After my post meniscus surgery my surgeon said β€œYou might end up with a 130% knee flexion for lifetime since you were contracted at 80%.”When I started 1:1 coaching classes with Chris, the owner, my flexion was 130% and now is almost 150%. After the highly specialized and meticulous workouts specifically made for my recovery and goals, Chris always makes sure to work on my flexion with his diverse tools and techniques. He even showed me flexion techniques that no PT has shown nor told me before 😳. Chris is not only Jesus Chris(t) he is also one of the best, exceptionally knowledgeable, passionate about helping people achieve their goals and recover from injuries, and competent coaches not just for CrossFit, and post injuries, but for overall fitness. Even though I have done CrossFit before, I am learning so much from him about safety, proper form even when fatigued, about scaling appropriately, how to pace yourself so you don’t gas out, and how to breathe properly. Not only Chris teaches you how to train safely and injury free for lifetime, but also how to train safely and effectively on your own and in groups. My strength and endurance has increased tremendously and he has returned my confidence in training like an athlete that I was. Chris pushes your limits mentally and physically, challenging you to grow but at the same time he will not let you compromise form and safety while doing so. When we started my surgical leg was thinner than the other one, and now my leg is becoming bigger and bigger. I am eternally grateful and endowed to Chris for giving my life and wings back. Every day I am becoming a healthier, a stronger, a hotter, a firmer and a better version of myself because I stand on the shoulders of GIANTS!!! That is exactly what WSC people are the kindest, friendliest, loving, most supportive, and most helpful BEASTS you will ever meet πŸ₯‡πŸ‘‘πŸ¦ΈπŸ»β€β™‚οΈπŸ’ŽπŸ˜‡β€οΈβ€πŸ”₯πŸ™

BEST coaching I've ever had at a drop in. Large facility, plenty of equipment and friendly people. Really good quality coaching and thoughtful programming. I'm an L2 coach, and the fact that I can see the quality from list a drop in is a real testament. If you're local, absolutely jump in here.

Enjoyed my time dropping in here while on a quick visit from out of town. I’d highly recommend this gym to anyone in the area in search of one, or anyone looking for a place to drop-in. Huge, clean space with a very nice entryway and lobby. Bathrooms are kept tidy and the showers are an added bonus. Coach Cyril created a fun and welcoming environment, while also giving feedback to each athlete.

Nice floor plan with maximized space. The one downside is the bathroom, specifically the men’s. There’s only one stall, no urinals, but two or three showers.

Dropped in while traveling. I wasn’t able to get signed up online, but they told me to just show up. They got me registered, paid, and gave a quick overview of where things were before class started. Despite it being a lot of people, the class instructors easily managed logistics, communicated clearly, and gave each person individual attention. I’m a CrossFit instructor and know from experience that running things this effectively and efficiently is difficult. Members also introduced themselves and made me feel welcome even though I was only here for the day. It was a great experience and I’ll drop in again if I’m in the area!

We were in town for the holiday and wanted a place to do some deadlifts, bench, squats, and overhead press. We tried some other gyms first that were closer to where we were staying, but they were either class only or didn’t have bars (only smith machines). We called before going in, the front desk staff was very helpful, gave us a tour once we arrived, and let us do our thing. We saw a class going on too but there is plenty of room in the back and an Olympic lift space so you aren’t required to do the class. 10/10.

Big facility and welcoming coaches. They even let me try one class before committing to a membership option.

They have showers and clean towels ready for people who want to go to work after the workout.

The open-gym area is also spacious and out of the way of regular classes.

I visit this gym every time I return to Michigan. One of nicest facilities I’ve ever been to and I travel to new gyms constantly. Friendly, knowledgeable staff and inviting members. If I ever move back to Michigan, this gym would be a reason why.

Upon receiving a bill larger than anticipated, I was annoyed.

Wolverine proved immediately they are honest and care about their customers. It was clear that it was a simple miscommunication. They didn't have to listen to me and could have enforced the contract that I signed. I probably would have still been open to coming back to the gym - so they might not even have risked losing me as a customer

Instead, Wolverine demonstrated who they really are: They are not in it to make a quick buck. They are hoping to build relationships with their clients and their thoughtful approach to solving a customer service issue made that very clear.

On top of being a business run by people with character, they are, to me (only one month in), very good at building a community of people who love coming into their gym to be challenged and to be around each other.

Worth the $$

A truly fantastic CrossFit gym. Coaches are knowledgeable and helpful, making sure you stay motivated and safe during workouts. The workouts are also not just constant, random cross training, as some CrossFit naysayers might think, but extremely well designed plans, working towards β€œslow, controlled gains over time.” I’ve been a member for many years and have never been a better athlete than when I’ve consistently gone to this gym. I recently joined Wolverine and it has been fantastic! I was looking for something that was community orientated and accessible. I was intimidated by CrossFit but liked the idea of it and thought it might be a good fit but I am just an average person not an athlete so wasn’t sure. I walked in and they had a great on ramp for how to join and get involved; they made it easy for newbie to join and feel comfortable. The coaches are relatable, helpful, and patient. It has been a gift! If your thinking about it… do it!

Wolverine is a large gym. They have weightlifting, Crossfit classes, HIIT and open gym. The coaches are great and know my abilities and what I need to work on/am working on. They listen to my suggestions. There’s even a suggestion box at the front counter. I’ve made some friends since I’ve gone here and my squats have improved. They have a huge rig, many echo bikes (Yuck), rowers, ropes, jump ropes, all the weights and barbells, a ski erg, a GHD, several bathrooms, mats, kettle bells, wall balls and sleds. I would love to see more ski ergs and GHDs though. πŸ˜‰ Drop in and try it out!

Chris Arcure, the owner, has changed my life. He is an awesome human being and coach: extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and kind. This is a gym that anyone can walk into and feel comfortable. The comunity is amazing , the equipment is top notch, the facility is always clean, and the coaches truly care about you, your safety, and your fitness. Wolverine Strength and Conditionning has become such a big part of my everyday life. It is the best gym in Ann Arbor, and probably in all Michigan.

My 12 yo daughter started at this gym and has made amazing progress. The last gym she trained at was terrible. In less then five months the coaches cleaned her form up and she looks 10 times better. Coach Hannah is an amazing weightlifting coach and it’s very obvious she knows how to coach a very technical sport. We will be life long members

This gym completely changed my life. I was a member/coach for 4 years. I learned so much from the community and the amazing coaches!!! The facility is huge and very clean. However, the owner Chris is the least pleasant person I have ever dealt with. He treated people around him horribly and pushed away lots of good coaches. I spent years trying to build a good relationship with him but failed. If you are new to CrossFit and want the best coaching, this is the place to be. Please be sure to avoid the owner so you get a pleasant experience.

My husband and I have been working out at Wolverine for nearly 5 years, and now our 6-year-old daughter is really enjoying the Kids Krush classes, too. Coach Mike O'Brien and his team saw me through my second pregnancy (working out, safely, up until my due date) and have helped me gain strength, endurance, and confidence in my athletic abilities. The camaraderie at this gym is amazing, and I always look forward to going. Because the coaches help each member tailor workouts to suit his or her needs, Wolverine is a great fit for almost everyone, from people rehabbing from injuries, to those who haven't set foot in a gym in 20 years, to lifelong competitive athletes. Hats off to the talented and diligent staff who have created this supportive, family-friendly environment for fitness!

WSC is a great gym. It is a genuine, welcoming community consisting of people of all ages and fitness levels. CrossFit can be intimidating but the coaching staff at Wolverine excels at educating and motivating. All workouts can be "scaled" to each athlete's fitness level and the coaches will gladly help you find the right movement for your ability. After I had been a member of Wolverine for about a year my wife joined and she also loves it. I had never felt attached to a gym before but I'm a big fan of WSC and glad to be a member.

Wolverine Strength and Conditioning is an excellent gym. I've been a member at multiple different Crossfit gyms and this gym is by far the best. This is not to bash the other gyms I've attended, Wolverine Strength and Conditioning is just THAT good! The coaching staff is extremely knowledgeable, dedicated and deliberate. The dual focus on longevity/safety and maintaining high intensity during a workout is something I really appreciate about WSC and have not experienced elsewhere. Working out here is continually one of the best parts of the day and I couldn't recommend it enough!

I became a member of Wolverine Strength and Conditioning (WSC) in 2014, as I was recovering from an episode of Cancer. I am in my 60’s and have been a member of different gyms my whole adult life. The staff and facility at WSC are phenomenal. The workout area, the bathrooms and showers are clean and comfortable to use. The atmosphere is one of cooperation and the competition is with yourself, as we are all encouraged to do our personal best. I was introduced to other members and have made many friends since then. The coaches are β€œhands on” attentive and correct poor form. Their coaching has helped me to improve my form and function without injury. The proof is in the pudding, I followed the guidance of the coaches and I am faster and stronger because of it. About 3 years after starting at WSC I was approached by one of the coaches and trained to compete in a weightlifting competition. I was privileged to compete in the Arnold in Columbus. Not only am I healthier and stronger for working out at WSC, I enjoy my workouts with the other members and value the instruction by the knowledgeable coaches. Thanks WSC and Staff.

The coaches and staff are really invested in the well being of the members. The instruction is both fun and on point.
The environment is very welcoming, with people at all sorts of stages along their life and fitness journey working out together. They offer a ton of class times and they have a lot of equipment and have still been investing in the facility and adding more.

My husband and I joined WSC about a year ago after moving to Ann Arbor. Moving is hard--finding a new routine, new friends, etc. The members and coaching staff at WSC made us feel welcome and encouraged from the first day, and that has never changed. The coaching staff is excellent--not only are they knowledgeable, but they listen to and respect their athletes. The coaching staff have also helped me staff active, and most importantly safe, throughout my first pregnancy. Whether you already live in Ann Arbor, are moving to the area, or just stopping by for a visit, I highly recommend checking out WSC.

I go to WS&C about 5-6 days/week. I love their diversity of class times. I can always find one that fits with my schedule. The staff is extremely friendly and makes and effort to note your process and help you improve. Whenever you are trying to develop a skill or perfect a movement they are great motivators and showing you the movements and adjusting you form.

But, definitely my favorite part of this gym is the community atmosphere they strive to develop. Though the coaches are always encouraging, its great to see that the members are just as encouraging to one another throughout the workout.

I have been going to Wolverine for 3 years now, and I am so happy I chose this gym! They place a huge emphasis on safety and correct form, avoiding injury, and functional fitness for all levels. The coaches are extremely knowledgeable and encouraging and they always ensure a small ratio of athletes to coaches, so you can always expect to get individualized attention and coaching throughout the WOD. The space is huge and extremely clean, and everyone is unbelievably welcoming and encouraging. I have made many friendships through this wonderful community. Love this gym!

Love that the gym is open all day with a variety of different class times to choose from (and option for open gym) and that classes start on time!! The members are also great - everyone is friendly and encouraging, no matter if you are new or a regular.

I began my fitness journey 3 months ago. My baseline level of fitness was extremely low. The encouraging atmosphere, commitment to teaching from the coaching staff, and my personal results kept me coming.
If you have been wanting to try CrossFit or strength training but are afraid to start because you think you aren't fit enough, or maybe you're scared that others will make you feel intimidated, please give Wolverine Strength and Conditioning a try. Every class is structured in such a way that the more complex movements are broken down and taught step by step so you really don't need to come with any previous knowledge of how to lift. I think you'll find that they have all the supports in place to help you reach your goals, whether you're an experienced athlete or a newbie taking your first step toward fitness. If you're motivated there is no better place to challenge yourself and get the results you want than Wolverine Strength and Conditioning.

I am a 64 year old baby boomer and was looking for a way to fight off old age but was very afraid that a crossfit gym would be too extreme or too intense for me but thought I would give it a try. After one week I was hooked and have now been going 5 days a week for the padt 9 months. The way this gym handles an incredible variety of people in a group setting (young, old, male, female, thick, thin, muscled, beginners, etc) was truly amazing to me. In general everybody willing to help out the β€œnewbies”! Coaching staff is excellent as well. I highly recommend this gym!

I’ve been CrossFitting for 10yrs now, the last 3 at WSC. Any given day at WSC there’s all shapes & sizes, all levels of fitness. WSC coaches help modify workouts as needed, and continuously give guidance and support to increase confidence, keep the gains coming, and prevent injury. The WSC community supports & cheers on those small daily improvements that will get results. (Every. Single. My family and I have been working out at wolverine since they first opened their doors for a thousand reasons, but the most important one is the staff. The community that Mike and the entire coaching staff create is an honor to be apart of. Whether you’re shooting to compete in some obscure fitness contest or just trying to look good at the beach, you’ll find the appropriate attitude and experience at Wolverine. Me? I’m lazy. I suck at self motivation. That’s why I love the cross fit classes...I’m encouraged and motivated by everyone in there regardless of their (or my) skill level.
It’s a welcoming space. The coaches don’t care if you’re training for the Olympics...they’re just excited to help get you where you wanna go. I can’t think of a better environment for me (and the rest of my brood) than that.

This is a CrossFit gym. As a 64 year old, ex military, life-long athlete who wants to be able to play with my great-grandchildren when I am 90, I can tell you unequivocally that CrossFit is the best fitness program for all ages, gender and fitness level ever! And this CrossFit gym/program is undoubtedly one of the best you can find anywhere. I was so impressed when I walked in a year ago that I paid up front for a whole year and am soon to renew my membership for another.

At Wolverine the coaches and fellow athletes (you will feel like an athlete here) will make you feel at home and will support you no matter your age, gender or fitness level. The workouts are all scalable so that everyone is challenged, from the 64-year olds (me) and a 72 year old couple (whom I admire greatly) to the young women and men who are lifting hundreds of pounds. You compete against yourself and personal records are cheered (whether it is a 50-pound front squat or 250-pounds).

At Wolverine you will find a great diversity of age, gender and physical ability but all have one thing in common, a desire to work together to be physically fit.

I can’t recommend Wolverine Strength and Conditioning enough.

Moving to a new city can be challenging. Finding a community that is welcoming, supportive and fun is rare. But WSC has all of those components. One will for sure leave the gym SMILING afterwards.
Here are the three reason why I’d personally recommend this gym:

2. Very clean and spacious.
3. Great equipments.

If you’re looking for a top notch gym full of great people, this is the place to be. I have been working out here for 4 years now and I have learned so much - so much about being an athlete, about mental toughness, and about myself.

Want to shed some pounds? You can do it here. Want to learn how to lift weights? You can do it here. Want to learn how to be a better person? Oh yeah, you can do that here too. And you’re going to make friends. There’s just no way you won’t meet someone - they have somehow found a way to only let nice people in the door.

And you’re going to learn the right way to lift. The SAFE way to lift. The place is impeccably clean, always always always well coached, and all around a great environment. You’ll be hard pressed to find a better community.

I've been doing CrossFit for years, and I've been to boxes across the country. What makes for a good gym, IMO, is coaching, community, and facilities -- in that order. Wolverine has the best coaching I've experienced, a great community, and fantastic facilities. CF has exploded so much, and so fast, that the average quality of coaching has decreased significantly. Supply can't keep up with demand. But Wolverine keeps finding and training great coaches. It's clean. You won't get heat stroke or frostbite. They get my highest recommendation.

WSC has been a second family for me since I started going there! All the coaches truly care about the members and our well-being. I broke my hand not too long after I started at WSC so the coaches worked with me to make sure all the movements I did were modified so I could keep working out through the recovery. The other members are amazing too. The support and inclusive atmosphere make coming to class so much fun. I’ve been some great friends in the year I’ve been there. I couldn’t imagine a better gym!

I've been a member since May 2016; this is a world class CrossFit gym. All of the coaches are top notch. The coaching style emphasizes continuous improvement for every member no matter their athletic ability. The coaches participate in educational training to improve their own instructional ability and to stay updated on advancements in athletic and CrossFit training. There is a strong sense of community and the coaches often reach out directly to members for an added level of accountability.

The facility is exceptionally well maintained. It's equipped with top-of-the-line gear all the way from the pull-up rig to the barbells to the jump ropes. There is a fully dedicated studio for those interested in Olympic lifting.

I can’t say enough good things about this gym. I have been at Wolverine for 3+ years, and joining this community is hands down the best thing I did for myself when I moved to Ann Arbor. It’s super clean, has good quality equipment, and most importantly the coaching is top notch. This is a great gym for anyone. Regardless of your background or current fitness level, you will have fun, learn, and be challenged here!

I first started coming to this gym two years ago and it has completely changed my life and how I challenge myself physically and mentally every single day. The coaches are top notch, the community is inviting, and the gym is always kept clean. When I leave Michigan and search for a new gym, Wolverine Strength and Conditioning will be the standard I judge all other gyms against.

I've been a member with Wolverine Strength and Conditioning for over three years now. Coming in, I had no prior experience of weight lifting and had gone through several different gyms be it Lifetime, Planet Fitness, LA Fitness - and nothing compares to my experience at WSC. The amount of money you spend on personal fitness at any of those gyms just doesn't compare to the knowledge, results, and skills you gain at WSC.

The first difference right off the bat are the coaches and extremely friendly staff; they care about your health and body (you don't just jump into any work out, they guide you with one-on-one training providing you with the fundamentals, they make sure that you are in the correct positions before any lift and familiarize you with how classes are ran), they are involved in your day to day workouts, give you the right guidance on your diet, and go out of the way to make sure that you follow a regular plan/are consistent.

Regarding, the training and workouts - I really enjoy not having to plan my workouts in advance but still having access to see what the coaches have planned for that day (via the mobile app) and track/record my results and view progress. Each day has a new challenge, and is different/not purely based just on strength and lifting, most of the workouts combine cardio (rowing machine, assault bike, running, sled-push workouts) with circuit training (box jumps, wall balls, push-ups, pull-ups, situps, etc.), barbell lifting (cleans, jerks, push-press, overhead/back squats, dead-lifts, etc.). The other thing is, the class timings are extremely flexible and run pretty much throughout the day, so you don't have to worry about coming in at a particular time/coordinating with work and other day to day responsibilities. If you can't make it to a class, you can still come in and do the work out on your own and use the gym like any other regular gym - which is always nice as well.

I highly suggest that you come try it out or speak to one of the coaches! There's nothing to lose, and a lot to gain!

I have had the pleasure to train all over the world, yet the best place was in my backyard all along. Ann Arbor holds Wolverine Strength and Conditioning...the cleanest, friendliest, best staffed gym I have ever been to. Immediately when you walk in there is no funky CrossFit box smell, that’s because they clean continuously. You are met with a warm smile, a friendly hello, and may be greeted by the red headed ball of smiles himself MOB. What amazes me most about this gym the most isn’t the fact that there facility is so clean, open, and tidy..it’s the fact they are well staffed with coaches that bring unparalleled passion to teaching. Most gyms simply write the WOD on the white board and say β€œ good luck”, but the WSC staff take their time to warm-up, train, teach, critique, improve and push their athletes. It is truly unlike any gym I have ever been apart of. Whether you are a Crossfit competitor, or a slow poke like myself, there is something for everyone. And if you want to just Olympic Weight-lift, you’re in double luck because there are over a dozen Olympic platforms and an ENTIRE SEPARATE ROOM dedicated to Olympic Lifters. (Seriously check out the photos!). I can’t say enough good things about this gym, it truly is one of a kind. The final shoutout I want to give is that this gym is truly Military Friendly. Every month they volunteer their time and their facility to training America's Next generation of service members. No matter who you are, you need to check out WSC, whether you’re here for a day, or a lifetime, it is a truly remarkable experience!

Huge space, extremely CLEAN, and tons of equipment. Whether you are new to fitness or have been an athlete for many years, Wolverine has something for everyone. There is almost always more then one coach on the floor at all times to help correct your form, and prevent injury. Being open 7 days a week, and hours from 6am-930pm allows flexibility to fit almost anyone's schedule. From the REV program (cardio based class) to the CrossFit program, there are many options to fill your fitness needs. Aside from the fitness aspect of WSC, the community within the walls of this place is indescribable. I have made many great friends through our shared love of fitness. WSC holds many community events throughout the year, game night, park wods, and just general group outings. Its just a great place to be where you can get a great workout in, feel comfortable, and have fun!!

I am proud to be a member of the Wolverine community for the past 1.5 years. Everyday coming into a great facility and being welcomed by coaches/friends that truly care about you and your fitness is something special and can't be found in every Crossfit gym. I work in law enforcement and I started Crossfit after a literal "fight gone bad." Knowing now that I am mentally and physically prepared for whatever the day can throw at me gives me confidence that I will go home to my family at night.

The coaching staff is knowledgable and their focus on injury prevention is reassuring. Wolverine has something for everyone whether you're looking to start your journey to a better you or train harder for your next competition. I know I will be a member of Wolverine Strength for years to come.

Wolverine is a great box and great community of people. I’ve been at Wolverine for 1.5 years, and have been working with the head coach for more than 3 years. One of the things that I most appreciate is that the coaches and owners want people to come in and use the gym. They really want members to get value out of the place, and it’s a great benefit that the group of people who coach and participate are all encouraging each other – from the folks who are getting ready to compete in The Games to those who are just trying to get in shape. Nearly every class has members at every level and age, which is a testament to the community that has developed, but that’s not to say the WODs are easy by any means. They are varied, challenging, and fun. I appreciate the continual focus on teaching proper form before WODs, which works well for novices and advanced Crossfit athletes. It’s also nice that when I’ve been away for a number of weeks, the attitude when you come back is β€œgreat to see you” instead of β€œwhere have you been”. I’ve recommended this box to friends and co-workers who are in town and they have all had a great experience too. Highly recommend.

I am picky about gyms and even more so about coaches. I knew I was looking for a gym that would push me to a higher fitness level. I was worried that CrossFit would be a bunch of meatheads, honesty. SO WRONG. As others have said, it is more than just a gym. I keep going for 4 reasons: #1. I am almost 40 and stronger than I've ever been, #2. I love that every day is different and pushes me mentally & physically, #3. The coaches are incredible, and the head coach Mike O'Brien is one of the best out there, and #4. The people make it a community - it truly is a fitness family. I didn't expect that.

I've been going to Wolverine since it opened in Nov. 2013 and absolutely would recommend it to anyone that wants to improve their physical, emotional and mental health. The staff, including lead trainer Mike O'Brien, is incredibly inviting, breaking down all of your fears about beginning a program at a gym. They will push you to be your best but they do so with a keen understanding of where you are physically, focusing on gradual gains, and they will be the first to tell you to slow down or modify an exercise so that you don't injure yourself in the short and long term.

Perhaps the best thing about Wolverine, though, is the community. I've been at other crossfit gyms where there is a competitiveness that is off-putting. Where members aren't friends but just people that show up at the same time to work out in the same setting. We are a family. Everyone cares about each other. You will make so many great friends because every day you will be greeted by like-minded individuals with a smile on their face that take as much pride in watching you succeed as they do in their own success.

I don't know how the staff at Wolverine forged that culture, but they have, and it makes going to the gym often the highlight of your day.

This community is always planning events too. Birthday parties. Summer cookouts. New Year's celebrations. Game nights. It seems like at least twice a month someone is inviting the whole lot to come hang out. It really is an incredible place.

I had some shoulder issues that required some PT, but thought I was finally ready to try CrossFit. A good friend recommended I try Wolverine, because she had heard they are very big on safety and proper form. So i decided to stop in for a trial class. I had worked up to running a few miles per day, lifting a few dumbbells, doing pushups and sit ups and thought I was in fair shape for my age. But I’d never tried CrossFit. That first class was eye-opening. About halfway through the warmup on that first day, I was ready to fall out. I was surprised by how unfit I really was, but everyone in the class was very supportive and helped me get through the rest of the workout. I immediately signed up and have been seeing steady improvements since. The coaches are very good at motivating and pushing you to work hard, but only within your abilities. As advertised, they do help you improve your form, strength, and mobility to get you consistently performing the movements safely. They also encourage folks to get to know each other, and help build a supportive environment where a newcomer can feel welcome. Highly recommend.

Great facility, great trainers, great people. I walked in almost 4 months ago out of shape and overweight and, while I'm still overweight (but dropping it steadily), I'm in much better shape, much stronger, and the journey so far has been a blast.

The main message I want to put out there about this place is: if you're intimidated, if you don't know if you can do it, if you're embarrassed about where you're at physically, so was I. Know that you will be welcomed here and the coaches will meet you where you're at. They have an well-honed ability to push you just past your comfort zone while keeping you safe. Form, safety, and steady progression are emphasized. I'm not an athlete, but I never feel out of place here. It's seriously hard work, and it should be - I neglected my body for a long time - but it's always worth it. And it's seriously fun, too.
