I went to cancel my membership a couple days after major knee surgery. It’s been two weeks of calling several times to try and get ahold of a manager who seems to be avoiding a conversation at all costs. The two workers had no idea how to cancel a membership when I went in and had to have an off duty employee leave their workout to assist. While I stood for several minutes on one leg. I’ve lost over $60 because of this and have yet to talk to a manager. Not for the lack of trying. Seriously, at least don’t have maple grove as your home location.

I arrived at 6:00 AM, the time this location is supposed to open, and the doors were locked. Multiple people were waiting, and by 7:00AM we were all still outside with no staff showing up to open the gym. TVs were on, lights off, but not a single employee in sight.

People plan their mornings around the hours that are advertised. To waste almost an hour of members’ time because no one bothered to show up is beyond unprofessional.

Know that if you cancel your membership after the 10th of the month, they will bill you for one more additional month even though you want to cancel the membership. They have you on a technicality because it’s written into the contract.

Imagine walking into a business as a customer and being shamed for inquiring and attempting to purchase the products that the business sells. This is what happened today at this PF location, as this location was out of Celsius drinks and one of the workers became very condescending about drinking energy drinks by talking about how bad energy drinks are for muscle growth.

Machines are poorly maintained, about half of them have some issue. For example, I made management aware of the broken seat on the biceps curl machine back in May. Three months later, the seat is still broken.

The gym also plays their background music over the top loud some days. Like night club level loud. I understand they gotta play something, but I play my music in my headphones loud enough that my phone gives me a disclaimer about hearing loss, and I'm just trying in vain to drown out the loud music this gym plays.

There's also a lack of AC. Unless you're directly under the ceiling fans where the treadmills are, it's too hot to comfortably work out in the summer.

I have other issues with this gym, but these are the big ones that have me encouraging my boyfriend to cancel his membership.

NO actual manager!! Workers during the weekday are LAZY! Machine's/treadmill is NOT maintained. They're all slowly breaking down, like this place. Only good worker worth mentioning is Anna. I believe that's her name, an underage worker...doing what managers should be doing! She handled this place like she owns it, not sure if she's still employed but I know she's a great worker and person. Trust me, use to be in HR. Overall, place needs to change and monitor the people walking in too!

Had a shocking and embarrassing experience with the manager Shauna while attempting to check in. Shauna made a huge scene, starting with yelling NOPE at me when I tried to to set my bags in the locker room and told me I would be asked to leave for saying "I don't know why you're yelling nope when I was trying to scan in and thought I couldn't do it without help" - This was after she ignored me at the register trying to scan in so she could continue chatting with another employee. She escalated to threatening to CALL THE COPS on me when I asked her to clarify if she is general or assistant manager for purposes of addressing this with member services. I will update my review with the response received on this matter.

1st update: Shauna called the cops while I was trying to calm down in my car in the public parking lot to issue a "trespass" banning me from returning to the gym; according to the officer she said I yelled at her. I did not raise my voice to her at all and I hope their security devices picked up that interaction.

Update 2: a complaint was filed through the web form on planetfitness.com. An email was sent to the email listed in the response. Shawna canceled my membership on Monday, leaving me unable to attend other locations. No refund was issued despite this payment only being in for 3 days leading up to Shawna doing this. I have not heard back at all at this time.

A few months ago, my fiancé went into Planet Fitness in Maple Grove with his father as a guest. They worked out, went tanning and sat in the massage chairs. He thought that was super awesome. So, since we are getting ready to go to Hawaii, my fiancé’s father told us that one of us should get a Black Card Membership as we would get the perks of bringing a guest to work out and use their spa area (tanning booths and massage chairs). Super excited about this we went in February 11, 2025 and my fiancé got the Black Card Membership. The three people working at the counter said it was totally fine if we went tanning and they got us in the stand up beds right away. After our tanning session they let us use the hydro massage beds as well. Friday February 14th, we went again to the gym to go tanning and the guy working the desk was supposed to set us up for 6 minutes in the lay down beds, yet my bed was only on for about 2 minutes and my fiancés turned off at 1 minute. We complained to the guy working and he said “oh the beds sometimes turn off after a few minutes and you don’t get the full time you asked for” (which has never happened to me in the past at any tanning place so I know he was trying to make up an excuse and not take the blame for messing up). Fast forward to today… the worst experience ever!!!! We walk in and there is about 7 people standing behind the desk flirting, chatting, drawing on employees hands and not caring that there were people at the desk. My fiancé signs in and says he is bringing me as a guest. Some dude with blonde hair said “oh you need to press refer a friend, have her fill out the questions and then she will be good to go” I said “I don’t want to sign up for a membership, I’m just coming as a guest”… he walked away… THEN Shawna comes up and said “oh you have to press this button (pointing to the bring a guest button) and then she needs to fill out the information. I told her this is weird because the last couple times we have come in, I have not had to fill this out. I only had to present my ID (which is what the sign said at the front desk). After I filled out the information we told her we wanted to go tanning. She said very rudely “nope that is just for the Black Card Members only”. Both my fiancé and I were confused and frustrated because we explained to her that we have done this before and there was no problem. She again said with a snoody attitude “well that is our policy and you should not have been able to do that”… there was no apology, nothing… she lacked so much customer service it makes me want to puke. Having worked in customer service for years, I would have done anything in my power to make things right. Even if it was “I’m so sorry… l will let you go tanning tonight but unfortunately after tonight we will have to follow our policy…” nothing! She just said that they are going through a big turn over… I don’t care… Shawna obviously didn’t train her associates on how to sell memberships and what a member can and cannot do, she didn’t try to make things better for us (which led us to cancel our membership) and we see here on Google that she has been called out before for her unprofessionalism. Why is she still working there. Maybe she should learn how to be a manager, rather than flirting with her coworkers and drawing cartoons on their hands. We will never get a membership there again.

I want to start by saying I got my black card membership less than 2 weeks ago and tonight I canceled it. When I signed up, a big plus was that I could bring my fiance with me and we could go tanning before our tripical vacation that's coming up (at least that's what I was told.) The night I signed up, my fiance and I went tanning, tried out the hydro massage, and the young man on staff was very kind and helpful. A couple nights later we went again. That time we went we didn't get as much time as we asked for, but hey, accidents happen. Tonight we went to go tanning. We get there and there are at least 7 staff members standing behind the counter goofing off and having there own conversations. This included the manager, Shauna, who was flirting with another staff member and pretending she was going to draw on him with a pen. All of this was taking place a foot away from where I was standing at the counter. I then asked if we could get 6 minutes on two tanning beds. That is when I was told by Shauna that I can tan but because my fiance isn't a member she can't. I then explained to her that that wasn't what we were told at signup and we have already been twice. Not to mention my father is a member and I went and used the tanning beds as his guest with no questions asked. Shauna didn't seem to care about any of it, refused to take accountability for her staff or the mix up, or offer to make it right.
I have spent a good portion of my life in customer service and sales, and I couldn't fathom treating my customers that way. If there was a mistake on my end, I would do everything to make it right and appologize profusely. Unfortunately for Planet Fitness, I don't think they pay Shauna enough to care about anyone but her self.
I would also like to point out that there are multiple 1 star reviews on here, all with horror stories about Shauna. If she was my employee, I'd tell her to kick rocks.

Great staff. Updated machines. Their brand of machine isolates muscles incredibly well. If your coming off knee surgery, 3 upcoming spine surgeries (minimally invasive) and have two torn labrums the machine is everything.
For instance, I couldn't isolate specific muscles in my core unless I'm completely still. The only place I can do this was physical therapy. Not any more!
Point being, the gym is for everyone.

Small, inconveniences are part of the price.
I have zero complaints.
Specifically at the maple grove facility. The rent a cop is ridiculous, FYI.
She stopped in front of potbelly and didn't move. If you're familiar with the area, there's no where to go. She can't stop there. Furthermore, she proceeded to follow me to planet fitness. She parked perpendicular to my car and demanded I listen to her. She boxed me in. I did listen to her lecture. She still didn't move. FYI planet fitness. Eventually she did when I raised my voice. Absolutely unnecessary.

For 20-30 $ a month compared to 135 $ at lifetime. No brainer. More than 50 % of people at lifetime are VERY rude. Not the case here. All their machines work. Lifetime nothing works.

Sorry for the poor grammar. ATM I can barely hold my head up. (Genetically small spinal cord, fyi you can get similar outcomes looking down constantly. )
Word to the wise. Don't take your health for granted.

The workout area is pretty clean. I'm an in and out guy so can't review the locker room or other areas. No bench press equipment or barbells. Only dumbbells and resistance machines (no plate loaded except a leg press machine). It is quiet and gets you the basic workout. They have plenty of stairmasters.

The dirtiest gym locker room I have seen. In a place like maple grove you wouldn’t think 1 out of two stalls are out of order and 2 out of three showers are out of order. Half of the shower area is in standing water and the employees don’t seem to care when an addressed. I worked at a Planet Fitness years ago and this is the year I cancel my membership. Needs more cable machines. People grab the only one, and will sit on it for an hour. They put their towels and phones by it, and then go do other things. And if you try to use the machine, they come running up to you telling you they're on it. The staff need to do a better job preventing this.

I look forward to going and working out because the Maple Grove, MN location has the most friendly staff ever! The manager, Shawna, goes above and beyond to make the clients feel welcome. I am always greeted with a smile and good morning and you never leave without a good-bye and have a wonderful day! I have a niece that I bring to workout with me who has special needs and Shawna and her staff go out of their way to talk to her, ask her about day, how many miles she plans to do on the treadmill and congratulate her for a job well done at the end of her workout. First time visit to this location, the woman's locker room reaks of perfume, very strong. I have scent sensitivity, I had to hold my breath, and put a towel over my nose and mouth just to use the rest room. The over powering scent also triggers migraine head aches for persons with this condition. This location will need a professional cleaning to get rid of the smell, if they can. The hydro bed number five quits and starts every sweep in the lumbar region, very disappointing.

Every time I’ve told them how long I want to go tanning they only do 6 mins. Waste of the $90 tanning lotion. Shoulda just stayed home and saved the gas. Have to re clean the bed. Don’t think they understand you should clean the top too. Also said they had no hot water tonight. I needed to shower and it worked just fine just the showers were so gross. This and the Blaine locations have left me crying over how rude they are about the tanning. Take it away if you can’t handle it.

Tried to stop in and do the 30 minute workout. A group of women clogging the area doing 'PERSONAL TRAINING'. Turns out she USED to be the on staff trainer. Now I have to compete for the rotation of someone from outside conducting business there. There’s a young lady named ‘T’ at the Maple Grove Planet Fitness whose bright face, big smile and warm greeting will make you glad you came…AND motivate you to come back. Overall five stars. I am just getting back to working out after three or so years and this has everything I need. The staff is super friendly and helpful. I have the black card membership and trust me. The tanning and the massage chairs are worth it just by themselves. I plan on bringing my wife too.

My only feedback is maybe a little more regulation in the 30 minute room. I was running circuits today and one or two times I had to pause my circuit because somebody decided to walk in use one or two machines and leave.

Those exact machines are on the floor too. It would be nice if somebody was around the general facility to let people know those are meant for circuits. If followed correctly, there will never be an issue. But I know, it’s difficult to enforce.

Super happy with this location and I’m super happy I found it.

I'd give it 4 stars if it was open on the weekend, but twice now I've been using equipment at the gym clearly was working out in an area with weights, water and mat...walk away for a moment just to have my spot taken over by the trainer and people training there. No respect for other people using the gym. They can't even wait to ask to have my stuff moved or wiped down before being used by other people and the trainer
