I had a great experience training at GYM! The atmosphere is welcoming and never intimidating thanks to its smaller size and super friendly vibe. John (the trainer) is always encouraging and easy going. He goes out of his way to offer help—even if you’re not in a one-on-one session, he's happy to check your form or answer questions. Other members are just as friendly, so you never feel like you're working out alone. This gym does offer 24-hour access and the shower facilities—Highly recommend if you're looking for a supportive and approachable place to train!

At 79, I felt the need to take steps to improve my strength and balance if I wanted to continue to be active, play golf, bike, and feel safe in my own home. Having not been to a gym before, I looked for personal training so that I could exercise with supervision and ensure that I was doing proper and safe activities. I found John at G.Y.M. and the experience has been great. I like John's training guidance as well as the relaxed friendly atmosphere of this smaller space. After 3 months, I can feel the increase in strength and significantly improved balance. I have also met some nice people. I've been a runner most of my life and have tried countless classes, fitness centers, and boot camps in search of the right strength training program for me. The GYM has been great. Small local gym that knows exactly what it wants to be. Doesn't have the bells and whistles of a big chain, but it doesn't have the predatory contracts and high-pressure staff either. I've been working out with John for just over 3 months. I'm not looking to get shredded or lose 50 lbs. I'm an older dad and just want to be healthy for my girls.

After 3 months, I'm lifting between 50% and 100% heavier weights than when I first started. And I can feel myself getting stronger. It's motivating to see the results.

I've belonged to other gyms with other personal trainers and haven't had success. As a result, I didn't stick with it. But at the GYM, I look forward to my workouts

Me: Inexperienced, occasional gym-goer who always wanted to love the gym, but never felt comfortable there. I didn’t know how to correctly lift weights, so I kept to the easier machines.

G.Y.M. and owner/trainer, John, solve all of that! The non-contract, month to month membership includes 1 personal training session each month, and you can always purchase more sessions. So I am learning how to correctly lift weights, the same as everyone else. G.Y.M. uses a training and tracking app to guide you during times you are working out on your own. And… the app includes videos to show you how the stretches and exercises are correctly done! Other Members have been wonderful… friendly and helpful. Everyone I have met has been so supportive, I believe, because we are trained in the same way, tracking using the same tools, all to reach our own unique goals. It feels great to have finally found my gym home!

This gym is for me and might be for you if you are into:
1. Community. You will have conversations with people in the gym. We all talk to each other… even the people with headphones on.
2. Accountability. John will push you but isn’t pushy. The community will encourage you and ask where you are if you miss too many times.
3. Getting what you pay for. This is not the cheapest gym around but you get what you pay for. Your health and future are valuable. Also this is way cheaper than diabetes, heart surgery, and high blood pressure. So… choose now who you are going to pay because you’re going to pay someone eventually.
4. Trust. We all have to trust each other on many levels. You need to be trust worthy as well. This relates to #1 (community).

There you go. If you’re not up for any of those 4 things then this might not be the place for you. But if you are… give something different a try. The other places you’ve gone too clearly aren’t working well or you would be reading the reviews for this G.Y.M. 😉

John at G.Y.M is the real deal. As a natural pro bodybuilder, I’ve always carried a bit of pride trying to do things myself on my fitness journey.

I came to St.Paul for school. I landed in a hotel with no equipment it was truly sad. I found G.Y.M with in walking distance and was thrilled. I was only in town for ten days and was able to arrange with the own a payment for my time there. It was clean, had all the equipment needed, very private if your an early bird like I am. Beware , if you go to this GYM talking about your “reps” and how much protein you’ve eaten will become your whole personality.
Kidding, honestly , I love this gym and I’m glad I found it! It’s small and cozy and you get to know the people you work out with. John is helpful, nonjudgmental and available for what you need . My experience with fitness is that I get bored easily. I like trying new things and new trends to keep my body moving but I never see any success. Working with John, I have found a routine that I can do even with my overly busy schedule. I have someone to hold me accountable and a training plan I can follow that makes sense. By far the best decision I have ever made in terms of health and wellness for setting up an appointment with john when we met 6 weeks ago.
Here is why I am saying that. I have never ever work it out consistently in my life. Here and there, I went to a gym and maybe lifted weights once in a blue moon. At least I used to play Football (what in USA is called Soccer) often. However, for the past 7 years I didn't play any sports, nor did I go to the gym due to injuring myself whenever I played football; this led to me becoming slower and slower as the days go by. Days changed into weeks, then months, then years. Before I even knew it, I found myself not being able to take the stairs without chest and knee pain. In the meantime, I was eating anything that is categorized as unhealthy as you can think of. I gained few pounds. however, that wasn't my biggest concern. My biggest concern was as a 32 years old man, my healthy was declining rapidly. I was on the negative side of all my poor unhealthy choices/decisions and the negative compound effects had started.
As a new dad of 5 months old baby at the time (Now he is 6 months and half today), Once and for all, I decided to commit to change my life and get healthy and develop healthy habits. In my personal experience, I knew that motivation and will power is temporary feeling and they don't last that long which is why new year resolutions fail all the time. I have decided to find someone who an expert of fitness and wellness. I called couple places and we didn't connect. the 2nd day, I connected with John and we scheduled a phone session. I really liked how polite he was, and I could feel how he loves what he does. I wanted to sign up right away, but he said that we should schedule a workout session so I can check it out before I commit into anything. he said he will coach me and provide all the tools that I need to accomplish my own personal goal, but without commitment and work ethic from myside it will not happen. Honestly, that impressed me more than anything else. Here I was talking to someone who loves what does and have Integrity. He didn't just encouraged he was honest with me from that first call of what it will take to accomplish my goals.
After my first session of training with him, I signed up and became a member of GYM (or as we call it, GYM family). we set up a game plan of what of Nutrition, Hydration, and workouts which based on my own PACE. He shared nutrition information that blew my mind away which is completely different than what I have ever heard or knew. That led to me learning and reading books about nutrition because I enjoy reading and learning new information. within 2 weeks, I was able to work out 3-4 days a week. My nutrition intake have changed completely. I was able to go back to playing football (soccer). I have played about 30 minutes. I didn't have any injury or pain after the game due to mobility exercises John had shared with me to do daily specially before any training exercises or playing any sports and after. week 3, I was able to work out 4 days a week and play football (soccer) for 1 hour without any pain or injuries. Week 4, I played my first 2-hour indoor football (soccer) game for more than 10 years. I felt great and I had no injuries or pain. at the same time do my 4 days a week workout session (or as John calls it Is training sessions). week 5, I had more energy than I have ever had in my life. My life has completely changed for the better. My lifestyle is different. I eat delicious meals that have the right nutrition that my body needs. I am wearing clothes that I couldn't wear for years.
Thank you John for being who you are as a person and as a coach. I am grateful to you and all that you taught me for this short period of time.
This is my 6th week, and I will 100% recommend to anyone who is serious about health and fitness to G.Y.M. John put together a proven program that works. but you have to do your part. If you are serious about changing your fitness health and overall wellness, this is your place.

I went to this gym close by my home because my doctor ordered me to get some exercise and suggested that I lift some weights. I have worked as a hairstylist 41 years. I have stood 8-12 hours a day behind the chair. I had muscle cramps daily in my ribs and my legs. My back and shoulder muscles were so tight I could hardly lie flat on the floor. I just went to the gym because I wanted to feel better and be more flexible.
THEN.. I met John the trainer of this
G.Y.M. (Get Yourself Moving)
I went 3 days a week. Slowly he walked me through the process of stretching to see what I could do. I was tight everywhere and fearful of doing squats because of the pain it caused my knee. I could not even do core exercises for the first 3 months because of constant muscle spasms.
But. John coached me along to try squats a different way that did not hurt my knee. I started lifting weights and slowly I began to feel better. It has been almost 5 months and I am lifting weights and finally able to do core exercises without all the muscle spasms. Recently I discovered the true benefits of the foam roller that broke up the scar tissue in my bad knee. My fears of my knee getting worse by exercise was not true. The fact is my knee was getting worse because I was doing nothing. I was protecting it because of my job. I hardly have pain in that knee anymore since I started to work out. I am not a person who goes to the gym, but I have to say what John has done for me feels like a miracle.

I've been coming to G.Y.M. for a little over a year, working mainly on strength training while I'm there. They also provide solid nutritional advice. John and Madelyn are both awesome trainers! They push me to work hard without being intimidating or condescending. The other members are also very encouraging. My strength and form have improved significantly since I started. A side benefit is I've felt improvement with chronic back pain (I believe in large part because my core is stronger than it was before I started).

The GYM is a great place to shake bad habits and get yourself into the shape that you've been wanting to. When I started there I felt so daunted by the thought of going to a gym and being out of shape. They helped me with my diet, lifting techniques, and overall body image and thoughts about myself. John has a dream for a different, personalized way of training and living. The hours ended up not working with my schedule (I work overnights and long shifts) so ultimately after 8 months of training I am going another direction. Im honestly so happy I found this place. I’m only two weeks in and I can already tell a difference. I have been pleased to call Get Yourself Moving my 'GYM' for 10 months.
Every time I come through the door I am greeted with a smile and I hear 'nice to see you' or 'let's get to work!' The trainers at Get Yourself Moving are passionate about nutrition and physical strength but the cool part is that they are genuinely invested in finding the nutrition and the physical strength that is right for me. And their efforts continue as they partner with me to adjust as needed. The clients and the trainers at Get Yourself Moving are invested in each other. It's awesome to hear 'great job, nice work, you're crushing it, you can do one more!' The camaraderie is infectious. It has made me want to work hard, then come back and do it all over again the next day, and then I see myself getting stronger and more toned, other people see it too and then I like the way it makes me feel physically and emotionally. I had been driving past this place for the last year and wondered what it was all about...but my complacency in my own fitness goals had made me hesitant to check it out. But then, I made a decision to put myself first-ish...at least closer to my top priorities next to my family and work...and took John up on the 6-week challenge! Haven't looked back since! About a week ago I reached out to GYM regarding a promo for a 6 week free challenge on Facebook. I've been working out 5x a week and managing my food through another program, and I was looking to possibly switch things up a bit. Although I will be the first to admit, my weight has been a life long struggle, I have always continued to try and find programs, trainers and gyms that fit my life and needs. I've been a member at 5 different metro big box gyms, multiple smaller format group workout style gyms and multiple ways of eating.

I was excited because the location is convenient and upon walking into GYM, it is a nice and new space. John and the team seem very knowledgeable regarding diet and excercise. The program seemed to be very in depth and personal, which would explain the success of the clients they share in their testimonials. I think the services they offer, with their knowledge would set people up for success... however...

Upon reviewing the "contract" for the challenge, you are then told there is a $599 "deposit", so that you have some skin in the game. The "deposit" will be applied over time to future services after you complete the challenge. This right away turned me off, because how do I know this will be a good fit for me and I will want to continue down the road? Also (although he agreed to waive this for me) there is a requirement for social media check ins. I dont post about my health and wellness much on my social media and I wasnt really interested in doing it going forward.

So did I really think I'd get 6 weeks of training for free, your wondering? No, I figured that I'd work hard, and per their Facebook ad, be used as marketing/testimonials for them. And if it was a good fit, I would continue and pay for the services going forward. Especially since it is also part of the contract that you agree to be used for marketing.

Regardless of these and a few other little red flags, I really did like the idea of the workouts, so I was interested in continuing and set an Apr start date to transition out of the other services I was paying for. That night I went home to discuss with my boyfriend and we talked about my concerns and thoughts. After the conversation, I decided it wasnt right for me, right now. The next morning, I sent the attached text to John... and I did not at all expect the unprofessional and condescending message I recieved back, also attached.

This is so uncalled for and disgusting to talk to someone this way. I said right now... thinking at some point I might want to engage with their level of service... but after this response, I can't help but feel I dodged a bullet and glad I went with my gut feelings. I am glad I am mentally in a place that this doesnt send me down some self loathing, defeated mode... but the reason I decided to write a review, is to put it out there, in case someone else is not.

I'm giving them 2 stars because I think they know their stuff when it comes to diet and excercise. However, due to the deceptive marketing and the response I received, I would not patronize this business.

The atmosphere is very comfortable, workouts have simple to follow guidelines and the trainers are very helpful. If you are looking for a place to get into shape with consistent encouragement/motivation this is definitely the gym for you. I felt great walking out from the workouts and didn’t feel pressured to push myself to ‘injury’ like some lifting gyms.
