The best coaches, the best community, 10/10 recommend.
2025 Edit: Nearly 8 years later, I still stand by this.

Hands down one of the best CrossFit gyms I’ve been to in Minneapolis, the people are friendly and supportive, the coaches are phenomenal, and the programming is great! The energy/vibes are immaculate! Def recommend giving it a try if you’re looking for a CrossFit gym.

Very cool gym and the owner seems great as well. I did a work out class here and if I lived in the area, I would absolutely consider making this my primary gym.

I love my gym. The coaches and members make this a welcoming and supportive environment for both those brand new to Crossfit and those with experience. I’ve been coming here for about a year and a half and am much stronger than I ever was working out on my own in a big box gym. If you’re serious about wanting to get stronger or just want a community to support you in getting into the gym more consistently you will not regret a membership at North Strong!

I love this gym - it's so friendly and people are really encouraging! Classes are small, coaches are knowledgable, and if you are new to cross fit, there are lots of ways to scale the workouts!

10/10 would recommend. Bring water, humility, and a sense of humor. 🤣
If you’re looking for a gym where the people actually learn your name and don’t just refer to you as “that one who almost died doing a 5k m row, 100 wallballs, and 50 burpees just for the April Bingo card,” this is the place.
From day one, the coaches made me feel like part of the community—kind, competent, and somehow able to correct my form without making me feel broken. The members are just as friendly, and beyond the workouts, the gym is very social. There's always something fun happening—trivia, pickleball, drinks, and driving an hour outside the city to cheer each other on while competing and eating questionable Italian afterwards.
We also have a great mobility class every Saturday to help you piece your body back together just so you can destroy it again M-F.

Going to this gym is like clubbing—if the bouncers made you deadlift and the drinks were replaced with electrolytes. Been showing up since late last summer and I still don’t know if I’m here for the fitness or the playlist. Either way, I leave drenched in sweat and joy (and occasionally dog fur).
The community? Top-tier. These are the kind of people who cheer you on while you question every life decision that led you to doing burpees at 6am. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll PR. And yes, you can bring your dog, which is great because mine is more emotionally stable than I am mid-workout.
Summer warmup runs? Awful. Terrible. Would rate 0/10. But the faster you run, the faster you’re done—and also the faster you can collapse in a dramatic heap and pretend it was all worth it (it was).
Basically, if you’re into loud music, heavy weights, and borderline chaos in the best way—this is your gym

So far, I’ve had a great experience here. Each workout has a number of scaling options so you can tailor it to your body/abilities, and the gym/coach culture prioritizes technique and safety over moving big weight (helping reduce injuries!) . Membership is definitely more expensive than something like a planet fitness membership, but I find that the class-based structure helps me go more regularly, and the predetermined workouts mean that I don’t neglect certain muscles.

Great gym, the coaches are very welcoming and helpful, plenty of equipment, and there is a great atmosphere. I've been a member at a few Crossfit gyms and North Strong Nordeast is a great place, for both experienced Crossfitters and people looking to start. I visited a couple of other gyms in the area when I was looking for a new gym, and I'm glad I decided on North Strong Nordeast!

This place has great mixture of community support while challenging you to overcome your areas of weakness. Each class I know will make me break a sweat and get me more comfortable moving my body in the correct ways. People are awesome and coaches are very knowledgeable. Still early in going but my expectations have been undoubtedly exceeded!

If you're new to CrossFit, want to find a fitness community, or just want to get up and move a few times a week with friends-- this is the place to go. After my old gym closed and I shopped around, I was looking for a place that could foster a community and consistent encouragement to keep me active in CrossFit and lifting. North Strong is IT.
The staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and always quick to offer advice and encouragement. The members will always cheer you on, make you push yourself harder, and will keep you coming back to see your gym friends every single week. Also: there's a variety of gym dogs that come around.
I've been doing CrossFit since 2019. This is the place that has allowed me to push myself to try new skills, to hit new goals, to hit PR's-- and it's also the gym that's made me feel the most comfortable, day in and day out. It doesn't matter your skill or size or ability-- North Strong coaches and members will always find a way to make you leave with a (sweaty) smile.

I have found such a home at North Strong. Joining any fitness community— CrossFit, especially— can feel super intimidating but from my first days dropping in at North Strong, I was disarmed by how welcoming and friendly everyone is. The coaches are knowledgable and encouraging and they take the time to get to know you as both a human being and an athlete. We have a good time here, come join us!!

I love this place! I joined North Strong shortly after moving to Minneapolis both as a way to stay active and a way to meet people. The community is amazing and the programming is a lot of fun! The coaches are super helpful in guiding you to find the right scaling option so every workout can be done at whatever skill level you are at. If you are looking for a great community of people who like to keep fitness fun, this is the place for you.

I came because I didn't want to trip on something in the gutter, sprain my ankle, get fat, and then suffer through a few years before eventually kicking it. I stayed because the people are pretty great. Crossfit is frequently misunderstood, and it's absolutely worth it. I'm not going to be the strongest guy in the gym, but as I rapidly approach my 8th decade North Strong has helped me maintain a quasi-reasonable/flirty relationship with my bathroom mirror.

North Strong is the best! When my previous CrossFit gym closed, the North Strong community welcomed myself and many of my gym-mates with open arms. The non-competitive vibe makes me feel so comfortable with working out and trying to better myself. Everybody is super friendly and encouraging towards each other. My fitness has improved in ways I never thought possible. Highly recommend!

I originally came to North Strong Nordeast through 23rd Veteran's Reconditioning program. I hadn't been to a gym or had any physical fitness programming in close to 30 years. I completed the program last summer and I continue to "show up" there for my morning positivity pill.
The equipment is great, and the staff are top notch. It's just a positive environment.
I came to work on myself and deal with my trauma in a healthy way. I keep coming back for the community North Strong provides. All welcome.

One of the best gyms I’ve been to. Facility was incredible. Coaches and staff were welcoming, knowledgeable, and were awesome mentors to the members. I was a drop in for a full week. Zach (the owner) treated me like I was a lifetime member. Worked out with another coach (Kyle) and he made the experience 10x better. Highly recommend. Can’t wait to go back!

Excellent gym. Dropped in and wasn’t sure where to find convenient times and chill workouts and this place surpassed my expectations. Each of coaches were attentive and knowledgeable-even helped me PR my Amanda time. Facilities were clean, equipment clearly taken care of, and the members were supportive and took time to learn and pronounce my name. Definitely recommend for drop-ins or folks looking for a home gym.

Definitely a great workout and for a newb, they work with your comfort level😊 everyone is friendly and supportive too! I am injured and unable to continue CrossFit with advice from medical professionals, and currently being ignored by one of the coaches while asking for a refund. Leaving this 1 star review to warn future customers that if you become injured, they will not refund your money. If you ask to plead your case with the owner, you will be ignored as well. Seemed like a great gym at first which turned into a very poor and expensive experience. I am sure other gyms have better coaches that respond to the customers, you have been warned!

Over the years I've been to multiple crossfit gyms but my experience with Northstrong was the best I've ever had. They are all really awesome and experienced people.
The coaches motivated me in the most grueling workouts.
Over the time I was there, I picked up something different from every coach I trained with. They all were really nice to talk to and extremely friendly.
Their approach called "The Level Method" worked extremely well for me and I saw significant improvements in my strength and overall body composition.
Their Post Covids precautions were also top notch.
I strongly recommend joining this gym long term.

Even though I consider myself to be a reasonably active and athletic person, I was a little nervous to start CrossFit because it has a reputation for being pretty intense. From the start of my intro session, through the On Ramp process, and in class, I have felt welcomed and supported by the coaches and other North Strong members. The workouts are challenging and fun. There's something different every time you come in.
Everyone is friendly, enthusiastic, and happy to be at the gym. The coaches are invested in making sure you learn each movement properly and safety. The Level Method they use is great for tracking and measuring your strength and progress. I'm really excited to continue getting stronger and more athletic with this awesome group of people.

I love CFNDE! Cool spot in Northeast with exposed brick, timber columns and high ceilings. The coaches are great, focus on form and safety, very knowledgeable and will cater to all levels of fitness and provide plenty of scaling options. The gym is very spacious and has all the equipment one could ever need. Great community and plenty of extracurricular events. All are welcome here. Quite possibly the best gym in the Midwest!

After reviewing a few different gyms in the area I decided to go with Nordeast due to the location and the overall emphasis on form (the huge parking lot is a plus too). There are plenty of gyms that will push you hard for the gains, resulting in injuries. This gym is not about the short term gains. They strive to create healthy long term athletes.
