Was at the Elk River YMCA for some lap swimming yesterday 10/29/25 afternoon approximately 4 pm. The pool schedule says 4 lanes open for lap swimmers until 4:55 as I recall. There were walkers in lane one, two good swimmers in each lanes 2 and 3. Lane 4 had a younger male lap swimmer. I approached the lane 4 single swimmer about sharing his lane with me. He told me he was on the YMCA swim team and he doesn't have to share his lane. He said pool management told him this. I have swam at pools for 20 years now and Never before has this happened. I have seen the other reviews about pool management out of control. I have also seen pool staff and management be very rude to other lap swimmers for no reason. I now have my own first hand experience with their disrespect. I have to say things need to change in pool management and their attitude and disrespect toward dues paying members. Why is YMCA SR. Management letting pool staff treat guests this way?

I've been a member at the Elk River YMCA for approx 10 years except for some time off during Covid. Nice enough place. Grumpy lady at the front desk but she gets the job done. Some great people at the front desk also. Way Too expensive compared to friends of mine at YMCA's in other cities. I have a good friend in Madison WI who pays approx. half what we have to and it's a nicer facility (I've been there). Upstairs area is good and I have no complaints. Classes have been good and mostly fun. Pool area is clean but pool staff is very unfriendly and kind of High School Cliquey. They are often rude and never friendly. I have seen the guards yell at kids and adults for no reason. They close down half the lap swim lanes 20 minutes before 4 lanes of lap swimming ends according to their published schedule. There is no lap swim times available in the evenings during the week. That does not seem right. Most of us work during the days on workdays and can't get there before because of other responsibilities. Locker rooms are clean and no complaints. They have work to do in the pool area but otherwise it's an ok place.

Front desk is awful! Definitely not a poc friendly place either or inclusive of others. Will make you show your ID everytime even when they know you and have your card. Never has this ever occurred at other YMCA. Outdated gym and equipment. Pricey for what you get

I've been a member at the Elk River YMCA since they opened almost 19 Years ago. Mostly it's been a good place to stay healthy. They have a small 4 lane pool. I need to swim because I have developed Multi Myeloma (terminal cancer) and my Arthritus is out of control plus all my organs are failing. I have only so long to live. A little afternoon lap swimming is a lifeline for me. I try to swim some laps in later afternoon when my wife and I can go together. But the last couple years the Elk River YMCA pool coordinator has decided he only cares about the swim classes and his swim team. As one example he is closing two lanes before classes begin for 20 Minutes. Sending lap swimmers away. My goodness two of 4 lanes during prime time closed for 20 minutes. Nothing happening. He sends his 16 -17 year old female lifeguards over there to kick dues paying members out of these lanes 15 to 20 before lessons start. So many of these swimmers are so mad and can't believe it. Swimmers are all forced into one Lane or simply leave in disappointment. Most leave confused and disappointed because we can't all fit in one lane. These two lanes sit empty during Prime time for 20 minutes because it satisfies some sick war he is waging against dues paying members trying to get a few laps in before going home for the evening. I could go on about all the efforts this guy has made to restrict and limit lap swimming hours. I don't get it. Many times, the classes include only one or two swimmers, and they mostly sit and visit with coaches and never really use the lanes. Lap swimmers waiting in the sauna or hot tub for lanes to open up. Plenty of space in the other side of the pool area for this type of lessons. Yet they never open the lanes back up for waiting lap swimmers. Why do they have to schedule multiple lessons at this prime time. Why not stagger them. I have spent a lifetime managing resources to optimize profits. This behavior would be absolutely unacceptable. I'm writing this review because I know of two other lap swimmers who have tried to talk to "management" about this problem and nothing has changed. I have been swimming at pools my whole life and never have I had to deal with a pool coordinator so disrespectful to lap swimmers. He needs to find another way to make a living or realize it's not all about him. Ready to leave the YMCA in Elk River unless something changes. I would Give Zero stars if I could. So hurt and disappointed.

Was denied access with my two children today from a lady at the front desk. Lady with glasses and pony tail couldnβt/wouldnβt give us a reason. Stated βsomething with our systemβ after we drove 30 min. I donβt know about other parents , but itβs terrible to get kids excited and drive 30 min and then say you canβt go.. with no reason as to why.

We have had a family membership on and off since 2016. We utilize the pool, splash pad, family locker room, childcare, fitness center, tables/gathering area, sauna and gymnasium. Our homeschool student participates in gym class here once a week and very much so looks forward to it! Facility is always very clean. The locker rooms are what seems like frigid when getting out of the pool.

The front desk staff at this location are absolutely awful. I stopped in to inquire about membership and was met with someone who could not have been more irritated that I was there interrupting his day. The whole thing is just a hard sell by anyone you encounter which is super off-putting. Because of the cost of the membership I was considering, I asked if there was a trial option. Before I could even get my question out heβs nodding emphatically and saying βNOPE!β. Then said sarcastically that I could either sign up right now or move to Elk River (to get the resident pass). Seriously? He then offered to give us a tour, essentially running through the building, then I asked if there was a sales person we could meet with. He said he wasnβt sure if he would even be available or able to meet with us. I waited for about ten minutes then left. Did the other person at the desk say ANYTHING? No. I will absolutely never spend my money on a membership for this place. I canβt believe this is an acceptable interaction between front desk staff and potential members, or anyone for that matter. Wonβt be back - no way am I willing to be treated that way. I would say donβt even bother.

STAFF were very mean and extremely rude. They use most of the pool for swim classes and members are left with a very very small section which is too deep for kids. The lifeguard was extremely rude and yelling at the kids, he was swearing a grinding his teeth at one point because the kids touch the partial and the very small space they had to play. . Sensing a bit of racism. They demanded ID and photo even though we are all registered members with our key cards. Definitely the worst experience at this location.

For the amount they charge the the amount of people that go there, the lifting section is WAY to small. It's probably the smallest lifting section of all the Elk River gyms which stinks because its also the only basketball court around

I have been a member of the Elk River YMCA for many years. But at the end of this month I will no longer be. I love to swim. Thatβs a big reason I joined the Y versus the other clubs with no swimming pool. But over the last year or so I have found myself unable to use the pool when I go. The YMCA subcontracted the pool to the elk River high school swim team. Donβt get me wrong Iβm all for helping the kids but not at the expense of the dues paying members. The swim team gets the pool from 5:00 pm to close every Monday Wednesday and Friday. This goes on for months at a time. I work during the week so I canβt come that early. I have talked to YMCA management about my concerns and even offered solutions - like leave one lane open or have the swim team be done a half hour before close but I get blown off or ignored. I even asked the swim team once if I could use one lane for 15 minutes. There was plenty of room but all I got was an arrogant βnope we are using the pool. I pay dues there! Or at least I was. I should be able to use what Iβm paying for. But they donβt care. I donβt think Iβm being unreasonable here. So Iβm done. Itβs too bad too because itβs close to my house and it was a nice place.

No organization of weights I find myself reorganizing weights every session. Thereβs 45s where 10s should be.
Also people horde the dumbbells like they own them.
Letβs have more accountability, put weights back in between sets so others can use them. They arenβt going anywhere.

After talking with the manager, I do understand why do the staffs lack of customer services. They tend to defense instead of caring their customers. Per their policy that I didnβt know before, they require everyone show their ID whenever they go to the center. Today is my second day going with my daughter to her swimming class. From my first time yesterday I knew I would need to show my ID if I drop my kid off. But I am going with my family, not dropping off my kid by myself. It was fine yesterday that I thought either of us had an ID were good. Today my husband did show his ID but I didnβt have my ID with me. I was SEPARATED from my family to watch her class from the window (until I could show my ID in phone fortunately, when the class was almost ended). We asked if I could go for only this time but I was refused. The manager thinks itβs fine that my husband can help my 5 year old daughter for the shower and tried to say they are doing the right security things. She may think it would be better to follow their policy to reduce their risk of whatever than care about the families. I tried to explain that I am willing to follow the policy if I know it, and being flexible is needed. Do I look harmful for people in the center? She just tried to talk about the security things to protect people there. I am a mom going with my family that showing the ID would help on something? The manager just tried to convince me they are doing the right things and I should follow their policy. Itβs the only swimming center I have known that has this policy like that. Would other centers be unsecured? Itβs not the staffsβ issue under the unfriendly management style.

I went and got my grandma to take me and my friend to play basketball and the people at the desk had poor attitudes and they would not let us in I have a member to get in, no guess passes they wouldnβt take five dollars to get my friend in with me hectic and a member and we had to just turn around and go home. This place is not good the people behind the desk are rude. And the new rules are terrible they donβt even inform you that your not able to come in unless your a member where is it? If I could give this establishment a 0 I would! They put the account for my son and I under my ex husband, then, when I cancelled, they didn't cancel for my son. They charged me each month for 4 months until I realized they were doing this. When I called to find out why, I was put on hold SEVERAL times. They would cut me off and put me on hold before I was even done speaking. I heard the gal tell one of the other representatives they wanted to hang up on me. Do yourself a favor and go to SNAP or Anytime. Much better service and the facilities are actually usable.

Really nice facility. Well cared for and seems fairly new because of it (maybe it is new, don't know when it was built). They have a nice zero entry pool an indoor waterslide and some water features, check the schedule to find out when they run them. They also have an outdoor splash pad. It is a one level splash pad, so accessible to anyone. They have a nice lap pool, and it's all one depth, so a good pool to teach young swimmers how to swim.
Good variety of workout equipment, too. Many overlook the pool or the parking lot.

YMCA Core Values: Caring: to demonstrate a sincere concern for others, for their needs and well-being.
Would only take a cancellation letter (I explained I have needs and would not able to come in and provide one but I could fax it) I was told the only way was to come in person, reference core values.
Ya, your policy changed just this week and you will now cancel memberships over the phone.
Refused to refund any membership fees even though I had never set foot inside the facility due to my well-being becoming compromised.
