I wanted to say thank you to Michael Papas. He made the entire process of signing up easy . He explained everything I needed to know and more. After my experience with Malaika at the Burnsville YMCA, I became discouraged . Michael turned that around and Iβm a grateful heβs a team member !! Thank you !

No day passes available at this facility. I have traveled all over and been to numerous fitness YMCA βs and never have seen where you can pay to use the services. Doesnβt speak much for this Y

I am very happy with the staff at the Y but Iβm very unhappy with the pool open hours. I joined the U because Iβm disabled and am in need of water therapy. The open hours for the pool are not conducive to just coming in and expecting to use the pool facilities. Especially Saturday and Sunday, the hours are very limited if not even open at all. Sundays as a rule the pools are closed all day, on a day when the pool would probably be used the most and Saturday is not much better.
I understand the problem is staffing, but I believe swimming is a huge part of the Y services. I believe the root of the problem is pay not availability. I was a lifeguard as a young man and jobs were impossible to find. I think with appropriate compensation you could have the pick of candidates that were available for hire. Priorities need to be placed ahead of money and give the people a pay rate that will induce candidates to come and work at a great environment. My message is to the owner to please make an effort to keep the pool staffed at all times, instead of making your patrons call to see if the pool is open. Iβve come, changed into appropriate swim wear only to find the pool entrance locked due to staffing shortages. Talk about an irration, and inconvenience. Sorry I just had to express my opinion in what I feel is the most important service the YMCA offers, Other than that problem the Y in my opinion is top notch.

A very nice Y! Everything at this Y is very function driven, not many frills. Thereβs a fitness center, a lap pool, a casual pool, a small sauna in each adult locker room, showers, lockers, and the staff are very friendly. Is it the nicest gym ever? No, but they arenβt charging you like theyβre the nicest gym ever, and they do a lot of community work. You know when you give this gym your membership payment, itβs not going to a faceless corporation, but back into your community. If you need luxury, go to lifetime, if you want an efficient workout and also give back to your community, come here.

We have a membership and use the early childhood center for our preschooler. We love the preschool and will probably continue there, but are looking for a different gym. The customer service both at the Eagan gym and customer service if you call YMCA of the North is complete garbage. If you call customer service, they are rude, uncaring, and completely unhelpful. So just know if you have an issue, you are pretty much on your own. As far as the actual gym, itβs kind if a joke. Their hours compared to other gyms are lacking at best, and then they kick you out early because they want to be locking the doors and everyone out of the gym by 9PM. So you are not actually allowed to use the amenities till 9. Also, the gym childcare is rigid, rude, and no one seems like they want to be there. I donβt feel comfortable leaving my children there. The membership rates are decent, which is why we joined. But it would seem you get what you pay for and we are looking into other options.

Wow the best YMCA Iβve ever been to. The life guard Sam was on his game his entire shift. Very attentive to his surroundings. He even taught me how to do the backstroke in two minutes. Iβve been trying to figure that stroke out for 18 years.
The facility is nice & clean the welcoming, embrace and great attitude of the front desk. Staff is better than Iβve ever seen in any place of business. if this is what Minnesota people are like then this is where I want to call home.

Access for the pool is unreliable and declining; the schedule is inaccurate. The aquatic staff are great when present, but the access isnβt worth what a membership costs if this is your main source of exercise.

The morning child care is terrible, they are supposed to take care of them so that the parents can exercise, but Mr. Mike, who is an elderly person, has no patience with babies, he calls his parents so as not to take care of them, because they have people who don't care. Are they suitable to take care of children?

The gym meets a need but for a family membership the value is declining. The leisure pool hours are very minimal. 4-5pm M-Thurs and then open more on Friday, not open on the weekend. Also childcare hours are limited. Itβs frustrating to have to go to different YMCA gyms for family amenities when this is the closest to my home.

This is a review for youth sports specifically. What was once a well run community program has become absolutely terrible. Poor communication, combining ages in a way that makes zero sense, not even letting parents know how to order jerseys for their kids. The actual coaches are great - they are really in a tough spot so this in no way reflects the coaches. The organization and leadership of the leagues is the problem. Hire a new 3rd party to officiate as well, they are pathetic and confrontational with parents. Half of them seem so hungover or high they can't even pay attention to the games.

I have reached out several times to the administration on this branch about the sauna always being broken and out of order on the weekends to no avail. The lack of concern making sure the facility is regularly maintained and fully functional makes this YMCA branch impossible to recommend.

The facility is a not a safe place. The equipment and the safety are not worth he price tag. Not only does my girlfriend feel uncomfortable at this location, but I was harassed by another member in the locker room. I reported it to the staff. The staff told me that it is a "he said she said situation" and told me that if I don't like the gym, I can cancel my membership. So if you want sub par equipment and harassment, then this is the place for you.

They never keep current hours. They open the pool when they feel like it, but don't bother posting a sign at the front desk it's closed. You waste your time driving across town and then get changed only to be locked out of the pool area. You don't get any value for your membership fee anymore.

Wanted to share our experience of the swimming lessons at the YMCA in Eagan. I left a voicemail and emailed Jordyn A, the director of the swimming program back on 3/6/2020 and followed up on 5/19/2020. I never did receive a response. Below is what I sent her...
The swim instructor (didn't get her name) said she would be talking to her boss about our situation last night, and someone would be contacting me about switching the kids into an appropriate level. I've already requested a refund with the front desk, but honestly, it has very little to do with the money. Below is a summary of what happened from my perspective. Not sure if there is anything you can actually do to make this better, but thought you needed to know. Our kids names are X and Z.
_________________________________________
I couldn't sleep last night. My husband couldn't sleep. My 4 year old daughter woke up from her first nightmare, begging me to never leave her. I'm still struggling.
My kids, 4 & 6 have been in swimming lessons since before they could walk. My daughter has advanced into a level beyond her age group at Wise Swim School, JD-1 (ages 5+). My son is physically stronger/taller, but hasn't had the motivation to advance yet into a higher level beyond JD-2. To try something new & save a few bucks, I signed the kids up for lessons at the YMCA in Eagan. They've never been, so I selected the class level online based on the description of what they do at Wise, Beginning Strokes (ages 4-12). Their first lesson was last night (3/5/2020) and since it's on my way home, I came from work and arrived just a few minutes after they started. As I pulled into the parking lot, I got a text from my husband saying..."Our daughter almost f*cking drowned!"
I found my way to the pool and saw my husband sweating and very disturbed. Thinking maybe he's overreacting, I sat down and asked him if everything was okay? (Clearly he was not okay.)
A few minutes later, in a class of only 3 kids (2 are mine), I witness a middle aged woman refusing to smile telling my excited kids to swim front stroke, and switch to back stroke... across the Olympic size pool to the opposite end. I'm like... wait what? The kids are smiling, having a blast and I see my daughter try. Moments later, not only was the instructor no longer watching, but neither was either of the high school lifeguards on duty. At this point, half way across the pool, my daughter had stopped swimming...gulping water, reaching up for the lane divider and gasping for air. She LOVES swimming and didn't seem too scared, but both my husband & I damn near jumped in the pool to grab her. This mama bear immediately walked over to the other end of the pool & yelled to the instructor that clearly the kids cannot do what you're asking of them and need to be in a lower age appropriate class!?! She responded... "Oh, yeah, I was going to talk to you after the class." I didn't say it, but was literally thinking... "Oh, is that before or after the paramedics are called!?!"
With my heart pounding, I immediately went to the front desk and asked for whomever is in charge of the swimming program. The swim director was named was Jordyn A. and she was unavailable at the moment. They handed me her card and said to get in contact her the following day. They looked into switching them into a lower class, but everything was full. Still shaking, I just asked for a refund, left my phone number and asked to have the director contact me.
Swim instructors & lifeguards have like one job - to teach and/or to keep our children safe. If the child SAYS they don't know what you're asking of them, and clearly cannot do the task without help, why would you continue to push it when their physical safety is in jeopardy?
________________________________
Even 18 months later, the feeling of anger, guilt & fear still linger from that first day of swimming lessons at the YMCA in Eagan. Hopefully those two employees involved have moved on to other jobs/positions. But, if not, consider yourself warned.

This was my first time back to the YMCA since the covid-19 situation began in March. I was very happy to see that precautions are being taken there, people are wearing masks, and there is social distancing. I hope this continues. Note that their hours are currently changed. They are not open on Sundays, for now. Also, we received calls from a membership person now and then during recent months just to check how we are doing. We appreciated that.

Took my 6 YO son to this location for swim lessons, and here is my final feedback:
- Trainers: (4 stars) They were far better than the community lessons.
- Facilities (2 star) Locker rooms were kind of gross/dirty. This is specific to the family locker room.
- Pool (3 star) The pools are nice, but spectating is difficult being inside the pool area.
- Staff (3 star) Front desk always friendly/helpful, but the long-haired lifeguard dude is a real piece of work. Kept asking about wristbands after we finished lessons and my son wanted to warm up in the kiddie pool. I'm sure he's a decent lifeguard, but he sucks at human interaction. We won't be returning because of some unnecessary negative interactions with this guy. Try explaining things in a non-confrontational way, buddy.

I come here for the free weight equipment. The equipment is just a few months old but it doesn't look like it has ever been cleaned and some if the barbells have already been bent. If they won't clean the equipment themselves they should leave better cleaner out so we can clean it ourselves. Staph infections are preventable.

Terrifying experience, I registered my child In the beginning of the fall. She was really happy at the first week. She is very social and likes to play with other kids even if she met them for the first time. In the second week she got sick and stayed home for the whole week. In the third week she was crying every day when I drop her off. In the same week on Thursday I dropped her off, she cried more than the previous day. I left her because I thought nothing wrong, but when the child cray that much there should be something wrong. I picked her up early and I noticed her face looks tired, but the teacher said that she was crying all day. At home, she said my nick hurt. I asked her who hurt your nick. She said teacher hit my nick. I asked her many times teacher or friend. She replayed teacher. I just was shocked! Iβve talked to the manager and she told me she will talk to the teachers and the teachers denied. I βve also contact the customer service and they said they will contact the manager, and nothing happened after that. Unforcefully, I have no proof, but I believe my daughter because kids in that age donβt lie. I'll never take my daughter again to this daycare or any other branch of this organization. Never ever!

Really friendly staff but someone needs to monitor the gym. Kids are constantly bringing soda and Gatorade in and spilling it. The gym also has like 4 dead spots where you can't shoot from because of the track overhead, really poor planning. Otherwise it's a good spot for kids and family alike.

The facility is well maintained and staff (front desk, child care) is pleasant and very professional. Michelle in the fitness center provided me with an excellent orientation, she took the time to learn about me and my health drivers and objectives. She tailored a custom workout that is aligned with my fitness objectives. I truly look forward to working out and receiving direction and guidance from Michelle to achieve my fitness goal.
