I have been here for PT (see my review on βThe Sports Club Physical Therapy of West Bloomfieldβ), and for some tennis classes on the weeks of 7/7/25-7/10/25 & 7/28/25-7/31/25. I liked the tennis classes, and itβs also closer to me than itβs competitor[s].

Facility is in excellent condition. Tennis courts are well lit. Staff is accomodating and very friendly. They truly want to make your experience exceptional.
The tennis pros are top notch too. My game has improved significantly through the many clinics provided and the pro I work with, Ed Nagle.

So I am not from Michigan and I was staying in town for a few days. I went to this club to play a clinic/organized practice session. When I registered for the session, there was no information on what the level and group look like. After arriving, I realized, that the session is for 55+ ladies so I decided since I drove 30 min, let me use this time to practice my serve.
The thing is to serve you need a lot of balls. It's not like rallies or matches that you can get away with 3 balls. So I asked the front desk "do you have ball baskets I can borrow?". The front desk and the tennis coordinator were like "no we have this basket [that has like 15 balls] to use. Whatever balls you can find around the court, feel free to use." The balls were just so bad and flat/used. I wa OK with this and said I can use this no problem. I went to the court and looked for balls. There were bigger baskets that coaches use for practice sessions/lessons, etc. and well, all of them are locked, which is a normal thing and I understand that they want to lock it. I went to the front desk and I say hey can you please let me use one of these baskets? I'm just serving it doesn't affect the ball getting flat or something. First they say no we cannot because they are for the coaches and I'm like OK to myself. I go behind the courts to find more balls (like suggested) and I see one that one basket is NOT locked.
I'm gonna go use that basket that is unlocked because if they wanted to lock it, they would've locked it. I start hitting the balls so slowly on my servers warming up so it doesn't affect the ball.
Suddenly one of the coaches from the other side of the arena comes running so fast to me. He so concerned and rattled. He comes and said you cannot use that basket and I'm like "I'm not doing anything. I'm just practicing serve very very slowly and I'm focusing on my technique and he's like no no no no no" [almost shouting] like he is distressed and I'm like "I'll put it back. Don't worry about it" and he's like "I'm not worried about it" and he calls someone else. It felt like they are ganging up on me. I was like "can I take like 20 balls here to serve he was like yes" He yanked the basked from me and took it to behind the court.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Morale of the story: This is why people are moving to Pickleball than Tennis. All the coaches have created such a high barrier to entry, gatekeeping tennis, and expect people to pay hundreds of dollars to pay for lessons so they can play. Tennis shouldn't be like this. I will probably never go to this club. I talked to the manager for 20 minutes and I mentioned this because I CARE ABOUT TENNIS AND TENNIS COMMUNITY. I probably can buy all the tennis baskets in that club (not a brag; I am grateful for my privilege)

We had an incredible experience with Ryan and his team at the sports club WB. We had to move our charity pickleball tournament inside due to weather and they want above and beyond to accommodate all of our needs. They truly helped make our event a great success. The facility and staff were excellent

Today, I visited this club for the first time. The front desk person was very friendly. I went to the whirlpool, steam room, and suana. The locker room and area shower appeared clean and uncluttered. Bring your own lock, and towels are provided. The rooms were not crowded (9ish on weekdays). The members were friendly and easy to strike up a conversation with. Next I will visit the rest of the club facilities.

As a long-time member of the WB community, I have tried various fitness centers, but none have matched the level of quality and service provided by The Sports Club. The professionalism and friendliness of the staff have made my workouts enjoyable and the availability of modern equipment ensures that I can always find what I need. The club offers tennis, pickle ball, gymnastics, and yoga just to name a few.
Furthermore, the men's locker room facilities are truly impressive. The steam room and jacuzzi provide a relaxing post-workout experience, and the recently renovated sauna adds an extra touch of luxury.
Lastly, the extended hours of operation are greatly appreciated. As someone with a busy schedule, being able to access the gym late in the evening allows me to maintain a consistent fitness routine without any inconvenience.

The customer service is disappointingly poor and inflexible. Iβm interested in joining the pickleball membership, and as a first-timer, I asked if I could try it during todayβs open play before deciding. Unfortunately, I was firmly rejected and told I need to be brought in by a member. I donβt understand β is this too much to ask? Also, what about the free 3-day trial?

First, it is not easy to know where to go in. And once you pick a door, it is a maze inside. Give yourself time the first time you go. Unless you are there for tennis (south side) you may need to ask someone. The sidelines are narrow in some fields, and they will share them shortening your field. $$ over comfort or practical play.

Very disappointed with the club. The kids classes are very expensive and they do not allow make ups. So if your kid is sick one week or 2 youβre out of luck. They also do not want to pay for someone to be by the other entrance the the tennis and gymnastics so everyone gets stuck scrambling to find a spot on the west side entrance when there are tons of spots on the other side and much easier access to the tennis, gymnastics, soccer and martial arts. Not to mention youβre paying tons of money with no updates throughout the years and barely cleaned and unsanitary.

Good set of activities, but beware.. it's an uphill task to reschedule classes, especially for Gymnastics. Their option for make-up lessons is an utter joke.
Also, their entire focus is more on competitive coaching.
other cons - slow progress, almost no feedback on child's performance other than the end of the season sheet with some ratings by a student coach.

They could be a careless club sometimes. They announced the pickleball none- member dropin time and they have just changed it without any notice for none members! Our group drove from different places to play and all they can say we are sorry! Ok, we wanna become members! We can sign up and pay NOW! We can pay for reservations! Anything! Just lets not waste 2 hours of our time, no resolution! The front desk lady is left without any authority or tools to resolve this very bad situation! Very annoying! What a waste of time!

The pandemic has caused this business to do some shady things for money. If you signed a contract with them and it expired one month after they had to close down due to COVID, you will get a bill from them a year and half later, threatening to send you to collections if you don't pay it immediately. Even if you faithfully paid your dues to them for nearly 30 years as a member.

Great club. Our family have been members for over fifteen years. Three of our children learned to swim there. All five of us have taken and some of us still take martial arts with Mr. T. It is an excellent program. Mr. T runs a wonderful program for children and adults. We have worked with several of the trainers and they are all good. My wife and I lost a great deal of weight and got very strong. One of my sons took tennis lessons. My wife goes to Yoga three days a week and loves it. I weight lift four days a week. The new equipment is excellent. The staff are friendly and helpful. The regular members are a nice group of people. Even the new design of the parking lot helps out. The new children's center is good as well. No complaints at all.

The club was easy to find and has a nice parking structure which I am sure gets full with events. I was visiting this club for a tennis event which iwas watching and not playing. The sitting arrangement was not lot which was okay since you had to be standing to see all across. There was a glass shield between the courts and you which made it little less fresh to watch.

I was a member many years ago, as well as recent member. I sustained a back injury that put me in physical therapy for 3 months. My doctor suggested I stay off the club's running track because it has a curve, which aggravated my back. My doctor also recommended swimming. I placed many calls to the Sports Club, letters requesting my membership be terminated, with only two months left on my contract. My doctor even wrote a letter supporting my injury. The owner of the Sport's Club never returned my calls, not responded to my emails. I find this very offensive. The Sports Club obviously needs my money, all $155.00 remaining on my contract. Since the injury occurred in December 2017, I have been paying and have not been there since. All the people I know that have memberships there, have already left or are leaving when contract is up. The Sports Club breached all of our contracts but taking out the pool, but they still want their money from their members. Ignored calls, letters and emails is unacceptable. Take your business elsewhere, the owner is unethical and rude! There are better gyms out there. Don't be fooled by their appearances of wanting to resolve and "help" you. A friend of mine also canceled her membership five months ago and they still charge her credit card, which they are not authorized to do. Unacceptable!

Just visited the club after a long summer vacation and all I can say is WOW. The interior has been redesigned, there's a new, huge indoor soccer field, and per the signs, there is all new, high-tech workout equipment coming soon! These changes are a long time coming and have already boosted the quality of the business beyond that of the other local options. If this isn't evidence of investment in the members, I don't know what is. On top of that, the staff is even friendlier than ever. I've been a member of the Sports Club for over 10 years and I certainly wouldn't go anywhere else.

Was a member and ended my membership for reasons unrelated to the club. Around that time, I went to bat for Sports Club for a friend who wanted to quit. They spoke to her and promised changes, which not only didn't happen, but the opposite happened.
They failed to cancel her membership (which I know she did because we talked about it at the time). She didn't notice it right away. Not only did they refuse a reasonable remedy, they are charging her for one more month. This is a long time member who utilized the club for activities, camp and fitness. She hadn't used the club since she sent her cancellation.
I was telling my husband that I sent an email to the person at the club I asked to speak to her originally, and they didn't even have the courtesy to respond. He reminded me we had the EXACT same problem. We cancelled our membership and they didn't put it in the system. I don't remember the details, but I believe they were forced to come to an agreement when he provided documentation that it was, in fact, sent.
Truthfully, I don't believe this is malicious, I believe it is incompetence, which is worse. It's frustrating because I like the Sports Clubs for activities, but if you can't trust a company, you can't do business with them.

This place does not make any exceptions, charges way too much for its programs and is very cheap with their policies. By the way, why do you charge so much for tennis? If a lesson is $45 and there are 8 kids in a lesson with 1 coach earning lets say $50 for the lesson, $310 are left over. There are certainly way too many lessons per day and too few administrators to have a need for charging that much! I would really like to know why this place charges such a high amount for lessons! Other clubs charge half as much and provide the same quality if not better lessons. Coaches are good and skilled, but administrators and other employees are cheap and do not accommodate.

The facilities are not bad, but there are people in the facilities... and they are terrible. The front desk staff was nice enough, but the person who ran the USTA matches was terrible.
Worse yet, a LOT of players from this club cheat. Everybody knows it. All of the other teams talk about how Sports Club West Bloomfield cheats at tennis. Bad line calls. Arguments. Poor sportsmanship. And more.
There is so much, it has to be systematic. Their attitude is "forget sportsmanship, do whatever you can to win". If you play there, don't expect good line calls. Or any sense of sportsmanship and fairness. Expect them to cheat. They will.
If you like cheating, if you like poor sportsmanship, then this is the club for you! If you have any sense of moral decency, then avoid this club like the plague.

Sorry you had a bad experience with some of our members Bob, in the future please be sure to bring any issues up with the Head Life Guard who is always on the deck. We take safety very seriously here. Your life guard comment is simply untrue. ALL of our guards that are currently scheduled are certified by the Red Cross and have participated in our mandatory safety meetings and in-services. It is the beginning of the season and we have a few waiting to get re-certified as theirs have expired, but they have not and will not work, except checking people in, until they have completed their re-certification classes.
