One thing I really love about the YMCA is that it’s open to everyone. It feels welcoming, and I feel comfortable every time I’m here especially in the morning. I usually come between 5:35 AM and 6:00 AM, Monday through Saturday. I’ve taken so many classes, including TRX Core, Cycle/Stretch, Muscle Pump, Zumba, Swimming, Deep Water Fitness, Pilates, and Bootcamp. I want to take even more classes in the future. I’m excited to try different classes like Step Interval and H.I.I.T. I also hope the YMCA will offer Bungee in the future, because I really want to try it as well.

When I joined the ymca in April of 2024 I was very overweight and hadn't worked out in over 10 years so I was very intimidated. I was pleasantly surprised by how comfortable I was with the atmosphere and the feeling of no judgment from others. As of today, through my hard work and inspiration from others, I have lost 115 pounds and consider the ymca a way of life and I couldn't imagine my life without it!
Thanks ymca and all the staff!

Often times it seemed very unorganized, children spent way too much time just standing around and playing catch. Many times children seem to be running everything instead of the adults, a lot of chaos with kids arguing with coaches and coaches not intervening. Children arguing with coaches, nonstop, and coaches not really saying anything. Tuesdays were supposed to be practice days and Thursday games. There really was not much for drills at all. Just playing catch with themselves and games. Pretty disappointed in the effort put in by the YMCA

I have had a membership for 3 years here. I took my children to the pool this week and had an awful experience with the lifeguards on duty. I wasn’t surprised to see other 1 star reviews about the lifeguards guards on here also.
They are completely rude and have no customer service or communication skills. One of the teenage male lifeguards yelled at my daughter after blowing the whistle right on top of her. He was out of line for talking to a child like this. My daughter was so scared and we left the pool. I’m cancelling my membership this week.
The mission of the YMCA includes: support young people, make new friends and contribute to a stronger, more cohesive community for all.
Your lifeguards dropped the ball and I’ll be dropping my family membership. I will pass along my experience to family and friends as well.

The YMCA St. Cloud offers a beautiful facility with a swimming pool and a lazy river. My children were enthusiastic to go swimming so we purchased a day pass. My child is seven and the other one is nine. Both children have been swimming their entire lives. However, my seven-year-old was not allowed in the lazy river without a parent touching him at all times. The overzealous lifeguard was on a power trip and felt the need to overly enforce policy. He said my seven-year-old could not go swimming by himself until he was nine despite the fact that he’s a very good swimmer and the lazy river is only waist deep. We wasted money on a day pass that we weren’t able to use because my seven year-old naturally doesn’t want to be touching his mother the entire time he’s in a swimming pool.
Thanks to the 14-year-old life guard with no life experience running the show Our fun afternoon was altered. Would not come back here again we were considering a membership, but I refuse to give my money to any place that’ll allow a 14-year-old dictator to bully other kids. This policy would only be appropriate if my child didn’t know how to swim. At some point in life, parents should be allowed to make the decision

I decided to cancel my membership due to the poor cleanliness of the facility. The pool is often not well maintained, and some individuals enter the water wearing clothing that is not appropriate for swimming. Additionally, the place is frequently overcrowded and lacks proper hygiene standards.

I usually don’t bother writing reviews, but the St. Cloud YMCA has let me down repeatedly to the point I feel obligated. First off, the hidden fees are ridiculous. I paid $90 for my first month just for a basic membership with no transparency about the breakdown. They throw in a signup fee and barely explain anything upfront. The staff? Rude and unhelpful. Every time I ask for assistance, all they do is tell me to “check the website.” No one actually walks you through how things work they’re just focused on selling you the membership.
The atmosphere inside is also uncomfortable. I’ve witnessed members being openly rude to children and people of color, which is completely unacceptable. Staff seems to ignore it. The lifeguards act like fun is illegal. You’ll get scolded for pretty much anything, even in family swim areas.
The rock wall which they advertise like it’s a major feature is barely ever open. A few hours a week at best. Want to climb without staff? That’s another $30 on top of your membership. It’s absurd. I also planned to relax after workouts in the hot tub, but now they’re closing it an hour before the gym shuts down making it useless if you work late. I get off at 7PM, and by the time I get there and workout, everything’s shut down or winding down.
Tried signing up for the 30$ rock climbing class they said “schedule isn’t out yet.” It’s always the same runaround.
All in all, this place is severely overpriced for subpar service. I’m canceling my membership today though even that requires a month’s notice. What a joke. You’re better off literally anywhere else. I hope they fix this because its a nice place just a messy management

I thought the instructors did a great job maybe gave the students a little too much free time at the end of each da. but my daughter enjoyed the free time. She said she didn’t think it was too much. I feel some parents are putting their kids in the wrong level Is there someway you can manage that better. Thank you.

This place is terrible, staff hate their job, are not trained to do anything but make sure ppl scan their card and call the police when someone loses it and snaps (they didn’t call the police on me, but they do it very quick on others for the most mundane of issues, but not on the stuff that should matter)
The lifeguards operate with an iron whistle and have zero respect, but then care more about monitoring the pool features than they do about stopping unsafe activities)
They are in desperate need of facility maintenance but instead they hire 6 more ppl who do absolutely nothing! (In 2023 they netted almost 8 million, but likely that was from Biden era grantalls - this place is literally a model for liberalism and what would happen if the left had dominion over society, it could be like an interactive liberal case study, spend a few hours and report back)
The grout is missing in about a thousand location just in the splash pad area, but don’t use the splash pad, or God forbid, let your kids play with the water features or some dork with a whistle is going to exile you… like literally kick you out for 3 year old kids playing with the water features that they put there, but because they never do maintenance, don’t allow anyone to use or the fountain heads might need to be updated and maintenanced! And they will yell at said children constantly, even to the point of making them cry!
Oh and all the reviews that mention high chlorine levels, it’s not actually why it burns your eyes… that chloramine, and Chloroamine actually reduces the chlorine level of the pool, by chemical reaction between chlorine and urea(urine), the Chloramines are generated and quickly evaporate into Chloramine gas filling the air with toxic fumes that burn your eyes and smells like more bleachy than straight bleach somehow!

The teachers do great with the students, & the skills are taught in an easily learnable fashion. The one down side is that the children spend close to half or more - and when only one teacher, a lot more - of the class standing around watching other students practice. In the case of students whose learning style is not observing, this is a lot of wasted learning time. However, I do also see a benefit in teaching the children patience and obedience in this way.

I am reaching out to express my concern regarding what appears to be excessively high chlorine levels at the pool in your facility. The chemical odor is overpowering even before entering the pool area, and it has caused noticeable discomfort such as eye irritation and difficulty breathing.
As a member of the YMCA community, I’m very concerned about the health effects this may pose—particularly for children, seniors, and those with asthma or other respiratory sensitivities. I understand that chlorine is necessary for sanitation, but the levels currently in use seem well beyond what is healthy or safe.
I respectfully request that the pool's chlorine levels and air quality be reviewed immediately to ensure they are within recommended public safety guidelines. I’d also appreciate a response detailing any steps being taken to investigate and address this issue.

I am leaving a one-star because I have talked to the pool director about this issue and they will not address it they just said it's state mandate law how much chlorine they put in. It is absolutely not state law! The chlorine is way too high, I can literally smell the chlorine on my kids when they come home and we also have gotten headaches from how high the chemicals are. Also the pool feels like complete bath water and their excuses will we have to accommodate the older folks yeah I get that but what about everybody else.

Not a great first impression....
I signed up my family for a membership after hearing great reviews. During enrollment they gave me a quick rundown of the general membership and then every question I asked I was directed to the website. The next day me and the family were excited to come and try out our new membership. When we got there we were told the pool was not available for open swim. I was originally told the pool was open the same hours as the facility but apparently the website would have told me otherwise. We then asked where the kidzone was located and when we arrived the kid zone worker sent us back up to the front without asking us for any information. The front had no idea why we were sent up and after back and forth on the phone with each other the result was that they were now too full. So now we are leaving with 2 very disappointed kids and very frustrated with our first experience. It would be helpful if your staff actually provided this information during the signup instead of directing me to a website and not being able to communicate within your own company.

The YMCA is one of my favorite places in St. Cloud. This is truly an inclusive community space where all walks of life are represented.
I regularly attend the excellent workout classes. My favorites are group cycle and strength interval training. I love that classes are included in the gym membership, and there are SO many options to choose from throughout the week.
I also enjoy using the steam room and sauna after a good workout.
The Y is extremely clean and well-managed, with friendly staff and volunteers. Highly recommend!

I've been a member since 2013. I was in a wheelchair. This is where I re-learned how to walk. My son learned how to swim. We have a lot of great memories. Most of the staff are very friendly, helpful, and aware. The couple of times that I did have problems those issues were addressed when it was brought to their attention. Thank you YMCA. My biggest issue is that they close at 9:00 p.m. it makes it difficult to schedule a time to get in there when people have jobs and families during the week I wish you guys would stay open until 10:00.

I liked the ymca for the classes. However, I am a stay at home mom and wanted to have somewhere to bring the kids while I workout and get a little break. I have a 1 year old, 6 year old, and 8 year old. My 8 year old told me that my daughter (1) fell down the steps which are very high and steep in the play area and no one was watching her or helping her. I talked to the manager about it and she said she would address it. My children also get yelled at for holding/ carrying their little sister. I tried bringing them back the next week, and the same thing happened again. There was no adult watching her and she fell down them again. My husband died from a head injury and I have much trauma and fear of my children getting injured. I shouldn’t have to worry about whether or not someone is properly watching my 1 year old. I will be cancelling my membership.

I love the lazy river. However I do not love the fact that it seems hard to find a time to go into the water with all the swimming lessons, and I do not always feel the water is clean. I also was upset when they closed the pool because of accidents in the water. This just grossed me out. I was also surprised to see a child about 2 1/2 naked, without a suit or diaper jumping off the decking. They did clean this up, but it makes me want to bring my own test strip.

The weights area, gym area and cardio areas are typically really busy. The staff appear to be untrained on common information such as childcare info, rock wall info, schedules, cancellations etc. We also have brought our kids to the pool only to find out we had to wait for availability since it was at capacity. It’s not very fun having two kids and a baby wait for a pool while they had the expectation of swimming right away. We’ve found ourselves frustrated many times with this gym due to staffing errors.

Tried to get a day pass to the pool for our first visit. We were planning on getting a membership after our pool visit and checking the place out more. Forgot our wallet and left in the middle of filling out paperwork.. was gone maybe 10 minutes. The guy was still filling all our stuff out and said he would charge us when we got back. Got back and the guy was gone and the chick next to him turned us away. What the heck? What would happen if we actually had a membership and wanted to swim? No other options in the mean time? Why couldn’t my daughter play in the play are till capacity went down? Why is it that our money is no good? So if we had a membership we still wouldn’t be able to use the facilities you are saying…? Super rude facility staff and 100000% will not be back and our daughter will be doing swim lessons elsewhere. Such a huge disappointment.

Been going there for years. I had an Old profile picture and the dude working said it doesn’t look like me. Didn’t have my wallet on me so he wouldn’t let me in. Went straight to another gym and bought a membership. Sad

Leave it to the Y to decide to close the gym for basketball since there is only 50 to 100 people in the gym at a time when playing basketball to decide to run pickleball all day. I go there and not a single person on the courts playing pickleball. If anything they need more courts for basketball. Absolute insanity whoever is making these decisions. Terribly run.

The YMCA is very very crowded. I enjoy the things offered but it’s definitely overcrowded. I would like to see more times available for Zumba classes as they are always overcrowded. It would be great to have an additional area for weight training or some duplicate machines for the ones that are more frequently liked/used/popular. You almost always have to wait for machines. $40 is expensive for a membership in my opinion. I just started in January and think I will already end my membership once it’s not the winter months. I like the YMCA but don’t love it as its overcrowded. Also the rock climbing wall should be regularly changed up so it offers new challenges and experiences. I believe it should be changed up at least once a month.

The place is huge. They have at least 5-6 different pools and multiple basketball courts on the lower level, upper level is packed with all different kinds of weights and running/walking track. Also an awesome looking rock climbing wall.
They also let groups reserve rooms, Monday nights there is a Smart recovery meeting there.

NEW 6 STARS! - CONSIDERING A GYM? - PLEASE READ THIS!
I've had several weeks of using this facility. My advice for anyone looking for a gym or still putting up with Sta-Futz; a dated, dirty, crowded, sub-standard gym, with old equipment, hostile owners, and frankly everything you hate in a workout place - come to the Y! A great place!
Your eyes will be opened to the best place in St. Cloud to workout, and the best price too. Lots of new equipment, clean and spacious locker rooms, wonderfully bright with many windows, a sauna AND steam room. And, best of all staff who actually care about people, not smug self important 'owners' who are only after the dollar.
Full disclosure... Sta-Futz unilaterally 'suspended" my 'senior' membership after 25+ years as a member - for one rule violation - I used a razor in the sauna to get some bits I missed. Yes they spy on you, and no warnings either!
Apparently a new rule - never posted before - my bad. I think they just discriminate against us "old" folks, but they miss the point that their aging substandard filthy facility will be gone long before we and our kids are, so stay away. Join the Y!
UPDATE: 11/23: **** Four Stars with a caveat. Since they finally take my Medicare senior plan, and I can use the facility, I've been going there. I liked it a lot more than I thought I would. Lots of cars in the parking lot, but it's not that busy in the middle of the afternoon. The biggest problem is that this facility, and nearly every other public facility, has no clue about how to run a Sauna. They really shouldn't say it's a Sauna, just a slightly warm room. Any Scandinavian person would be appalled at the temperature of the YMCA Sauna. It's 15 to 20° below what it needs to be. I don't care what they say about code, insurance companies, etc. A Sauna is a HOT room. It should be 200° at the ceiling, 180° at shoulder height, and probably 140° on the lower bench. Anything else is substandard and a complete waste of time. The point of a legitimate sauna is to raise your heart rate. If you have to sit in it for a half hour and it doesn't do that, you're just wasting your time. Stay-Fit has a much better Sauna, because it meets at least the minimal standard.
Update 4/2022... Now...after FOUR years this Y starts finally taking Silver Sneakers.

Went swimming (a few months ago), my brother got his phone stolen, my jacket pockets were torn through. If you go here, USE A LOCKER. They also took like an hour to get all of our information into the system before we could use the facility.

I don’t like this place sooo much probably because of their staffs. Because once I had an interview with them and i walked in the front desk staff said he’ll go tell the manager and I waited for about 10 mins ish! The other thing is the manger seems so impatient to me. I felt disrespectful during that interview! Bc I’m an Asian? Who knows. Anyways I don’t really recommend this place!

I love swimming here. They used to have a little store by the entrance with coloring books and incense, place was really nice. Their pool is great, not too cold and usually not to busy to the point there's like no room for you to move.
I really like the lap pool though it is really cold when you first get in, it's to help slow your heart rate and help breathing slower when going under. I like how deep it gets, I love diving as I go further down the pool. I do notice however when taking a break at the edge I get kinda angry looks from the life guards as if I'm not supposed to sit in the pool for 5 minutes before starting laps again. It's not like I'm playing around while catching my breath. The lazy river is nice but I wish they had tubes to sit in, it's a small area so that's probably why they don't.
The hot tub is nice but I don't understand why u have to be 18 if your just gonna sit next to your parent for a couple minutes.

I am upset because I was told that this YMCA had “Kid Zone” for my kids to be while I work out and the whole reason for me signing us up was because I wanted my kids to get out of the house and possibly interact with other kids and I didn’t get that. There’s no way to go past this sign in because my youngest is only for months. I called and the couldn’t and wouldn’t help. I couldn’t just show up there with my kids and I had no online help. I paid for a membership that I could not even use and I feel cheated. I should get my money back if I am not given what I paid for.

This is the worst establishment. Way over crowded from sun up to sun down. Walk in and there isn’t a single machine to use. Planning your workouts? Good luck you’ll be waiting 30 minutes for a squat rack if you’re lucky.

This is a great place for the most part unless you need handicap parking. There are only 8 (eight) handicap parking spaces out of hundreds of parking spaces for vehicles. I wish they would re-evaluate their parking policies.

This place has gone down hill since it first opened. They are a bunch of staff that stand around that were short and snippy. There is now a cap for the family pool, make sure that you always call beforehand or else it could be over a hour wait or get turned away. (Sucks with kids) The slide never seems to be open on a Sunday afternoon. They also changed the policy that you now have to purchase the daycare pass if your child wants to play in the play area. Parents can no longer go in the play area for free. There is nothing for kids to do other then the pool if you are on a day pass. They are trapping you into spending more money. For a community base center it doesn't seem very affordable.

They try and bill you every chance they get. Just got billed again when it was supposed to be canceled 2 months ago. I will never have a membership here ever again. And will discourage everyone that is thinking of joining.

Love this place when it comes to anything but the pools. They never have enough guards on duty and allow multiple birthday parties on weekends so unless you wait 60+ minutes there's no chance kids can go swimming. They need a better system, limit times like kid zone, online check in, or just something so you don't have crabby kids by time you might them in the water.

I will NEVER be coming back, I try to take my kiddos swimming once a month and this time the life guard picked out my child to nit pick on everything, they did not pay any attention to the boys next to us trying to plug his brothers nose and dunk him under the water… i walked out the last time he yelled at her. I will never recommend this place to anyone…

I joined this gym for 2 weeks and canceled after 2 weeks. I was told there would be no refund for the initial month fee but I would not be billed for second month and if I was to call in and it would be refunded. They charged me for two months for two weeks and refused to refund me saying I would've had to cancel before 15th of the month which makes no sense because I wasn't a member at all the 15th. Cale

We’ve had our membership over a year here- we have 2 toddlers we like to take swimming in the fall and winter to get them out of the house. We had never been turned away until today- apparently open swim is now very limited. We were told this once we entered the pool and the kids were rinsed off and all excited and ready to swim. Only adults allowed in the pool at the time. I don’t see what it would hurt to allow the kids to swim half hour and we would know for next time. Nope. Super disappointed! We really loved this last year as a winter activity.
