It was quite large and the crowd meter indicated it was peak workout time but there were plenty of machines available to do all the things, even though the parking lot was visibly full.

I found this hidden gem in Fridley and love it. I have no idea why I didn’t know about it sooner. These trainers know their stuff. Help you work at your level and increase at your own pace. Don’t wait any longer. Just go! Laid back low key friendly atmosphere. No intimidation.

I joined with no real expectations as I have been trying different things to lose weight for 7 years now. I did the food program and trained 1 on 1 each week and lost 18 pound in 6 weeks. i have continued there after that and love it. Barb is very down to earth, and knowledgeable. It really is a judgement free gym and they are all so friendly and encouraging. I like that they have different styles too so your not always doing the same thing. Would highly recommend.

I have trained at Protégé through many stages of my fitness journey from pre-pregnancy, throughout pregnancy and postpartum. At every stage, the trainers have been able to provide individual modifications to help me achieve my fitness goals which have ranged from improving overall strength, increasing a specific lift, improving a specific skill, and body composition changes. Classes are small compared to what you will find at most larger gyms which means you get more individualized attention. I love the feeling of community Protégé fosters and the amount of encouragement and positivity. Another advantage included in your membership is help with your diet/nutrition. I have worked out and played sports most of my life but I was also abusing my body I have struggled with eating disorders and body dysmorphia my whole life. I was having a conversation with Barb back in May telling her how unhappy I was and couldn’t stand to be in my own skin. I told her I was working out daily eating healthy and not losing weight. Barb told me about the Little Black Dress Program and I signed up right away! She gave me exactly what I needed through the Little Black Dress program. Barb provided me with a booklet of success I like to call it. It includes an eating plan along with grocery lists for the week and workouts with descriptions on how to properly do them along with tips for success. She answered all my questions either through email or texts. This is a life changing program! I have lost 20 lbs and have kept it off I continue to follow her program and feel amazing. In my 44 years this is the best I have ever felt in my own skin. I highly recommend Barb at Protege Fitness.

A great small business gym with an easy-going, unpretentious atmosphere. Definitely not a big box, one-size-fits-all operation.
Protege offers a wide variety classes and programs for all age, interest, and ability levels as well as one-on-one sessions with a personal trainer. The trainers are first rate and know their clients capabilities and fitness goals to provide the personalized attention critical to getting results. Memberships are competitively priced and offer the flexibility to accommodate individual schedules and needs.
In addition to the physical training services, clients also learn about diet, nutrition, weight control, and mental attitude. There are also on-site massage therapy and chiropractic services that coordinate with the trainers to provide clients with rehab or health maintenance needs.
Overall a very enjoyable place to work out either on your own or with your friends that balances fun and hard work to achieve and maintain personal health and fitness goals.

Protege Fitness has been an absolute amazing experience for me. 3 years ago my mental and physical state was very low and through one on one coaching and training I have never felt better. I’m more confident and healthy at 51 the I was at 25. Barb is very knowledgeable and patient. The gym really focuses on the individual and their goals. It is not about just loosing weight Barb wants to see people make it a lifelong lifestyle of being fit and healthy while having fun while doing it! High recommend this place!

Love this fitness studio! The trainers are extremely knowledgeable and they truly care about their clients. They get to know their clients and their clients' limitations and strengths. They are all about helping people set and reach their goals. Working with them has helped to significantly reduce my joint pain. I have been going to Scott and Barb for almost 6 months now and I have to say, I have felt and seen much improvement in my strength and physique. From losing weight and food control, to supplements and working through injuries, they both are good about keeping you feeling good about getting up so early and getting to the gym. There workouts are challenging and definately get you sweating. I wouldn't feel half as good as I do without their help.

I have been a client for almost 3 months and I am completely BLOWN AWAY! Barb and Scott have created a positive and encouraging community that welcomes all fitness levels. If you feel like you have been struggling in the past to lose weight, you have found your forever home. I have tried many diets over the last 4 years and have had success. However, what I learned was inaccurate and unsustainable for making a lifestyle change. They were diets! Since coming to Protégé, I have done a complete turnaround on my eating and thinking. No longer am I starving myself, but I am fueling my body to lose fat and gain muscle. The number on the scale no longer matter (yes, you heard that right!) The best thing of all is that I get to actually eat food and see results!
The workouts are challenging, full of supportive high-fives, and powerful! They change each day which keeps your body guessing for faster fat loss. I love repeating exercises more often than I have in the past because I am able to see my progress as I grow. When I started 3 months ago, I could not lift the lightest kettlebell over my head. Now, I see progress as I can lift and carry an 18kg kettlebell over my head. I love seeing my strength go through the roof! I also like working on my balance and building up my endurance.

This place is fantastic. I came the first time because a friend invited me (and I really like my friend otherwise there is no way I would have gone since I hate typical gyms). I came back a second time because Scott and Barb, the owners and trainers, connected with me right away and made me feel at ease even after not regularly exercising in years. I kept coming back because of my health. Never before have I seen a place that fits EVERYONE like Protege. Classes were fun and challenging with every range of ability. The trainers are the perfect balance of pushing me to do things I didn't think I could, and encouraging the process. I love feeling stronger. I've been going to Protege Fitness for 4 months since I moved to Minnesota. I thought I was in pretty good shape since I'd been doing CrossFit for about 5 years. Yes, I was one of those who couldn't stop talking about how great CrossFit was! I've been working out in some form for the 27 years I was in the Air Force to maintain my fitness level, but it was nothing like this. The first ProCircuit class I attended at Protege kicked my butt! It was harder for me than any CrossFit workout I had ever done, but in all good ways. Between the two of them, Scott and Barb are the complete package providing strength training, rehabilitation and nutritional education. Their goal is to educate their clients to become partners in their fitness journey. The combination of body weight and kettle bell exercises creates an extremely efficient and effective strength and cardio workout unlike any I have experienced. Scott and Barb identified areas of muscle imbalance and weakness during my 1:1 sessions and targeted my training to correct them. I have stenosis in my lower back and had unknowingly been favoring my left leg due to sciatic pain. The exercises they gave me have corrected that imbalance as well as imbalance in my upper back and shoulders. I couldn't do simple walking lunges when I started; now I can do them, pain free, carrying weight. My body composition has changed significantly as I've replaced body fat with muscle. Barb and Scott are always watching to provide feedback on form and challenge me to push myself to do better safely, whether I'm in a ProCircuit, Kettle bell or individual session. I honestly can say I haven't been in such great physical condition in 40 years! I count on Protege Fitness to help me stay strong and active as I move into my middle 60s and beyond!

After 2 assessments with Scott, I started the targeted exercises recommended. I have always worked out 5-6 times a week. It takes a lot for me to sweat and make my muscles feel like they have reached the maximum fatigue. Every time I walk out of Protege fitness, I'm sweating my ass off and feeling like I have had the most challenging workout of my life! I always wonder how Barb and Scott will continue to change it up to keep me from getting bored or plateauing and they always succeed. They modify each workout to the specific individual in class whether it's your first day working out or 5th workout of the week. They have pushed me to lift more and are always modifying my form so I have the best results. Bonus: they make working out fun (which seems hard to believe, I know).
