Beautiful location, great showers, is not actually open 24 hours

I've been a member here for years! I love the people, the staff and the location! It's a smaller gym, so they don't have a pool or hot tub, but they have plenty of equipment and machines. The staff have ALWAYS been amazing. They have personal training available as well as a tanning bed. There is all the usual gym equipment. There are showers available in the bathrooms, but there are no locker rooms. They have a beautiful view of downtown St. Paul and the Mississippi River! They are right on the walking/bike trail for the river. They recently upgraded the club and added an additional restroom. There's now red light therapy as well!

This gym has EVERYTHING that is needed for lifting and cardio. The location is top tier and it seems that everytime I go into the restroom when working out, its clean with the smell of cleaner in the air. Last time I was in there, I checked the shower too - squeaky clean!

Last 3 times I was there, someone was walking around cleaning the equipment as well. The best gym I have ever been to in all my 45 years!

The only thing I dislike is thst they close at 10pm, I believe, which is understandable because there are apts right upstairs. Maybe that soundproofing material that is sprayed up on the ceiling like they do for parking garages in malls and other apts? I personally could care less because I'm in bed at that time winding down. Just a suggestion.

5 strong stars from me!

A great gym right at the banks of the Mississippi! The staff are very nice and always up for a chat or helpful workout advice. It has just been remodeled and is very clean. I usually work out between 5-6PM, Mondays can be a little busy, but in general it is quiet enough around that time that I don't have to wait around for my preferred equipment to become available. Would recommend!

I wouldn’t recommend getting a membership for this gym. The equipment is subpar and it is only open from 7-10, because it is attached to a condominium. Canceling your membership is a bear. It is also about twice as expensive as it should be.

I am new to the gym atmosphere. I've usually worked out by running and lifting free weights or using my body weight. Having a trainer to show you proper techniques and positions is KEY if you're going to workout in a modern gym.
Thanks to my coaches! Chad, Lissy, Zach, and Ross. You guys give me the motivation to show up in the first place. 💪🏾🫡

While there are multiple St Paul locations, this one is by far the best! Super unique location with a wide variety of equipment in a smaller space, without being too overcrowded. Used to do the training here before moving and man was it worth it!

Shout out to Zack for being available for questions!

This tucked away gym was surprisingly spacious with a variety of equipment. The showers were some of the only really handicapable I've seen with decent pressure. 👌

This is also the only gym I've seen with a tanning bed, according to staff "I believe that's for home gym members only, though if you speak to the manager that might be able to arranged."

This gym is proof you can put an Anytime, anyplace.

Nov 28th 2024 updated:

I can't do my workout routine at this gym. The treadmills are not working properly and I can't seem to find a place to do my 300 beginners reps. Specifically the body rows. I also just noticed that they have an all work outs must be finished by 10pm, which doesn't sound like Anytime.

I've been coming here for close to 4 years, and the personal training staff (Zach) has helped me grow stronger and more confident! Since joining this gym I've run over 2500 miles and done two full marathons, which I definitely wouldn't have been able to do without the strength training program! Highly recommend this place

This Anytime Fitness location is perfect for anyone seeking a welcoming atmosphere that encourages everyone to meet their fitness goals and do their best. All of the trainers are super supportive and encouraging. Lots of equipment. Plus, this location offers a fantastic view of downtown St Paul’s waterfront area, which is a great morale booster when you’re in the middle of a challenging cardio session. I give this place 5/5 stars very enthusiastically.

Tiny little gym with no lockers and not a lot of equipment. I'm not paying 60 bucks for a key fob just to leave my bag in an open cubby hole. Parking is a hassle. Go elsewhere.

Update: Weird how the response I got wasn't even someone with my same name. Guess I wasn't the only one who saw a problem with their little gym.

I originally had issues with the equipment at the gym and posted a 3 star review reflecting my opinion. Management reached out to me and have begun addressing the issues.

Only went to this gym because it was close to my residence. Considerably barebones only having about 50% of necessary gym equipment (including one rope pulldown attachment that was frayed and falling apart). I tried to cancel my membership because I was moving away with the redhead girl and she required a two week appointment in advance (TO CANCEL FFS) on top of giving me an attitude. When I was finally able to cancel, she required a proof of address? Like how was I supposed to provide residence to a place I hadn't moved to yet? Also hit me with a $50 cancellation fee. Overall, complete pain in the a. Do not sign a contract with this gym.

Great gym overlooking the river. Never crowded, there's always room for whatever workout you want to get in. Personally, I like the turf space for more mobile workouts. There is more free weights and kettleballs in this gym than you think. Platform raised weightlifting area has everything you need. Only downside is the limited hours, but due to the location that's no issue for me.

EDIT: Within minutes of leaving this review and giving my feedback through the AF website, Hannah emailed me using her personal email. I guess she doesn't have anything more important to do...

I worked with Coach Hannah on a consultation. She's very nice & she's one of the reasons I picked this location to try out - I knew from her picture on the Anytime website that she would make the experience less intimidating which I wanted because I have very little gym experience.

The fitness consultation went great and up until the end I was feeling really good about it.... HOWEVER, at the end of the consultation I was shown different small-group coaching plans that were way beyond my budget. The handout she showed me obfuscated the prices - on top of a ~ $720/year base membership, the small-group sessions would cost ~ $3500 !!! Absolutely not.

I tried to say nicely that I wasn't interested, and Hannah seemed to take it personally, verging on arguing with me about my refusal. The entire experience made me very uncomfortable. I went in the next day to cancel my membership - I'd rather go somewhere that didn't require a 12-month contract and didn't pressure members like this.

Terrible. Many times I have come in the middle of the summer to find that the inside temp is hotter than the outside. Using the treadmills is awful because of this. On hot days, I’ve seen the door to outside open to let in air. Also, my husband works with Covid-19 patients and did not feel comfortable working out here due to the risk of exposing others. An employee refused to let us cancel our membership after mistakenly telling us that we could and signing the contract cancellation. She withdrew the offer when she looked at our contract again. I’m leaving as soon as our contract allows.

Update as of 8/21: the gym is still sweltering, and it’s the end of August. Haven’t been able to use the gym the way I intended and paid for in my contract since June. So far I’m just being told that they’re “working on it.” But I’m still paying for a membership that I can’t use without overheating.

Convenient to where I live. Minimal amount of equipment. Removing the equipment I use, during the recent "update," didn't help. Need the calf machine back.

Would very much like to see some signs up concerning cell phone use. There are members who come here to workout their thumbs on their phones or carry on loud conversations. If people need to use their phones, they should do so in the lounge area. Ten minute on the text message and 30 seconds on a set is wasting equipment time. Specially when others are there and need that equipment.

I’ve been coming to this location for about two years now and I LOVE IT! I have a gym in both my apartment and office building now so I don’t frequent as much as I’d like to anymore, but I like to go when I have the time.

Most other reviews mention this but I’ll mention it again since the hours on Google aren’t an accurate reflection: this isn’t a 24 hour gym.

If you’re looking for a wide variety of machines, this may not be for you (though the selection is impressive for the limited square footage there is to work with). Sure they removed the calf raise machine last year, but I prefer doing calf exercises with the smith machine anyways. In spite of the small size, they have a good weight area with dumbbells, 2 squat racks, and a smith machine and that’s plenty for my workouts. The cardio machines have a gorgeous view of the river and downtown which I love for when I feel the need to force myself to do a gruesome HIIT workout on the treadmill. The club has made many improvements over the past two years and it’s clear they really care about making it a compact, convenient gym that fits the needs of most customers as much as possible while also being CLEAN! Many improvements have been made solely so they can do more group exercise classes which I’m personally not a fan of because the gym is tiny to begin with, but if you’re into group fitness, more power to you. If you’re a bro who likes to deadlift 400 pounds and drop the weight from a standing position, this probably isn’t for you because of the condos upstairs (based on the signs around the gym, I’m sure management gets an earful from the HOA about noisy weightlifters).

I’ve also enjoyed my interactions with the staff; there seems to be quite a bit of turnover, but everyone has been pleasant and very helpful. Overall, 10/10 would recommend this gym.

This location is an absolute joke. It is advertised as a 24 hour gym which is not true at all since it is open from 5am to 10pm. Has very minimal equipment.... (one squat rack which is also shared for bench, otherwise one smith machine bench press) I went in for my free week trial and had to sign up for a contract to get a key fob to come back in. Have not been back since but I get a bill every month because they want a few hundred bucks to cancel. Figured I’ll just pay my monthly bill until my contract is done and steer my friends away from the place.... but then this month I managed to get charged twice for my membership. I’m not sure if other locations are this brutal as well but I’m yet to have a positive experience here. I highly recommend using any other gym if you are looking to do any type of power lifts and if you are looking to experience decent customer service.

Tred mills, stair climber, bikes, elipticals for cardio. The rest of the place is mostly weight lifting equipment, very small area in the back for stretching and floor exercising.
Not sure if I was just there at a bad time but there was no one using the floor area while I was getting my heart rate up on the tred mill, when I went over there to streach it happened to be the exact moment a staff member decided the area needed to be vacuumed... directly around me. Maybe they vaccum every day at 4:38pm...

I have been to three types of Anytime Fitness Clubs: dumps with broken equipment (East side of St Paul and Grand Avenue), corporate clubs (Maplewood and Inver Grove Heights) and Spring Street.

Some people who were looking for a different kind of club have expressed that this is not the place for them. I am so happy there are a lot of choices for us, even among Anytime locations. I do not plan on leaving a negative review for the corporate clubs. They are simply not my taste. I expressed my concerns to the team at the East Side location, but they disputed my opinion. No need to leave a review there. They will drive away customers all by themselves. As for Grand Avenue, well, they had a broken treadmill with no sign on it and no way to tell them. I don't like that location. I don't think a negative review will change anything.

I am not a serious weight lifter. I do not drop or slam weights and am not interested in being around anyone who does. I want basic equipment to work. I am very pleased with the selection at Spring Street.

I do not like the flashy atmosphere of the corporate clubs. Yes, it was fun to use a bike with a video about biking in France. I did not like the loud music and TV that took up storage space. Nothing wrong with the corporate clubs, but they are not my taste.

I adore my little club on Spring Street. The music is a reasonable level. I can listen to my own music and not hear the club's. I love that there is a coat rack at the front door. Minnesota winters mean some serious outerwear, and I had a hard time stuffing it all in at the corporate location.

I love the atmosphere at Spring Street. I am always warmly greeted during staffed hours. I love the variety of people who come to work out there. One great draw, I think, is Jacek, a personal trainer. The club feels better when he is there. There is a really nice camaraderie among Jacek's clients and I think this spreads into other visitors.

If you are not happy at your current club, I encourage you to come visit Spring Street. For me, it is the Goldilocks club.

My least favorite Anytime in the area. Getting to or from the gym is not without difficulty with all the detours and u-turns, parking is near impossible some days, and they are not 24 hours, which is what I needed, otherwise, I would have gone to any of the other more reasonably priced gyms in the area. It is also very small and very busy.
What I do like: nice view of the river makes cardio less boring.
In all fairness, I knew about the hours when I signed up. I didn't think it would matter much because I have the ability to visit any of the other gyms in the area. As it turns out, it really does matter. A lot.

Serious lifter beware. This gym may be fine for casual gym goers but they are missing some essential equipment. During the one day I went I was doing upper body and they had no dip belts (the lady didn't even know what this was), no dedicated bench for bench press and only one squat rack. What this meant for me is that I had to set up a makeshift bench in the squat rack and only after waiting until it was unoccupied for quite a bit.

On the plus side the facility was cleaned and well maintained, the lady was very kind and seemed to care about everyone in the facility and parking was no issue. There is a railroad track that runs right in front of it which may cause issues getting there.

Its ok. Issues are: parking. Can be tough sometimes. Location - can be goofy to get to for sure. If there's a train, hard to get here via St Paul route. It's not 24 hours as a pending lawsuit for 'noise' has the gym closed from like 10PM to 6AM or something. It's been posted on their door forever, so, not sure why the other reviewer wasn't aware (there are apartments above it). Also, if the Excel has an event, it can make it even more difficult to reach this gym.
