I really want to rate LAF higher than a three because it’s a great chain of clubs. The problem is that in the past year, the pool/hot tub amenities are constantly broken. I use many clubs in the area- WSP, Apple Valley, Richfield, and St. Louis Park and the spa is almost always down for repairs. Richfield has been down from about January to at least September (the last time I was there) and I keep getting different excuses as to why it isn’t fixed.

I’ve been told everything from vendor changes to parts unavailability to increased tariffs. I’ve been a member since 2009 and this never happened before 2025. Before this, if it was broken it would be working with a week. Now it’s so common that they don’t even put up a sign anymore- apathy has set in and it’s just expected.

My two friends and I all signed up for the same gym, in the same week, with the exact same plan — yet we were all charged completely different prices. One of my friends was charged $109 (just the due amount and first and last payment), the second was charged $189, and I was charged $270. It doesn’t make sense that three people signing up for the same plan at the same time would be charged three different amounts. When I tried to get clarification, there was never a manager available to speak with. I’m sharing this so others can be careful when signing up with LA Fitness. They’re very inconsistent with their pricing and transparency, and it’s frustrating not being able to get straight answers.

The staff members all seem to be insanely disrespectful. When a problem rises and you try to communicate with them, they all just sit there and smirk like it’s funny that there’s a problem? I know a couple people who have had issues with the employees at this specific location being rude to them, so it’s an ongoing issue. My advice is to just travel a little further and avoid this LA fitness.

Came here with a group of friends because they have a membership here. Signed up for a "free 7 day guest" and the people in front wanted me to sign up for a personal trainer or pay for entrance. Super persistent in continuing with the personal trainer or paying. Luckily Im only here for a few days but I've never been to a facility that doesn't honor their deal and tries to push something else. Sounded like a scam in all honestly.

Gym is way too crowded and weights go missing occasionally, along with a lot of kids missing basic gym etiquette for sure. Not a 1 star experience for me though the staff have been nice to me and the equipment stays functional. The cleaning staff also clearly care it’s really clean for how busy it is with high schoolers. I think the floor could use a redesign of layout. It’s not the worst but the space could be used a bit better and some of the machines don’t make sense for the space and use cases. Good for a gym rat and honestly bad for a new goer it will be a little tough to start out in such a cramped environment.
Update: cancelling my membership online was shockingly simple 5 minute process, contrary to what people say it really wasn’t that bad. Gym is still very overcrowded I would say if u don’t like being in a tight environment this will not be a good place for you.

Good, affordable gym. Small complaint: not enough clips for the barbells. Constantly unable to find clips when benching or squatting. Having a dozen or more barbells is great, but seemingly short a few sets of clips. Especially annoying during busy periods. Could easily be resolved by purchasing another 10 or so sets of clips.

confused by the new rule about guest access being restricted after 7pm, why this was implemented and how it benefits anyone? this new sign claims that this has been in effect since july which is just not true, and the first time i've seen this sign up was after labor day. very strange and pointless and shady. this is a sudden rule change for a paid service with absolutely zero notice in app or on paper via signage. i personally haven't had an issue with this but i saw the sign for the first time this past wednesday and find it to be a bad business practice.

they are also falling behind on updating their app for cancellations. multiple times this last week a class was cancelled with little to no warning.

there are a lot of people paying good money in membership and annual fees to this place and i don't get the feeling that this business respects its clientele.

I’ve been a member here for over six years now and witnessed this place going downhill. Equipment is often worn out and broken, place is always dirty with puddles of water and trash leaking onto floor. Today (09/02/25) however was my worst experience.

The front desk staff denied us entry and said no guests after 7pm. Guest access, their own account option, and something I’ve paid extra for ever since I started my membership, suddenly has this new rule. He claimed it took effect about a month ago and pointed to a sign on the desk, yet I come here 2-3 times a week and never had this issue. Also, this is the first time I’ve ever seen this sign. Mind you I also frequently sit at the front waiting for my friend to finish their workout and I know very well what signage is shown at the front desk, this was not one of them. The last sign I saw was their notice about Labor Day hours.

We tried to kindly reason above with that front desk attendant whether it’s never been an issue, first time seeing the sign, we’ve paid for this service and it’s not free, and that we asked for this one time exception now that we are already here, but no is no. He was rude and dismissive. In return, he was happy to offer membership cancellation (which mind you, this means no further charge and not any refund either).

Did we mention we had to drive 20 minutes to come here (further than usual since they closed the Burnsville location)? All that just to be denied entry and get sent back home. Would you just leave like that? Would he not be furious? I asked to talk to a manager, but was told that it’s not available and that I had to come back tomorrow.

Frustration is an understatement. No option at all. I announced I was going to do my routine workout regardless. He then threatened to call the police that we are trespassing. It’s ridiculous, and so I said let it be then. Police was indeed called, and we were escorted out.

We confidently believe if this was to happen to anyone, they will just be as upset. We will reach out to his manager and this company corporate regarding this matter, and I will not be surprised if nothing can be done.

I’ve been a member here for more than six years and I always knew there have been questionable aspects of this gym quality and policy wise, but today was a dealbreaker. I checked in like I do 2+ times a week with my friend who joins me on every workout. I literally pay extra for guest access so he can join, this isn’t just some freebie. We always come later in the day around 8-10pm but today the staff decided to confront us about some new rule about no guests after 7pm. Your guest can still get in by purchasing a day pass though, so obviously just some kind of money grab. He said this sign has been out for over a month but we’ve never noticed anything and again we’ve checked in many times exactly the same way over the last several weeks with no one mentioning anything.

This guy decided he was going to defend this rule to the end, not making the slightest exception. He’d gladly cancel my membership for me (with no prorated refund) but he couldn’t even let us take one more workout after we’d already driven 20 minutes to get here and had never heard about this policy change prior. My friend insisted on just getting the workout done and the front desk called the police to have him removed. I can’t believe we’d be treated as criminals over a policy difference of two hours that we had no prior warning about. I’m sure we can find better options elsewhere anyway.

Hey if any of you are being told you need to go to your original home gym personally to cancel just call your bank and tell them you lost your debit card🙂 I was told that was the only way to cancel and I had since moved and they were like well we're sorry but those are the rules and I laughed and told the lady it seems I lost my debit card and I need a new one how will you charge me.. she said oh I see what you're doing I guess you can do that too

Pool and spa are reliably closed. No notice is given about closure other than a paper, sometimes handwritten sign on the front door - even though they seem to communicate that this will be a weekly issue we can “anticipate”. Staff seem uninterested in checking/answering if the pool is open for use therefore expecting us to drive to the gym to see if we can even get a workout in. Staff did not inform us of the fact that the pool area would be out of use 1-4 days a week EVERY week at the time we joined in mid-may of this year.

If the pool and spa are any part of why you’re interested in this club, don’t waste your money. I come to this club 6 days a week and one or both are closed at minimum 50% of the time. There is no communication to members, the only way to find out is if you drive to the club and see the paper sign they post in the door, or by calling the club, but good luck getting anyone to answer the phone.

If there was literally any other lap pool that was affordable in the apple valley area I would have already canceled.

I’ve been using LA Fitness services for over six months now, and while I’ve generally been satisfied, I’m becoming increasingly frustrated with the state of the pool and hot tub. Recently, both have been consistently out of service, and there’s barely any communication from management about it.

Just like I pay every month — on time — for both my membership and my wife’s, I expect all the facilities to work as advertised. It’s only fair to receive what we’re paying for.

My main concern is: when will these issues finally be fixed? And why aren’t we notified ahead of time when something is out of order? A simple message or alert would help members plan their visits better and avoid the disappointment of finding amenities unusable.

We, the members who regularly come to the Apple Valley location, deserve better communication — and honestly, some form of compensation. We’re paying monthly without fail, and yet we don’t get full access to what’s promised in our membership. That doesn’t feel right.

I hope LA Fitness takes this seriously and makes real improvements soon.

I recently visited LA Fitness as a guest with my husband, who is a member and was helping guide me through my workout. Unfortunately, I had an unpleasant experience with the personal trainer manager, Cindy. She approached us in a manner that felt abrupt and disrespectful, raising her voice to tell us that we could not train together.

While I understand that there may be gym policies in place, the way the message was delivered was unprofessional and made me feel uncomfortable. I believe such matters can be addressed respectfully and calmly, especially in a fitness environment where support and motivation are key.

I hope this feedback is taken constructively and helps create a more welcoming atmosphere for all members and guests.

Am Absolutely disappointed with the kids' club at this gym. I brought my well-behaved 2-year-old, excited for him to have some playtime while I worked out. However, they refused to accept him simply because he cried when leave. It's a KIDS' club! Expecting toddlers to be completely tear-free during separation is unrealistic. The staff showed no understanding or attempt to comfort him. This makes it impossible for parents with young children to utilize the gym. What's the point of having a kids' club if it's not equipped to handle normal toddler behavior? Definitely reconsidering my membership because of this.

Do not join this gym. They just closed the Burnsville location so they cramped and crammed together twice the people in one gym. You can’t even find a parking spot let alone a machine open to work out.

Also, the people who work out here are too lazy to rerack their weights or put them back in the designated spots. They wipe things down and leave the paper towels on the ground rather than garbage.

Been coming here for 6 years. I do sled pulls multiple times per week because it helps with my knee health. A few months ago the strap broke for it, which stops me from being able to use it. I asked three separate times when the strap would be replaced with no answer given to me every time. It probably costs 20 bucks, but for some reason the club can’t be bothered to replace it. I finally bought my own strap and bring that in with me now. It may be a small issue, but it’s a testament to the decline in quality this club has undergone in the past few years.

I signed back up at LA fitness after xperience closed to follow the zumba instructors Courtney and Heidi. I love taking dance classes but it really depends on the instructor. Unfortunately the speakers have been a consistant issue for over a year and are only getting worse. They cut in and out, disrupting class and kills the energy not to mention they sound horrible too. Lately nembers have even been walking out of class. These issues have been addressed by the instructors multiple times and members have complained and management still have no interest in improving the gym. If these problems continue, I will be canceling my membership along with many others.

I’ve been a member here for over 9 years taking dance classes and the speakers never work properly. It kills the entire vibe of the class. The instructors (Courtney and Heidi) are so amazing at what they do and brining in so many clients to lift this club up. As of late, there have been many complaints about the sound system not working for months and nothing being done about it. Many people in the class are ready to cancel their memberships and go elsewhere. All we want to do is dance. This is rediculous.

Customer service is absolutely pitiful. Went in 2 days to ask about the free gym pass I signed up for. Kid at the desk went ahead and told me “you need to schedule an appointment, when I asked if I could just come in and lift he told me straight up no. Fast forward to today February 27th the person who answered the phone immediately transferred me when I asked my question and I was hung up on, gave it some time and called but nobody would pick up the phone. Absolutely horrible service.

This gym is extremely overcrowded since the Burnsville location closed. You would have to wait 20mins + for a machine bc this place dont have enough machines. I came back to this LA fitness because the biggest LA in Burnsville got closed. I used to come to apple valley branch 10years ago. This facility is always full with people. They maintain it good. I wish this is a bit bigger. I also like it they rearrange the flexibility mats. Three mats are laid in three different places and all the people walk on them. It’s hard to do floor exercises on them with all the mud on it. That’s the only thing I wish they make it better.

Whenever it snows, water leaks onto both sides of the gym floor. The gym or building owner is too cheap to fix it. I told the front desk to at least put towels down to prevent accidents. They need to repair the roof or keep the floor safe for basketball and volleyball players.

I have no problems with this gym, all my issues are with the manager, Drew. A friend and I called to express a concern regarding a male frequenting the women's locker room under the guise of "identifying as a woman." We no longer felt safe using the locker room considering this individual was loitering and approached us IN the locker room where we were obviously uncomfortable. Understanding that this is a state legislation issue and not an LA Fitness issue, we called to speak with the manager to discuss how LA Fitness was going to respond to this legislation and protect the actual women using this gym. Women, who now feel violated entering the locker room. Drew was so rude, disrespectful, and dismissive on the phone. He barely let us speak, he kept interrupting us, and hung up the phone when we were mid-sentence. We were trying to preserve the dignity and privacy of the individual whom we encountered, but Drew knew exactly who we were referring to and even referred to him by name, violating the privacy of that individual. At the end of the day, it is not our job to affirm someone else's identity at the expense of our dignity, safety, or ability to participate in public life. When calling to understand a response and solution to this larger problem, we were dismissed, interrupted, and ignored. Every other LA Fitness employee that we brought this situation to was supportive and understanding that this was absurd. Drew was unwilling to even affirm that we were uncomfortable. While we understand that LA Fitness' hands are tied, they could be coming up with a solution to protect the biological women using their gym as a response to this legislation change, such as larger communal lockers to store personal items. This is what we called to understand and Drew was completely dismissive of.

If you’re considering joining this gym, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. You will be sorely disappointed in the fact that it is typically so crowded that you will not be able to get anything done in a timely manner. It doesn’t matter what day or time you choose to go, you will find that almost all of the useful equipment is constantly occupied. If it is not being used, there are teenagers just lounging around on it or playing with it while being disruptive and obnoxious.

I see complaints about the cleanliness however I regularly see the cleaning staff doing their jobs, but how are they supposed to keep up with the volume of inconsiderate people leaving their trash everywhere?

Update: new rules being implemented seem a bit strange. A stationary personal bag can’t be on the turf because it “wears it out” despite the bag sitting still and gym goers walking around on it all day long.

Also, sanitation wipes stations are often empty, leaving no way to wipes down machines/equipment.

Solid gym with just about all the equipment i want. It can feel claustrophobic with the layout, and a bit crowded at times. I do wish they were open earlier in the day.

Used to be a good place for friendly pick up basketball. Would come often in the late evening to shoot around to clear my mind, but they took that away. My guess is certain "people" made it difficult to control, but rather than regulating these people out, establishing rules and control, the gym has decided to punish all other repectable customers by closing the bball courts early on weekdays and weekends. So let me guess this straight, hours will extend to 11 pm but the courts close even earlier? How pathetic and insane is that? Poor management, employees can't control the crowd and sucky ownership so it won't be long before this location goes out of business. Will take my business to lifetime instead.

I’m usually a pretty easy going person and not one to leave reviews, but today was my last straw. The gym is very crowded which there is not much the staff can do about that, my problem is the kids running around and I’ve seen multiple cases of peoples workouts being interrupted because of this which can be very dangerous. Staff seems to just act like it’s not going on so they don’t have to deal with it. Today I went in 45 minutes before closing to just get some quick cardio in. As I was approaching the door I saw a staff member come and lock the doors, and me thinking that there’s no way they are already closing up, tried to pull the door. My second time at this gym. I used Edina for 8 years, and then Burnsville until it shut down last week. I will miss it. Apple Valley is busy but there are still plenty of equipment in fine shape and working condition to use when you need it. I wish some folks would stop the destructive reviews they drop on here, it is so unnecessary. Leave constructive criticism instead of trying to destroy the gym and staff. There are plenty of folks who love the gym and have a positive experience there, a lot more than the ones leaving poor reviews. And Google, install a thumb down on reviews so users can actually use it, I would.

My issues I have with this gym is 100% with Drew. He is incompetent and truthfully a waste of space in management. He signed me, my niece and grandma up for an account. Completely messed up my account which I had to fix and then told me there was a senior discount, come to find out months later there is not one. Then he tried to make up some excuses and act like he didn’t remember the conversation with me. I absolutely cannot stand being helped by him and truthfully there is no help. He’s useless and needs to be removed because LA Fitness is now loosing clients because of him, see other review for confirmation.

The front desk staff and trainers here are so awful. So unfriendly and so lazy. Always on their phones, never greeting members, unapproachable, just creating a bad atmosphere. Communication between trainers and clients is horrible.

Gym is usually pretty busy even outside of peak hours.

Equipment is okay but there are a lot of little things in need of repair. Some locks on the doors in the locker room are practically falling off, treads need to be aligned, etc.

Cleaning staff seems great.

But seriously, the front desk staff are some of the worst employees I've ever seen at any establishment.

Out of town guy here visiting my mom for a week so found this place for my lifting and machines sessions. Overall just excellent — clean, airy, and sunny space with many windows. Machines all in good working order and almost zero wear, even on for example the leg extension machines. 3 power racks, 4 standard bench press. Functional training area with astroturf, sleds, and ropes. Also the culture here is excellent with a diverse range of members who rerack perfectly. Honestly I can think of no constructive criticism. Maybe the best big box gym I’ve been to in the world — definitely top 3.

Incompetent front desk staff, very rude and immersed in his little phone world, if looking for work good option.
Same issues as others with their overweight trainers, how come they want to train someone if they can't keep in shape, just pathetic.
They don't maintain equipment, if anything is broken good luck it'll be like that for ever, upgrades ... haha

Usually a decwnt place. Some cool people some people give you the states, but I am commenting today, because of a bogus incident. By the squat rack someone ledt their Gatorade bottle. I called out if it was anyone's or if anyone was uaing the equipment. No one answered up. I go to adjust the guards to my level. Just as i was finishing placing the guards two teen looking people say they were using it. I told them I called out and no one responded so i was going to finish my set. They grab the bar. I told them i was going to get the manager. They didn't care. The manager said that he understands if someone is away for a little bit and comes bacl to the equipment. I can understand as well but if i had enough time to redo the equipment by the time they get back they should wait for me to get my set in as they walked away even after I called out. I am pretty sure the manager just doesn't want to deal with it as they weren't there. The other sad thing was there were others around who heard me call out, but didn't get involved either SMH oh well. It's not the end of the world but i feel like I should cancel my membership. Anyone else care to chime in?

This is hands down the cleanest gym I’ve ever been a part of. There is always someone checking on the bathrooms and cleaning. This gym definitely has that “club” vibe that I really like, the cardio is upstairs separate from weights, they have multiple of the same machines so I’m never waiting for one, they have a huge private yoga room that can be used for stretching or core work when not used for yoga classes, they have a hot tub, pool, sauna, juice bar and a huge locker room. The staff are helpful and always have a smile. Logan the trainer does a fantastic job at listening to your needs and kicking your butt accordingly! Hailey who works at Juiced Up is also incredible and her smoothies are the best I’ve ever had?! Definitely another reason why I continue to go to LA fitness in Apple Valley. 10/10⭐️

Let me start by saying I had been a member of this gym for over 12 years. No doubt, you get a great bang for your buck. The gym is big, pretty clean (for the number of people that are members), and the equipment is well maintained.
Unfortunately, I ended my membership this year and changed to a competitor and let me explain why. For some reason, younger people feel a need to document everything about their lives and share it with the world. I have absolutely no problem with this. However, when it is being done in the locker room where I and others are changing, I have to draw a line.
This happened 3 different times in the past 3 months. The first time it happened, a person that was either a teenager or in their early 20's was taking a video of themselves almost completely naked in front of the mirror. Depending on the angle he held his phone, he could have easily recorded others changing their clothes., I addressed it directly with the individual. I believe my exact wording was, "could you please not record in the locker room when others are changing?" His response was something to the effect of, "I'm not recording YOU, so mind your own business." I can't make this up.
So I decided to report it to the manager, and here is really where it gets worse. I was asked if I had any "evidence" of the incident, because without any, his "hands are really tied." I informed him that recording naked people without their permission is most likely illegal and that I'm not going to take a picture of a naked person taking a picture of himself. He told me that maybe it was a one time offense and that perhaps me confronting him would stop it. I agreed since this was my first time experiencing it.

Not two weeks later, it happened again! This time a different person. There is one sentence addressing it on a sign when you come into the locker room, but it is listed with other rules and not at all emphasized. Since my objective was not to get people kicked out, I suggested a solution would be putting up some signage on, or next to, the mirrors and designate a "selfie" area in the gym where people could document their progress (again, no problem with selfies, just not in the locker room). I was told this time that the regional manager would be in town and it would be addressed with him.
After two more months and nothing that I could see in the locker room to address it, it happened a third time. This time the guy was taking pics or video of his full naked body in front of the mirror. I decided to take my business elsewhere and pay more for private bathrooms.
It's too bad, because I really loved L.A. Fitness. I can only wonder what the reaction would have been had it been in the women's locker room. Privacy and safety of your naked body images (even if it's in the background) on the Internet are not something to take lightly. Thanks for good years, but I'm out.
