Every time I attend a class, I learn something new. From driving with my legs before using my arms in lifts to body position and form in gymnastics, there is always something to work on. Form isn’t always a priority for other gyms, but it is for Hallie. That focus alone will make anyone a better and stronger mover. So proud to be part of this community.

10/10 recommend BearFitness! I have been coming here for 10 years and it’s still one of my favorite places to be. I originally joined the gym for the workout but have stayed because of the community. Through all phases of my life, including becoming a mom, I have found this gym to be so supportive and welcoming. Head coach, Hallie, is definitely one of the best. I used to be very good at making excuses and very bad at keeping up any kind of workout habit. I knew I needed to try something different or my 42-year-old body would start failing me…I was already feeling it. I joined a friend for a trial workout at Bear Fitness, and I haven’t looked back since.
No more need for excuses…the variety of workouts push me hard every time, the coaches are knowledgeable, supportive and genuinely care about us improving, and the community is like no other—welcoming, encouraging, and always celebrating each other’s successes. I’m almost two years in, and though I’ve worked harder than ever before, it has been surprisingly easy to build the habit and keep showing up. Just love Bear Fitness!

I absolutely love this gym! The sense of community here is incredible, and it's such an inclusive space.

Another update another year or so later:
Gym is under new ownership and thriving! Still the same great community, a great core group of knowledgeable coaches, and a wide range of athletes at different places in life and their fitness journey. It more like a family than a gym.
Update:
Been at the gym for 5 years now and aside from all of the fantastic new members, not much has changed. The people make this gym great...good coaches in a supportive and motivating community of members.

I have been at Bear Fitness for almost 3 years. The facility is good, the coaches are attentive and take time to know the goals and struggles of their members. Most importantly the community is amazing. Always supportive, always inviting to newbies and drop-ins and making this a place that is easy to come back to 5 or more days a week. It's like a group of friends pushing each other to eat better, work harder and be better, healthier, people.

I recently attended a class with Melissa and wanted to share my experience. The class was fun and well structured. Melissa was very knowledgeable and always willing to answer questions, providing detailed and insightful explanations on technique or scaled movements.
One of the highlights of the class was the feedback on the exercises was quick and constructive, helping me improve and understand the techniques better. I felt like she was very attentive and was very good at giving me different options when I couldn’t do a movement.
Lastly, I loved that she encouraged me and CELEBRATED my last few heavy reps. :) I love this because I don’t get this at my home gym.
Overall, I highly recommend this class to anyone that is interested. Melissa creates a supportive and stimulating learning environment that fosters growth and curiosity.

My husband and I relocated to Maplewood from Northeast Minneapolis over 3 years ago. Up until the beginning of June this year I was driving to Northeast Minneapolis to my fitness studio. That's commitment! I miss the owner, coaches, community and workouts, was there for 5 years, but the drive, especially in the winter, lack of opportunity to make up missed classes, parking lot situation, and finally construction was putting a lot of stress on me and creating barriers to working out. I also thought it made sense to start meeting people in my community near Maplewood since I no longer was a resident in NE Minneapolis.
I dropped in for a class and had a personal training session then decided to join Bear Fitness. There were some similar types of movements and I've done some powerlifting in the past, but some of the barbell work we do at Bear Fitness is quite new to me. It's uncomfortable but in a good way! I think anything new we try in life is going to be uncomfortable at first. I still am not 100% sure how I feel about the workouts yet, but I see progress, and I keep showing up because I feel supported. Everyone works at their own level and there are no judgements. The coaches make sure to do everything to help prevent injuries, help with our form, and encourage me to work at a level I feel comfortable with. If anything Bear Fitness is not a “gym”, is less intimating than a big box gym because you know what the workout is before coming so you're not wasting time or doing mindless exercises possibly injuring yourself with no direction expecting results, and less people in classes. If you are consistent and patient you will get results.
I've noticed small changes in only 3 months. My upper body is stronger and I can do full push ups easier at times. Before I could only do knee push ups. There are times when I still need to modify but that's ok! My husband even said my walk is a little different with my arms😅 I think being supported both at home and in a fitness community is so important. I've noticed I get way less migraines since I've been able to workout somewhere close to home and have time in the morning to wake up to have my coffee with my husband and our cat before class. I think less stress about my drive and not waking up at 5:45am to get to class has helped a lot with how I feel overall. I have flexibility with my job and usually come to the 9am class, but also have a variety of times to choose from with classes if I need it. Try and have an open mind coming here and have fun!

I love the classes at Bear Fitness, and I couldn't be happier to be BACK! All of the coaches are incredibly knowledgeable and supportive, always keeping an eye on our form while pushing us to reach our full potential. The owner, jake, is kinda a perv. From my experience it’s uncomfortable to work out there with him, and uncomfortable to be a coach there too (I heard). The social media account is just gross sometimes and super unprofessional but then he is too. Overly sexualized stories or gross comments on members pics that are posted for everyone to see. Straight up calls his members sexy or DILFs and posts it online. Doesn’t feel like a safe space to just workout. Quit here a while ago and moved somewhere else. Trying to say anything is hard when your a small woman and you don’t know anyone there really cuz your new and then the coach is the owner too. Who am I gonna talk to? Better for me to just move on. Posted anonymously to avoid retaliation in my personal life cuz he’s not good with feedback. If your a dude and don’t care about this stuff then the prices will get you. The program is awful and the prices just keep going up. No idea how the place even stays open.
No $ kickbacks or membership incentive for this review, unlike some others.

I've been a member since May 2021 and love working out at this gym! The first year I learned that "scaling is cool", weightlifting is great (didn't have barbell experience), and cross training really helps with other life activities like half marathons, rock climbing, general fitness, & acceptable caloric intake. The second year I challenged myself to get stronger and faster. And now in year 3, my coaches are encouraging me to work on more challenging movements and helping me improve my technique. They truely want you to "get better" every day and meet you where you are at. The best part about this gym is the community membership - from social outings to workout encouragement, this group of people is what makes the gym home. Easily the best gym I’ve ever belonged to! The community is great and so supportive of all fitness levels. The coaches are awesome, and the workouts are challenging but fun. It’s easy to stay committed because of the people and the programming. The classes are different and changing every day, so it never gets stale. I’ve been going for a little over a year and have seen major differences in my body composition, strength, and ability. When I started I knew very little about weight training, the coaches and group support have changed all of that and I’m now in the best shape of my life. I have never felt better, and this is easily the best part of my day. Bear Fitness makes working out consistently a breeze!

Before starting here I was told to not do certain lifts due to an ongoing lower back issue but with tweaks to form and new core workouts, my lower back is better than ever. Only issue is the owner gets a little spicy when you beat him in a lift 😏

Bearfitness sweat class with coach Jess is the best workout program I have done. The classes are so fun and each person has such a positive attitude. My favorite part is no one finishes a workout alone. Someone will jump in next to you and keep pushing you to finish. This gym is not about being the best but pushing yourself to finish something you've started. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a true community based gym.

When I started coming to Bear Fitness about 5 months ago. I was at my lowest point physically and mentally. I nearly cancelled my first foundation's class because I was so overwhelmed, but I didnt and it was the best decision I've made in a long time.
I was nearly 80 pounds overweight walking in and not one person made me feel i wasn't welcomed. The coaches told me they push consistency vs intensity. I was never told I couldn't do something, instead was given a scaled option. The coaches, especially Jason, know how hard they can push you while still ensuring you're successful.
This place is my saving grace. It's my family. I started at 2x/week and now am going 4-5x/week. I haven't felt this good in a long time. While I've lost a good chunk of weight, I've gained strength and confidence in myself and that's worth its weight in gold.

Wanted to update this review after being here a year.
This is a great gym. I've lost 14 pounds and gone up in all my lifts over the last year. The coaches are knowledgable, supportive, and personable. There's a ton of community events. There's also a variety of options for how you want to workout, from longer cardio focused workouts to Crossfit to classes focused exclusively on weightlifting. All levels of physical fitness are welcome here. I'd highly recommend giving this place a try.

First time doing CrossFit and BearFitness has blown stereotypes out of the water. Not only are the staff and athletes friendly, welcoming, and hard-working, the gym is family friendly, offers a variety of classes, and has quality equipment. They are also flexible to your needs, so if you don't need a month-long membership, you purchase a set amount of sessions.

I'm currently doing the 6 week new you challenge, I've been going to different gyms for years and have never had so much fun working out. The coaches are so encouraging and tend to everyone's individual needs and levels. Having classmates to cheer you on and struggle with you makes me excited for every class, would 10/10 recommend this program and gym!

I was super nervous about starting CrossFit since I had never really lifted weights before and was intimidated by everything I've seen or heard about CrossFit. Plus I thought I'd stick out like a sore thumb. I finally worked up enough courage to walk into CrossFit White Bear and I'm so glad I did!
Right away the coaches and other athletes made me feel welcome and were super encouraging. I have never felt out of place here. Besides the atmosphere being amazing the coaching staff is really knowledgeable and will take the time to make sure you are doing the movements correctly. The workouts are always different which makes it's fun and challenging, but the best part is seeing how much you improve!
I have now been a member for 1.5 years and can honestly say it's been the best decision I've made. I'm stronger than I've ever been and love walking through those doors every day!

Great atmosphere! People are always will to help you out and the instructors are more concerned about your form than big weight. If you are concerned about jumping into Cross Fit without the proper direction, this is the gym to join. They make sure you are ready, and coach you through the exercises you have struggles with.

The atmosphere here is super fun!! Really you have to come experience it for yourself! The community, workouts and highly skilled coaching staff are the very reason that my girlfriend and I drive 20 minutes to and from the box daily, passing four other boxes on the way.
My first drop-in I made I wasn't sure what to expect, however I was greeted by a smiling coach and athletes introducing themselves, immediately I felt welcomed. My girlfriend and I did a lot of "CrossFit box shopping" before we decided on CrossFit White Bear. We were looking for an inclusive and welcoming community, an atmosphere of competition and somewhere we could spend our social time.
The community of CrossFit White Bear is what sold us and keeps us coming back. We have made several friends and everyone at the box is supportive and friendly. The box is also very dog friendly. The coaches and other athletes will bring in their dogs during their workouts and there are treats for them as well.
Their head coach Thomas and their Oly coach Tania are top notch, very knowledgeable and are well experienced in competition. They make the workouts fun and you want to keep coming back to show them how you improved.
We've been going now for 1.5 years and are so happy we found CFWB!

I started CrossFit a year ago at CrossFit White Bear. I have to say that my results were noticeable within 6 wks. The trainers (Jake and Thomas) really listen to your goals and set forth a plan to achieve them. The other members are very supportive and encouraging. I HIGHLY recommend CFWB.
