When I moved to the area I tried out so many pilates and yoga studios and Yoga State is by far the best. It's very inclusive and the instructors are amazing. I went on a retreat to Colombia with them and had a great time not only with the planned activities but also with the people I met there. 10/10 recommend!

As a lifelong athlete, I have found everything I’m looking for at Yoga State to maintain my health. The Yoga instructors are fantastic! Jen, Payton and Grace’s classes are challenging and worth every drop of sweat I leave on my mat!
The Pilates classes with Melissa compliment my strength, balance and flexibility training. And the spinning classes with Carrie are fun while building up my cardio and leg strength. Yoga State is innovative offering lots of options. It’s a wonderful community of people.

My New Years Resolution was to go to one fitness class a week and Yoga State makes it something I look forward to every week! I love Pilates with Melissa. I love the open group classes that give you options no matter what level you are. When I really try to push myself I’m never feel scared I’m gonna hurt myself because she’s always watching and correcting! I came into abs class and found out we got weights. ITS EVERYTHING. I LOVE IT HERE. This small business provides classes that are better than any commercial gym I’ve gone to! 10/10 would recommend and do. If you see me in class say hi! ❤️

I love this place so much!! I frequently attend pilates with Melissa, and she is amazing at what she does. While pushing us to reach our full potential, she creates a fun and positive atmosphere for everyone. I feel as though her classes have truly advanced not only my physical capabilities but my knowledge of pilates breath, form, recovery, and so much more. Additionally, there is always something new I learn in each class, and I love the variety in exercises!! I am always so excited to attend classes, and I will always recommend it to anyone, regardless of yoga/pilates experience level!!!!

I attend the Okemos Yoga State. The staff are welcoming and on top of their game. Payton is a calm, friendly, and professional instructor. I’m new and still learning. Always a great experience that pushes me, yet not over the top.

The vinyasa sequences by every teacher is always so great, creative, different, and overall this is a wonderful studio & will continue to practice for my month stay until I return home. Thank you so much for this experience! Blessings
I loved Payton’s class on Tuesdays! Her hands on adjustment, sequencing, and music was so good!

What I love the most about Yoga State is that the teachers truly want to teach and help each student progress in their practice. To that end, there is the expectation that each student try their best and participate as a member of the community that is built in each class. I personally find that level of accountability and discipline so valuable, and it's the reason my practice has advanced beyond the point I had reached with YouTube videos and classes at other studios.
At this studio, you won't find teachers quietly ignoring the student who gives up when things get challenging or looking the other way when a pose is misaligned.
You WILL find teachers that provide gentle adjustments and encourage students to try hard things (and use modifications as needed!) so that every student can reap the benefit of the class and leave feeling fulfilled.
The classes here range from so, SO chill, to very intense. Many people are surprised to learn that yoga can be challenging and isn't "just stretching". There is so much more to it, and the teachers at Yoga State will teach you if you let them :)

I love Payton’s classes! She’s amazing. I was totally new to yoga, but the first time I went my resting heart rate dropped 6 points. I’ve been going ever since and feeling stronger all the time. Thank you, Payton!

Tried spin for my first time at yoga State and loved it. The class size was small, and the lesson was for beginners like myself, as well as people who are more advanced. I will definitely go back!

I've been a student here (and Yoga State - East Lansing) pretty regularly for 10+ years. It's been great for cardio and stretching, which I otherwise neglect during winter.
Jen (the owner) is excellent and teaches classes regularly (and even runs a Teacher Training course).

I’m new to yoga, but so far I have loved my time at Yoga State. The environment there has been so welcoming, calming, and non-judgmental. While the flows can be challenging as a beginner, the instructors definitely seem to emphasize going at your own pace, and focusing on doing the best you personally can do. From the few classes I’ve taken so far, Payton has been my favorite instructor. She does a great job explaining the different poses and ways to modify them, depending on if you want more or less of a challenge. I’d definitely recommend trying them out if you’re looking for a yoga studio!

Attended Peyton’s yin class for the first time. While it was difficult for me personally to fully relax, I feel motivated to keep try this unique yoga class! Peyton gives clear and calming instruction, and was very encouraging after the class with my experience.

From time to time I drop in on the $5 Sunday vinyasa hot yoga, and I am always pleased. It's different every time, due to different instructors, but I always end up deliciously sore the next day. My friend from 5th hour math class, Nigrel Garyard, told me that his thing with hot yoga is that people sweat from the heat, so they think they did a cardio work out, when in fact they didn't do a workout at all, and are still morbidly unhealthy. So true, Nigrel!

Great space to practice how to keep the body healthy, mobile, and happy. I can only imagine how many injuries I've avoided by adding Yoga State to my life.
They will encourage you to sweat, and push your limits physically, emotionally, or mentally. I would recommend this studio to anyone looking to reach the next level in any field and a great full body workout at the same time.
