The gym itself is nice and the staff is great. One downside is the sauna is absolutely disgusting. These benches are nasty from people wearing shoes, dirty gym shorts, and not rinsing off before hand. Just the other day, there was a person talking in their phone, another guy exercising, and everyone else texting. This needs better etiquette and to be put on a cleaning schedule (or honestly rebuilt altogether with how gross the wood has gotten).

Watch for the bait and switch from this place. They will get you to sign up for “trials” and then bill you for the whole thing and make it incredibly difficult to cancel that “trial”.

Canceled my membership. Just found a better and more friendlier gym where you feel more welcomed. Most employees there don’t smile at you, extremely rude. Overall just a no. Weights are ok

Beware of their cancellation policy. You cannot cancel online or on the phone. You must see them in person. We cancelled a membership with them in person and they continued to bill our bank account. They said no cancellation paperwork showed up on their system. They refuse to reimburse fraudulent charges. I’ve reported them to the BBB and with their local police department.

I was definitely nervous about joining the gym… some of the reviews are positive and some not so much.
The staff really got my attention, very kind people and treated me like I belonged, which helped sooth the nerves for sure… the facility is absolutely stunning with how large it is. Sauna is my favorite part looks like some people wear shoes in the sauna and don’t have good etiquette in there which must be hard to keep up with but that’s my only gripe

Been going here since it's opening. As far as the facility goes-
Pros: It's affordable membership and they replace floor equipment.
Cons: Not a very well hygienic locker room.
Sauna heater itself is underperforming more often than it performs.
Sauna is filthy all the time.
No bags on gym floor is not enforced at all.

It's unfortunate because for a while the place was really nice but the hygiene and constant sauna unit has been mid. Staff allows gym goes their bags and really not cool when navigating a busy gym. Especially if they're recording fitness content. It's a public gym sure, but if you're gonna be lax on rules what's the point.
Only thing keeping myself and some other guys at this gym is the price.

The gym itself is fine. My issue with the place is their cancellation policy. I have gone to multiple different gyms and they have always made the cancellation process simple, whether that’s a phone call or an email. This place makes you either come in to the gym in person or mail them a letter. It’s a ridiculous money grab and overall frustrating.

Unpleasant experience day one, tour guide was not helpful or informative. Equipment Red Light therapy was improperly turn on at desk and red light was not illuminating, 10 mins was useless. I’m experience infrared Sauna client! I requested add’l support at end of my visit with Red Light from other staff. He turn equipment at desk, then went in .. turn it on… illuminating red lights was functional 👌🏽
Then, visited the women’s locker room which loved beautiful deco, bright and clean.
But, to my surprise… went use shower after being in Red Light Therapy room,
Horrible conditions! Tried all four showers…
ALL Showers had multiple large clumps of hair in showers floor, and dirty! Gruesome

Great low priced gym! Has more equipment and amenities than I would expect at this price point.

My favorite equipment are the 4 racks with a dead lift pad and the entire cross fitness area.

The locker rooms have saunas and there are group classes available. Most the machines have rep and rest counters.

The gym isn’t the cleanliest and the most maintained as other reviewers noted.

This place has such great value - I do group fitness classes and HIIT workouts here and the workouts are fun and effective and a nice variety, the instructors friendly and knowledgeable, and somehow I pay for a month what I'd pay for a single lesson kid's lesson of something.

I got memberships for my girlfriend and I at crunch fitness - Maple Grove in early august of 2023, which I canceled around a month after, because the gyms sucks. I canceled with one of the employees over the phone. The employee told me that I was all set and both accounts were canceled. On 11/28/2023 | was charged 2x for $211.20. Then on 12/07/2023 | was charged 2x for $34.88. When I called the gym and asked, I was told I was being charged for several late fees and other fees, and that a manager will call back later in the day. I did not receive a call from the manager so I called the store back and asked for a manager. I spoke with Sade Sunderland, he informed me that my accounts were not canceled because I did not complete an in-store signature. I told Sade his employee had not informed me that I needed to come in the store to sign and had not given any paperwork stating otherwise. When asked where it says I need an in store signature on my contract, Sade could not locate those specific terms. He also got aggressive when I visited the store to get the charges taken care of. When asked if he would be willing to refund the incorrect charges as this was a result of his employees lack of knowledge, Sade said he will not be refunding any money. Looks like I am not the first person this has happened to. After providing some evidence to my credit company, they reversed the charges promptly as they were not valid.

the trainers and the staff don’t know how to treat other with respect, when they are on a machine working out they just tell them to get off because they are training someone and say that machine is reserve when it’s clearly not reserved because nobody’s been touching it for hours, but what I’m mad about is the way they
tell the person to get off the machine in a rude way. I would not go to this gym anymore or recommend my friends and family…

Ra’Janae is such a light! From the moment you meet her, you can feel her passion, positivity, and genuine care for others. She’s incredibly knowledgeable and makes you feel welcomed, seen, and supported. Her energy is so contagious—it’s clear she truly loves helping people become the best version of themselves. I highly recommend connecting with her if you get the chance! You can tell she truly cares and wants to help others succeed. If you’re looking for someone who brings good vibes and real dedication, she’s your girl! Book a training session with her or attend a class.

It's great you're adding more machines but what crunch really needs is more room. A very feasible option would be to take out the walls of the yoga and cycle studios. Then make that into usable space for all hours of gym operation. Since the yoga literally has 5 classes per week and I think the cycle is the same. It's very depressing to see a packed gym but those 2 rooms never in use. Such wasted spaces.

I had an amazing personal training session with Sou at Crunch Fitness! Sou is incredibly knowledgeable and gave me a lot of great advice to improve my workouts. He pushed me to my limits in the best way possible, motivating me to go beyond what I thought I could do. If you're looking for a dedicated and skilled trainer, I highly recommend Sou. The gym itself is probably the best gym to go to in Minnesota, they offer so much value at the best prices.

Increasing my rating by one star for the much-needed new equipment—thank you for that.

However, the gym’s cleanliness remains a major issue. Personal trainers still don’t wipe down equipment after sessions, and gym patrons fall into two camps: those who wipe and those who don’t. Unfortunately, the latter outnumber the former. Despite the owner’s previous response promising action, there’s been no improvement in communication, wipe availability, or policy enforcement. The floor gets a casual vacuum, but look under the free weight racks, and it’s a dust bunny graveyard—when was the last time this place was actually deep-cleaned? I’m convinced it never has been. And I wish I could attach photos because the water bottle/drinking fountain situation is flat-out disgusting.

Staff attentiveness and friendliness are still nonexistent. One woman at the front is friendly, but the rest? Indifferent at best. No effort has been made to change this.

Aside from the new machines, nothing has improved since my original review.

At least it’s cheap. I guess you really do get what you pay for.

----------------
I’ve been a member of this gym for a while now, and while it technically serves its purpose, there’s a lot that could be better. I mainly stick to free weights, which works for me, but the machines? Not so much. They feel old and clunky—there’s definitely better equipment out there. A second Smith machine would be a game-changer since there’s always a wait, and the one seated leg curl machine has been broken for months. How long does it take to fix one machine?

More concerning, though, is that the gym seems to be hitting critical mass. Even the benches are constantly in use, meaning more waiting, less actual working out. It’s great that the gym is clearly making a ton of money, but it’s getting crowded to the point where it’s becoming a problem for the people who actually want to work out.

Cleanliness is another issue. At first glance, things look fine, but take a closer look, and it’s clear no one’s paying attention. A mud spot sat on the locker room floor for four days. Four. That’s not an oversight—that’s just a lack of cleaning. And don’t even get me started on the inside of the lockers. There also seems to be just one guy responsible for all the cleaning. He’s friendly and always smiling, which is great, but a gym this size needs constant upkeep—not one person doing his best to hold the place together. The gym provides cleaning towelettes, but they’re used maybe 40% of the time. The dispensers are inconveniently placed, so the free weights rarely get wiped down. Most members don’t bother cleaning up after themselves, and I’ve even seen staff, including trainers, skipping it. Not exactly setting a good example.

Then there’s the staff. I don’t expect much—just basic professionalism—but even that seems to be a stretch. In all the time I’ve been a member, I’ve been greeted at the front desk maybe five times. Usually, there are three to five employees back there, glued to their phones or chatting with each other, completely ignoring members. The trainers, apart from one guy who actually seems friendly, generally act like they’re too cool to acknowledge anyone. And then there’s the bearded guy—his entire job seems to be wandering around at a leisurely pace, chatting up women on the machines. I have no idea what his actual role is, but it’s definitely not helping members.

Oh, and I found out on the website that I was supposed to get a free gift when I signed up. Never got it. And honestly, given how disengaged the staff is, I don’t feel like interrupting their social hour just to ask.

At the end of the day, the gym technically meets my needs, but it could be so much better. A little attention to equipment, cleanliness, and staffing could turn it from a place I tolerate into a place I actually enjoy working out.

And before anyone says, "Why not just tell the gym directly?"—I did. I sent all of this in an email a month ago. No response.

This gym started out great but little did we know how fast and how hard it would fall.
Cleanliness: 0/10, see Paul’s review below. It’s been this way with REPEATED conversations with local management and regional management. This place does not get cleaned to an appropriate level for a gym with seemingly 1 million members.

Equipment selection: (when working) 10/10. Problem is half the stuff doesn’t work.

Staffing: 3/10. They’re either way over staffed with 7 people reading or on their phones or there’s 1 person who can’t leave the front desk.

Cubbies are ALWAYS locked from the previous day/week/month//year. I’ve been the first person in the gym at 430 and all of the cubbies are locked. These should be unlocked and cleaned out nightly when the club is supposed to be getting cleaned (I say supposed to be because clearly this gym has no cleaning schedule).lockers in the locker room also have the same locks on them day after day.

There’s a seam in the bench area that’s been pulled up since the place opened. The staff knows the issue as they’ve been told multiple times, plus they workout in that area themselves. Not sure if it’s going to take a class action lawsuit from a member in order to get it fixed but it’s a serious tripping hazard.

Bathroom & locker rooms are to be used at your own risk. Showers have fleas growing in them (again, management has been alerted to this MULTIPLE TIMES this year alone, no resolution). See Paul’s review with video of the sauna and fleas in the shower

Since I can't respond to the Crunch response, I guess I will just update the review. I can't imagine reading my review, and choosing to reply with "functioning equipment" as the primary rebuttal. There are 4 rowers in the corner of the turf area, and at best 2 are fully functional on a given week. The seated leg press machine with stackable weights was out of order for 2 months. When it comes to equipment selection, Crunch does this well. There are multiple machines for various muscle group training. The main issue here is the cleanliness of the sauna and mens locker room. These continue to be neglected and other reviews indicate I'm not out of line in my assessment of the conditions.

The gym itself is good but I have to give a low rating due to the games they play with cancelling your account, It's ridiculous. Can't cancel online, called and they don't cancel over the phone. I went in and then there is a 30 cancellation notice so basically they get another month out of you. Kind of frustrating.

I purchased the Peak Results package for the child care. They should have patrons use ID or key fob to pick up kids. The bathroom, particularly the showers were dirty for at least a couple weeks. Patrons bring their gym bags in the workout area that takes up space and I've seen people trip. People will get off of workout equipment to take photos, come back to machines and throw a stink because they "were still using it." I'm in my early 30s so I understand everyone wants to be popular on social media but I'm on a timeline before work so I like to get in and out.
I've seen water bottles spill and people leave it there, workers walk past it. I've asked it to be cleaned up and it still sat there.  This gym has potential with it's amenities but their own rules are not enforced. Lazy management perhaps or just lazy workers?
After a few more instances, I realized this isn't the gym for me and canceled my membership. I'm paying more somewhere else but it's kept clean and people are respectful of rules because management does enforce them.

I frequent this location and Blaine, and I can say this location is far better. Better equipment selection imo. Main issues I have are the size of the free weight area. You're basically shoulder to shoulder and it's near impossible to even get to the dumbbell rack at times, and hard do do any standing work without being in the way. Also not thrilled that they recently got rid of a squat rack, making it even harder than it already was to get on one. Place can also be overly crowded, doubled with people hogging equipment while watching Tik toks for 5 mins between sets. Overall it's a great place, just gotta try to utilize the quieter hours

Zero stars for this SCAM of a gym. Our family moved out of the area and needed to cancel my husbands gym membership. We called multiple times and were met with rude unhelpful people saying we can’t cancel unless we come in or write a letter. Coming in is very difficult as we moved out of the area and a letter would not get to them in time to not get charged. Then they finally say we can write an email to the manager and so we do and the manager never responds. So my husband goes in to cancel in person!!! And they can’t do it and he needs to come back January 3rd…. WHAT!!!!! At this point I’ll just work with my bank to block their charge because this gym is obviously just a scammy place.

Tried text, email and called to cancel membership and continue to debit acct. attorney general complaint filed! Poorly managed operation!

Thanks for the misleading response. My text to Adam personal trainer on 5/6/24 at 8:36 clearly outlines my intentions. Then a follow up call to your desk is conveniently missing as well as emails. So after 5/6/24 no follow up by your personal trainers to “stay with you all the way” like you advertise or a “plan tailored to you”. After 5/6/24 never did I have communication with your PT group but you continued to bill $300 per month which is a testimony to to your not managing your staff and could care less about the personal training it’s all about the billing. So I never took another PT session but you billed me. Then you say you don’t have my calls or email, but I have the text! Interesting there is no corporate number, “managers” that don’t exist. Jake is trying to get this refund done, but he is new I guess old public PT manager quit! Bottom line you will refund my $1800 for services never provided or we will continue this public explanation to protect some unsuspecting person from going through this and will be adjudicated

Will just keep adding to this. Although I text, emailed and called May 2024 to cancel I had to cancel my debit card to get it stopped. Then they call you 10 times per day from a foreign country harassing you. Then I threaten them never to call again and they email you. Seriously, anyone who attends this place is foolish! They had no intention to provide PT services and I have a text from manager telling me as much, noting last manager was fired as well as PT trainer for doing what I outline in this review. Stay away!

I start became membership with Crunch 1st in May 21. 2024. They took all my debit and credit card informations in file. Up to today Sept 2024 which mean I have been with them 4 months.
I saw they way overcharged me two last months.
I brought my statements to the Gym asked them why? They said the system couldn’t get my payments therefore I got 4 late fees for 4 months which is total $60 overcharged
Excuse me! That really doesn’t make sense at all. I have all 4 statements in hands
Crunch had been taking money out of my credit card every month since May $32.70. June $34.70.
July $118.86. August 64.86.
How could he explain to me I got late fee $15x4 months =$60? They had my credit card and taking money out every month. How could I late pay?
Eventually he said it will credit back for me.
If I don’t pay attention to my statement
I could lose bunch of money every month for their poor system. Everyone should pay attention on your statement see what they charge you. Hope not like my case. So bad experience.

I wasn’t sure what to expect as a first timer. I knew the best chance I had of sticking with it was if I hired a personal trainer. I’ve been working with Ceice for about 8 months now and I am blown away by the results! She is amazing, she pushes me to my limit everyday in a fun and exciting environment and I have muscles coming out that I never knew existed. She’s tailored my training plan specifically to the sport that I’m training for and the goals I’m looking to achieve. Highly Highly recommend!

I’ve also had the pleasure of working with Jeff, Gabby and Isabella as well and I tell ya the morning training staff here at Crunch in Maple Grove is Excellent. I can only imagine the same can be said about the afternoon crew.

Friendly staff, friendly guests, clean gym, happy environment.

If you’re on the fence, just get a membership already. See you in there!

Great gym, good price for what you get. My daughter loves going to the kids area. Some of the equipment there are only one or two of, so I sometimes find myself waiting. Also lots of people that take forever between sets just camping.

It is unsettling at this facility. I have seen management reprimanding staff in the gym area (multiple times). I have seen harassment by a male member. The person who was being harassed said they would not report it because they know the male just gets away with it everything. So many recording their workouts, accusing anyone walking around to get out of their filming. It's definitely designed for a specific client and I am not that client.

Absolutely horrible experience. I rarely leave reviews, but this needs to be addressed.

I had an appointment for a free trial, and to meet with a personal trainer. I was told to ask for a specific trainer once I got there, as I was previously scheduled at a different time, with a different trainer. When the trainer came up to me, she looked me up and down and was extremely rude. She accused me of having my days mixed up, as she had someone else booked with her at that time. I showed her the text messages, and she still was extremely rude, and not welcoming. After about 10 minutes, she stated that the first trainer I was scheduled with, could get me in, now.

The second trainer didn't even come up to me and introduce herself, she just walked to the back and I was told to sit at a desk and she'll be right with me.

After about 15 minutes, no one showed up and another trainer came over to ask if I had been helped. I was so frustrated at the point, that I actually started crying. He was extremely sweet and took me outside so I could explain what happened. He was very empathetic and apologized for my experience.

I don't think the two woman trainers understand that I was being vulnerable, putting myself out there and they made me feel like I didn't belong there, and were very cold.

Moral of the story, I called the manager to tell him about my experience, and my hope is that all of the trainers are made aware that the logo: positivity, inclusivity, and fun.... starts with their employees and how they treat "customers".

Just joined the gym less than one week ago. Major draw back is one must be a polar bear to like the extreme freezing temps indoors. Last week upon arriving the outside doors into the building were wide open. Either they are air conditioning the outdoors or letting heat in. Ridiculous and total waste of energy. The other times the air blasts on high inside. If makes for a most miserable workout. Will most likely be dropping this membership.

Just went in to cancel my membership because I am moving. They make you pay for one more month. They also pretended like they “had” to charge me the annual fee (another $50+) because the last month they force you to pay for falls over my one year mark. I literally heard them talk in front of me about if they had to charge me for one fee or two, and after a looooooooooong pause Noah said to charge me for both. The other guy said that since he’s been working there (August 2022) he’s never seen this happen before and would lose his job if he didn’t charge me both fees. Sure.

This is all on top of the fact that it is impossible to get a workout in anytime from 5-close. You’d think it would clear out, towards the evening, but no. Machines and free weights are always packed. There are only 4 squat racks and 3 benches.

I've waited to write a review until I felt sure I've tried a bit of everything (except HIIT classes, not my thing).

The space is great. It doesn't ever feel crowded, even when it is busy. The Functional Fitness area is really useful and I appreciate that so many people can be working out there without interruption from one another. There are plenty of cardio machines, as well as weight machines. I'm not much of a free weights person, but there are tons available. Locker room is fine, sauna awesome.

The childcare, while not stellar, is good enough for my fairly independent 4yo. She definitely has a favorite care person there. I wish there were more physical activities in Kids Crunch, instead of a movie or show always being on. Even like a ten minute circuit kids could do each hour (frog jumps, bear crawl/walk, crabwalk, a few yoga poses, hop on one foot, etc) that is lead by one of the people there would be awesome just to get kids moving.

Classes: I've been to the Ride (spinning or cycling depending on instructor), Zumba, Cardio Tai Boxing, Yoga Sculpt, one of the TRX classes, Belly, Butt, & Thighs, and Top it off. The instructors are pretty good and there will always be some that are better based on your own preferences. I haven't had any that I absolutely would not return to, which is a great sign.
I hope the yoga offerings are expanded beyond Yoga Sculpt. I'd love a relaxing or stretching yoga class. I would also really like a bodyweight strength class. I understand wanting to use the equipment because it's a gym, but bodyweight offers its own benefits one can't otherwise get. I'm excited to try the Ultimate Dance Party.

A lot of what reviewers have said about the cardio equipment is true. It is pretty basic, but workable.
------
Edit March 2024: I left Crunch and then returned. I now have a 2.5yo, who usually wants to go to the Kids Crunch. Still no organized or visibly offered physical activities there.
I've found I really love the StrongHIIT classes and depending on the instructor, there is a variety (one instructor does it this way, another that way). I like the variety, and go 3-4 times per week, when able.

There aren't kickboxing classes anymore, which I miss tremendously.

I highly recommend the So you Think You Can't Dance class. It's really fun and body positive!

Clean and pretty well equipped. Too many members at maple grove location. Hard to get in and out with everyone sitting on the equipment texting. Gym bags laying all over the gym despite the no bags in the gym "policy'. Only 1 ab bench for a gym called crunch. 🤣

We canceled our membership in October and we continue to be billed for it. First it was automatic from our bank account and after multiple phone calls and going in twice they stopped billing our bank account and are now billing our Credit card!!! Now we stopped payment from our credit card provider. This place is a scam. Don’t try to cancel. I would give them zero stars if I could!

My experience with the management at Maple Grove Crunch Fitness was extremely disappointing. It's disheartening that someone in a leadership position would display such disrespect towards members. The lack of helpfulness and outright rudeness displayed by the manager Sade Sunderland was unacceptable. His unprofessional behavior made it clear that they have little regard for the well-being of Crunch Fitness members. I hope that in the future, he can reconsider his approach and strive to create a more positive and supportive environment.

Heard some crazy stuff today that they only reserve the nice grips for cables machines for members who use trainers creating a disparity where it shouldn’t exist, literally had a trainer take one of the grips during my workout and said I couldn’t use it, when it was not very busy for once. The gym also needs to work on cleanliness lockers rooms floors and smells are bad would be scared to walk around with sandals, but on a positive note the gym seems pretty modern. I want you guys to be better please.

I have been rather pleased with Crunch Fitness in Maple Grove. Staff have been friendly, locker room is clean, equipment is laid out in a simple easy to navigate way. Sadly you don’t have a pool which is a bummer. I love to swim and can’t use the pool at the Blaine location since it’s closed. Otherwise I enjoy working out here.

Couple things:
I canceled my membership months and months ago, and I continue getting charged even after speaking with the manager (who was little to no help). I am now up to $244 of charges AFTER canceling my membership in July 2023.
As for the gym itself - Cheap memberships and tiny gyms don’t pair well together. Overly crowded with younger kids, so you wait for equipment longer than you actually work out. But it has everything someone would need.

Talk about a great TEAM of people!! It is a great feeling when people get excited when Betty shows up!! (Ms. Betty the Corso is her page of Facebook)
I will not get into details, but the go the extra extra mile for their members. It is sad that it is tough to find good. The folks at Crunch in Maple Grove actually care which is nice. Everyone accepts my service animal across the board!! I will be posting this on her pages too.
Thanks CRUNCH Staff and super extra THANKS to my rehab and recovery Trainer!!! These guys can really help you if you have major injuries and want to do physical therapy but also want to strengthen your injured areas so they do not get hurt again. Reinjured pain is usually even more than to original injury. Take your time and find a trusted and certified rehab trainer. I did and I would tell ya the details... but then you know what happens next! :-)

Best value around. Cheerful greeter; happy, healthy clients; thoughtful trainers. I stretch in the sauna before and foam roll after every workout. I can always find dumbbells in the weights I need & use an exercise ball if all the benches are taken. Keeping a huge gym clean is difficult and important. I see your effort! Thanks, Crunch.

We were fans of Crunch fitness and it seems to be an affordable option, but have found lots of hidden fees. I tried changing my monthly plan to the $9.99/month as advertised. First I made a request on their website and never heard back. Then I went in person and asked to change it, but the manager came and tried to tell us that if I “downgrade” my plan they charge me an addition $75 fee. That’s not a small amount. He went on to explain that this is to enroll me, however I have been a member of this gym for almost a year now and had already paid fees to begin my membership. Also knowing the yearly fee was going to be charged to both my husband and I in a few months, charging us almost $100 to simply change my membership was ridiculous and so disappointing. Watch out for all these hidden fees and read the fine print.

Great gym and atmosphere, but beware of the process of downgrading your membership. They treat it as if you're cancelling your current membership and starting a new one. That means they hit you with another account enrollment fee and won't prorate your current month. As a dedicated member, the practice feels very counter to an establishment that's invested in people's health and well-being, but I suppose it's a reflection of their underlying corporate values.
