The Southfield location has plenty of cardio machines, but there’s often a wait to use certain weight machines—especially when one is out of order. That something to consider during peak time of the day. Unlike some other locations I’ve visited, this one doesn’t have a free weight area or cryo chairs.

PF Southfield is my go-to for fitness. They have a trainer on staff and on site 5 days a week. Tai leads scheduled classes and and recommends modifications as needed. Tai understands how everything works; attitude, equipment, and physical strength endurance and drive.
This studio is well staffed, super clean, smiling and friendly members.

I usually go in the afternoon. Their personal trainer takes over the free weight section. The free weight section only has 4 benchs. He doesn't even fully utilize the bench. His clients mainly use the benches to put their stuff on. After waiting 10 minutes, I gave up and went home. This has happened several times. I was a personal trainer for years and I always thought that trai ers should have some degree of gym etiquette. Tai displays none. Might consider canceling and going back to LA fitness.

What a great experience it has been working out at Planet Fitness in Southfield. The staff is professional, friendly and the gym is always clean. I have been taking classes with Tai, their trainer, and I cannot begin to share how my life has changed as a result. I am stronger, I have better balance, I am more confident and my overall approach to life is much more positive and joyful. I have lost weight and gained a whole new outlook on life. Joining Planet Fitness and taking their classes was one of the best decisions I have ever made for myself and my health.

Let me start off by saying after my visit at another one where I didn't get the answers I was looking for or help I wasn't go join. But I walked in this location and was welcomed by Jessica with a smile. She answered all my questions I had and not only did she show me around and teach me about the equipment she got on each one and showed me how to use them the proper way!! This is a woman who have very good customer service skills and like her job. The place was clean I felt at home I live closer to another location but will drive the extra distance for this location because of Jessica they need more workers like her I'm serious. I hope she's getting the pay she deserves if you looking for a place work out this location I recommend thank you Jessica for making me feel comfortable.
Ok now today July 3 2025 I was charged twice so there's no customer service number so called Southfield and oak Park location was told ask for Brian I been calling since June 20 from 9am - 5 and keep getting the run around he not here and left my number at both locations and no call back so I cancelled my black card membership just when I thought I found a second home no customer service no one to help and a guy try tell me Brian comes when he want to either location and all he can tell me just take my lost ! Wow so lost my money and looking for another gym think twice this could be you?

I like to go to PF for the circuit, only at this location do people constantly come on to use one machine, sit on their phones, and on the machine for 20+ minutes, making it so you can never complete the circuit…most don’t wipe down the machines after they use them. The clientele is rubbish.

Please believe the negative reviews that are shared. The assistant manager Damon gives off the impression that he racial profiles. I've been a member since 2023 and he has never assisted nor greeted me with a smile. Anytime I had questions he forces himself to answer in a friendly and professional manner. He always curt stern stoned faced and abrasive. During the time I am there he turns his back to the gym floor. Very weird never seen anything like it. On Nov 21, 2024, I was checked in by having my phone number typed into the system by a staff member named Derek and was told, "You're good to go!" 45 minutes later as I am speed walking on the tread mill, with my ear buds in my ear and music playing in my ear, I see Assistant manager Damon charging towards me, i was thinking maybe he is going to start cleaning the floor because it was filthy, only to my surprise he leaned abruptly into my treadmill and his mouth was moving. I heard nothing he was saying due to earbuds and music playing in my ears. When I took the ear buds out he sounded like a mad man asking me about my payment. I felt totally disrespected, Highly Embarrassed dehumanized and like low valued paying customer to this establishment, he interrupted my workout, I could have tripped or fallen off the treadmill or fallen on my face the way he interpreted my speed walking workout. He said were you able to make a payment? I said, it is automatic. He said nothing is showing. I said, my bank nor Planet fitness notified me . As I am still speed walking, I asked him if I could finish up my 3 miles because I only had a quarter of a mile to go. He said NO I NEED YOU TO LEAVE NOW. I got off the treadmill made sure I was not being double charged and manually made the payment. Finished my workout and left. Mind you the gym was crowded that Saturday and everyone side eyed us trying to figure out why I was being told I need you to leave now. This bothered me so a week later I asked him if that was normal practice for PF to collect payment, As I was trying to remind him of that incident, because he acted like he forgot, He loudly called me a liar 3 times right in front of a group of diverse PF members and then said !and "I will do it again if I need to!. After my workout I was leaving the gym and shared my story with a Caucasian lady, she and I are both in our mid 50's. She said, Oh, I'm late sometimes a week or two and they just tell me I can pay later. Also, one morning about 5 ish am, as I was checking in with assistant manager Damon he let this very short Caucasian lady just walk be the desk without checking in with her phone number or the app. Please look out for what a horrible experience that I had with this locations staff...More to come.

Staff are welcoming and always walking around cleaning. However, the other members are what makes this pf experience terrible. Mainly other male members, specifically. Always slamming the equipment, throwing their weights on the ground, taking 30-minute sets while others are waiting for the equipment (while there is already a limited amount of each machine), not reracking their weights, grunting super loud, they seem to think this is a Powerhouse gym or something… And the lunk alarm just doesn’t go off anymore but if it did, it’d be going off every 5 seconds so that’s probably why the employees don’t use it anymore. I’ve been a member here for years and it seems like it’s just been going downhill lately…

I want to let everyone know that this location do judge even though Planet Fitness talks about no judgement. It has everything but a nice staff .. based on repeated interaction with members I find this location does discrimination on many grounds.. It's good for what you're paying for I guess. I asked them to tighten their hip abduction machines but they didn't. I even showed the front desk lady how the machines were loose and were starting past the first setting, she seemed like she didn't even know how the machine worked. I'm little so if the machine starts anywhere past setting 1 it's not effective for me. I thought with me telling and showing her how it's too loose they would be able to fix it

I joined this gym because they were 24 hours/day, but that apparently changed without letting the members know. Closing at 7p on the weekends undermines the claim of even operating on a 24-hour schedule. The explanations given in response to these reviews are mechanistic and disingenuous. We're no longer able to take advantage of the membership services, as advertised, per the contract.

Never had an unpleasant experience at this location; however, they fulfilled a membership cancellation made by someone other than me, the member. My membership was cancelled over a year ago by phone request yet I never made this call (I didn't authorize it either)\. I found out from the Troy location because Southfield is temporarily closed, but no one could provide the name of the caller nor the phone number that made the request. Since it was by phone (no ID verification involved), you would think they verified that the number matched the one on my account or at least documented the number used but there isn't any information. I just now saw the membership termination documents in my email for the very first time (because I wasn't expecting them) and the only signature present is from the employee that processed the cancellation. Like I said, I continued to use Planet Fitness gyms to workout and even worked out last week without being informed my membership was terminated. It's a pretty good gym and the employees are always nice, but this situation has made me uncomfortable as I had to request a note to only allow membership cancellations from the number on my account or in-person. I think I will find another company to workout with.

Great gym, not 24 hours. We are all paying for, and were sold on a 24/7 gym yet they close before 12 on 3 different days. Remove the 24 Hour sign from the doors, update the website then issue a notice to all active users of the gym no longer being 24 hours.

When this gym first opened it was new an cleaned an I just loved it! Everyone was super nice. Now since Covid hit this place has gone down the floors need to be mopped, in the rooms with tanning beds dirty beyond belief. People weren’t cleaning machines when they were done before but now it’s worst! No mask if you say you have been vaccinated, how do you really know? You ask for proof, but that’s ok because your support to believe in people! The young guys behind the desk need more people skills when people walk in greet them an pay attention put the phones downs an lesson when a quest tells you what they want. The one young man is truly trying an working hard but needs to be trained a little more. I’m thinking of changing gyms if they don’t get it together soon!
