We live in our travel trailer and thought PF would be a good idea to get a membership for, so we would always have shower access, even when boondocking. But that turned out to be a terrible idea. We thought we’d try it out for one month and cancel if we didn’t like it, little did we know we would be currently still trying to cancel the membership 3 months later.

I have a CPTSD, so sudden temp changes in a shower can cause a major panic attack. I don’t know if it’s just this PF location (Duluth, MN), but every time a toilet flushed the water went COLD for quite a while. Which very much caused a panic attack.

So we cancelled our membership within their 7 business days that they state on their website but we were then charged the fee again the next month plus an ACH of $54 for their annual fee which we hadn’t read the fine print well enough to know about (which is our bad but really, the annual fee the second month???). And that put us negative in our bank account. This whole time we’re trying to straighten this out and our bank is too we’re calling sometimes daily and no one calls back as far as management goes and we can’t get anyone to help us. We emailed someone and just got a canned response saying if we didn’t pay for the months our card couldn’t be run for they’d send us to collections.

If you are tight on money or care if you have $27 come out every month and can’t stop it without some kind of magical intervention, then try another gym. Their membership is awful and honestly I think criminal.

Pros:

People told me not to go to Planet Fitness when I first started lifting. Lunk alarm gave it a bad rep. I've yet to see it used and I'm in and out 6 days per week. Planet Fitness has been changing over to a more lifter friendly environment. Which is nice. I really hope they expand at some point as this is definitely a hot spot for lifting.

The staff here are super nice and don't harp on you for grunting, lifting heavy or slamming weights.

I love the implementation of the Hack Squat and Supine Press. I can only use the supine press due to shoulder issues.

The before and after pictures are roughly 10 months apart. All the result of lifting at Planet Fitness.

Cons:

I would like to see better Smith Machines, as a perfect 90 degree angle is a very awkward ROM and isn't natural at all.

Get rid of half the cardio machines, in place of lifting equipment. Simply wasted space. Pretty sure every serious lifter there thinks this though.

Again would just like to see it expanded. It's a hot spot and definitely needs upsized.

The gym is kept very clean, there’s plenty of equipment for the most part, unless it’s really busy and you’re weight training, then it can get a bit hard to snag the machines you need. The bathroom is nice, there’s a lot of lockers, a few showers, and changing stalls.

This place is pretty awesome what you get and what you pay for is top quality for your dollar, I can bring a friend anytime I want, I got access to tanning booths, red light booths, massage chairs, and beds. All for 25 smackaroonies. The only thing I would change is adding a sauna, but again for 25 bucks this is the best money I've ever spent on myself. Being at this gym doesnt feel like a chore, it's my happy place.

Should be renamed to Planet Fix This!

It was a nice new gym but now is in rapid decline. Machines are left unrepaired and inoperable for weeks at a time. Vinyl on many of the machines is cracked, abrasive and worn. It seems like there is a tipping point before they affect repairs. I.E. no repairs until at least 10 machines need work.

When they first opened, they had a number of issues with regard to cleanliness, employee engagement and safety, but things have definitely improved in that regard. The employees are far more engaged, friendly and hard working now.

That being said, and because of the decline in equipment safety and operation, as a healthcare provider, I’m not sure that I can in good conscience recommend this place to my patients.
I think with perpetuated effort and more frequent repairs, they could reach 4 or 5 stars.

I really appreciate the hours—very convenient for a busy schedule. The gym and locker room are always very clean, and the equipment is consistently in great working condition. It’s also extremely affordable, which is important for anyone on a budget.

I want to give special recognition to the staff member who was working on June 12, 2025, around 7:00 PM. I didn’t catch his name, but he did a phenomenal job handling the front desk and maintaining the facility. He was the only one there, yet still ensured everything was clean and welcoming for members.

All in all, I feel very comfortable at Planet Fitness as I continue my weight loss journey and make lasting lifestyle changes. Thank you for providing a positive and supportive environment

Back to the gym for the first time in a few years. It's always tough going back, especially if you've ignored your fitness for a while. I couldn't have been happier. There isn't any toxic gym culture or muscle bros traipsing around the place, grunting and preening. The friendly staff at the front desk greets you with a smile and makes sure you leave with one too. There is more than enough cardio equipment for you to grab whatever type of machine is your favorite with no issues. I wasn't even close to someone. There are a sufficient number of benches, cablesand various strength machines. 25 minutes of cardio and a few push/pull super sets, and I never felt like I had to wait or like I had someone on top of me. My wife has had a similar experience so far. I was there from 7am to 8am and it wasn't much busier when I left than when I came.

If you're looking to get back, but are worried about being comfortable or judged - DON'T! This place is great.

For the lifters:
Lots of cables and assisted machines for a variety of muscle groups. Lots of smith machines and benches as well. Dumbbells up to 75lbs only, but multiples of each weight.
No bench press, squat rack, or deadlift platforms - youll get lunk'd.
And of course, cardio machines galore!
Honestly cant beat the price of this place vs other gyms. My only major critique is the placement of the water fountain in between both locker rooms; during busy times you constantly awkwardly run into people at the water fountain and entrance of the locker rooms.

I don’t usually write reviews let alone poor ones but I have been a planet fitness member for years while living in the twin cities and have never been to a PF facility where members are expected to clean the tanning beds. I think it’s pretty uncleanily that when I walk into a room it is filled with used yellow rags and unsanitized beds. The employees hand you rags with each use but the beds are no longer sanitized by workers after each use. It’s pretty gross and I don’t want to feel like “that person” having to go and ask the worker to clean the bed/room every single time I come in. I believe the employees should be expected to clean between each use and it would make for a much more pleasant experience as a black card member.

By far the best Planet Fitness I've worked out at. This place is doing it right. I was visiting from the Chicago area and impressed with the number of Smith Machines and benches. I was there during peak hours on on a Monday evening. This place is huge for a Planet Fitness. I really liked the bikes they had, they weren't spin bikes, more of Pelton style bike, way better than the uncomfortable upright bikes that all of the other Planet Fitness locations have that I've worked out at. Like the other locations, the equipment mix is not perfect, way more treadmills than what is needed, but since they have plenty of weight equipment, I can't knock them for the number of treadmills and ellipticals they have. Like most Planet Fitness locations, cleanliness and friendliness of staff is present everywhere. Overall a great vibe, good mix of young crowd and older crowd. I wish my local Planet Fitness was this nice.

7/10/24 update.,the facility has been lacking air conditioning for over a month which I find very difficult to work out in. The locker rooms some how are cool but it’s just humid and uncomfortable in the work out area. I asked a worker about it and they said it was broke, this is a new facility and it’s been over a month. I go to other locations in cities and it’s never like that.
I’ve enjoyed my membership and like how much equipment they have available. It’s easy to get into tan and the massage chairs as well. The workers are friendly especially Chris. He seems to always be working hard.

If you've never been to a PF before, just know that it's more cardio focused, and almost all of the weight machines are assisted.
For $10 a month, you can't find a better deal for a gym membership.
My only complaint is I think the locker room floors are a little dirty, but with the volume of people coming in during the winter I'm not too surprised.

Highly recommend PF if you are new to weight lifting or want a calm atmosphere.

This location is way too busy and packed with college gym bros and rich white ladies, it’s supposed to be an unintimidating environment for beginners but unfortunately if you are looking for that, you won’t find it here. There was an entire college boy sports team training in the parking lot the other day as if they don’t have a campus facility that’s free. Don't do business with Planet Fitness! They're thieves and swindlers. They throw in all kinds of hidden fees so you pay WAY more than $10 a month and they refuse to give any refunds. I cancelled in less than a month and now they're trying to charge me an annual fee for cancelling in addition to the already $35 they charged me for the first month and no refund even though I never once used the place and cancelled in less than a month. Also they don't allow you to call or email to cancel. They literally require to to go cancel in person or write a letter and snail mail it to them, even though you can sign up online without ever going in.

Go somewhere honest that charges what they say will charge and are employed by mature adults rather than college kids who treat you like you are an inconvenience to their phone time. Love the equipment, but this place is filthy! I have watched it progressively getting dirtier since signing up two months ago. Locker room floors are gross, lockers are dirty. My last two visits (twice within the same week) there was no soap in the women’s locker room. Slipped and fell IN the lobby because they aren’t keeping up with the floors with winter. It is a nice gym, but it is flithy. The women's locker room is not cleaned, the bathroom stalls are dirty and so are the showers. I told one of the staff member and nothing happened. Went up the next day and it was still not cleaned. Also, had a horrible incident with a staff member and nothing was done about it. It is sad to see a new business not being taken care of by staff and/or mangement.

There is so much to choose from it is hard to get bored. Plenty of space so even when the parking lot looks busy, it doesn't feel that way inside. The crowd is diverse and the no judgement zone is the best for someone who is extremely self conscious like me!

Duluth now has one of the greatest gym facilities that exists at a very reasonable price and what you get for the price you can’t find you will not be able to find in Duluth. Planet fitness is the truth and after you finish with the intense workout, you can go and get a massage that’s priceless thank you Planet Fitness for making Duluth a better place.

I had high anxiety going in but I was able to go in and didn't get weird looks for being there. I love that the staff is there if I need them but otherwise they leave you alone to do your thing. Sign up was easy.

The only thing they clean is the front area. Most of the machines are filled with little hairs. The bathroom 🤢🤮 same dirt/hairs for days. Toilets never cleaned. It's pretty pathetic that this place is brand new looking like this!
