Yoga is Medicine is 100% independent and locally owned and offers traditional Bikram yoga taught by a 20-year-experienced Bikram-trained teacher. We teach accessibly for all body types, movement abilities, ages, sizes, and colors. Yoga postures are held still - we do not practices poses that put pressure on the wrists.
Our community is made up of individuals with a strong growth mindset, healing orientation, self-responsibility, mutual care, and thoughtful approach to health and wellness. Start feeling amazing!

Since starting the Yoga Kickstart program at Yoga Is Medicine a little over two weeks ago, I have found the experience truly transformative for my mind, body, and soul. It has been an honor to complete five sessions so far, and I look forward to many more.
The physical benefits I am experiencing are outstanding. I have lost a few pounds and am already seeing more definition as my abdomen becomes toned. The chronic discomfort and mild pain from tension and muscle stiffness in my lower neck and at the base of my shoulders—which had been troubling me for several months—have significantly improved. I am more conscious of my breathing, finding that each inhale and exhale now feels more fluid, and I have noticed a decrease in the shortness of breath I used to experience. I am also becoming more mindful of my posture and can better observe my alignment in moments that would have previously gone unnoticed.
Perhaps most profound is the benefit I have found in my journey to quit smoking. Without consciously “trying” to smoke less, I have naturally reduced my daily cigarette intake from ten (half a pack) to just four on average. This is a huge blessing for me, as I now find myself desiring to smoke less, thanks to the positive changes brought about by my yoga practice.
The mental benefits have been life-altering. As someone with several diagnoses related to mental health challenges, I am currently working to overcome these obstacles. Through Yoga Is Medicine’s Kickstart program, I am now able to observe my racing, intrusive thoughts with less judgment and self-criticism. The overwhelming feelings of anxiety that used to leave me paralyzed are being remedied, and I am proud to say that my panic attacks are becoming less frequent and less intense.
On a spiritual level, I have discovered the gift of being truly present. During sessions, I am able to connect with the presence of the here and now—what I am learning to recognize is “The Gift.” My gratitude for this experience is so profound that I even wrote a poem for Yoga Is Medicine while riding the bus to class last week.

Ann is amazing! I came to the yoga studio to heal my body after a car accident. It helped a great deal. The studio clean and comfortable. Ann is very welcoming and kind. She knows her stuff! I haven't been in awhile because of a lot of personal things going on in my life, but I do plan to eventually make my way back. I know my body would thank me. I highly recommend this yoga studio to all in the area. You won't be disappointed

This practice is precise, effective and safe for ALL! Such an amazing studio, teachers and staff. You will never find another that compares. Regardless of your motivations for joining you will not be disappointed. Some of the many health benefits I've received from this practice/studio include (but are not limited to) improved balance, clarity, state of mind, overall strength, sleep patterns, sense of peace (even during turmoil), digestion, breathing abilities and hormonal balance. I've also brought my body into physical alignment, reduced inflammation and pain (from a 10 to a 1!), expanded my lung capacity, lost and maintained weight and so much more. I am not a very flexible person but I hope to still tie my shoes when I’m 90!
Ann meets you where you are, in any body at any age. Her classes have improved my flexibility and strength, and helps me mentally focus the rest of the day.

I came here while on tour with Wicked and Ann was so welcoming. I’ve been practicing yoga for 10+ years and finding a new studio in every city can sometimes be difficult. Ann made me feel right at home. She was very kind and the practice was both thoughtful and challenging. Just what I wanted. She gave me thoughtful tips that I will carry with me on my yoga journey. The Yoga is Medicine studio has a variety of classes and modern formats to allow members to develop and enhance physical and mental strength. The classes are approachable for beginners and for those with health conditions. Ann is very encouraging and you don’t have to have prior yoga experience to get benefits from the class. This is an all in one experience and is time well spent. Come as you are and if the heat is a barrier, there are virtual and warm classes available. After practicing for a couple of months, I have noticed a reduction in anxiety, improved flexibility, greater balancing capabilities, and better mental focus. Once you start a regular practice, you will notice something is missing on the days you don’t attend.

Ann is exceptionally good at communication. She can speak to many different people at the same time without losing a beat.
Her timing/counting in between the instructions is precise to a nano second.
Ann teaches from a studio but she can see every single person in each little zoom box and gives feedback accurately as if she only teaches that one person and knows that person by heart.
The environment that she creates here in the class is light hearted, friendly, helpful and inspiring. I immediately felt being a part of the whole community and seen in my very first class and continue to feel that way in all the class that I took.
I came to Ann’s online classes and keep coming back again and again because I not only learn the techniques and many extra tips that she generously shares but also the philosophy of yoga and life through her teachings and more importantly I feel a strong connection at soul level with myself during the class and it lasts through my days.
I find myself coming home and I encourage you to take Ann’s class to experience it.

I didn't think of myself as a "yoga person" - whatever that is - about 5 years ago when I began coming to Bikram's studio. I run, box, mow lawn uphill and work really hard at my job. Yoga for me "quiets the voices in my head" because we get to listen to Anne or Carolyn's instructions for 90 minutes - which ends up being incredibly calming for some period of time afterwards. And the heated environment also relaxes tense muscles and allows better stretching, strength building. In a relatively short time (3 months?), I had much more range of motion in many joints, stopped a budding trigger finger and improved my ability to keep calm by "stepping outside of the situation/my own head." Bikram Yoga is the best! I have been at Bikram for many years and practice a few times a week. Bikram has helped reduce the number of migraines I get every month as well as lessen the discomfort I feel in my knees after many years of running. In addition, the hot room has been awesome for my skin. The heat allows for detoxification of my skin as it opens pores and increases circulation to the skin cells.
Ann is a fantastic instructor. She is extremely knowledgeable about the anatomy/physiology of the body and is therefore able to help her students overcome discomfort associated with injuries. She knows how to modify and adjust postures and offers options even before they are asked for. She is extremely patient and gives each student her attention.
I highly recommend Bikram Yoga for overall flexibility and good health! Ann offers great introductory offers all the time!

This studio, the owner, Ann, its instructors, and the yoga technique are so exceptionally amazing that it's hard to even know how to capture it in a review. As a busy working mother with lots of time commitments, BYCA offers me, not only an comprehensive and time-efficient physical workout, but an opportunity to focus on my own mental focus and well-being.
This studio offers an extremely welcoming and accepting environment for people of all types. The owner, instructors, and the yoga meets each person individually at their ability level. And if you're just looking for a physical workout, you can just focus on that (which it's amazing at , by the way!). If you're looking for a long-term investment in your mind-body, look no further!

Have been doing yoga in general for close to 5 years and Bikram for about 3 years before I first took a class at this studio. Because of covid I have been doing classes almost exclusively at home. When I first arrived at the studio I was greeted with a clean studio staffed by pleasant, professional staff. The owner Ann facilitated the class that day and was by far one of my favorite classes. She taught with kindness and grace. I have a hard time concentrating on my class if the teacher is to loud or militant, not a problem with Ann. The room was the perfect temperature. I sweat profusely and have a hard time with heat but found the heat to be just right (not always the case at other studios). Bikram in a studio has enormous benefits for my joints and mental serenity. Give it a try if you need either or both!

I fell in love with Bikram yoga in 2013 and found it to be life changing . Due to Covid I have not been in a studio since March of 2020. A couple of weeks ago I visited Ann’s studio and immediately felt like I was back home. She is beyond knowledgeable, compassionate , and encouraging . At first I felt like I was starting over again but with her guidance and wisdom I realize I am exactly where I am supposed to be . I would encourage anyone to give this yoga a try . I am 63 and have been practicing for about 8 years . I would like to express 2 main points .
1) Bikram Yoga gets you what money and medicine cant buy , living pain free . I should have been another statistic for back surgery , chiropractor bills and pain meds but practicing Bikram Yoga has negated that . As you get older you see your friends fall apart with back issues and other health issues and you start to realize you need to work at keeping your body fit to stay pain free . Bikram yoga is designed to help your body stay pain free , durable , toned and it works ! Just show up 3 to 4 times a week and you will see results better than any other modality that i know of .
2 ). Ann loves her students and cares deeply about them . She is also dedicated to teaching the practice the correct way without compromise. She works hard at continuing her own education so she can teach more effectively . She provides instruction tailored to your level with the goal of progressing to higher standards .

I have been practicing this style yoga for a year. I live in Virginia Beach, VA and my studio stopped traditional 26x2. I needed another option. I found this studio and I am beyond pleased. I've taken Ann and Zeb's class which were both fantastic. I look forward to taking other instructors, but will definitely catch these two as much as possible.

I can’t say enough great things about BYCA and it’s owner/instructor Ann. The vibe in the studio as well as the actual yoga sequence is all-inclusive meaning it’s ideal for every age, fitness level and every body shape. I feel welcomed from the moment I walk in, but the impetus behind my regular practice is this most incredible feeling I get after EVERY class. The data doesn’t lie either: With a regular practice, my asthma is much-improved and I can eliminate my edema (thanks genetics!) better in one class than by taking a prescription water pill. I wish I would have discovered this yoga, it’s benefits and Ann’s studio sooner!

I love to practice Bikram hot yoga at my home studio in East Lansing, Bikram Yoga Capital Area 4 times a week, from 2018. I like that Ann (owner of yoga studio) is keeping it traditional to Bikram 26 postures routine and she offers modern advantages like on-line classes, advanced practice. The studio is clean, has a lot of comfortable space for practice. Overall atmosphere is very friendly and relaxing.

I have been practicing Bikram yoga now for 14 years and have never had a teacher as knowledgeable, passionate, instructional and as inspiring as Ann.
She helped me heal the herniated disc in my lower back. Her teaching is one of the main reasons I moved here from San Diego this last summer.
When Covid started last March, I began taking her online classes. Even through Zoom Ann was able to see every little detail and correct and guide me into strength and balance.
The atmosphere in her studio is “family like”, extremely friendly and welcoming.

I just started recently doing some on-line yoga practice through Esak Garcia's e-studio, and some of the classes I do are with Ann of Bikram Yoga Capital Area. I had my doubts about on-line instruction and how different it might be from just accessing something on youtube. With Ann, the difference is quickly apparent, appreciated and worthwhile. One has an immediate understanding of how well she knows her in-studio participants, and how invested she is in their practice. For the on-line student, Ann is one who connects with each of those practising remotely. One learns from her specific instruction to those with specific issues as well as her general guidance through the 26 postures. I never go through her class without learning something new, experiencing something differently and/or hearing words that resonate for life both on and off the yoga mat. Her passion, caring, knowledge and willingness to answer questions, share expertise, humour and so much more, are so appreciated by me. If you're in Michigan, take advantage of the opportunity to go to her studio. And if you're practising in the Zoom Room, consider a class with Ann. It might just change your life!

This yoga practice is therapeutic on many levels and I’ve seen it help people with arthritis, sciatica, injuries and weight loss. While I’ve lost weight, built strength and improved my balance, the biggest benefits for me have been mental – I have stopped self-medicating for anxiety and depression, “graduated” after years of therapy and finally understand what self-compassion is. Plus I’ve met some amazing people along the way – instructors and students alike. You owe it to yourself to give this a try!

This is a total body workout. I appreciate the friendly environment, the fact that I don't need to know how to use a room full of machines (I only need myself, a mat, and water), and that the postures are the same each time so I can improve at my own pace. My goals are balance and strength after my last hike was tough; this workout helps me be prepared to enjoy other things I like to do!

I came to Bikram two years ago for many different reasons. Stress, grief, fatigue, you name it. I have never felt more comfortable. Ann is not only an amazing instructor she is a phenomenal person. I have been practicing here on and off for 3 years and have loved it. The yoga room, bathrooms and lobby are always clean and orderly. All of the teachers are extremely well trained and very detailed oriented with the postures. The yoga series can really help with sore joints from years of athletic and manual labor abuse too.

This is my 3rd week practicing Yoga at the Bikram Yoga Capital area, East Lansing, and all I can say is, it works! I feel more energetic and no longer feel as though my body is sinking and collapsing on itself. What else??? I lost about 6 pounds!! Certainly going to continue!

I have been going to Bikram Yoga Capital Area for almost 2 weeks now. I had tight hips and hamstrings as a runner, it helped me a lot and it increased my flexibility. I can tell as well it increased my mental strength and concentration while lifting. It is because how much you have to concentrate while doing a specific posture and the effort you put in it.
What I like about it, that every time you do the same 26 postures in the same order, so I can track my progress and learn more fine details about the same posture. The owner Ann is extremely helpful and personal, she spent time with me after each class teaching me how to breathe and how to do certain poses.
If you want to work hard and see tangible results, I would recommend it highly. However if you not serious about your flexibility, mental strength and general fitness, go somewhere else.
