 9:40 and we close at 10.” Tanning takes six minutes, so there was more than enough time before closing.

This isn’t the first time I’ve encountered system issues here, and the staff’s attitude is consistently unhelpful and dismissive. If the gym is open until 10, members should be able to use their paid Black Card benefits until closing, otherwise what’s the point of paying for them? The lack of customer service and frequent system problems make this location very frustrating to deal with.

recently called to cancel my membership and had a frustrating experience. I asked for some guidance on the cancellation process but didn’t receive clear direction. When I inquired about speaking with a manager, I was told they’re only available for an hour a day and might be busy. The call ended abruptly after I asked the associate to confirm a note was added to my account. I called back and could hear yelling in the background, which made the interaction even more uncomfortable.

Thankfully, I was able to cancel my membership online, which is a helpful option for anyone in a similar situation. I hope management considers providing clearer training for staff on handling cancellations and customer communication more effectively.

A part of me dies every time I have to come here and spend 10 minutes circling around the parking lot with 6 other cars looking for a spot to open up in their undersized lot

If you want to workout between the hours of 4pm-8pm, good luck because you’re either waiting for a someone to leave or parking illegally like everyone else that comes here. If you're lucky you might even get hit by someone in here driving too fast to get to a spot before you.

Multiple TVs are frequently not playing or have a frozen picture. When this happens, almost always one of the TVs is the one dedicated for ESPN. I asked the front desk today if they could fix the TV with ESPN and got the following response “Sorry, I can’t fix that.” But was provided no context as to why. It came off as rude.

Water is always cold! I thought it was just in the summer. Now it’s cold while it’s cold out. I go to several locations nearby and their water is very warm to hot. Stop being so cheap!

WiFi is ridiculously slow. This is a bad area for cell phone reception so people rely on Wi-Fi. I have one bar on my Verizon service and it works better than their Wi-Fi with their Wi-Fi I could not even load this page. This place has also been under construction for months.

One of my favorite planets that I've ever been to with one major drawback. Good luck parking around 5pm M- Thurs. No spots and cars speeding through the lot looking for spots. Tried to cancel my membership months ago, they refused to cancel it and instead they paused my account and now I’ve been charged for the membership, and I’ve been informed they can’t refund me. If there was ever a reason I’ll never return to a gym, it’s that policy alone. Love Planet Fitness, in general. They are very reasonable for what you get out of the membership, but don't love this location as much as some others. It is in a prime area, so it tends to be busier, and they aren't open 24/7 like they used to be. The layout is kinda weird. You have to walk through machines to get to other machines and work out areas, not very spread out. The gym is always very clean, and the staff is always super friendly. They also just added some new equipment, as well.

All would be well with this gym if it wasn’t for the parking. This past year has been the worst. I’m highly considering switching gyms due to that sole issue. When I’m off work I’m not able to simply get there and get a workout in. There have been days where I’ve just had to leave because the parking lot was a disaster. It’s causing an absolute cluster and kind of over dealing with it. What’s the point in having a membership if you can’t even get in?

What can I say. Even though Planet Fitness is kind of just an adult daycare center with silly rules and limited free weights (plus no real squat racks), it remains the biggest bang for your buck as some others have previously stated. Mostly geared towards old people and women, men 18-40 years old can still get a decent workout here and in decent shape. Once you get to a point where you need specific weights/racks/uncommon machines and/or tools is when you'll probably need to switch gyms and good luck finding that around this area. Royal Oak has some of the worst gyms to choose from I've noticed. If you can get past Planet Fitness' corny color scheme, their laughable rules (which, depending on if the staff are cool or not, is how that will possibly effect you) you should be able to get through working out there pretty peacefully. Watch out for that intimidating lunk alarm! 😂

Horrible customer service. I was using my guest pass that is linked to my husbands account and the woman at the desk wouldn’t let me start my workout until my husband got there. There’s never any soap in the men’s bathroom, the automatic dispensers don’t work so they’ve been putting soft soap (cheap hand soap) containers out that are refilled with water so it’s all watery and no soap. So gross and unsanitary. It’s been like this since I’ve joined which is at least 2 months now.

Each and every staff member here is friendly, productive, and fantastic. They constantly clean, scan badges each and every time, and are always welcoming. The owners should be on their hands and knees thanking them daily for maintaining such a great environment. Club is fine, the parking is becoming a problem. The app shows traffic level was moderate, maybe 35%. I get there and the lot is FULL with several cars circling for spots.
Annoyed, I drove off and had to exercise at home. The app needs to reflect how busy the club is more accurately, it has yet to be correct. It's always way busier than I'm expecting.

I think this location needs the ventilation/air pressure assessed. It seems like it extracting more air than it has to offer causing imbalanced pressure. Maybe it needs a better makeup air exchange or something? It's difficult for me to work out here because I can't seem to equalize my ears again until I leave the facility. It's a little dizzying, not conducive to working out.

My biggest complaint is that they are not open late on the weekends. The night staff are so friendly and make sure you are safe on your way out. I wish I could say the same for the afternoon/evening staff. The person I assumed was the manager based on his uniform (white man in a all black outfit/hat) was rude to me when I came in saying my profile was incomplete and acting like I should have known even when I had been coming in for over a week to this location. I already had some anxiety going in at that time with the crowds and this just made me feel awkward coming in. I will stick to my night shift crew as they are the best.

I’ve been going to this location for 2 years and the only think I have a problem with is the staff. Most of them are very young and are there just to socialize on the clock. My dad goes there to work out. He has COPD so outside is not really an option, and it is an air conditioned building.Oh, oops wait they turned the air up so it is even hotter. When asked about it, I was told it was because corporate told them to to save a few bucks. I was charged all during the Covid closures and can’t get a response back, though clearly I wasn’t using the facility. I would really like to hear back from someone who can actually help me and not pass the complaint off to some other person who knows zero.

I travel alot for work, and am thankful for being a Black Card member. Knowing this, I was extremely disappointed with how this Planet Fitness conducts business. They used predatory behavior to try to get me to switch from my home gym (Howell). Also, they require eye protection to use their tanning service, then proceed to charge a collective $2.65 rental fee for the same equipment. I was flabbergasted and disappointed that they are doing the exact opposite of what the Judgement Free Zone is supposed to be. If I was a shareholder in the company (I wouldn't publicly reveal thisin a review), I would be investigating the behavior this gym conducts.

The cherry on top was the body language the staff gave me for not being home based in their gym. There's a lot of JUDGEMENT and FRICTION from the staff because I refused to partake in their behavior.

I highly suggest removing the mandatory eyewear protection, lower the judgemental behavior, and back away from the membership poaching tactics. It's not a good look.

Would not recommend. Staff consist of young children, especially later in the evening who are very unprofessional and rude. Equipment is not properly cleaned, if you do decide to use this facility I recommend covering as much skin as possible to avoid exposure to tinea corpus.I used this gym as a back up due to close proximity to my home though I will not be continuing use secondary to poor staffing, lack of proper cleaning of equipment and overall poor experience. Though the gym is extremely cheap I still would not return .

Pay no attention to the few cranky peeps, the Crooks Rd location is top notch! I've recently made it my new home base. Great selection of circuit training equipment as well as free weights and, of course, GOBS of cardio equipment. Even when it's busy, the vibe is chill, members are polite (or mind their own, at least) and the staff is friendly & helpful. Southfield and Oak Park locations - y'all should take notes. Coming here was like a breath of fresh air. (For a gym, that's saying something... lol)
