THE MENS LOCKER ROOM ALWAYS SMELLS TERRIBLE IT SMELLS LIKE SPOILED EGGS AND FISH. I HOLD MY BREATH EVERY TIME I GO IN THERE. SOMETIMES YOU CAN SMELL IT OUTSIDE THE LOCKER ROOM TOO. THE FLOOR NEAR THE MIRRORS IS ALWAYS DIRTY AT LEAST MOP THE FLOOR. The air quality in the entire gym is terrible.

I joined at this location since last Summer and here is my overall experience,

Customer Service: Hank signed me up and he was very friendly, professional with excellent customer service skills. Zane is also another associate here who is both helpful and respectful. Overall their cusotmer servuce skills is 5/5.
Equipmemts: They have plenty of workout equipments options, however, some of these equipments need maintenance or adjustments. I guesd they need to take a look at some of these old equipments and to immediately fix or replace them. I give them here 3/5 .
Pricing: Their monthly fees is reasonable but you also need to pay anual fees whoch is common nowadays in many Gyms. Overall I give them here 4/5.
Parking: plenty of parking here and you should.never have a problem finding one 5/5.
cleanliness: Its ok and can needs to be improved specially the forcing area and even bathrooms. Some of the locking boxes need to be replaced as they seem vey old. I give them 3/5
Music: They keep playing same boring music over and over and over, I give them 1/5.

Overall, there is so much things here should be improved at this location except their associates who are doing great job. My message to the owner, when you increase your monthly or annually charges or fees, you need to use some of the money for your gym improvements, and this how you can retain & grow your customers.

Do I recommend this place: Yes to some extent.
Might revisit this comment in future.

I am adjusting my starts ratings from 4 to 2 bc bathrooms/toilets are super dirty during the weeeknd. No toilet papers and trash is everywhere with disgusting smell.

I am revising my review on November 11th. I am seriously considering changing gyms due to the extremely cold temperatures at 5 AM, especially given the snowy conditions and temperatures in the low 60s. Consequently, I am reducing my rating by one star.

Jen is a great Zumba coach. We have a lot of fun 🤩 and is encouraging. If Zumba is new to you, don’t worry about being the best. She and the other instructors love having you there. 40$ bi-weekly, 80$ a month is their price, and they will do everything they can to hide it from you. I'll share my experience. So went to the website. Told I needed to click on membership. All that did was link me to all amenities they got and asked for my contact info. So, filled it out. Then they emailed me and said I should call or visit for the price. I emailed back saying I wasn't going through all that effort and just wanted the price. Then I literally just got a phone call. Guy: "Hey I heard you called our gym. What were you looking for?" Me: "Price of membership." Guy: "Anything in particular you're looking for?" Me: "...Price of membership, like I just said." Guy: "Well we have a lot of stuff, what are you looking to do?" Me: *getting exasperated* "Man, I'm just looking to lift some dumbells, but I gotta know how much I'm signing up for." Guy: "Yeah so we have different memberships, you been here before?" Me: "Obviously not...?" Guy: "So we do biweekly, we do 28 or 38." Me: "......So it's 40$ a month?" Guy: "Yep! Would you like that in cash, card, when do you wanna visit?" Me: "......I just wanted to know the price. And I shouldn't have had to jump through this many hoops to get it." *hangs up*

Edit: I literally recieved a phone call from the gym less than 60 seconds after posting this review. And a text. Why did you call me again? We have nothing to discuss. I'm not interested in joining this gym. But I will give others info of what to expect so they don't end up in the same position as I did. This is by far the best gym I’ve ever been to in my entire life. I started out when I was young, eager, and ready to workout. The gym itself if great, but the people there is what really brought me to love powerhouse ypsi. The first day I started, I met Akram, and now me and him are best friends. Me and him push each other to our limits and beyond every day we workout together. Definitely a great worker who bring joy and life into my workouts. To go even further with my review, when I attempted 495 on bench, I failed, and Akram showed up to the scene to spot me. The very next week, I reattempted with him spotting me and hyping me up, and I got the rep up, and he congratulated me and it was just such an amazing feeling. All props to him, and the amazing gym!

Great gym, it has all the equipments. I was previous going to another big chain, but the lack of diversity on the equipments made me change, besides the location more close to my house. People that goes there are looking for serious training, instead of a bunch of kids using one equipment and in their cell phone at the same time. This is what I like the most. The only con is that the space is small and the machines are super close to each other, that's why I don't give 5 starts.

Very messy with payment methods. Inquired weeks ago about the end of my contract with a manager after I had been charged twice, and she explicitly let me know that it was the end of my contract. However, a month later, I was charged yet again. I was informed that “all contracts will continue to be payed monthly after the end of a contract” despite no warning when I signed up or when I talked to her weeks prior. Gyms like this like to add these details in fine print in contracts and take advantage of their customers. I would not recommend you invest your money in these scammers.

It was a wonderful place back in the late 2000s but after being in Novi, Northville and the old Westland gym. This gym is very small compare to the others. I don’t recommend it if you’re coming from Novi and Northville. You’re paying a lot for a smaller gym and worn out equipment. Plus at least 90 square feet of the gym is locked up bc of yoga classes. It’s time for a major renovation and upgrades

I have been going to this gym for a little more than a year now. They have gone downhill. I will be canceling my gym membership. I have been walking in that gym everyday and no one decided to tell me my payment method was not changed correctly until I went to the bank. They kept letting me in the gym while charging me repeatedly now having a balance of -$98 in an account. No phone call, email, or even just stopping me. They now have employees that are incredibly nasty, not even a wave or hi back. They have employees that clean during the busiest times with nasty looks on their faces when you are trying to use the gym. A new machine is broken everyday and new hole in the wall appears everyday. They do not bother to fix anything. There are constantly little to no wipes. What happened to all the amenities in the locker rooms??

I do wish they had duplicates of leg machines so I wouldn't have to wait for the specific machine that I wanted. The newly updated dumbbells bumped this review from a ~3.5 to a 4 star. This Powerhouse absolutely rocks! I was looking for a gym to hit up in the area while visiting family in Saline, and stopped in for a free workout at Powerhouse. I liked it so much I bought a week pass and will only return here when I'm in town!

The gym has all the equipment you'd need: two sets of dumbbells, several benches, machines, a studio, etc. The gym is super clean and also never gets too crowded which makes workouts a breeze every time. I tried Crunch and Anytime in Ann Arbor and this beats them both hands-down!

I absolutely love this gym! Free fitness classes, great members, and very friendly and accommodating staff. The managers Jordan and Erica gave this gym a much-needed upgrade and complete overhaul! The gym and equipment are ALWAYS clean. The guy who does the cleaning does an absolutely incredible job! The personal trainers are very approachable and well read! I hired Dennis as my personal trainer, and I cannot say enough positive things about him! I am down 20 lbs, putting on muscle and am very optimistic for the future! Been doing personal training with Dennis for about 6 months, main goal being to prevent back and knee pain I started getting after 2 years of staying inside during covid. He was able to guide me through different routines and how to use the equipment throughout the gym; very knowledgeable about how to modify a workout if it doesn't feel right. We've more than achieved my goal of being pain free, now focusing on gaining strength that I can maintain for life.

Highly recommend trying out training here if you find yourself not knowing where to start, and Dennis is a great trainer to go with

It's fine. Staff is very friendly and approachable. This location isn't that large and it's hard to get equipment during peak hours which is to be expected based on the size, but still frustrating. Aside from that, with the exception of the fact that a lot of people don't unload their equipment and the jammed knobs on machines, I'm happy with the selection. Kids zone was a big selling point.

Not worth the money. They tell you you can join for $1 then $17 then $19... and at the end you're paying that plus other fees. My overall membership is $35/mo and its for like 18 months. Every time I called to see when my membership ended, nobody could tell me besides "some day in March 2023"...that's definitely weird bc I obviously don't want it to renew and it'd be just my luck that they'll loop me in for another 18 months right? Buy out is over $100 and as of 11/30/22 I am just now getting the actual date I can cancel....took me 6 months to get a straight answer.

Gym is full of broken, old equipment and never gets fixed. This morning I tried all five recumbent bikes before I found one that wasn’t rickety, squeaking, or just broken. Weight machines look like they are from 1980 and many of them are broken in some fashion (like you can’t adjust the weight). The only reason I wouldn’t give this gym one star is that the classes are fun and the teachers are nice. Otherwise I do not recommend.

This place fell off bad since the pandemic happened. It’s like the place doesn’t have any type of legitimacy or prestige since George and Nevada left. The gym even went downhill since powerhouse saline closed down and all the extra people from saline go to the gym. Talk about teenagers yelling shouting all over the gym young 20 year olds ego lifting hogging up space in the gym even people bring many random guest after hours who don’t have respect for people or the gym the owner needs to look more into this gym management is full of children

I was a member from 2018-2022. Since the Saline PH closed, all the overly entitled jerks doubled and no one shares equipment anymore. Teenagers and young 20’s with poor lifting habits, screaming at each other (not a comfortable setting). Staff and management when down hill after the pandemic.
I never felt comfortable using the 24 pass after staff hours because members still let random people in.
For the price and lack of upgrades/perks its not worth it.
I canceled my membership a week before my next scheduled payment and they still made me pay another month.. must be a lot of people leaving and need to suck every last penny from you
Only redeeming thing about this place is the cleaning guy (if he’s still there). He was awesome at his job and the dumb kids complained he was “in the way” or just rude to him.

I love this gym!! My husband and I recently moved to Ann Arbor and tried every gym in the area. Powerhouse was definitely our number one pick! The location right off the highway is very convenient traveling from Ann Arbor. All the employees are super friendly. There’s enough weights and equipment that even during busy hours you won’t be waiting to do exercises. They have a separate powerlifting room with lots of racks and barbells that I absolutely love!
I have yet to try a group fitness class but look forward to doing so with the large variety they offer. The other members ( who are all ages from all walks of life) are very friendly and all seem very dedicated to their workouts which is always motivating. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is because some of the equipment and benches could use some maintenance or be replaced. Over all, I’m so glad we found this gym and would recommend to anyone.

I was a member pre-covid in 2019-2020. The gym shut down during the beginning of the pandemic and I called to make sure they weren't charging me anymore after a couple of months of being closed and also said I was moving away so I wanted my membership (both mine and my husbands) canceled altogether. I even have email exchanges to confirm this. They must've been struggling during the covid shut down because they ended up taking me to collections!!!! Odd thing is that me and my husband were both on the same ccount...his was cancelled and mine went to collections?!! It made absolutely no sense. I didn't receive any notice from powerhouse that I "owed them" anything...just received a collections bill in the mail. I feel like they are total frauds and had zero right to take anything to collections on my account because 1. They had my credit info stored for auto-payments 2. They were shut down due to the pandemic 3. I requested cancellation of my membership due to the pandemic plus moving out of town 4. I received no notice of past due payments 5. I hadn't been to the gym whatsoever once the pandemic hit. They had zero merit to take my membership to collections!!!!

Nothing but positives for my Powerhouse gym and my trainer Dennis Paquette. He was there for me and my family - including through the pandemic - with our needs. Always finds the right challenge for me with my sessions. I had my son, who took a year off from college due to Covid, start working with him to prepare for college football. Recently, me and my brother had an assessment session with Dennis, professional fitness trainer, and that’s the reason i came to write a review.

Dennis is a professional, experienced and committed trainer. The variety of techniques in strength training, ability to assist clients with specific plans for their individual goals and so on - Dennis is one of the few professional trainers who you can trust.

His puts his client’s goal ahead of anything and will go extra mile to guide you and help you achieve your desired results.

Whether you are his client or not, he won’t mind stepping in to help you if you seek assistance.

I’d recommend talking to him if you feel you not on track or have some specific goals or even anything you don’t understand what it is you need when you hit gym. 😊

Was going to check it out, but the cost of the membership is just not worth the drive or the average equipment selection. The only advantage over a place like planet fitness is their free weight area at least is deadlifting capable unlike the lack of one at PF.

They added months to my monthly billed contract due to the pandemic and never clearly communicated that. I have an email from a manager in September 2020 explaining that my contact would be up in May 2021 but when I emailed to confirm in February they insisted October 2021 and would not honor the email sent back in September. Corporate was also absolutely no help and didn’t follow up on my original concerns, not shocking. The management team including Abbi The gym manager are unorganized and unprofessional. I’ve never had such poor communication from a gym before. Would give 0 stars if possible

If I could leave 0 stars I would. Not only is this place extremely unsanitary, but the costumer service when you attempt to address any sort of concern is atrocious. Wouldn't even bother. Go to crunch gym in ypsilanti instead!

The management in this establishment is unbelievably irritating trying to scam people in the middle of a pandemic. The unprofessional lack of communication to answer any of my questions/requests and zero acceptance of responsibility Is doing the absolute most.

Thieves!!! Stealth reenactment of my month to month membership, without informing me. I cancelled on the phone, but they don't tell you that doesn't count, and lie about informing you of reinstating the account after COVID restrictions are lifted. Stealth charges which the refuse to remove even thought they can see I stopped attending. Don't get distracted by the many fake 5 star reviews...read the real reviews at one star to get the actual story from real customers.

After spending nearly a decade at this gym I have realized they just don't care about people. With covid not going away this gym doesn't care if you were your mask into the gym or not. They have signs and a temp gage but very few people are wearing masks. I understand its not easy to work out with a mask but its to much of a risk not to. I mean look at the stats. Even NFL football players are getting covid and they are tested. Not one person entering the gym is tested and could be asymptomatic. I tried to ask the front desk why people don't have to wear a mask and she said only people who are high risk have to. Riduculious. Shame on this gym. Stay away unless your willing to roll the dice. I am not with a pregnant wife. Even if I continue to wear a mask and the guy next to me refuses whats the point.

I have now tried 4 separate times to cancel. They lost my request each time and continued to charge. They never say how they’ll fix it each time. I now live in Chicago and can’t go in but the only way to cancel is in person. This place is a decent gym but they’re going to rip you off when it comes time to cancelling. Go to literally any other gym. I also still haven’t gotten a call back from the manager so that’s great too.

Cancelled my membership then was charged. Stopped by and was told that they would take care of it. Next month, more charges and a late fee. I stopped by again to say I had already cancelled the membership, and was told it was a misunderstanding and that we were all set. Now I have a collection showing on my credit report all because the staff couldn't do it's job. Now with covid they are closed and I can't reach anyone to take care of this!

I love everything about this gym. The staff is very friendly and extremely helpful. I loved my fitness assessment with Dennis. The assessment provided an in-depth analysis of my current fitness level and helped me establish specific goals. There is more than enough equipment offered, and I rarely have to wait to use equipment. I enjoy how the gym is laid out. The locker rooms are clean and well-stocked. The Powerhouse app is cool and useful. I have not participated in any classes yet, but I am impressed at how many are offered throughout the week. I love that I have unlimited guest privileges too!

You are unable to cancel your membership unless you pay $179 (a buy out option) even if your moving out of the area. No flexibility in this option. The manager told me i should have done month to month if i knew i was moving. I told her i was un aware at the time of signing up and most people in my situation are.

I have been a member at many gyms and Powerhouse is as good as any of them. The staff and personal trainers are really friendly. Emily my personal trainer whipped us into shape in no time.
