Classes are GREAT but this gym is having so many issues recently… steam room closed, hot tub closed for multiple days and now the gym doesn’t have hot water… for paying premium for a gym you’d expect more

Lifetime Maple Grove has a waiting list for a year. Other Lifetime facilities stated this is unacceptable because you can use your membership at any location. I was denied access even though there was minimal attendees at the slowest (senior times) time of the day.

Apparently this location doesn’t actually stay open until 9:00pm, even though it’s clearly posted online and on the building. I showed up at 8:30pm after work to get a quick lift in, and they locked the doors. After waiting outside for 10 minutes and hoping the gal inside will get off her cell phone and actually come talk to me, I took this photo. I know she saw me and couldn’t be bothered for a simple conversation or explanation. If you’re going to be open until 9:00pm, BE OPEN UNTIL 9:00pm. OR, if you can’t do that, change your hours so people don’t drive over there just to get locked out during business hours. No excuse for this.

No bad experiences here and have always felt safe and comfortable. This is my favorite location to consistently go to unless I need to use the pool. I prefer having the spa spaces in designated locker rooms because it means less wandering eyes from older gentlemen which I experience way too much of at Champlin.

Saw the review from “Andy” and wanted to counter with my experience. Staff let me in and explained the security threat and reason behind the doors being locked early that day. I completely understood and was about to be on my way when “Andy” started to freak out taking pictures of the staff. I stayed around to make sure the staff was okay. “Andy” was told the same thing as me (none of the staff said they didn’t feel like working lol a complete lie on “Andy’s” part) - he was upset but I can see how it’s hard when you lack common sense. Overall this location and staff are always kind and 10/10. Don’t listen to “andy” and come join LT Maple Grove!

What is wrong with this place! Who shuts down the steam room an hour before close?! That’s not what I paid my membership fees for. Management should reach out to me immediately! I’m sorry your workers are lazy and don’t wanna work past 10 o’clock, but that’s not my fault for paying a membership and needing to use the services of the facility.

They “locked” the doors 30 minutes prior to close??? The two staffers told me that they don’t want to work past 9 pm so they clear everyone out early. They told me a story about how no one would ever consider working past 9 etc… I’m embarrassed for Lifetime …

There was an attempted break in to my vehicle, which isn’t the gyms fault. However the MG police and me have been trying for weeks to get a hold of the GM to obtain the parking lot video footage. They have been non-responsive. I’m concerned that by the time the GM finally responds the footage will no longer be available. I’ll be very disappointed. The police left the request and paperwork there the night it happened sooooo there’s no acceptable excuse for the delay.
***Update, footage is not available after 30 days per gym 😔

I was given a membership to this gym through an employer. Day one going in just to sign up the woman at the front counter was rude. I did the tour and on that visit decided it was iverpriced and not for me. My home gym is better and I don't share with every family in town. I recently left that employer and canceled the never used membership a month ahead of time. Now they are confused why my employer hasn't paid and are trying to bill me for a month I didn't use and had canceled. This gym is a rip off in every way. They don't have any of my info so I'm just reporting them as spam now lol.

I’ve been in different Life Times all over the country. This is by far the one location Maple Grove that desperately needs investment from HQ to remodel this place. Not up to today’s current Lifetime standards. I’ve been waiting over 10yrs. Apparently HQ forgot about this location. It’s disappointing for such a nice community as Maple Grove.

This Lifetime is great because the hot tub and sauna and steam room are all in the locker room. The problem is that the sauna only gets hot to 140 degrees consistently. Anyone who sauna’s knows you need at least 175 degrees to reap the benefits. Lifetime has been told several times about this issue and must just be putting off getting a new heater or servicing this one. Sometimes if you go find someone to complain to they may be-able to tinker with it and get it going. Just fix it already or buy a new one please.

I would email this concern, but the last two emails I sent have gone without response. It's really frustrating to pay for a membership to a gym who then rents that same gym space out to make additional money on a Saturday in the busiest time of year. It's getting really hard to justify what Lifeetime is charging for the value in return.

I’ve been a member of Maple Grove Lifetime for six years. Throughout the years I have routinely played basketball. As of recently, lifetime has decided to raise the two main hoops at night so you cannot use them. I have gone to the courts most week nights in the past month and there is a collective frustration on the court. Tonight, there was 40 people trying to use the courts. 10 people on each hoop trying to play. It’s chaotic. With the consistent price hikes and lifetime withdrawing the ability to use their equipment. I am dissapointed with the facility and strongly considering terminating my membership. I’ve heard crunch fitness is a great gym for $15.00 a month.

I also have forgotten a couple things, my Apple Watch and my new water bottle! Both were brought to the front desk quickly for me to pick up! I can really tell they value their members and want people to feel welcome and taken care of.

There is a group on Sunday mornings that play basketball and bully people. I checked the morning of Sunday to see there were no court reservations. I just wanted to practice myself as I'm rehabbing a hip injury and can't play full speed. When working out on my own hoop I was suddenly in the middle of a full game with no warnings the group was planning to just play on my half of the court. As I told them if they could keep it on there half they told me they had reserved the court. I told them I checked this morning and that was a lie and this caused them to escalate the situation as now all ten men were yelling at me to get off. I then went to the front desk to ask the receptionist if they did reserve the court. She was very nice and apologized because I think this group does this a lot and said she would talk to them later but could do so now if I wanted to keep playing. Not wanting to be targeted by their group, I said it was fine.

So all in all, there are some patrons at this gym that don't follow rules and use gang mentality and size to bully other gym goers instead of talking like adults which I wouldnt expect at a luxury gym

This location is completely disappointing. All the equipment is incredibly dated and absolutely stacked a top one another. It is as if the equipment fell straight out of the 90's on to its side and broke a hip in the process.

Groups of minors (like 12 yo's, who clearly do not know how to correctly use the equipment safely) use the lifting area and machines as a hangout spot.

No one seems to understand racking their weights as numerical order is an unknown concept. As is, apparenlty, how to wipe a machine off after oneselves.

Planet fitness is, and I honestly can not believe I'm saying this, a cleaner more organized fitness club at a fraction of the cost. I would bet money others like Crunch Fitness or similar are as well.

Just astoundingly disappointed in the once great Life Time

The rates went up but, the hours didn’t increase, the kids club hours didn’t increase, shoes stolen from the locker room, hot tub not monitored guys fully nude at times in there, steam room smells like mildew from the drain, the bench/sitting area has a sharp corner of tile (safety corner) also missing grout. alway not clean in there on the sitting area also, the Stair masters a few hasn’t been working for a couple weeks.

Plus side the staff when you come in at the front desk are very welcoming and nice.

They should increase the care of the facility and hours before the rates

The increase in the membership rate isn’t justified when nothing has improved. Plus side the weights work just fine

Canceling this week. So expensive and the cost has gone up $5 twice in the last 2 years. We can't even go when I really want to because the kids room is still closed 1:30-4:30. And they close early on Fridays. That's been a huge frustration.

I'll start with the positives.
-the gym offers great services, personal training, classes, etc.
-ammenities like a pool and sauna, pilates and studio equipment.
-almost all the weight (isometric and free) and cardio equipment a normal person may need
-a cafe area
- an indoor 1/4 mile track that encircles a full sized basketball court.
-a basketball court
-other outdoor facilities
-kids area and daycare.

I generally go to the plymouth lifetime for a few reasons. Here's a short list of negatives as to why it is a quality gym, but not rhe 'best' lifetime.

-Small lockers. Enough for a jacket and maybe one bag.
-Tight corners and winding floor layout with a lot of obstructions; if you're in a hurry, you'll probably bump into someone.
-odd excercise/ fitness sections: some areas are way way off into a corner and are hard to see or notice.
- not that much restroom space.

Lighting and mood is terrible, you walk into a darkly, low-lit hall, and the employees are barely motivated to greet or say bye to you, compared to other Life Time clubs. Reminds me of the tunnel of despair for gyms and retail shops.

Smells of reeking gym sweat.
Cannot truly iterate or articulate how disgusting the awful aroma is entrenched in the carpet and walls of the entire facility, or even gym equipment itself.
I don't know what kind of cleaning must take place, but apparently, it's like a moldy sensation of heavily drenched sweat that is stuck in almost every part of the building, and it's extremely unbearable even for someone that can tolerate a lot of smelly things.

Why this club is even operating at this poor quality condition, blows my mind..
Building should be demolished and rebuilt, this is probably the most disgusting gym of any Life Time, and respectfully, to call it a Life Time is a disgrace to this company that attempts to pride itself in supposedly the highest quality out there, or so they claim.
Have the CEO or the VP's come work out at this gym, and they'll realize the wasted money and potential still being injected into such low quality places like this.

If anyone from Life Time is reading this, I hope you take this into deep consideration, that Maple Grove as a community, should not have to deal with this trashy gym.
We deserve better, and I will be communicating to all of my friends, colleagues and family, never to come to this club until it gets completely revamped.

Steer clear of the Maple Grove Life Time gym, it's absolutely, notoriously disgusting. Thank you for reading.

***Reply if Life Time tries writing back to this post***
Place is a disgusting molasses of sweat and grime, nothing will invite me back to this gym. Do not recommend this place to anyone.

Very Disappointed-
Work with individuals with disabilities and have been in search of gyms with family bathrooms. Our individuals need one to one staff support and would need access to coed bathrooms. Director and house manager toured the facility and were absolutely in love with it only to find out at the end of the tour that our individuals would not be welcome because it would be upsetting to some of the parents to have adults with disabilities in the family bathroom. To avoid complaints, they suggested we take our business elsewhere. This came directly from the general manger. Very very disappointed.

My one complaint is the sauna and steam room RARELY work!!! You have to manually reset the sauna and wait 10-15 minutes for the room to heat up again! I think it’s time for a new one.

This gym is equivalent in size to the Bronze Lifetime in Champlin. It has the same amount of machines and it feels like the same square footage of space for the free weights. I feel as though the price is much higher due to the community center being attached.

This is my go to Gym it’s the closest to me. I love the locker rooms but they literally never have deodorant anymore. After I first signed up they don’t put it out any more. Which is a bummer..

You do get to use the spray deodorant (if you like manly scents)

The hot tub/sauna/ steam saunas are all inside the locker rooms. I can never sit with a loved one of the opposite sex… Plymouth is my go to for unisex friendliness!

There’s almost always equipment open for use!

The Classes with Tina are just heavenly. She’s amazing at what she does! I go to this gym just for her!

There are so many classes to choose from and mostly good instructors teaching them p.s (Tina)

The slide was quite fun in the pool area and they even have a rope you can swing on to swing in the pool..

I loved playing with family the pool volleyball.

And the inside splash pad was so fun 🤩 even for an adult 🙌

My favorite part of the Lifetimes is the uniqueness and different things they offer even from each other.

Another nice 'gold' level gym, with decent amenities for the price level. The layout of the track and group fitness studios is awkward though, with the track wrapping around one entirely and cutting between the two studios so that people moving into the larger studio or between the two are always in the way of people running on the track. Also the membership seems mostly older and many of the instructors and classes seemed geared towards that - I get a very 80's aerobics vibe sometimes! One thing I appreciate about this club is that there is a hot tub, sauna, and steam room INSIDE the locker room, so you don't even have to go out into the main pool area!

Source: Google

★ 2

I want to give this club more than 2 stars but I just can't. See details below:

Amenities: 5 stars. Nice sauna, steam room, pool, basketball court.

Price: 2 stars. It's really quite expensive.

Hours: 4 stars. They used to be open 24 hours but now it's closed from midnight until 4am.

Equipment availability: 1 star. Despite there being plenty of equipment, the club is absolutely over run with personal trainers. The trainers rarely have 1 on 1 training, they do it in groups. This would be fine if they had designated areas for group sessions, but they don't. Instead, they have signs and papers hung up over the majority of equipment posting their "reservations" for said equipment. They'll block off 12+ treadmills for hours at a time, even if only 3 people are in the group class.

I've talked with the club GM several times about this, and rather than get better, it's gotten worse. More trainers, more group classes, etc.

This gym is not inexpensive, and yet the programming is lacking. The group classes are always SO over-crowed that they are not even enjoyable. They pack us in like sardines because they are too stingy to offer classes greater frequently, or in a larger space. It is very frustrating to drive to the gym, only to find that there is not room in the class you planned on attending. Who wants to do yoga with someone's elbow inches in your face? And now they are offering Pilates classes -- great right? NO, because they want you to pay extra on top of your monthly membership for the privilege of attending classes in your own gym.

Didn't like this location staff was rude and intrusive. Cleaning lady in the locker room kept trying to talk about the pool while we were getting naked to shower. She then doubled back to lecture us about the hottub. As if her first intrusion wasn't enough. She then was very rude. I won't go back to that location ever again. I think her name was Deb.

Lifetime is an excellent place to exercise. Facility is nice and usually very clean. I enjoy working out here. I have two reasons I did not rate it 5 stars. First, it is quite expensive. I enjoy coming here and the location is convenient so I choose to pay the monthly fee. However you can find many gyms for much less. Second, the whirlpool and steam room are often under repair. I pay a lot so I expect everything to be in proper working order.

Great Barre Class!! I like the ambience created and teacher was a real gem! Loved the pace and the music. Great space between the people and not crowded. I was there for first time and no one felt like they were in a click. I enjoyed it so much!

Despite the equipment being older and the actual gym not being as aesthetically updated as the others in the area the MG location is always really clean and the equipment is always in working condition.

For $90 a month I expect at the very minimum a hot shower. Numerous times I’ve been and the shower doesn’t have hot water. The showers are always nasty with hair clogged in the drains just gross. Not to mention the new treadmills they have don’t work half the time and take a week or more to get fixed. Clearly management and corporate don’t care. Just a cash cow for them.

Undersized, questionable club level, and more importantly, unsafe.
I've trained at 12 LTF facilities across the nation for 15 years, and no facility has left me questioning my membership more than this one. Let me explain;

Not a true Gold facility when considering the like: Whether it be Woodbury, Plymouth or even South Jordan UT, each of these facilities seemingly meet equipment standards (e.g., X number of assisted chest fly; X number of stand alone lat pull downs, etc.) that I've seen across all other Gold facilities I've been to. Not only does the Maple Grove location fall short of this by a rather significant margin, the facility itself isn't the appropriate size in order to accommodate Gold level amenities that other Gold gyms in the metro area can manage. I'm convinced that the only reason this is a Gold level LTF is because of the Maple Grove label. Not a problem in and of itself (as this does help regulate gym population); however the facility needs to be up to standards to justify charging for Gold, otherwise this constitutes the criticism of 'Overcharging', 'Ripoff', or lack of value in general. Coon Rapids, Champlin, each nearby bronze level facilities are of better value. It's pretty hard to dismiss this feedback when it's a fact.

Safety: With consideration to the above, the gym floor feels over saturated with equipment (again, not even enough to meet what I'd consider Gold standards) laid out in such a way that is not only uncomfortable, but unsafe. Equipment is so tightly packed together that there isn't reasonable rest area for in between sets aside from the free-weight zone. I have also been bumped into during both bench press and lat pull down sets because there isn't enough room beside or behind the equipment to walk by. I intend to address this directly with the Maple Grove Mgmt.

Example (see photos): Flat bench's are forced up against the wall/mirror which doesn't allow for adequate all around access for proper spotting. The real issue here -- Although one can drag the bench away from the wall, this doesn't always cross the minds of those lifting, those who may already be apprehensive to ask for a spot. I can SELF IDENTIFY that I've needed to help with an emergency bar re-rack for someone late into their set lifting essentially to failure, from the side of the bench because the rear wasn't accessible. Additionally, directly to the right was another bench with someone else in the middle of their set limiting my ability to help the person in need, nearly knocking his bar in the process. All of this could be prevented if benches were turned around with placement beginning from the center of the room so that people aren't prohibited in any shape or form from providing a spot or re-rack. Emergency re-rack's do happen, but the facility lay out shouldn't in any way inhibit safety. I'm also surprised that more mirrors haven't been shattered.

TLDR: New building needed; money being spent on cosmetic details when the brick and mortar is itself is the complication. Unsafe gym equipment floor layout due to the former, with the building itself limiting the facility's ability to even meet the equipment standards that of those constitute a Gold level facility.

Separate feedback has been sent to corporate directly; no response has been received. I hope this situation can get sorted out in the near future as there is FAR too much similar feedback below.

This is realistically more of a country club than a gym. It's full of uptight maple grove people and full if staff who are sick of uptight maple grove people and might still take it out on non uptight people. THEY WILL lie to you to get your money, they WILL purposely misinform you. They WILL play dumb when you confront them and they WILL pretend not to know. The whole place is just so pretentious. If you have kids and a family you might find it valuable. If you don't and you just want to workout and take your fitness seriously without dealing with a bunch of unnecessary bloatware gimmicky nonsense, you should probably look else ways. This is a business that knows it's in a higher income suburb and is setup to completely rip off it's consumer base.

Changing their 24 hour access. First they changed the basketball courts hours and now the whole gym --- without reducing the membership fee. Very disappointed and will reconsider my membership

The incompetence of the staff, when it took months to finally get my membership, was not lost on me. I’m also certainly not the only one that isn’t okay with random price increases every month with no notice or explanation.

I like this club. Locker room amenities are good. Hot tub is really nice if you don't mind looking at swinging rods while you soak.

I spent almost a year trying to cancel my membership ship. Agnis kept blaming technicalities on why it couldn’t be cancelled. I happily paid my dues there for 10 years. Not to mention, I was being overcharged for a period of time. They did refund that after I caught on to it. I ended up telling my credit card company to stop paying them. Now they canceled my membership but won’t stop harassing me for one more month of dues plus a late charge. I see from other reviews that I’m not the only one.

Love! Especially if you have kids....the staff couldn't be better! A membership here also buys you access to the community center pool, which is AMAZING! Indoor area during the winter which includes waterslides and a fantastic outdoor pool in the summer with all sorts of fun water things for kids to do. They also have weekend parties for kids 3-11 (about $45 for 2 kids) where you can drop them off for 4 hours and go on a date AND you can trust your child is having a blast! They've got a giant bouncy house, games in the gym, an art activity, and they feed them pizza!

There’s just no point for paying the premium for this gym membership - their equipment is basic, for the price you’d think they’d offer some fun courses. When I was with LA fitness ALL their courses were included in their membership and it was a fraction of the price of this place. And the times that they do offer classes aren’t aligned with their infant care hours. Their infant care hours are the worst - 9-12 And 4-6 but during the prime hours of 1-4 they’re closed. Also, when we joined part of the offer included infant swim classes. When we went to our first session they tried to charge us two months worth of swim class fees ($140 USD). They’re so uncoordinated with the new swim school. We also at the time bought Lifetime bucks which we were told we could use for anything including life cafe and that they don’t expire which is clearly a lie as I got a notification on my app that my LT bucks are expiring next month. Yes the staff is friendly but I not paying a high premium just to have smiling faces I expected more out of this place. I am truly disappointed with their entire business model- with that being said as a family we’re looking into other gyms in the area to switch out of this place. We’re not happy customers.

Life Time is the only gym I’ve stuck with for more than 3 months. It’s not just the amenities...they keep their gyms clean.

The Maple Grove gym was recently remodeled and they really did a great job! Never have to wait for equipment, and most of the machines are top-of-the-line.

Honestly, I’ll never look at another gym the same again.
