Laura really knows how to run a party! We had a surprise birthday party at Polarity and it was an absolute blast. We got to learn a fun routine that was beginner friendly and Laura gave amazing instructions on how to complete all the moves!

Laura, Brendan (I think that's his name), and Victoria were all very kind and welcoming. Laura was 100% herself and encouraging. Her dancing as we got ready and being expressive made me feel more comfortable and able to be myself.

I recently took my first class with Sophia, and unfortunately, I didn’t feel as welcomed or engaged as I had hoped. As a new student in her class, I would have appreciated a bit more effort in getting to know me and observing how I performed the tricks she demonstrated. While she has solid technical knowledge, I found that she had minimal interaction with the students during the lesson.

She would demonstrate a move and then shift into storytelling particularly true crime stories while we practiced. In a discipline like pole dance, where proper technique and safety are crucial, I believe an instructor should be fully attentive to their students, offering corrections and guidance to ensure they are executing movements safely and effectively.

As someone who has taken pole dance classes in Turkey, Indonesia, the U.S., and Thailand with various instructors, I’ve had a wide range of experiences. Unfortunately, Sophia’s class was one of the least engaging for me, with Laura’s being another that didn’t quite meet my expectations.

While I respect Sophia’s expertise, her teaching approach didn’t align with what I personally look for in a class. Because of this, I don’t think I’ll be attending her sessions again. However, I hope this feedback helps improve the experience for future students.

I've taken 14 classes in the last year, including pole level 2, heels, flexibility. I particularly liked Devan and Sophia as instructors (as a more advanced student myself, I didn't feel like their occasional lack of attentiveness mattered as much to me), but classes with Laura (owner) have been mediocre at best. The vibes are just weird, and some of my friends who have tried pole classes here have independently come to the same conclusion. To give an example, I didn't bring a yoga mat to flex class once (because for pole class warm ups, we don't use mats...) and Laura forced me to rent a mat for $5. Sure, it was the price of a coffee, but she said "you have no choice" and that just rubbed me the wrong way. I understand it must be hard to maintain a business in this location but the relationships make or break a studio like this. I haven't taken yoga here so I can't speak to that!

A Studio That Feels Like Home—Polarity is Pure Magic!

Polarity is hands down the most welcoming and empowering dance studio I’ve ever been to! From the moment you walk in, you can feel the energy—it’s a space filled with passion, creativity, and support. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced dancer, the instructors at Polarity meet you where you’re at and help you grow, both physically and mentally.

The classes are dynamic, well-structured, and challenging in all the right ways. The attention to technique and fluidity makes every session feel like a mix of art and athleticism. But what truly sets Polarity apart is the community. The environment is uplifting, and there’s a genuine sense of camaraderie among students. Everyone is encouraged to embrace their individuality, push their limits, and celebrate their progress—no matter how big or small.

If you’re looking for a dance studio that will not only refine your skills but also boost your confidence and connect you with an inspiring community, Polarity is it. I can’t recommend it enough!

I was in Devin's 1/8 5:45 class and he was absolutely wonderful. He was very knowledgeable and skilled in his craft. He explained all of the skills thoroughly and provided assurance and constructive criticism when appropriate. He facilitated a comfortable environment to experiment for ourselves while following his teachings.

TLDR: classes at polarity are fun and engaging, a great challenge, competitively priced, and taught by skilled instructors in a safe and supportive environment. If you're considering trying a class here, just do it!

A few months ago I tried out pole dance for the first time through one of the promotional classes offered and was immediately hooked. The pole classes are a great fitness challenge but are also very approachable for someone like myself with a low fitness background. After a few months of taking classes I've noticed myself getting a lot stronger and more flexible, and my self confidence has gone up with all of the support and encouragement I've received too.

Classes are taught by different levels and mostly not in a progressive manner- every class you work on something a little bit new and different or try to hone a familiar move, and after gaining certain skill sets and a comfort on the pole you progress levels. The instructors teach very dynamically, adjusting to the skill levels of participants present and giving options for progressions and ways to improve. They very often solicit feedback and suggestions for what participants want to work on each class as well. Many days we have the option to put the poles on spin mode (something not offered at all studios!) and are given suggestions for adjusting the things we learned for different desired effects. Also, while pole dance has a bit of a reputation for being a bit salacious, personal comfort is always a priority at polarity and many options are given for poses to look as tame or as daring as participants like.

I've taken classes with most of the instructors here now and while they all bring their own personality and style into class, every one of them has been incredibly kind and of course provided extremely knowledgeable instruction. The studio as a whole has fostered a wonderfully supportive and encouraging environment- lack of experience and clumsiness are never judged, but every little bit of progress is celebrated.

The classes are priced at a steal compared to other pole studios, especially with the class packages available. In addition there a number of workshops offered regularly that keep things new and exciting.

The studio is always very clean and well maintained, and safety measures are clearly well considered (safety mats are always available, especially when progressing into more challenging poses, doors locked during class-hence the late policy as well, and poles are very securely installed).

After years of thinking about it, and after attending a free demo class, I decided to register for a pole progressive class at Polarity. I was shocked by the affordability of the intro class, and the amount of class options available to fit different schedules, levels, and wants.
I've found myself feeling uncomfortable in other studio settings before, but at Polarity I've felt like I'm able to relax. I don't feel like I'm being too closely watched or criticized, while I'm still getting constructive technique tips and a great workout.
I hope to keep doing classes here after I'm done with this class pass! It's a wonderful active, restorative study break for the busy, overwhelmed student (me).

I have been taking pole lessons for a more than 6 months and it is been proven out to be a great decision. It is a mixture of both workout and dance with great teachers like Laura and Sophia and they are super fit, talented and incredible instructor. If they see any student lagging behind, they will give them individual attention and make them feel comfortable. It is very organized, clean, safe and at the same time fun. They have yoga sessions too which is also different from other places and has a unique edge. Overall it is a great environment to be in. For all dance lovers it is a must try and it’s more than dance. I would highly recommend it.

I very much enjoyed the welcoming and judgement free environment. I've attending two Level 1 Pole classes with Laura and she is just electric. Such a supportive and energetic instructor who pushes her students. She encourages everyone to have fun, ask questions, and feel absolutely hot while learning. It's very much an empowering experience learning pole at Polarity!

I had so much fun attending classes this week with my friends. We all pushed ourselves to try something new and every one of us had a positive experience. The studio itself is very clean and cozy. The only thing I would change is that I think they deserve a bigger space to fit more students! However, the space they have now is in a great location, and is absolutely gorgeous. Thank you Polarity for giving me the opportunity to try something I’ve always wanted to do!

I went to a few classes sporadically last year, but over the summer I did MPDS level 1 and am currently doing MPDS level 2. I have been to several teachers' classes and they all had their own style of dance and teaching. I appreciate this because I think it allows people to find a style they connect with. The classes can be difficult (like anything when learning) but the teachers are motivating and have been more than willing to give extra pointers and assistance. I always look forward to going to class and love the community I have met there as well. Both teachers and patrons are very friendly.

I went to Polarity through MPDS pre-covid. Classes were fine but looking back on the experience, it's a very white space and not very welcoming to POC imo. Reading other reviews, it's a relief to hear that I'm not the only one who felt this way. Laura is kinda standoffish which maybe doesn't bother other people but was always off-putting to me and part of why I stopped going. There were clearly people she was more willing to engage with and it's like why am I even paying for this lol. Casey and Sylvia are fantastic instructors and I always had a good time in their classes.

Laura was so rude and unprofessional when I arrived to the class 5 minutes late due to not being able to find the class. There were no signs stating where
to go or anyone to direct me in the right direction. When I arrived, Laura, the instructor, stopped someone from letting me in and rudely told me to read the sign that stated once the doors were locked class has already started. After showing her the time and offering to just watch the class she still refused to let me in. It’s my business if I pay $25 for an hour class and only stay for 55/60 minutes. Definitely don’t come here unless you want to waste your time and money.

I joined Polarity through the University of Michigan Pole Dance Society (MPDS) for two semesters worth of pole classes. I absolutely loved MPDS and Sylvia was an AMAZING instructor. Very kind, patient, attentive, and all the goals.

I stopped coming to Polarity after having a very rude interaction with someone (I don't know who) who was responding on behalf of Polarity. Long story short, I missed an open pole session because Polarity had the incorrect times listed on their official website. I requested to drop into another class that day and was told that I should have checked the portal and that MPDS was to blame for sharing the incorrect time. Despite the *official Polarity website* having the incorrect time listed on their website, they were unwilling to make an exception.

Prior to this interaction, as a black woman, I already did not feel welcomed or comfortable in this space. Many of my other black female friends shared similar sentiments but I continued. After that interaction, I had absolutely no desire to give my money to this business and haven't been back since.

That said, I did have a couple of wonderfully kind and amazing instructors and the location is very convenient if you go to U of M.

We rented out the space at Polarity for my sister's gender reveal celebrations. The space is very beautiful and the people we dealt with at Polarity were amazing. I'd book the same venue in a heartbeat for ALL of our special events.

The bar tender did an excellent job with the drinks and was always quick with his drinks and they were awesome every time.
The manager Jessica/Jessie did an amazing job at taking care of us and helping us whenever we thought we were in a dilemma. She even was so nice and patient with our 5 yr old son and he truly enjoyed her company. She was his BEST friend for his entire life by the end of the day. You can't get better people to represent your business than the two we dealt with on the 27th of July 2019.

Also the instructors are incredible AND humble ❤️I saw a post regarding the pricing of classes, and all things considered (great instruction, small classes, convenient location), I think their prices are too good of a deal. MAX I saw was $25/class, but if you buy classes in bundles, it can be as low as $14/class. If you're a college student like me, you can get an even better deal through the Michigan Pole Dance Society! Most dance/fitness classes I see are at LEAST $30-45/class. The instructors are all very conscientious of budget and personal situations.

Pros: the teacher are great, I usually go to Joan and Sylvie class right after work. Very different way to approach to pole and I love it.
Cons: there should be more physical training in the classes in order to gain the needed skills to advance in pole and to warm up properly. Almost one hour spent just trying to get the poses isn't enough especially if people are not already trained. This kind of lessons are good for who's already trained and not for people who want to workout properly for sure.

LOVE Polarity! Found out about it through a coworker who gave it a shot with a Groupon. I went with her to a few classes, loved it and here I am months later still going back. All of the instructors are incredible and extremely knowledgeable. They are also very understanding of different skill levels and have great pricing packages and promo deals. Very clean and organized facility....definitely recommend!!!!

Love love love this place! Everyone is super welcoming! Having never, ever done anything like this i was so nervous but Laura made sure i felt comfortable, that it was fun, and put together a routine that was a SUCH a great workout. It definitely helps with strength and confidence! i also love the affordable and frequent sales and that the parking garage is basically next door!
