Today I had a bad experience with the group of people who play pickball in the morning shift. For me, the most important thing is respect and equality in every sense because those are important values and principles for every person. Today I saw that many of those who play are selfish people, and I could say they are also racist, just because I'm a different color? Or because I'm from a different culture? The point is that many of them repeatedly disregarded my turn, and I was there for an hour and could only play one game, while others were playing many more times and kept repeating. I got upset and went to talk to those in the reception area, and one of them turned his face away from me and started whispering things so I couldn't hear him. The other person didn't know what to say. In the end, there was a third person who answered me and accompanied me to explain what happened. In the end, he spoke with the other players, but my annoyance and frustration stem from the fact that many people act with little empathy and behave selfishly toward those of us who are from different cultures. I'm sharing this bad experience so that what happened to me doesn't happen to other people, and that we should be empathetic and respect everyone equally.

I’ve been a member of many health clubs over the years, but my experience at the YMCA has truly stood out — and that’s largely because of the incredible coaches who dedicate their time to helping us reach our health goals. In particular, I want to highlight the amazing Tonya C.
Tonya is the kind of coach who strikes the perfect balance between encouragement and challenge. She knows how to push you past your comfort zone while making you feel supported every step of the way. Every class with her is more than just a workout — it’s a boost of confidence, a dose of motivation, and even a little therapy rolled into one. She sprinkles in wisdom and encouragement that make you believe in yourself and remind you that you can do hard things.
It’s clear that Tonya pours her heart into what she does. Her energy, dedication, and genuine care for her class members elevate the entire experience. I feel so fortunate to have her as my instructor for multiple classes, and I always leave feeling stronger in both body and mind.
Looking forward to many more sessions with Tonya — she truly makes the YMCA feel like a place where we grow together.

Good gym for families and individuals with convenient location. Has good selection of free weights, machines, and cardio. Class offerings are diverse and comprehensive. The pool is well maintained and bright. There are only 2 squat racks which can be busy.

Before and after school care program is a joke. The staff are very unprofessional and don’t actually watch or take care of the kids. The kids are routinely yelled at and told how awful they are. There are no requirements to be a staff other than to have a pulse. I would never recommend anyone to bring their children here. It is an awfully disgusting excuse for a child care program. Please do not bring your children here. It’s a wonder they are still operational.

Very horrible stuff, especially the lifeguards. Racist and unprofessional at its best. Today we had a racist encounter when we took the kids for swimming at this location. The lifeguard was literally not allowing other kids in the pool( blacks) and only letting the white kids in. We waited for an hour plus for him to let the kids in the pool. I’m really disappointed and disgusted by the behavior of the lifeguard for misrepresenting the whole motto of the YMCA( inclusive). I hope the management sees into this matter.

ymca of the north has several problems for working people. 1. they don't have classes that start after 530. many people still work 9-530 so taking advantage of the free and paid small group classes are unavailable. Also, when you pay for small group sessions the computer system that the ymca of the north uses. will take them away. when you talk to management they refuse to take responsibility and you lose your money. the reason why I'm giving it a 3 instead of a 1 is that I love doing the Pilates reformer and it is the cheapest package you can find in the twin cities. Just be very mindful and keep track of how many classes you take and pay for, as the ymca computer program does not handle that well. Also, at times the computer system will not allow you to sign up for classes that you have paid for and tells you to call instead, but when you do the staff is unable to sign you up.

Watch out for there promotional scams. Was told I could cancel without being charged before the free promotional period ended. Was a lie. Got charged for 30 days anyway. So if thay say it's free it's not true. Plenty of cheaper places around. Would not recommend.

My experience is mostly around the pool etc and I have had very positive experiences. The lap pool is decent sized and so is the sauna. I especially like the small "lazy river" section where you can walk with or against the current. It's a busy place but there's is a large parking lot and it's easy to find parking.

My 7 year old was enrolled in Summer Power program with YMCA Midway.
When I came to pick her up, her shorts and a part of her shirt that was covering her bottom were wet. I dont know if she was unable / denied / was only given a chance to visit a restroom during the "bathroom break"/ -- to go to the bathroom when she needed to, and stayed wet for hours considering strong smell of urine and excrement, and red spots from rubbing.
I canceled her registration with St.Paul Midway summer program same day and requested a full refund. They never responded. I think they should seriously reconsider the current program and the requirements for instructors, for now it is not a healthy place for kids!
UPD. They did get back to me recently and approved the refund.

I have been taking individuals with disabilities here for over a year every other Wednesday to play bingo. The group welcomed us with acceptance and kindness and we gave really had alot of fun. Until last week. The way the individuals and their pca’s were treated by the management was unacceptable and heartbreaking. A few of us were members and the way they made us feel was awful. There is a special place for people like them (rude, judgmental, and discriminating). Karma will catch up with them. To the bingo group- thank you for welcoming us, we are going to miss it.

When cancelling your membership here, make sure you get it in writing! I opened a membership back in November when my daughter was 6 weeks old with the intention of transferring to Lifetime when she hit 3 months. That being said, I went in late December to cancel my membership, signed a form and everything. They said they were still going to charge me for January, fine, that’s what I signed up for. Fast forward to April, I noticed that they were still charging me the 104 dollars a month for my daughter and I. I was confused as I went in to cancel my membership months prior. These people completely gaslighted me in saying this never happened! That’s 312 dollars I cannot get back even though they have it on record I hadn’t attended the gym since December. I realize that might’ve been a little my fault for not double checking that my membership was in fact cancelled but ugh… rant over. Just leaving a review to warn others. Super not okay!

I’ve been a member of this YMCA for one year, and typically workout 5 days a week. I belonged to a different Y in another state previously. I swim, and take group exercise classes, and my kid takes swim lessons. The pools open and close at several random times every day, throughout the day, (because they can’t find enough and or keep lifeguards, I was told, probably because they don’t pay them enough) the hot tub is often closed when it is supposed to be open, the lap pool is always cold, the kids call it the torture pool, the swim lessons have too many kids, are expensive and not effective (in a 30 minute class each kid only gets two turns to practice the strokes, then they tread or have free time for two minutes). This Y has chosen not to bring back towels after discontinuing them during Covid. The parking lot is always full and there is little street parking available. There are frequent locker robberies. (Ive witnessed people discovering their valuables are gone and have seen employees calling the police after incidents) I’ve started going to other locations, which are better, but less convenient. If there were any other local options, I would cancel my membership.

I've been a YMCA member for least 48+ years in various states. I kept my membership throughout the pandemic because I didn't want the Midway YMCA to close like the other ones did!!! I believe in the programs that the YMCA provides. Also, I worked at the original Midway YMCA as a lifeguard. I taught swimming lessons for years at other YMCA's. So, the early morning pools hours (especially the leisure pool/vortex(lots of people with injuries/disabilities use this) have been greatly reduced. So, when those pools are open it is super crowded and honestly not so fun!. I contacted the Midway YMCA and the aquatic director indicated that the rules about staffing pools have changed. Is there really nothing that can be done about this?

The cleaner should get a raise. It’s quiet and safe. I wish they would replace some of the numerous unused cardio machines with a better selection of weight machines, though. There’s only one leg press machine for the whole gym, nothing for calves, and only one each of many other machines that are in high demand.

The cleaning staff goes above and beyond. The locker room is always clean, showers included. The staff also come up to the gym area and clean all the equipment, too.
The exercise equipment is in good shape and if something breaks you just let the team know and they seem to have it fixed quickly.
Alex will give you a full tour and explain all the membership benefits and answer all your questions. Front desk staff are super friendly and helpful too. Personal trainer Kevin is great and customized a plan specific to my goals.

The facility is limited, particularly it's walking Track, and seems to be overly busy. Upon joining, I was disappointed as a veteran that I received conflicting information about my membership rate. It was an unpleasant surprise when officially signing up. The person (Alex) completing the membership was Unapologetic, and that bothered me because of the this information and the cost being higher than I'd anticipated. These organizations make lots of money on memberships and donations, and sometimes lose sight of their responsibility and accountability to the public. Upon cancelation, prior to the end of the FREE promotion, was charged $60 anyway, with no explanation or prior disclosure. Alex got confrontational, and is Dishonest, which does not reflect well on the YMCA..an organization that started as a Christian organization.

Nice location and facilities. But I disliked how much I was rushed into getting a full price membership, and the requirements to come in person to sort out being on SNAP/EBT to get the sliding scale costs was way too much hassle when I specified i was physically disabled. The promo I signed up with charged me $50 usd, and barely into March before I could cancel after being too sick and disabled to travel out there, I then have a new $70 balance to deal with as a low income resident of st. Paul. Pretty negative experience, so I'll be looking got cheaper alternatives for exercise until I can afford to come back here.

TL;DR: I was billed/bilked for 3 months of membership ($112) after cancelling over the phone. Attempting to get a refund was simply ignored by Membership Manager named Brandon.
Here's my story: February 26th '22 i call in to cancel my membership. I give the employee over the phone some information, and they say I'm all set.
Fast forward to May, i notice that I've been billed the past 3 months for a YMCA membership. Call in to the Y and no one picks up. Leave a message, no response for 2 weeks.
Call again, May 25th '22, talk to an employee and explain my situation. "Unfortunately since there is no record of this on our end, I'm going to transfer you to Membership Manager Brandon". Immediately go to Brandon's voicemail, leave a message and have yet to get a response. Seems like they're just trying to ignore me until I stop bothering them.
I will call again tomorrow, May 29th, and try again.

I had the blessing to get a YMCA membership and I this is my "home" YMCA (even though my home area is Duluth and I only am in Saint Paul during the week days)! I have to give a shout-out to YMCA workers Brandon and Eli.. when I was renewing my membership, Brandon was handling five different customer needs and my need and was training Eli and Eli had the confidence to take on working with me which I was a hard case as far as membership renewal goes. I was very impressed and still am and I just wanted to make sure that they got the recognition for their hard work!! this YMCA is my favorite out of all the YMCA as I visited so far. thank you Brandon and thank you Eli and thank you to the Midway YMCA for all of your help and beautiful facility!!

I think it’s about time to stop using Covid as an excuse for shortening the clubs hours. I’m sure it helps your bottom line to close at 8pm but if you’re going to open full time you should get back to the hours people paid for when they signed up. Requiring reservations for pool areas is just a way of keeping people from coming back fully. I just find this a bit disingenuous but easily pulled off on your “anything is okay” clients.

The place is brand new and has excellent equipment and amenities. The staff are friendly though not always the most helpful. I'm a brand new member, only recently joining about a month ago. I registered and paid online and on my first visit I checked in and asked if I could get a tour or if they had a handbook or ANYTHING that could help me get acquainted with the place and know the rules, regulations, different programs, and they just said everything is online. Which was somewhat helpful but just a quick walkthrough would have been nice. Today I'm not very happy because I saw last week when I looked online that they were going to be closing temporarily for the shut down. Then today when i checked I was surprised and happy to see that they were open! So I rearranged my whole schedule to come workout this evening only to find they are still closed and will be the entirety of the shutdown! I'm not sure if this was Google's fault for posting that they were open or the staff's but it ruined my night and there a plenty of things I could have been doing besides wasting my time! And even more now writing this scathing review!! I'm mostly kidding there, I think I just needed to vent a little. The place has otherwise been great, aside from those 2 minor inconveniences and I look forward to the day when they really are back open!

Classes are great! Staff are all very helpful and friendly. The pool is nice (not too cold). It is typically pretty busy. Would recommend arriving early if you want to get a spot in a class during peak hours.

My children have been attending the Midway YMCA after school program since 2018. This is the first place where I felt comfortable leaving my children withkout worrying, knowing that they are in good hands. I would like to commend all the staff at Midway YMCA, you work tirelessly to ensure our children are safe and feel cared for. A special thanks to Ms Celina, I have noticed some positive improvements since you started working here. Keep up the great work!

Great pool and gym areas. A small walking track, too. Friendly staff and clean locker rooms. The equipment like treadmills, bikes, etc. Is all first-come, first-served which means there's a lot of waiting.
