Instructors are always changing, it’s expensive and their cancellation policy is asinine. Their baby classes are the same every week. And after about 4 weeks it’s not worth it. You’re better off taking what you learned from those classes and practicing them with your baby at a local pool for way cheaper. Ownership and management is sketchy. They pay their staff less than other places like Foss, SwimPossible and even the Y (info easily verified by looking at job postings). No wonder they can’t keep instructors around.

We've been coming here for 3 years now and to see the progress our little has made, makes me smile from ear to ear. He started out in the basic program and set a goal of being part of Swim Force.

He worked very hard to get there and along the way has had some pretty awesome and amazing coaches. Seeing your kid put in the work and remembering a time when they were afraid to put their face in the water, to now seeing him having all sorts of fun and doing all different types of swim styles is simply awesome.

We have been going to Goldfish now since both my kids were 4 months (almost 5 and 1.5 now). I chose Goldfish over the other swim school in the area because of the continuous enrollment instead of classes done by terms. I found the advantage to be that your child progress at their own pace, instead of it being based on age or how many semesters they have been there. There isn't also that fear of losing that class time that works well for you each term.
I also chose them because they start kiddos swimming without parents at 2 where as the other school started at 3. I love my time in the pool with the kids, but I also want them to gain independence (and have less to pack) sooner. My eldest had a really hard time separating from me. At no point did they make it an issue, in fact they told me how normal it was. They did a wonderful job helping him feel secure in that transition.
They have also been incredibly accommodating and easy to work with around scheduling. When our youngest started I was really worried about trying to find a time that would work for both kids. They went out of their way to create a new mini class so that my kids could have a lesson at the same time.
My only critique, and I went back and forth on if this made me want to take a star off, is the lack of consistency in their teaching staff. Now I have worked in a similar job with a similar job pool, so I get that many of their teachers aren't going to stay around for a very long time. However, especially at the mini level, there has been very little consistency as to who the teacher is and the quality of the teacher. We had one absolutely fantastic teacher for about 3 weeks, we even reached out to praise how great he was, and then he was gone. The mini teachers, in both times I've done the program, are usually good at giving directions but then don't know what else to do. The advantage to the program is that at this point we know how to do everything, so we pretty much just do the exercises ourselves. I can't speak to the other programs, but I will say that my eldest has had more consistency at the older level and has generally had better teachers. Recently (end of 2024 start of 2025) there seems to have been some changes in staffing. I have had three incidents where the teacher wasn't at the lesson within a month or so, which never happened in the 4+ years we have been there. My one point of growth for them would be maybe a bit more staff training and working on retention. They have a great program and wonderful staff, but I think there is room to tighten up a bit and ways to help staff engage with kiddos, especially the very young ones.
The space is always clean, the pool is always warm, and the staff is always welcoming. I have seen my friends who have done swim lessons only during the winter because "they will use the pool every day" in the summer, or that sign up for a term then forget the next time around. Their kids have some water safety and swim skills. However, I see in my children that deep muscle memory and ingrained routines of how to stay safe around water because they go to year round swim lessons. Swimming in the land of 10,000 lakes should be something everyone learns to do safely. I am so glad that Goldfish provides such a wonderful place to learn.

This business really cares about their customers and you could tell each person who works here loves what they do. Goldfish Swim is a great place for your child/children learn to swim. Both of my girls have taken lessons and they love it. Between my girls we have had many instructors. We have always been treated with respect and every person we have spoken with from managers on down has been friendly and eager to help. My girls love to tell people about Goldfish Swim when people see them wearing their gold Goldfish Swim shirts. My youngest who is four tells everyone that someday " I am going to be a swim teacher at Goldfish Swim. I Love it." I believe that is the best compliment that Goldfish can get. Everyone is fabulous and we are so happy to go there. Three of my kids started at goldfish about a year ago and have improved significantly. The instructors are consistently good, and it is fun to watch the kids advance at their own pace. Kalia in particular is wonderful, and my boys have so much fun with her.

My daughter has been at this location for over half a year and through several instructors. By far, the best instructor is ISA. He is patient, supportive, and always full of positive energy. My daughter cried when she advanced to the next level knowing he will no longer be her instructor.

Anthony is a great swim instructor for my 4 year old. We've had 5 lessons and my son is getting more confident each time. I especially appreciate that at the end of the lesson he has each student choose a skill to show off to their parent.

We have been extremely satisfied at Goldfish. Our 3 yo with no swim lesson experience started end of April and she has progressed in her stills beyond what I imagined. I love the perpetual lessons so she can advance as she is ready instead of being stuck in a class for months until the next level. Cannot recommend enough!!!

I love Goldfish swim school in Oakdale! I thought I would prefer Foss because it appeared more structured and regimented but Goldfish really surprised me. They make the lessons SO fun for the kids, but really move them through the steps of learning safety and skills, while always empowering them and instilling trust in the teachers and confidence in themselves. While the fun décor has really grown on me, the STAFF are what have earned my family’s loyalty! Leroy (the manager?) remembered the names of my daughter and her friend after several months away. The instructors, both during our summer class and now on weeknights, are ALWAYS very friendly, warm, and encouraging. Can’t say enough about the program. My daughter listens to the instructors WAY better than she does me and her skill has skyrocketed since starting. It’s expensive but SO WORTH IT. Only complaint is the candy at the front desk. It’s already witching hour and the kids are hungry after swimming, WHY do you do this to us parents? ;-)

It seems membership has picked up and Covid restrictions have now been lifted. There appears to be longer wait times when kids get promoted to a new class for them to join that class. These wait times sometimes nearing a month. Not sure if this implies they are nearing or at their max for membership or not.

Seems like a great place, a decent yet safe amount of kids per instructor & plenty of seating for family... The only thing I think they need is perhaps more activity stations for non-participating kids while in the observation area.

Staff and teachers are wonderful to work with. My kids love it. I really appreciate that once my kids learn skills in a certain level they move on. We were at Foss but if you didn’t master the skills you would repeat the entire level but possibly could master the missing skill in week 2 thus wasting time and money. Goldfish has a great setup for success.

My daughter participated in lessons for several months. When I attempted to provide a 30 day notice, Goldfish immediately dropped her from the class and replaced her. Since the class was now full, she was unable to participate, despite us paying for the entirety of the month. I have been attempting to get a refund for the classes she was dropped from, but unfortunately, the general manager (who is the only person authorized to give refunds) has not returnes any of my calls for approximately 3 weeks now.
