I commute about 10 miles one way to attend this gym, and it has a lot to offer for my fitness journey. The facility is equipped with everything I need, and most of the staff is friendly and welcoming. However, some of the equipment is outdated or frequently marked with βout of orderβ signs, including the steam room, which was recently upgraded but still unavailable at times.
While sanitation wipes are provided, the dirt and debris buildup around several machines is concerning and takes away from the overall experience. With better upkeep and more consistent maintenance, this gym could truly live up to its full potential.

Staff is incredibly, incredibly rude, manager does not respond to complaints, and I was treated pretty awful here. Staff should not be allowed to talk condescendingly to gym goers. Beware guests - no one deserves to be treated like that.

Iβve been going here for years and never had any issues. However, recently Iβve seen group classes in the wide open, blasting music and a lady on an absurdly loud microphone barking orders. I understand itβs a gym and thereβs going to be noise and commotion, but itβs crazy that Iβve been scolded on multiple times for grunting a little too loudly or making a bit of noise. Now itβs a full on dance club over there and it just feels like a slap in the face to people who have been supporting this club for years and years now. Equipment is also frequently out of order or just downright old and rusted. Just disappointing to see the downfall lately. Looks like they are fully focused on bringing in new clients, not taking care and respecting the loyal vets. Oh wellβ¦

Iβve been a loyal member of this gym for over 10 years, but sadly itβs gone completely downhill. They promised us members turf space that we were excited forβonly to turn around and rent it out to Mad Dog Fitness classes that are loud, obnoxious, and completely disrupt the atmosphere. Itβs clear the owners care more about outside money-making opportunities than the loyal members whoβve been supporting this place for years.
The equipment is old, rusted, and often out of order, and the owners are incredibly rude and unapproachable. They make no effort to engage with or support the community they built this gym on. Itβs frustrating to watch them pour energy into profit-driven ventures while neglecting the needs of actual members.
This place used to feel like home, but now it just feels like a cash grab. Disappointed is an understatement.

I signed up for a membership here a year ago and pay for every game I play tennis.
I play tennis one to two times a week, but two or three times a month they mess up my bills. When my friends or my brother goes to play tennis, they mess up and use my billing information. So I always have to keep an eye on my bank account. It's sad that they don't remember me, and having to check my bank account every time is really tiring.
And it would be great if there was a tennis membership here. It would be nice if they could create a tennis membership and make us pay when we use the gym, instead of the other way around. They probably know that there are a lot of people here who only play tennis.
------------------------------
I just checked it out your voice message. That's right. All refund issues were resolved now.
However I want to talk about last Dec again. Last December I printed out my bank statements. My husband often plays tennis with friends and pays for it himself. But there were four or five incorrect tennis expenses recorded there.
It turned out that you charged us incorrectly and for that instance, we were able to talk about the problem. But you refunded the cost to my brother instead of me. I couldn't understand this. We were worried for about 2-3 weeks because the refund didn't come in our account.
It's not just this. It is clear that you don't remember your members. Last Wednesday my husband received a voicemail from you guys. The content of the voicemail asked, βYou are scheduled for 7 to 9 p.m. tonight. Who are you planning to play tennis with?β But we never made a reservation. We called right away and confirmed you were mistaken. I'm okay with things like this. However, we had to check our bank account again in case we were charged again. This makes us so tired.
As I was writing the review, I was wondering if you were or weren't considering a tennis membership. I hoped there would be an explanation for that, but there is no answer.

Love this place. So much more opportunities. If tennis or racquetball is your thing, they got you. Maybe swimming is how you want to get in shape. Got that too. Want to relax in the hot tub or sauna? Got you covered. Just here for the pump? They have a wide selection of cable and free weights. Stair climbers and stationary bikes, no wait time. And free lockers. Can't beat this facility for the money.

Not a good place if you lift weights. First off, Iβve been going here 6 days a week for almost a year and Iβve really tried to be open minded about this place but I canβt stand it anymore. Itβs literally the hottest gym Iβve ever worked out in, the thermostats read 75Β°-80Β° almost every time I look. Some people might enjoy that, but itβs not good if youβre there to lift. Along with that, there is almost no air flow. The small ceiling fans 50 feet in the air donβt do anything. Secondly, they said all the equipment was new within the past year when I signed up. No, point blank, I was lied to. The white equipment has to be older than me judging by the rust, scuff marks, wear and tear, and is horrible compared to new equipment that Renaissance and Planet has. Finally, they received a 3 million dollar tax break for expansion and improvements. Where is that going besides the new courts and pool? The building looks straight out of the 90βs and needs a lot of work. I was told by the people at the front desk that there are no plans for new gym equipment or general renovations so I donβt have any faith that it will be modernized anytime soon. If you want the same amenities, go to Renaissance instead. This place is going to go under if it doesnβt start doing work to appeal to Millennials and Gen Z. Your older clients might not care now, but one day theyβll stop coming and youβll have to appeal to the younger people who expect a much better experience.

I really enjoy playing tennis at South shore! Especially the Tuesday night cardio class. The new tennis director, Adam, is really doing an awesome job and he's a great coach.
I'm giving 4 out of 5 stars because I think there should be a tennis only membership. I play 1 to 2 times a week (maybe 3 if I'm lucky) and with my work/life schedule... I truthfully do not have time to come use the gym. I would prefer to pay for a tennis membership and pay a little extra on the days I might decide to use the gym.

From an unbiased perspective: the gym itself needs a whole new culture change. Few friendly staff(grace) but overall bad gym culture: very judgmental atmosphere.
-poorly trained, poorly engaged personal trainers. They spend more time watching YOU than the client. save your money. Get outside in nature. Itβs free and is actually engaging on a psychological and metabolic level. Best gym in the area? Renaissance athletic club.

This is a great place. There's a nice big pool, a hot tub, and a steam room. The open area is often free except when there are aquatic classes. The gym is large with a variety of machines and weights and a track. There's a large area where people congregate just to talk. There's are locker rooms upstairs and downstairs, showers, and bathrooms. The water from the showers tends to leak onto the floor, but that's minor. There are also scales for weighing. I don't do Racquetball, but I've been very happy with the fitness classes. I believe there are family pool times and vacation activities for kids. The front desk would know. They always answer the phone. Best of all, it's not a place where you'd feel uncomfortable. Mornings, there are lots of senior citizens. The place participates in Silver Sneakers. I don't feel like I need to have the latest gym outfit. It's laid back, expansive, and well-run. Sure, the showers could be nicer, but the number of showers, the lockers for which you get a key and all the possibilities for a good workout make up for that. I have nor made use of the massage therapist. I am new to the place and impressed.

LOVE coming here except when this one lady I think her name is Sandy works. She just always looks unhappy with her job and when spoken too sheβs kind of rude. Pool, sauna, hot tub, free weights (up to 100lbs), basketball, tennis, pickle ball, treadmills, ellipticals, stairs, and various weight machines. Add in the classes and and daycare. This gym has everything I need and more. The staff is friendly. Only really crowded day is Monday usually. Other members are plenty friendly and most are respectful of others. I spend a couple hours here 4 days a week and have for a few months. There is wear and tear on the equipment but nothing off putting to the point of not feeling comfortable using it. Iβve been to brand new gyms that didnβt have wear but they also didnβt have the same atmosphere and members never wiped down equipment or put weights back. The wide range of ages here makes a difference. They have a little something for everyone.

Miss Liz is THE absolute best for swim lessons! We took two of our boys to three other places prior (on & off between the time one of them was 6 months thru age 8; the other was age 5 by the time we arrived at Liz's pool) and you couldN'T tell they had been swimming for years. No where have they both made such drastic progress. We're talking --- they came to her with fear of/refusing to put faces in the water, and already during lesson #1, I was impressed with where she got them. By lesson #3 I wanted to know whose kids those were. Miss Liz's leadership is not pushover, nor overbearing (both of which my children had experienced prior), and 4 semesters later (even taking summers off from lessons entirely), my boys honestly don't want to swim for anyone else! I can't highly recommend Liz enough!!! She doesn't just deserve 5 stars here on Google --- I'd say π― gold stars!

Nice place, clean, however the staff has a lot to be desired. Cant receive accommodating answer. I joined late December. Hours at that time were doable. They close the pool on spring break for 10 days or so. Then during summer months they close pool at 4 on weekends. I'm like really people do work. So it's a real disappointment for the money you pay and the amount of swim time that is actually available per what they state in there website. I suggest if you want to swim find another place.

IMO- Any big city/town but st joseph this is a 3-3.5 star gym....in st joe itβs 4 star gym.
Overview:
-$55-105 per month
- extra for racquetball/tennis/court membership ($10 more for single)
-extra again for tennis ($10 each time but can split cost with partner(s)
- only gym Iβve been to that offers a beer/wine/cocktail for 3 bucks after you workout
-sometimes popcorn machine is on for everyone- itβs the simple things !
Goods:
-only gym in area w/ technically everything you need/want in a gym (weights/cardio/ classes/ pool/sauna/steam/tennis/basketball/track/yoga studio/soon,etc)
-usually not so crowded you canβt workout
-classes mostly free or low price
- friendly staff
Other notes:
- initiation fee (may be waived if you join annually but then penalty if you leave)
- try to tie you annual membership
- looks like it was a 5 star gym in the 70βs but never really upgraded look
- could use a new commercial grade gym carpet across the whole facility
-limited classes on weekends/Friday
- hours can be prohibitive if you work outside norm (example sundays close at 5 during off season)
