Do not sign up at this gym unless you have money to throw away. They will lock you into a predatory contract and charge you $180 to cancel your membership whilst also failing to mention various arbitrary fees in the sleazy contract that they make you sign.
I used to love coming to this gym throughout high school, but the money that they stole from me in the process of canceling my membership has completely turned me away. I would not recommend this gym if it was the last one on planet Earth.

The two stars are only because Ron was great during the gym tour. He was friendly, professional, and made a great first impression. Unfortunately, my overall experience with this gym has been very disappointing.
The environment feels dark and uncomfortable, and the staff’s attitude has made me regret signing up. On one occasion, I was yelled at by the front desk receptionist simply for “looking” like I was going to use the wrong scale to weigh myself. More recently, I came in with my friend who's a bit older and actually quite intimidated by the gym; I was then accused of being a personal trainer just for helping him with his form. When I tried to calmly discuss the situation, the receptionist (with the breathing machine) actually threatened to cancel my membership.
At this point, I no longer feel welcome or respected in this gym. I sensed something was off during my first visit, but I tried to give it a fair chance. Unfortunately, the overall energy and treatment have only confirmed my initial impression.

Whenever I’m in town, the staff at Powerhouse Gym always make me feel welcome. They’re friendly, accommodating, and go out of their way to ensure I have everything I need for a great workout. The facilities are consistently clean and well-maintained, and the equipment is easy to use and in excellent condition. It’s a smooth, hassle-free experience every time. My husband was accused of stealing hand sanitizer by front office staff by squeezing a few extra pumps into his small personal hand sanitizer. An argument ensued and then they questioned him about how much he pays for his membership claiming one bottle of sanitizer is $40. I have been a member for over a year. At first it was hard getting the gym to be part of my daily routine but I now go daily and sometimes twice a day. This gym location is always clean with available available parking and paper towels and sanitizer are always stocked. The showers are clean, have good pressure, get warm and always seem available even at peak hours. The 24 hours availability is a plus. The staff are always friendly always speak and have a smile.

Called the gym to see if they offered day passes to just try out the gym with being new in the area. Owner told me over the phone it is $10 for a day pass to try it out. Drove all the way there to have the owner try and scam me into a membership and told me it’s now $20 for a day pass. He tried lying and telling me he didn’t know I didn’t have a membership but that was pretty clear already as to why I was calling to try the gym in the first place. The owner only cares about his pockets and the gym is no where near as nice as the one in Highland Park, Madison Heights, Birmingham, Fraser, etc.

Lame gym got sucked into a contract. Always dirty. Lucky if staff bats you a hello on your way in. ** By the way just note you dont need to do a contract. Simply threaten to leave when signing up and they will fall to their knees to keep you there. Also membership is $25 a month. If they try to raise you any higher just know thats them trying to make a buck on you. ** Isnt worth the money in my opinion. Other powerhouses have 5x the amenities and are the same price. Also a quarter of the gym is locked off at night, and basically every day because the staff doesnt want to monitor it. This includes any stretching, boxing (singular.. ) bag and the few kettlebell they have.

I was in a friendly convo with the old front desk guy and I slipped & said I’ve lived here my whole life but am visiting now after recently moving to Florida. Good gym. Good people. Biggest downfall is they have no core room. Well they do but they have classes in it every morning and evening (the busiest times of the day). So if you are big with using the core room for exercise or stretching, and you workout before or after work, this probably isn’t the best gym in the area. Also, there is no sauna. My husband had a membership here but lost his job and needed to cancel. Gym membership or food for our family. After several phone conversations they agreed to let him cancel without additional fees because we just didn’t have the money. This was literally a year ago. Today he got a notification that a $650 collection was placed to his credit report by this company. That is really just sad that a company can charge you these fees for something you’re not even using. We never received a letter or intent or any type of bill requesting payment. I would think long and hard before getting a membership with this company, a company that has no decency for people struggling right now. People who aren’t asking for hand outs but simply asking to cancel because they can’t pay for the extra stuff and just trying to get by. The thing is, my husband would have eventually come back and reinstated his membership, but now he will never come back. Customer service and empathy is important when dealing with the public, you should take a class on that power house.

My husband and I recently moved and can no longer go to powerhouse so back in March I canceled! I went into the building and canceled my membership I was told they would bill me $180 that I would be charged to cancel. I never received a bill just continued to get charged our monthly fees. Then got charged the yearly fee. I called in question what I was being charge for they told me because I didn’t cancel within 30 days of the yearly fee that I got charge for the yearly fee. No one at that location seems to know what they are doing. The girl on the phone said a manager would call me never did. Im being charged once again our monthly fee after I’ve paid the 180 already. I had my husband call up there to ask them why they’re still charging us the man on the phone said that they would’ve never said that they would bill me and asked if I came into the location to cancel. My husband said I did he said well someone’s gonna need to come in again, that that’s not how they do things. Well clearly they have no clue how to run the business. Told him a manager would call him back. I’m livid! I agreed to pay the $180 to cancel even though we don’t live in the location anymore and there isn’t a location near us to use. I shouldn’t even have to pay a fee but now there are trying to say no one ever canceled. I will never go to a power house gym again! Don’t sign a stupid contract!!!!

Equipment is alright, things break fairly often and the establishment is untimely with repairs. Gym is often left dusty. When the huge dust balls were complained about the staff response saying that it was cleaned up, only to come in the next day for it to still be there. The lone water fountain is now broken and will electrocute you if used, found that out today. Staff oversells gym causing much congestion and over crowding in the gym

6 month review:
- Fairly clean but fills up quickly and you'll find yourself waiting for equipment to continue your routine due to it's small size.
- space is fairly cramped and you'll often have to watch out when using free weights
- No deticated Deadlift Area
- Most of the classes are ok at best but the male evening yoga instructor is steright up garbage.
- There are cheaper options for better chains nearby that don't require you to have a long contract.

I have been to many gyms in my time! And this is okay, they really need to fix equipment on time it sits there for weeks without being fixed. The sales representative Ron was rude to me recently in response to me only asking him if he listened to a local radio station in regards to a recent Michigan Wolverines game. His response to me was I'm busy working! He completely cut me off and went to lifting weights wasn't even working! Normally I don't have too much of a problem with a whole lot of people but if you are a sales representative you should be friendlier to customers than that or at least have a more professional answer, example: I'm sorry I'm incredibly busy at the moment I really don't have much time to talk. Normally I would never even put a review up but that really bothered me people can call me anything under the sun I don't care but if you are spoken to by a customer who is already paying you should give them a more friendly response not such a rude one that really offended me it was in front of everybody to. It will really help my decision now when my contract is up.

They took advantage of a language barrier and TRICKED my husband into signing a 1 year contract DURING AN ACTIVE PANDEMIC! My husband joined this gym in Michigan and moved to Texas 3 months ago. He went in person before the move to cancel the membership and they still have been taking funds from his account. He called them again AFTER we moved and is now being told that he has to come IN PERSON to fill out a form and they don’t do forms in the mail or online even though they NEVER told him this when he physically went into the office the first time. This is a poorly ran gym that tricks you into a bad contract. Majority of gyms will allow you to cancel your contract at any time. This one won’t, they are doing a horrible job at maintaining the integrity of the powerhouse name. They’re rude and don’t enforce mask rules. If you want to join a powerhouse gym, try Fraser’s, Southfield’s or Highland park’s. Also, Ron is not a man of integrity, he told me I could cancel my contract at any time but he didn’t mention that it would cost me an extra 180 dollars.

I have been a gym member here for years. I froze my gym membership for a couple months when the cases of COVID spiked. I am back now, ready to get back into a routine and there is not one person inside wearing a mask, including staff. Litterally not one person, except for myself. They are walking around as if there is not a contagious virus going around. Please beware if you're looking for a new spot because this isn't it.

I liked this gym until the pandemic hit. I previously tried to cancel my membership 4 months before the pandemic due to the uncleanliness of the gym and the creepy guys that seemed to follow me around during my workout. I was told I had to wait till April 2020 in order to do that without paying the remainder of those months. I decided to wait until then to cancel and still use the gym occasionally get my moneys worth.

During the pandemic I did receive notice that they would not be charging my account while closed. Recently I noticed my account is being charged and I was not notified that they were open or going to continue charging me. I called to see why I was charged with no notice and was told by the receptionist I would have to wait till a manager was in. Finally after a couple days I was able to speak with someone who informed me that I "should have checked my email" to find that they were back open. I explained to them that I do not feel comfortable returning to the gym to workout or to cancel my membership. they explained they could not undo the charges even though it was past my contract. I understand that the shutdown affected their business but they were ready to start charging everyone's accounts. I would expect them to be more sympathetic given the current circumstances. Finally they agreed to not charge me for canceling my membership. I did end up having to pay for that month though.
