The MAAC Sports & Fitness is an Family Friendly Fitness center and basketball facility located in Clio, Michigan. At The MAAC we couple professional equipment and security with our expert staff to create a one-of-a-kind environment.
All of our members receive 24/7 access to our first-class fitness center as well as access to our basketball facility during staff hours.
The MAAC's staff is here Monday-Thursday 8:30am-8pm Fridays 8:30-7p, Saturdays 10a-3pm. We don't have staff on major holidays.

I have been a member here for over 2 years paying for 3 monthly memberships. On multiple occasions my wife and I have brought our son with us when we work out. It was never an issue, staff was polite and accommodating. This evening I brought my son with me just as I had done the night before! Tonight was different, when a newer front counter worker approached me saying she was on the phone with her manager and we needed to leave. Long story short I was told to leave and my membership was canceled without out any prior incidents or warning. Requesting a call from the owner.
Reply back- If you are going to call me a lair please provide proof and confirmation that there was ever a conversation, phone call, or email correspondence.
Update
On the evening of September 6th 2024 24 hrs after review was written, The manager Aimee had the Genesee County sheriffs Department sent to my house. Google reviews, especially the one I have left! Are legal! Filing a false police report, not so much. Recommendation if youβre gonna join a gym this is not the one.

I currently have a membership here. This gym is awful for the price and what it has to offer. Machines are always broken and covered in orange duck tape. Itβs embarrassing because the owners have the money to fix things and get new machines but they donβt care about their members just themselves. Owners are stuck up and they lock you in for a year when you sign up. Other gyms are less than this and have way more to offer and friendly staff. You canβt ever use the basketball courts because they always have practices going. Only nice staff member is Aimee. Save yourself time and money and find another gym :)

I had originally got a membership at this gym so I would be able to use the basketball courts and workout equipment at any time of day, quickly learned that the courts are closed at night due to no staff being around and even when the courts are open majority of the time they're being used and no members can use them.
If that wasn't bad enough multiple times workout machines have been broken and in a completely unusable state, on top of all that staff are quite rude and unwilling to help.
$40 a month for a membership and little to no access to basketball courts is an outrageous price, the staff will tell you that it's cheap for a gym membership but the YMCA offers unlimited 24/7 access to basketball courts, pools, and more for $31 monthly. Planet fitness is even cheaper and doesn't have staff problems.
I've also had issues with being double charged for my membership fee and the manager refusing to issue me a refund despite the double charge being completely their fault, will definitely never be going to this gym again as there are MUCH MUCH better options for cheaper.
On an additional note the hip abduction machine was broken for quite a while but even after being fixed the machine still felt unsafe to use, after being fixed one of the bars on it had caught my ankle and left a nasty bruise for quite a while. You can tell a majority of the machines are not cared for, they're covered in duct tape and parts rattle or come loose while using them, I felt like I could be seriously injured If i used heavy weights with them.
In response to the owners response, this is more proof that the staff and even owner are extremely rude to their customers.

I went into this gym with high expectations however they were crushed. First few seconds of me entering the gym I was given a dirty look from the staff and I felt as if I was not welcomed there. The basketball court atmosphere was very toxic as I was disrespected by the occupants it felt as if I was playing street ball. The equipment was sub par with the quality of the treadmill being questionable and should be inspected for safety. I feel like the gym has good intentions and it could start becoming a better gym and I had hopes and aspirations for this gym, but as it stands now planet fitness is the better gym.

Want to add that the staff here is phenomenal. They go the extra mile to keep the facilities in excellent condition.
Excellent facilities. With 3 squat racks, it is more well equipped than any other gym in the area which is excellent.
Update: I forgot to update my review when they had the remodel a few years ago. they got a Smith machine!

If youβre using this place for the basketball courts, then youβll like it. If youβre using it for the gym youβll be disappointed. Equipment is broken constantly and takes forever for it to get fixed, if it gets fixed at all. Internet is always iffy so if you use streaming for music it will most likely cut in and out. They charge members a $20 fee once a year in addition to your monthly charge for βgym improvementβ but we have yet to see ANY new machines or equipment and weβve been here for two years. There have been machines taken out but zero new machine. They have turf on the gym floor. It has wrinkles in it everywhere so if youβre someone who does floor work, it seems like a minor thing, but it really does get in the way. The manager used to sit at the front and was easily available for questions. Now he sits in the back office with the door closed half the time and is completely unapproachable. They have these golf carts out front and they have been focusing 90% of their time on that and bare minimum on the gym. Itβs extremely disappointing and I really would not recommend this for a gym to anyone. Maybe if the membership were significantly cheaper then it would be something nice to just pop into but for what you pay there are other locally owned gyms that are more worth your money. (Also theyβre now selling whatever the heck these things are too. Like I said, this is where all their focus goes because it is most definitely not the gym that members pay a pretty good price for. I find that highly disrespectful to the members.)
Edit: There used to be an ab machine where this is now located INSIDE the gym area. Again, the disrespect this shows for paying gym members is so blatant.

Nearly impossible to cancel your membership. Unfortunately I do work late shifts and canβt make it back in time for a walk-in visit. Iβm not much off a βBad Reviewβ guy buts itβs been 6 months (if not more) of continuous payments made without even being there. Iβve emailed and called COUNTLESS times with no answers in return.

So, anyway, I had been a member for half a year... give or take. A few days ago I had my membership terminated because of a VERY VERY funny... but kind of immature... prank involving some fake vomit left on the front desk. Fair is fair. I DID technically break the terms of service policy. I got the print off of my termination notice framed because of how unbelievably funny it all was.
That being said. This is still a great gym and I highly recommend it. I also apologize to the members or staff who did not appreciate the joke. Great security system, by the way. ;) Wish you the best in future endeavors

Brought in my pregnant girlfriend so she didnβt have to sit in the car with these temperatures & all she did was stand there with me & are told I have to pay 50$ before coming back! Thatβs ridiculous. Staffing is very bad. NEEDS new staff with a Better attitude. Save your extra money and go to planet fitness!!!

Went to cancel my membership because I got a job up north, they said they can put a freeze on my account until I came back but payment went out on my account anyway. I am trying to halt these payments. This is ridiculous. If you are a State employee don't go to this gym, you have a hard time canceling. I want my money back. I am going to the bank and to my attorney.....ridiculous!

Facility was fine but when i got a new debit card in the mail and missed a payment they sent me to collections without any warning and then it was jumping through hoops to cancel my membership. Then they tried billing me again 6 months later. It was the most complicated gym to cancel a membership and a huge pain to do it.

It's the only gym around for a ways but it has ups and downs, there recently has been a lot of issues with water leaks on the basketball courts and the atmosphere doesn't seem the greatest. I've met a few nice people there and will continue to visit often but prefer the ymca in saginaw even tho it is a farther trip.

Nicely renovated last winter. More new equipment since. Everything is clean and appears to be well maintained. 24/7 access with coded key fobs is nice. The one month free deal is good too because you just have to pay the access fee when you sign up and then no billing at all until the next month. Not like some that give you the "free month" at the end or just rolled into the membership.

I thought this place was a fun place to let my child attend on Friday nights but apparently its not... tonight I got a call from my child and multiple of her friends saying how rude the staff was, which when I got there I seen it with my own eyes... the lady that was working tonight had her son there who was making racial slurs towards a girl when she asked for a slushie... I confronted her about it and she pretty much acted like it was no big deal... they tell kids if bullying occurs to always go to them and tell... well when done so, they pretty much roll their eyes and ignore them.. I'm highly disgusted in the adult atmosphere they have working on a Friday night... I was also told by multiple kids that an adult employee judges girls by making comments about their "rack".. my child and friends will NEVER step foot back in this place... highly highly dissapointed that I ever let her go there to begin with...

Staff is really rude. Seen one of the men with a bunch of men gym members going through sign in pictures of women and rating how attractive they were, even laughing at some. It's impossible to get out of a contract there. Anytime fitness and Snap are by far better.
