Misrepresentation and No Support from Edge Fitness Farmington / EdgeCares
I joined Edge Fitness Farmington on August 22, 2025 after clearly asking for a monthly, pay-as-you-go membership. The staff member at the front desk confirmed it was a monthly plan, so I signed based on that understanding. Later, I discovered that I was actually locked into a 12-month contract without being told about it at all.
I also purchased what I was told was a $60 trial offer for two personal-training sessions. Instead, I was unknowingly enrolled into an auto-renewing bi-weekly contract that started charging $119.99 every two weeks. When I questioned this, I realized the agreement had been set up completely differently from what was explained to me in person. (They do not have a page to track how many training sessions were left/used for the payments you make.)
I reached out to EdgeCares and ABC Fitness multiple times, explaining the misrepresentation at the time of sale and providing proof (agreements (I never agreed while discussing, but signed by misleading)) and screenshots(No proper receipt for payments). Instead of addressing the issue of misleading sales practices, their responses only repeated generic contract policies and avoided the actual concern. Even after several follow-ups, I have received no response from EdgeCares regarding the misrepresentation.
It’s disappointing that a brand like Edge Fitness does not take accountability when customers are clearly misled at sign-up. Please double-check every line before signing anything, and do not rely on what staff verbally promise you — the reality may be very different.
The Edge Fitness Clubs might reply to you, but they do not actually care about anything. They keep on repeating the same thing about the policies being properly documented, but never admit or address the issues of time of sales misrepresentation.

It was completely disturbing how they treated me. First they refused to cancel my membership even though I live over 15 miles from their establishment, which stated in the code on conduct is an exception when canceling a membership. Secondly when the 1 year contract, that they didn’t inform me about, finally ended they charged me a reinstatement fee of 59.99 and for the month of October. I have never gone to the gym since the one time I went this time last year. They have been extremely rude, unethical, and untrustworthy. High recommend that you Do Not use Edge Fitness Clubs. Especially if you want good ethical, helpful training, and customer service. Hands down the WORST experience with them.

Their customer service is terrible. There’s no proper response when you try to cancel your membership. They ask you to email abcfitnessclub, but even after you do, you never receive a reply. Yet, they have the audacity to send payment reminders while completely ignoring your cancellation request.

10/07/2025 - Didn't hear anything from Edge Cares
I joined Edge Fitness Farmington Hills on 08/22/2025 with the clear request for a monthly membership so I could continue only if I liked the gym. The sales representative assured me it was a monthly, pay-as-you-go plan. Based on that, I signed and even paid cash at the counter.
Later, I discovered I had been locked into a 12-month contract without this ever being explained to me. To make matters worse, even when I paid dues in cash, my bank account was charged again.
I also signed up for what I was told was a $60 promotional package for two trial personal training sessions. Instead, I was enrolled in an auto-renewing plan charging $119.99 every two weeks, which I never agreed to. I only found out when unexpected charges appeared on my bank statement.
When I tried to resolve this at the club, the staff member avoided speaking with me and told me to email customer service. ABC Fitness (the billing company) then refused to help, saying they are “bound by club policies.”
This is a misrepresentation and a misleading sales practice. I have already escalated my case to Edge Member Experience and am pursuing a resolution. But I want to warn others: please review every document carefully before signing, and do not rely only on what the sales staff tells you.
I hope Edge Fitness takes accountability and improves transparency in their membership and training sales process.

Solid gym. I was a little hesitant to switch to Edge when I saw all the reviews about it being crowded and machines being broken. I’ve been here for a few weeks now and none of that has been an issue for me. I’m also a morning gym goer so it’s usually less crowded. This place has all the amenities I want and then some. I love using the women’s only studio and the Edge cinema occasionally. Also helpful that they have a shake bar on the days, especially for the days when I’m out of protein powder or don’t feel like making a shake at home.

NEW REVIEW: The customer service/sales people here are as nice and honest as you expect salespeople to be, but you CANNOT cancel your membership in person, which means you have to endure the rigmarole of working with an email "customer service" system that I think is AI?
I recently broke my collarbone and that combined with my kids changing schools led us to conclude we needed to switch gyms. No hard feelings, just life changed. There was the typical "gotta pay us one more time because we need 30 days' notice, which sucks, but they gotta make get that last payment, whatever.
Apparently, my wife's contract (she did eventually sign up) started later and I have yet to get a clear answer on if they'll even let us cancel? It's weird and cryptic, and has only been made worse by the fact that I'm emailing with either a person or robot who has only the loosest grasp of the English language, so I don't actually know what it will take to end my membership, or if I successfully put in the request in the first place.
TLDR: It's a great gym with reasonable rates, as long as you feel comfortable making a life-long commitment, since canceling your membership may require a lawyer, shaman, IT consultant and divine intervention.
Old review: My wife ended up not signing up here because she was really turned off by the salespeople and what she felt was a lack of transparency around some of the fees.
Overall, I think it's about as good a value as you can hope for if you're looking for a gym with child care, but definitely need to be aware that they will try to upsell you whenever they can.
Still, the equipment is in good shape, I rarely have to wait to use a machine and the child care folks put off good vibes so it works for me.

Great gym! Very clean with lots of options for machines and free weights! I’ve been working out for 15 years and have been to different facilities and I highly recommend this location. This gym is better than any of the powerhouse and planet fitness in the area. They also have a really good sauna that isn’t too hot! Very friendly front desk staff and Evan was very kind and professional.

Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else to get your workouts. Good luck to cancel your membership, I'm battling with the system now. PLEASE BE AWARE, THEY WILL NOT TELL YOU THAT THERE'S A FEE FOR $62.99 AFTER YOUR FIRST FEW WEEKS. Don't believe nothing and go some other facility. Trust me, some machines were not working and the machines were barely clean.
If you ask for the documents you signed, they will tell you will get them by email. That's a lie! You will get the document generated after you attempt to cancel and will be stuck paying extra for nothing. You will be charged extra no matter what.
When you ask to talk to a manager: He will not be there or He will not be available.
I will give 0 stars but google doesnt let me.
They can start your membership but they can't cancel it.

Naytia is wonderful! She's the fitness new membership manager in Farmingting Hills. All the questions I had she was able to answer, she toured the facility with me and introduced me to some of the trainers. She was super nice. I felt comfortable sharing what I needed for my fitness journey and she gave solutions immediately for my progress. The facility is super clean, the staff is nice, and they have a MOVIE THEATER here yall !!! You can workout in the movie theater, can somebody say innovative! Their #1 already for fitness clubs in my book! Also, it's not expensive to join so check it out if your looking to start that health journey. Don't wait, do it now!!

I've been coming here for a few months now. I have not done a lot of extras or classes, but this is a very nice facility. It is always clean. All the staff and members have been kind and respectful. The sauna and showers are clean. Machines are repaired quickly. Even at busy times I haven't had an issue finding enough machines/space.

I was a member here for over 5 years and also had a kids club membership for my son that whole time as well. They randomly jacked up the yearly fee in January for kids club to $60 and I was already contemplating switching gyms because I was moving, but that made me cancel earlier than I would have. I paid for one more month after cancelling, but somehow they have a bill for almost $400 on my account! They steal from you. Dont go here! Other gyms are better. They don't have ANY paper towels in the restroom either. They suck.

I was unfortunately very disappointed in this gym. I signed up for a 3-day trial with my boyfriend, and used all 3. During those 3, not once were we asked how things were going, how our experience was, or what even made us come to this gym. We never even received a tour of the facility. The machines are also quite crowded, and I was constantly having to rearrange my routine as machines were being used. I was never told about pricing options, or amenities. In addition, a lot of time people were recording their works outs in the middle of the floor. While, I am all for sharing good tips- it makes it hard to feel comfortable doing your own thing there. Overall, the lack of customer service or care made me move on to try alternative gyms. I never received a text or voice mail checking in after my trial either... was quite disheartening.

Just about every Saturday I drive thirty minutes to come workout at this gym. I've actually have gotten to know others who also work out there& of course the staff too. Every time I go it's always great energy, friendly and the workers there do a great job maintaining so much! I wish I lived closer so that I could come everyday. But I do always look forward to coming on the weekends! If you're looking for a new home gym, look no further!

If you want a seamless experience for your family, go to another gym! What originally solidified my membership was the Kids Club. I drive 30 mins to the Farmington location (past other gyms) because of the Kids Club membership. Due to short staffing, I’ve driven to the gym 2 days in a row THIS WEEK and have not been able to work out effectively. On Friday, March 21st, my child and I extended grace while we waited for entry. 30 mins later, we are allowed to proceed with check in to be told that the gym is closing 30 mins earlier than advertised (due to short staffing). This left me with a 20 min workout window versus the hour that I prepared for. Saturday, March 22nd, there are signs all over the front door advising parents, yet again, that Edge Gym is at capacity (due to short staffing). The supervisor present, had 4 staff in the front desk area, attempting to justify why the front desk traffic is more important to accommodate…instead of supporting the members that actually needed help. I cautioned him to consider that parents pay for a membership for their child/ren in addition to the general membership. Therefore, active and considerate measures to support ALL members would be greatly appreciated. It’s just a mess there!

Joined in early December, I like the edge a lot. As a woman, I tend to feel pretty comfortable here, more so than other gyms I’ve been a member of. The staff is amazing for the most part!!! The front desk workers are such wonderful people and the cleaning staff is equally amazing :)) However… the amount of content creators is crazy and I find it weird the locker rooms have a ton of showers but don’t offer towels. The sauna is also … not the cleanest and the lockers get wiped out maybe once a week. Also I’m pretty sure I got ripped off on my ‘initial personal training session’
All those facts aside, I will be continuing at the edge! It’s got a great variety of equipment and my qualms with it aren’t make or break but 3 stars because I do think the way they let 5+ ppl make content at any given time all across the gym is crazy. NOBODY wants to be in the back of anybody’s workout video, there are so many gyms that are MADE for content creators !!! The edge is not the one !!

This gym management allowed an employee (Chianne) to steal my personal information and sent me a very disturbing text because I called her rude. They also take funds out of your account after you’ve already canceled the membership. Stand very clear of this gym as they allow their employees to do whatever they like!
Update to their response : she of course used a fake number which is possible. Of course it’s no evidence because of that reason. I still received text messages from her about my weight. She took the number because she had access to the records. She stole my information from yous all system. I’m in talks with a lawyer for breach . She should be terminated period!

Very bad experience..not gonna come again here.the first thing they never respond you email and call.if they respond you on the email they not gonna resolve your problem..I had to freeze my account for some Medical condition and had to leave the country for 5 months. I asked them to freeze my account on this they said they can freeze my account for 3 month with the doctor's prescription through email..I did but they didn't respond then I went back to gym and asked them but they said they can't do this..I did email again but they deined.. club management is also not good...so pleased dont waste your money here..

This club used to be great and I recommended it to everyone, but now they don't enforce rules clearly posted multiple places in the club and on their website (such as wearing athletic shoes at all times on the floor and the turf) but they do enforce "rules" that aren't posted anywhere in the club or on the website... Now they are also reducing the use of the body scan to once a month by appt only. Other locations seem to have different (better) policies and are open 24 hours m-th... Just not as good quality as it was in the past sadly...

I came to this gym with a friend to ask about membership pricing and amenities. We were greeted by the GM who, after saying why we were there, said she would hand us off to another employee. We just wanted some info but that was fine. The membership person we spoke with was all business from out of the gate. She barely said hello and then asked us if we had given them our identification or signed a waiver yet. We were immediately confused because we were just there to ask some questions and *maybe* get a tour. She seemed annoyed and made us feel like we were stupid even though she didn’t explain the process at all. We weren’t asked any questions until the end. They wanted all of our information and gave us none. We scanned a QR code because that’s what we were told to do and then She started walking us through the facility. She was talking about the equipment and various tiers of membership which have specific names that we were not privy to because, again no info. Most of the time her back was turned so I couldn’t catch all that she was saying over the music. She hurriedly walked us through each section spitting out very specific info that just left me feeling confused. And quite honestly her disposition left a lot to be desired. We got back to her cubicle and she showed us a computer screen with pricing. We had to ask multiple questions about what was covered under each one because it was not clear. My friend asked twice if they had a print out and we were told we could look it up on line. At that point I felt like such a nuisance that I just wanted to leave. I waited at the front for a minute or two to speak with the GM about it but she was on the phone and at that point I just wanted to go. The interaction was so off that I didn’t even know what to say. It’s a shame because it seems like a nice gym that offers a lot of amenities but I can’t get past the way we were treated.
For reference we had just gone to planet fitness to get their information and the people were very friendly, straightforward, and answered any questions we had as we went through the process. There gym is smaller with less bells and whistles but i so appreciate their customer service.

Experience with a day pass
Numerous machines were out of order. Numerous cable attachments were significantly deteriorated. Some cable machines were missing handles to raise and lower the device, which will lead to injury. The place gave me the overall impression that nothing is being repaired or replaced in a timely manner, over the five years they've been in business. And to top it off, even my locker was broken. I couldn't even open the door after my lock was removed. What a dump.

It’s a really nice gym. The amenities are great too. However, the abysmal customer service shows pretty quickly after sign up. Employees don’t know their own systems or equipment well at all.
Edit: It USED to be a nice gym. The facilities have gone down hill so fast. A majority of the machines in the women’s gym are broke. Almost every door in the women’s showers are broke. There is a shower head that is so broke that the water never stops running. The walls are even visibly dirty. It needs a major repair and cleaning. The only really good perk here is the daycare. My son loves the daycare and the employees that work in there are fantastic.

This is a great gym for anyone looking to get into shape, but as a senior citizen I would personally recommend it to seniors looking to improve their health. If at all possible, sign up for a personal trainer to work with you one on one. My trainer Jimmy is very patient and makes me want to improve my health.

I started with them two months ago and so far I’m not happy with the service. I feel like they’ll try their best to sell you whatever to get a lot money out of you. The problems I have with the gym is lack of communication with the staff. I signed up for a trainer and each time I schedule a date they always canceling it and rescheduling it without calling me. Today I was suppose to have a session with my trainer and I went to the gym just to find out their power was out. Once again didn’t receive a notice about it. Lastly please don't make a mistake and get a membership with this company because they will continue to charge your bank account every month even if you stop going. I've been getting my money taken out my account every month when I dont even go. It's hard to get of it.

I love edge, I usually have no complaints, but something needs to be done or said about the amount of people filming content at this location. I understand that some people need to use the space for this, but they have no decency. They will set up in the middle of the gym thus creating less space to actually work out in for others AND I didn’t consent to be in anyone else’s video. This is a privacy concern & extremely off putting. I had to avoid two peoples phones within one session. People are bringing whole ring lights & setting up. There is not enough room for this nor do these people have legal permission from these people who end up in the back of these videos. I won’t return to this location till something gets done about this.

Edge Fitness is a great gym. I have been going here for over three years. HUGE variety of equipment, a theater where you can watch a movie while on an elliptical. They offer child care so you can workout and the little ones can be entertained. So many amenities! My favorite is the wide variety of group classes they offer. The instructors are exceptional and knowledgeable and the classes are fun and effective. The entire staff is very friendly and helpful.

Impossible to cancel. Don't bother. They will continue to charge you even after you cancel. It takes 2+ weeks for corporate to respond to an email, and you can only cancel your membership via email- you also need to pay additional cancellation fees. Also, keep in mind that your membership is set to automatically renew by default unless you explicitly request by emailing them.

Worst place to be. the gym is good but the staff and their pricing structure is a scam. they just mention standard plans like 9.99 , 29.99 but when you actual go to join, they will charge you $49.99 as joining fee and $49.99 as annual fee.. surprisingly when you want to come down from higher subscription to a lower subscription, they have a downgrade fee of $49.99. what absurd concept is this?? Plus they have a cancellation fee also ..
when you walk in.. NOBODY informs you all these.. they just directly rob you.. and when you enquire, they say “everyone else is paying it, why not you”.. totally pathetic staff and their structure

I absolutely love this facility and will miss it tremendously. The problem comes when you try to cancel your membership. I moved from Michigan to Texas June 1st, I notified you guys in writing after you took a payment for June that I wanted my membership canceled for the next month and was essentially told no or to pay a 70 dollar cancellation fee. I know it’s through ABC fitness but you guys need to address this because someone just tried to take money again. I already sent a copy of my lease, I don’t know what the issue is but people. DO NOT SIGN UP FOR A MEMBERSHIP here, especially if they are still dealing with ABC Fitness, it’s not worth the headache and I will be reporting both to the BBB.

It was a pretty good gym with great customer service until just recently. Haven't seen some of the friendly familiar faces up front in the late afternoons & evenings. Lots of new staff & turn over. I like working out late, so knowing the staff makes me feel more comfortable. I'm thinking about going back to an all female gym again or just starting to go to the group classes elsewhere. Corporations should talk to the customers before letting go good employees who are friendly, trustworthy & make the guests feel welcomed & and safe, especially when working out from 11pm-midnight. That tall kid even made sure I made it to my car a couple of times, and the shorter guy who worked with the taller one all the time who might be just working a different shift would always say hello & goodbye to me. My friend said she still sees him when she works out early. The tall kid is in one of the pics I posted of my protein shake. The housekeeper was very nice to. She was just VERY loud while she did her job. Every door was slammed in the locker room. Nothing was ever opened & shut gently so if you were trying to relax in the sauna or had a headache and just trying to get past it so you could get out there to work out... forget it if she was cleaning. She did clean. It was always spotless. I just could never understand why she had to slam bang into everything. Even the vacuum slammed into the bathroom door or the mop machine or whatever it was she used to clean the floors. Plus, she didn't typically knock she just barged in. I had to block the door twice while on the toilet to keep her from walking in. She always had a smile on her face, though & was kind, so it was too hard to say. "Hey , stop slamming into stuff." If she was an unkind person & didn't seem to like her job I may have said something to her. If you did mention it...you may have to have it posted in Spanish. I don't think she spoke fluent English. Thank God for housekeepers though.

The staff is great but I am going back to Lifetime for sure. Nothing but weird people at this gym. Got a guy fake shadow boxing a rope thats next to me while im trying to lift. I have to wait for a chest machine because another person decided to read a BOOK ON IT. Got people doing obnoxious stretches to get attention. I asked the front desk staff to take off the auto renewal of my contract because i had enough. He told me the only way I can take off my auto renewal is waiting till the last month before my contract renews. To me that seems like a scam and I feel like Edge Fitness will screw me over not getting rid of the auto renewal when it's time. Nothing against the front desk worker he was nice but the policies very sketchy

Fantastic experience with the equipment and the facilities. However my experience with their guest policy was not good at all. I was here as a first-time guest and they required a lot of my personal information as well as my ID for them to hold. I ended up forgetting it when I left which was totally my mistake but when I drove back and casually asked why they hold IDs I was told it was to collect my information. I suggested that's unnecessary if they've already taken my information because unlike a situation where ID's are used as collateral, they have no incentive to ensure I return. Edge might as well just take a copy of my ID so guests are free to leave at any time and it's impossible for someone to forget theirs. Again, I should have remembered, but it got me thinking about that rule. The man I spoke with understood my point. But to whoever made that policy, it makes no sense. Even in a best case scenario, they are just using personal info to market the hell out of guests and I disliked the excessive texts I received after. I'm sure the experience was better for others but that was mine. The locker room and sauna areas were pretty nice though.

I love the Edge! The setup of the gym caters to all patrons no matter their fitness level. The theatre room is a favorite! I can elliptical and watch a movie at the same time.
Staff is friendly, establishment is clean. For the most part all the equipment that I’ve used is good. If fitness is your thing give the edge a try. It won’t disappoint.

Half the lockers are broken. machines are never cleaned. some of the workers have an attitude, and you can see five or six of them standing around doing nothing when the other gym members leave dirty wipes all over the place. Gets the job done for the basic membership. massage bed is disgusting. I don’t recommend the 35$ membership not worth the money.

I signed up for this gym and I wish I never did the owner turns its members into gym income lolips the atmosphere is ok they do offer a lot but the idea of having to force my self to go so I can get my money's worth with no kind of control over my membership at all doesn't sit right with me and the only way out other then medical military or moving far away is to buy ur way and that will be more because they wanna change a cancellation and a final months fee that's ridiculous iv read in some cases no matter how you cancel they send you through a hell storm doing so ither way the gym wants to milk you lesson learned on my end don't sign up here it's a trap

my complaint is mainly about the people who go here and not the gym itself. i used to go to planet fitness and wanted to move somewhere that had free weights to challenge myself more. there is a much larger variety of equipment which is very nice but unfortunately the gym members at this location have 0 gym etiquette. barely anyone racks their weights or wipes down their machines after which is very frustrating and will also hover right near you if you are using a machine they need. there are also several benches and a couple machines that are ripped up which i know is due to people misusing them so i don’t blame the staff for that but i wish they could get replaced due to all the bacteria that is harbored in the foam from people sweating into them. the woman’s locker room is also usually not very clean a lot of the time there is pee on the toilet seats and makeup or something smeared on the counters and old soap/shampoo residue in the showers. the staff are pretty nice but i wish they would have more routine checks of wiping down the machines/checking the locker rooms. i believe this is mainly an issue with this location as i go to the warren location frequently and these things aren’t as much of an issue

Not worth the stress. In 2021, I paid my membership in full. I recently recieved notice that they sent me to collections because of nonpayment. Lucky I still had the reciept that stated I paid in full. I talked to the manager ( Brittany), no apology from her. She actually said it was my fault for not canceling my membership . I did cancel my membership, I saved that email too.
Would never recommend. Worst gym ever.

I came here to say how bothered I have been all day by this location. I went online to see prices and it makes you put your personal information to see it. I have been called 5 times today and at this point I don’t even care to callback. I just feel overwhelmed and I haven’t even been to the gym yet. I blocked them and I’ll be looking for another gym but beware if you inquire pricing online they gone blow your phone up. Coming from a sales industry great job at the fast contact but do better documenting of contact and Avire hung up on me. Once again I’ve never even been to this gym but I was bothered so much I had to leave this review. Looked like a nice gym though.

This is the worst company I have ever dealt with, and I wish I never signed up!
I was diagnosed with breast cancer in April and requested that my account be put on a freeze. They continued to charge me anyway, claiming they never got the request. I provided documentation, but they still refuse to do the right thing. I requested a refund, and they requested more documentation. I provided documentation, and now they say they need more.
This is ridiculous, not to mention insensitive!
I am dealing with enough, and I don't need the added stress, nor should my doctors have to take the time to write letters when they are busy trying to save people's lives!
08/02 Update: Emailed them as advised below in response, sent another letter from my doctor stating I am not to engage in any strenuous activity while being treated and they still will not cancel or refund me the months they charged me when the account was supposed to be frozen. Now they respond and say they need another letter. This is unbelievable! My doctor confirmed my diagnosis and stated that I am not allowed to work out in the latest letter and that she does not advise I do for several months, indefinitely. What more do they want?! This is a nightmare!
The manager has ghosted me, though Ms. Brittany Rubio said she would still help me even if I wanted to cancel. She has not followed up, and I have heard nothing more since she asked for another letter from my doctors.

My girlfriend and I have tried to cancel our membership nonstop and they wont let us. We lived in Farmington temporarily, and have since moved over 200 miles away from the nearest Edge Fitness. They have threatened to send us to collections and continue to charge us since we have moved away, AND we provided every piece of documentation needed to show we were settled in and moved into a new residence. They refuse to let us out, their customer service doesn’t answer our calls. If signing up for this gym, read the fine print, and then look again because it doesn’t even matter if you follow everything to a T, they’ll do whatever they please with your account.

This place is a cesspool of legal entrapments and deceitful practices. When I signed up, I told them I was only going to be living here for the summer. They said it would be no problem to cancel the membership when I had to move 2500 miles away. Turns out that canceling this was one the biggest ordeals I’ve had to undergo from a business. So many hoops to jump through. They make you put multiple cards on file (that should have been the first red flag). They require a 30-day written notice of cancellation. They also required proof of a new lease or home purchase or the issuing of a new drivers license. Like come on. I’m just trying to cancel my membership, not apply for a loan. The faculty was not helpful at all when I was trying to cancel and the manager was flippant with me.
Update: I was contacted and they are refunding me the $50 annual fee.

I have been going to this gym for about two years. I love the facility however EDGE kids is my least favorite attribute from this gym. When it is open it is great and the staff are amazing BUT they close without informing parents. There have been many times when you would arrive at the gym and they print out signs on the doors that says Edge kids is closed due to staffing. It is a very inconvenient and frustrating situation especially when you pay for a service.
There has also been times when I would show up and no one is there resulting in the staff saying they were unaware no one was in there and it is now 4:45 PM.
I was told there is only one supervisor for both shifts but they are not available in the afternoons. I understand scheduling happens, however an email and some professionalism would be great especially when it inconveniences paying members. I ended up switching to Westland because the staff stated they were better staffed at that location.
