I absolutely love the RAC! My hubby uses the e gym which is so cool and state of the art. I mainly do dance and workout classes and cannot imagine my day without them! So many different choices for workouts and classes and very friendly staff! So grateful we have the RAC!!

Great facility but weird rules…you can’t apply for membership on weekends and have to have an appointment if you want to apply for a membership. I work a day job and can’t make most of their appointments so unfortunately it could not work out.

Told me they can give me a free trial to try out their gym for one day. Had to pay the $20 fee to get in anyway. Also who the hell charges $20 for a single day use for a gym? Highway robbery. Disappointing for visitors and newcomers.

Really have no idea why they just spent all this money on cardio equipment no one uses but fail to update the weights from 2-3 decades ago.

Also the gym floors are disgusting. Get rubber floors for the sake of cleanliness. That should be a priority.

Very expensive but this gym offers a lot and is the only one with child care in the city… (even though you have to pay extra if your child is under 6). Also frustrating at the amount of unsupervised kids and teens there are. So often I want to use a machine and someone is just sitting there on their phone. Today in the EGYM area, this girl sat on one machine for over 20 min and I had to ask her to move and then she sits on another machine on her phone! Shes not there to workout. It’s annoying! And then the amount of swearing, yelling, teens running around. It’s frustrating when you have young kids or you’re trying to actually work out, especially for the price you pay! I can only use the family locker room because I have a young son with me and yet even in there it’s always full of single adult men who use it just to have more room to themselves. My second week here there was a fight near the lobby and nothing was done about it. Then I went out to my car and witnessed one teen crash their car into another teen. A few weeks later I go to my car and can’t drive home because two teens cars blocked my car in because they were fighting. It’s just becoming more annoying as the weeks go by because this is just the norm here…
Btw there’s a 1 year contract. So idk, if nothing changes I don’t think I will renew next year.

I've had a membership here for 90%+ (moved out of state for a moment) of the last 10 years. The #1 thing I like about the RAC is that the membership I pay is used to maintain the facility and upgrade equipment. In the past 10 years, I've seen multiple upgrades in either the facility or the equipment. I have never in my time walked into this place and thought it was dirty or unkept for even a moment. You get your money's worth, regardless of how much the membership is. It's worth every penny.

This gym was probably state-of-the-art in the year 2000. Much of the equipment is old: the weight and cable machines are the exact models my high school gym had 20+ years ago. The carpet floors are also antiquated and unsanitary. I’m shocked they haven’t transitioned to rubber flooring or vinyl tile, which is the industry standard in the modern world. Carpet absorbs sweat and moisture, and it’s a breeding ground for bacteria/mold/odor; it can’t be adequately disinfected in a high-traffic athletic environment. It seems like the gym is trying to update and make changes, and I will gladly give them a 5-star review when they do.

Fox News on the TVs is off-putting. I would guess a large portion of the members here are Mayo or IBM. Know your audience: an educated population doesn’t want Fox shoved down their throats.

Despite these drawbacks, the gym is one of the better places Rochester has to offer. The facility is always clean, and the staff is consistently friendly and polite. The pools, courts, and indoor track are all wonderful amenities. With some updates and minor changes, this place could be fantastic.

Lots of options here. Free weights, machines, plenty of cross training equipment, eGym, indoor and outdoor pool, saunas, steam rooms, massage. Helpful apps to track your progress and how busy it is before you go. Nice locker rooms and showers. The smoothies from the Market are always tasty too. We love the RAC!

Tried to visit as a walk-in and was turned away. They don’t offer day passes to Rochester residents, which is incredibly frustrating. Instead, you’re expected to schedule an interview for membership consideration, which feels akin to applying for a job rather than simply trying to exercise.

As someone who would realistically use the gym two times a week maximum, the membership cost is hard to justify. I would effectively be paying full price to subsidize people who are there daily. I left feeling like this place is more concerned with exclusivity than community. Definitely not for me.

The Rochester Athletic Club is an excellent, family oriented facility where, as a long time member, I have never thought that the facility or equipment was 'showing it's age'. After leaving my wonderful PT appointment I had to kinda stretch my legs. So, I figured I’d visit the little store there because they always have cool stuff. The cherry on top is how nice the staff treated me today. It was like she was so understanding and welcoming. I thank God for active PT. and I’m super grateful that it’s connected to the R.A.C. 💙

I will never recommend this gym you have men getting in the hot tub with private parts out you have them just walking around the restroom with private parts out with kids in there which is crazy to me and so unacceptable especially with the gym promoting kid and teen friendly I want my child and myself to feel comfortable and safe when going to the bathroom I think this is a bad problem and needs to get fixed fast I understand it’s a family type gym just there should be certain rules and regulations in place this is so unacceptable on so many levels

We have been allowed to train here with a training group once a week for the Air Force. The facility’s and the staff are both amazing. We appreciate the flexible staff and how they allow us to utilize the facilities to our needs much appreciation to this facility and the staff!!

In the evenings, the men's changing room has the atmosphere of a high school locker room.

I have unresolved questions and reservations as to the integrity, the clarity, and the application of RAC's billing practices. In the course of nine moths I was consistently charged for services I was not receiving. The RAC maintained I contracted for those services and that the RAC was under no obligation to notify me that none of those services had been used by me in the nine months they continued to bill me for those services even though they would have known that in several of those months I never set foot on the place. I was refunded $2,288 for the services never used, but I remain of the impression that the RAC had hoped I wouldn't discover the error and continue to pay for services not utilized. I believe a more reputable business would not have allowed a billing error of this magnitude to continue to accrue as ongoing for nine months without at least reaching out to question why I would continue to pay for services I was never using. It was only by luck triggered by another investigation that I caught the mistake. As a result I no longer have any trust that the RAC has created billing practices and policies which are designed to serve fairly and honestly the interests of both the RAC and the patrons it serves and cannot therefore recommend it to anyone.

Excellent club for all your family. Be aware of crowded times during the day. The indoor pool is a great place during all seasons. Also, they have great playgrounds for the kids on different ages. I feel important when coming here. Not only do the front desk employees make you feel welcomed, but the quality of this place makes you feel welcome too. I love the fact that you can go exercise and shower before you leave. Everything you need is provided; from towels, to shampoo and conditioner! Great experience so far.

RAC was an unexpected find after we moved here for a city this size! It’s large enough to accommodate all members. This is hands down the cleanest facility I’ve ever been to. I have never been there without seeing an employee cleaning and restocking the changing rooms. The staff is exceptional as well. They are always so cheerful, positive and helpful. Regardless of your size and fitness level they are there to help!

They have a plethora of equipment to target any muscles that you want to. The pool is nice and warm, and the hot tub is amazing. I almost fell asleep. They have a sauna and steam room there. If you like basketball, tennis, or even racket ball, then it's a great place to go. The staff was friendly and very helpful when I needed directions. All in all, it's probably the best gym I've ever been to or even seen in my life!

4/12/2023 I have been a member at the RAC for a couple years now. It really is an amazing place that the whole family can enjoy. Honestly, I loved it so much, I got a job there. And I can tell you the greatness that is shown on the outside is just as great if not even better on the inside. The people that work there truly care about members and their experience. I love being a member as much as having a a supplemental job there. Join for the amenities, you’ll stay for the people.

8/26/2021 follow up. I am a RAC fan. They have done nothing but improve since I have been here. We have taken advantage of the birthday party options where they take care of everything, martial arts classes, and the child care. All are a little added cost but well worth it. Very clean and the staff are friendly.

I've been a member for about 2 months now and started out using the eGym. I love how its all set for you, and you can come, workout, and don't have to think about what you're going to do, how the machine needs to be adjusted, or how much weight is best.

Steve and Josh were great with the personalized training and got me a routine I need to get fit and stay loose.

Pricey but well worth it! This is one of the nicest fitness facilities I've worked out at. I was visiting from out of town, and the RAC has day passes available for purchase by guests, who aren't affiliated with a club member. I swam both days I went, and the pool setup (25m lap pool + separate family pool) was outstanding. Locker rooms are spacious and full of nice amenities. The club is also very family-friendly but not to the point that kids are intrusive. The RAC is massive and includes an indoor track (9 laps/mile) and multiple courts in addition to standard cardio and weight training areas. If you're looking for an all-inclusive fitness facility, this is it.

A large beautifully maintained recreation center with two indoor saltwater pools, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, childcare, exercise studios, Pilates, yoga, hot tubs and more.
