I absolutely love this gym! The owner and the staff are amazing! They treat me like family every time I am in town. Mike is a dream and an amazing human being. He always makes sure that I feel welcomed when I am there. What's even better is that there are two gyms included in your membership. You can switch up your workouts and your environment. Arrived at 830p to do a guest workout visiting town. Checked the site and social. I see the hours note on Sunday is member access only. Otherwise 24/7 and there are staff hours. After spending $20 for the uber i arrive and the staff tells me its members only now no guests. I say “i checked the site it doesn’t say that, says it about Sunday but no other day.” Staff “Ya i know it’s super confusing”. So admitted the information posted was wrong. “No way u can make an exception?” “No”. So annoyed. Never had that in all the years of visiting gym. Especially rude. And in Troy on a Tuesday night how many visitors are coming in to make this an issue? Unbelievable. So cost me a $40 uber ride back and forth for nothing.

I have been a member for about 5(1/2) years. As of the new year 2025 they recently raised my membership pricing from $30->35 and justified it with building a new sauna at the Troy location. Normally I wouldn’t care about this price change, however there is a lack of transparency and when I confronted them and asked politely about the price change they said in our contract “we’re not obligated to let you know about price changes.” I laughed and said that’s ridiculous and asked if my membership price could be reverted back to $30. He said no, and I said ok I want to cancel my membership. The unprofessionalism and scams they run as business owners are criminal and disrespectful. With all due respect if you have any dignity or logical thinking you would not give either of these owners another penny…

As far as equipment goes the plates are a nice metal and machines are decent at best. Free weights and squat racks/benches are solid. The 24/7 aspect is nice but now you can pay a fraction of the price at a cheaper gym with way better machines and mediocre free weight/rubber plate section. As far as the actual gym venue goes, the place is crammed and tiny and the layout/functionality leaves little/no room for functional training. The Madison heights location is a little bigger and offers a bit more, but for not being able to use the training/boxing room at the Troy location it’s a complete and utter let down where they have trainers perform mediocre workouts with mediocre results. Smoothies are overpriced and so are their generic and overpriced supplement section… like they slightly market these supplements above market retail to make a quick buck LOL. Anyone with a simple google search could discover this for themselves! Now concluding the fact that I have the VIP membership, every time I brought guests I was looked down upon and they held some sort of resentment towards me and my guests. Frank would always hound down me and my guest before closing time and would constantly interrupt our workouts and rush us out as we were just about to leave. It’s rude and disrespectful and even left a bad taste in every guests mouth. They all said “whats his problem” or “is he always like that?” Another instance that portrays their morals and lack of respect is an instance where I came to get a workout in with my buddy who is a member as well. I ended up forgetting my keys at home with my membership card on it and since it was past hours I couldn’t get in. So instead of driving all the way back my friend and I both thought it would be ok if he swiped his and we both went in because we were both members and Frank knew both of us. Sadly that wasn’t the case Frank shut down my friends membership and charged him $50. Then when you ask for a refund or try to reason he tells you “sorry the security company took the money I can’t do anything about that.” I paid my friend the $50 and we both felt let down for such a minor misunderstanding. Even if you argue with them they will say “it’s all in the contract” and “we don’t want to be held liable for any injuries.” Like bro we signed a contract we couldn’t sue you if even if I wanted to…?

Summarizing my experience of PowerHouse Troy & Madison Heights I would argue that the facilities are very tiny and offer very little to no functionality/proficient training. The equipment is very outdated and limited in their selections. Free weight section is amazing and love the sleek metal plates! Mirrors and lighting within the gym is very good however posing mirrors in the bathrooms/mens locker room is underwhelming and not enough mirrors. Saunas in both locations are decent sizes, and very good hot temperatures. Ownership- no transparency or accountability will take advantage of every gym goer they get their hands on! Staff- pretty friendly and do a great job of organizing equipment. Not coming back, but hope they invest in better equipment, expand the gym, prioritize respect and decency with their clients, and stop scamming customers with their supplement section and smoothie prices LOL

As a member for years, I can arguably and proudly say that Powerhouse Troy, and its sister location- Madison Heights, are both incredible in their own unique fashions. You find community and culture, a clean and well taken care of gym with excellent equipment, and great ownership/staff.

Recently, Troy went under renovation. They now have a steaming sauna that all the members were excited to finally have at this location. With joy, the members have raved about how hot and nice this sauna is. I can attest to this. The sauna is great!

Proper sauna etiquette means that you respect the rules and guidelines set forth by the gym, such as but not limited to: no nudity, keeping the door closed, and leaving the time and temperature set at its standard.

I mention this, because it is quite unfair for some members to not follow the guidelines and complain to the staff, and leave rude reviews of Powerhouse being “unaccommodating,” because someone wants to sit in a sauna with the door open or lower the temperature. How does that make sense? A sauna is meant to be HOT.

By definition, a sauna is, “a small room used as a hot-air or steam bath for cleaning and refreshing the body.” And the sole purpose of this HOT room, “is to relax, sweat, and experience a range of health benefits.”

So, to the people who think it is “unfair” that staff did not lower the temperature or allow you to sit with the door open- letting cool air in which defeats the purpose of the room, It is actually unfair for you to ruin someone else’s time in the sauna. If it’s “too hot,” perhaps your body is unable to handle a sauna and you should speak with your doctor about that issue.

In 2025 this is a gym that’s trying to entrap people with ridiculous fine print contracts and turning people over to debt collectors. No integrity all around. Their behavior during covid was atrocious: defying orders in April and May 2020 and THEN taking a 6 digit PPP check from the government. Government bad one day, good when they’re getting >130k.

However disappointed about the customer service.
I was asking about why they locked the sauna thermostat and has permanently set it to max temp. The front desk said it’s because the majority of the people like it that way and I’m the only one who complains about it and states that there’s nothing they will or can so. In other gyms I’ve met a ton of people who expressed different temperatures preference. The front desk shut me down with a simple reason being “the majority of the people like it”. Logically I can understand this might be your best business decision, but personally it’s cold and rude. It gave me the vibe that they do not value individual experience. A gym should at least try to be accommodating to all members.

PowerHouse Troy is an amazing gym - if you’re like me and thought about it for a while just dive in - super clean, organized, great and wide variety of equipment, and exceedingly well run! I’m doing private training with Noah which makes it even more awesome! Open 24/7 so never an excuse to miss a workout and with the remodel the facilities are so nice. I have been a member at Powerhouse Gym since the mid 90's and I do not plan to change that anytime soon. All the staff is great, there is plenty of equipment and lots of options available for your training and nutrition needs. The gym is always impeccably clean and the equipment well maintained and the locker rooms just recently were remodeled and fitted with Dry Saunas, the place is awesome. Lots of parking and excellent location. The best part is you get access to two gym locations!

Unprofessional. Money hungry. Fine print contracts. Beware.

This gym has strict rules. More like planet fitness than you would think, just in red. I don't recommend them to my friends in the area. I was interrupted several times during my lifts because of their strict rules.

Cancellation process was a nightmare. The next months payment (after I called to cancel) was $35. I moved to go back to college and hadn't been to this gym in a year. They added the yearly gym fee to my next months payment, $50, to make $85. After trying to negotiate with the owner to allow me to pay the $35 only, I refused to pay the $85. Which led to a $104 total at the debt collectors. They sent a $104 payment to the debt collectors.

Beware of these gym contracts. They hid the automatic renewal clause and the 30 day notice of cancellation clause in fine print. That's how they got me. I threw my contract away because I didn't see the renewal. Then, they refused to negotiate.

This is not a good way to do business. I won't be signing any contracts like that again.

Did a day pass here the other night and gym is nice small and has everything you need to get workouts in. Sauna was new and a lot better then others in the area. Benches were nice no shoulder pressure even going heavier on sets. The owner sells a variety of supplements which is better then every gym I've been too and they also have a room for only personnel training. Highly recommend giving this gym a look.

Started as a member at this spot almost 5 years ago and something about it felt different. As someone that went to lifetime fitness for a better part of 15 years - the atmosphere always felt different. The personalized experience the staff provided to ALL members was enough to keep me even after I moved 30 minutes away. Absolutely the worst experiences at a gym. Upon signing up, I went in a couple of times and the gym is too packed, they seem to over sell the membership. Unless you opt in to the VIP membership which is 3x the regular rate. No one is ever in the VIP rooms/machines. I wanted to cancel, they said that you can't cancel the first 3 months and I was charged 5 times, including the annual which came out to $400 dollars. This is not lifetime fitness for them to be charging these prices, not worth it and the gym itself just sucks. I do not recommend!

The facilities are nice and I like the gym itself a lot. The fees are kinda unreasonable especially the annual fee. I tried canceling multiple times because I moved far away but you have to go in to cancel so I was paying and not even able to go and they were not understanding of this. I canceled in November but they’re charging me next years annual fee. Also when I originally signed up I felt swindled into a one year contract because it was not explained well to me. I was told I would pay monthly, which is correct, but they didn’t even mention the year long contract. I only found out about it when I tried to cancel. I don’t know, just felt a little shady with the management. If i’ve been a loyal, paying customer for over a year, you would think they would value a little more than this (with the cancellation and annual fee aspect). I’m not happy with the annual fee being charged after I cancel my membership.

George is also a great owner, always on site helping out, very accommodating, and awesome hospitality! Excellent equipment as well and two locations! I've been going to Powerhouse since I moved to the area in 2015 and I have never had a bad experience there. The owner George (who is was there every single day that I've been at the gym, he really shows he cares about his gyms and his members' fitness), every employee, and the other members are all the friendliest people I have had the pleasure of interacting with. The atmosphere of the gym is laid back with everyone being able to work out at their own pace and no one throwing weights around like a jerk. The equipment and machines are all up to date and in working order and they are constantly cleaning the gym to make sure it is ready for people to workout in comfortably. You will not regret joining!

Edit: This facility has become my second home. Staff and owner are so welcoming and kind. Joining this gym has helped me become more dedicated to my fitness journey. Awesome selection of protein snacks and beverages. I never have to wait too long to rotate from bench/machine.

Ended my crunch membership to join this gym and definitely is one of the best decisions I made in my fitness journey. It’s never over crowded. I can get my workout in without a bunch of teens hovering over a machine or benches. Staff is friendly and facility is clean.

This is a top-notch gym for beginners and seasoned gym goers alike. George, the owner, is always checking in on people and has set rules that make the gym a safe and welcoming environment. The facilities are stellar. Membership rates are very reasonable and flexible, with no surprise fees, which is a testament to how homely this place feels. If I could give this gym 6 stars, I would. I love that it’s a no fuss gym , but filled with people who are serious about their fitness goals. They are also family owned, well staffed, welcoming and the facilities are always clean. I LOVE that it’s open 24 hours. I highly recommend checking it out.

Planet fitness but in red. Insane rules like no gym bags, no grunting, no chalk etc. The gym was small but clean and had good equipment. I suggest going to the Edge Fitness if you are a serious lifter.

If you’re looking for a gym that respect you and makes you feel like family this is the spot to be. I was looking for a gym that wasn’t too commercial but commercial enough to not be intimidating when I first started lifting a few years back. Trust me when I say this is the spot, the culture is unbelievable. The owners George & Frank are guys I have looked up to since joining the gym in 2020. Instead of closing the gym when covid started they realized that so many people rely on the gym for not only physical health but for mental health.
They are much more than just business men. They are family & everyone I’ve talked to has told me the same thing.

Power House Gym is my favorite workout facility. I have belonged other places, but none compare. Friendly staff greets me by name every time I enter. Wonderful patrons are always respectrul and helpful. And a full line of awesome products from clothing to vitamins and tastey smoothies. Highly recommend. And, the gym is open 24/7!!!!

I cannot thank the owner of this powerhouse gym location enough for being open during the covid restrictions, it helped very much. A great place to unwind and reach new potential. A 24/7 gym is very hard to find nowadays. Has the old school gym feel and is kept clean.
