I CANNOT stress how amazing this gym is! The people are friendly, the walls are difficult, the owners are very kind and everything is priced fairly for a lone business! If you and your family are looking for fun, make sure to take a stop here at Roca, especially during the competitions!!

I want to express my appreciation for ROCA staff and the owners. They go above and beyond to make climbing accessible to everyone. I work at a non-profit that supports adults with disabilities. Monthly, ROCA invites our group in while they are closed so that the people we serve can learn to climb. We pay a small fee, which by no means covers the staff time that they put into supporting our group. They purchase adaptive equipment and are constantly thinking of new ways to make climbing accessible to people of all abilities. They encourage us to side climb so that we can support the person as they make their way up the wall. The memories that I have made at ROCA with our supported people are so meaningful. There is nothing more beautiful than someone that thought they would never climb, due to mobility, making it to the top of the wall. I get the pleasure of seeing true joy in their eyes. At ROCA, there are no barriers.
The staff are humble and kind. They do not work with our group to make money. They do it because they want to make an impact on each personβs life.
I cannot express my gratitude enough to Jeremy, Karen, Sarah, Brock, Berrick, Daniel, and all others that have volunteered their time. They are wonderful humans.
Support ROCA. They exemplify what community is in Rochester.

My girlfriend and I are really new to rock climbing. We did our first climbs at the walls in the Mall of America and really wanted to try it again. We had a fantastic time, and this really cemented in our apprication for the hobby. 10/10 I do plan on recommending to other people!

This was a visit with a group - one of the group was a member...
The experience was fantastic and so much fun! I was a first time rock climber. Owners and staff were well trained, watched the climbers closely, were great instructors, and overall it was a very safe experience. I thought prices were reasonable for such a great experience!

Great climbing gym, very glad it is here in Rochester. I used to live out west and hike and climb outdoors. My climbing gym experience is in Utah, Kansas, and Wisconsin. Roca offers a good mix of routes and variety of features such as cracks, corners, aretes, and overhangs that help to build towards outdoor skills in natural settings. While there is not much bouldering, there are many routes that are nice to practice and grow on. My least favorite climb gyms are where routes are all either too easy or too advanced. I also like that there are numerous setters. At one gym in KS most of the routes were set by one guy who tended to repeat himself with holds and moves. Check it out. This will be a welcoming climb gym for newcomers.

Hands down the worst gym Iβve ever had the displeasure of climbing at. Everything implemented into this gym is below industry standards. Quality of the equipment is literal bottom bucket of the industry in desperate need of replacement, and to top it off the walls are short.
Gauging from their memberships being on sale, trading of memberships for route setting, frayed ropes, antiquated lead walls and anchors, and INSANELY low quality bouldering mats (no surprise a kid broke his arm there a few weeks ago), itβs safe to say this gym is seriously hurting financially.
Owner brags about his extensive experience - all of which is in the Midwest and itβs clear he is completely out of touch with climbing in the 21st century.
We can only hope that a standup person with actual climbing experience purchases this liability (not an asset) and gives Rochester a real climbing gym. Too bad they canβt find a buyer (no surprise).

Fantastic climbing gym. I have been a member here for 7 years and have loved every second of it. The owners and staff are -absolutely fantastic, the community is amazing, and the facility is top notch. I have climbed at over 15 gyms across the country, and genuinely can say the at Roca is one of the best I have been to.

I feel obligated to comment on a recent review of Roca. As a long-time member and climber, I believe it's important to share a balanced perspective. Roca is a fantastic climbing gym with an exceptional community, unlike any Iβve experienced in my six years here and the 50+ gyms Iβve visited worldwide including the gyms I currently climb at while living in Salt Lake City.
Regarding the incident mentioned, I was present and observed the individuals acting incredibly rude and confrontational towards staff members who were simply enforcing standard policies. Their behavior was immature and involved unnecessary swearing and aggression from the very start. It's unfortunate that their dissatisfaction led to such a harsh review, as it doesnβt reflect the welcoming and inclusive enviorment that Roca genuinely offers.
In my extensive climbing experience, Iβve found Rocaβs facilities to be safe and well-maintained, contrary to what was implied. The staff are dedicated and professional, and it's disappointing to see them subjected to unwarranted criticism. Roca doesnβt deserve to be disparaged by a few individuals throwing a fit because they didn't get their way.

This gym is a disappointment to the climbing community. Traditionally, the climbing community is a supportive, welcoming place, and itβs unfortunate that Rochesterβs only gym is run by someone with an impolite, unpleasant, and hostile personality. The owner has proven himself to be misogynistic, egotistical, and dismissive of legitimate safety concerns. As for the gym itself, Roca is a low-tier establishment with poor quality equipment. I recently saw another one star review regarding a child being injured here, and I'm certain it was due to Roca's inferior standards for equipment. If another climbing gym were to open within a 30-mile radius of Rochester, I have no doubt Roca would be run out of business tomorrow.

My son just ended up with a cast on his wrist at ROCA summer camp (2024) during the first week of his summer because the staff let kids to participate in climbing games without harnesses and he fell! If I had known there would be climbing without harnesses/protection, I would NEVER have sent my kids to ROCA summer camps. Very disappointing!

Easily the best gym I have been to. I've been to many climbing gyms, but none that came close to the number of auto belays (38!). Keep in mind that auto belays are expensive so most places only have 10-15 at most. The wall layout is really well designed and makes good use of space. Routes are fun and varied. I saw routes for every skill level, and I would say there are enough routes at every skill level to keep everyone happy, which is rare. There's a whole beginners section, or for kids birthday parties. Most routes fell into the 5.7-5.11 range which will satisfy most people, and there are plenty of routes above that for the experts. There's a huge boulder in the middle of the gym which is 16' so it's too tall for my taste. I am so impressed by this gym... it may be the only one in the area but it is amazing.

My daughter (10yo) and I just finished our last parent/child class. It was amazing. Manuel and Greg are great instructors and I'm pleased Roca chooses to have two instructors. I was pleasently surprised at how much they made it fun for both the kids and adults. They pushed both of us to learn, try new things, succeed and fail to get better, improve technique and fall in love with climbing. Thanks Greg and Manuel and I would recommend this place and this class.

Both of my children and my husband climb at Roca. My son is on team and loves it. The walls are great, the lessons are awesome, but it's the staff that makes this place amazing. Every one of the coaches cares about their climbers. They take safety seriously. They celebrate their victories and help them work through their frustrating days. Could not be happier with the community my kids are getting at Roca. Keep up the great work!

A good amount of top roping routes of various degree are available, which is nice. It would be better if they were better at labeling grades of routes but that's not a huge deal. A larger bouldering area would be nice as well, maybe using some of the open floor space for a bouldering expansion would be a nice idea. I can't hope for it to be like Prairie, but they can use more of the gyms space. Overall, Roca is a pretty nice climbing gym.

I climb here all the time and love it. They have such a good staff. Roca makes climbing fun for all ages and levels of ability. They have a smaller boulder, lots of top rope climbs, ten-ish auto belays, and lead climbing on the routes you top rope on. They also have a lead only wall that is on an overhang. Their pro shop is a little expensive, but if you have a membership you get a discount. Overall Roca is a great place.

Climb here as often as I can. 3-5 times a week. Really enjoy the place. Facility is very open and inviting. Clean (in consideration with volume of people and amount of chalk we all use), and the owners and staff is a+. They Have lots of pointers and are very good at managing risk. They make this a nurturing learning environment for everybody of all ages and abilities. I genuinely encourage those of your reading these reviews thinking maybe I wanna go.
