We are a locally owned and operated gym that has been serving the Maplewood/St. Paul community since 2001. At Success Fitness, we keep things simple: no frills, no waiting for equipment, and no intimidation. It’s like working out at home—without the distractions of laundry and projects—but with the accountability and encouragement of a supportive community.
If you haven’t found a fitness home elsewhere, Success may be just the place for you. Around here, there are no jerks and minimal mirror selfies—just real people doing real work and striving to better themselves one rep at a time.

I've just completed my 100th session at Success Fitness, so this review is both well timed and overdue. I have to say, Success Fitness is truly one of the most welcoming and intimate gyms I’ve ever experienced. From the moment you walk in, you feel like more than just a member—you feel seen, heard, and supported. The space while small is thoughtfully designed so you never have to compete for equipment or feel overwhelmed by aimless gym goers. It’s peaceful, personal, and refreshingly free of the usual gym chaos.

I have never been to the gym in person but use Coach Hunter as my online coach and he has been incredible!!! I am a OCB bikini pro and I used to coach myself in these competitions but I found Hunter at one of these shows and he is so knowledgeable and professional and I knew if I wanted to advance in my career in bodybuilding I needed someone like him! He has brought my physique to the best it’s ever been and the nutrition side of things is the best Iv ever had! They use the best nutrition app and the other trainers have been super kind and helpful and encouraging as well!! The owner Grace sent me a card and success shirt for my last competition and it was soo sweet! This is the best gym family I could ever ask for! You won’t be disappointed going to work out here and utilizing these amazing trainers! They are all super skilled and have great online videos as well!! I will stay with them forever!!

The only gym that has gotten me to consistenttly come every week and make fitness a habit. I went from never working out to working with a personal trainer (Tom/Nick) and then "graduated" to open gym, working out on my own and keeping myself accountable. Success Fitness has gotten me to take my personal health seriously and it has drastically changed my life, I have made new friends, gotten strong, started eating better, and am just so much happier than I was last year. I can't thank them enough and it has everything to do with their culture and clientele. If you dont like the gym, then this gym is for you.

My nutrition coach Hunter C. helped me with my weight loss journey and better health in early July 2023. He listened to my concerns, preferences and goals. He created a plan, to include foods and supplements that he felt would best serve my needs. A meal plan was established and followed very closely. The supplements he recommends target my vitamin and mineral needs and my meals are generous and tasty, but I continue to lose the weight! I have a long journey ahead; however, I have already shed more than 30 pounds in the short time I’ve been working with Hunter. He is focused on what my body needs nutritionally. By doing this, I already feel and look much better. The weight loss is bonus for me. What Hunter has helped me accomplish for my health is priceless!

I have always struggled with my weight. I've been plus sized my whole life, and it's been hard to figure out what to do in order to lose the weight I want to lose and be healthier. I've worked with a nutritionist to find the right ways to eat for my health and goals, but the weight just wasn't coming off and I wasn't feeling my best. So I went in search of a personal trainer to help me.
I found Success Fitness, and after meeting with Alex to learn what my goals are and what my current fitness level was, he set me up with Tom. I can safely say that taking that one small step of reaching out to Success has changed my entire life, and I'm nowhere near my goal yet since I've only been seeing them for seven months. Tom is the best trainer I could have ever asked for. He always checks in to see how my body is feeling after a workout. He makes sure that he's pushing me to the next level but always listens to what my body is telling me.
Success as a whole is an amazing place. Every trainer that has been in the gym when I have been knows my name and celebrates my successes. The excitement they have for every client that walks in the door makes this place so welcoming and so friendly.
I looked at A LOT of different places for a personal trainer. The best decision I made was picking Success. I couldn't ask for a better place to work out.

I’ve been working with Hunter for over 3 years now. I know most peoples goals are to use a personal trainer to learn and then do it on their own.
I personally feel I need accountability and I am STILL learning.
I started with the goal of weight loss. ( that took 6 months to reach my goal)
I had never been in the gym before so working with the weights was scary to me. And learning how to count calories and eating good food was a big focus.
I learned to love the gym and working out. Hunter was great at teaching me how to do the exercises safely, and with proper form. I never felt dumb or embarrassed when working with him.
The next goal was to be able to win a trophy in a body building competition.- I’ve never won anything before. Hunter not only helped me win a trophy, I got my pro card!!!!! We really focused on macros and training specific muscles to get the look I needed. ( I never knew how much work and dedication goes into being a body builder, it’s a lot.) But it’s also super rewarding and you learn SO MUCH about your body.
I had to figure out what was making me bloat all of the time. Doctors could not figure me out, they just gave me some Prilosec and sent me on my way. Hunter is a certified nutrition coach and works with healing the body naturally with functional medicine. He figured out my issue ( after I had some labs done and then I went to the doctor to get the medication) ( even though I could heal it naturally- but I wanted the quick way)
Hunter guided me through prep and getting me to the proper look that I needed. It wasn’t as terrible as many make it out to be- ( most coaches diet their clients down rapidly and don’t take into consideration what damages can be done to the body. Especially with hormones. Most women lose their period. I didn’t. He kept my hormones in check and was going to help me through a proper reverse but then
I got into a car accident. So instead of focusing on competing as a pro, I’ve been working on recovering.
Hunter has been amazing with physical therapy and working with injuries. There are many ways to work a muscle- certain exercises can bother other areas of my body and he’s found ways to still get a workout in without hurting me- unlike the physical therapist at the clinic. ( they only focus on the injured muscles) Hunter works on getting the smaller, supporting muscles to get stronger to help take the load off the injured muscles.

I’ve been super blessed to have found him.
As far as the gym as a whole goes, all of the staff are great! Each person has their own specialty. Some working with postpartum women, others with elderly, another with mobility, strength, and of course Hunter is the nutrition pro and works more with bodybuilding clients- but if you want weight loss- and to gain strength, I highly recommend him.
I also love that it’s a smaller gym and I don’t have to be around a bunch of people.
I give them 10/5 stars.
I couldn’t have asked for a better gym.

If you need a gym, where health, wellness, and quality fitness professionals I promise you this is the best gym for all that! I started there 8 yrs ago and have never felt healthier and truly fit in my life! From day one, I could see and feel the difference from other gyms I have tried. This is a place where, truly, where there is no judgement and the trainers actually listen and make programs for each individual. No cookie cutter programs. I've been working out with Hunter at the Maplewood location for just over six months now, and it's been amazing! He's an absolute fountain of knowledge on lifting, movement, and nutrition. This was my first time getting a personal trainer and I couldn’t have picked a better place! I initially started with Grace; she was amazing! I loved her energy and how encouraging she was. I had a great time working out with her. Due to scheduling conflicts, I did have to switch over to Nick. At first, I was quite hesitant. Especially since it was my first time getting a personal trainer, I would have liked a female trainer. Despite this, Grace was very considerate with the transition. She made sure to have Nick come into one of our workout sessions to ensure that he would be the right fit for me.
Throughout my experience with Nick, I had such a great time! I never felt uncomfortable or judged. Nick was such a great personal trainer, considering it was my first time. Not only is Nick extremely knowledgeable, but he truly wanted you to learn and become the best version of yourself. Throughout my experience with Nick, I noticed how confident I became and how much stronger I’ve gotten. To give some reference, I’m 4’11 and 150 lbs. I was always intimidated with squats, deadlifts, and benching. However, by the end of my trainings (2 months), I was able to squat 185lbs x 7, deadlift 175lbs x 6, and bench 60lbs x 6; I couldn’t have done this without Nick. For all the girls that are intimidated by male trainers and/or wants to learn more about lifting, I highly RECOMMEND Nick.
Nick does not only care about your physical health, but he truly understands the work/life balance and always wants to make sure you are happy. Honestly, one day I came into one of our workout session hungover and he was SUPER nice about it, lol. He mentioned that we can reschedule the session since he wants me to feel okay and fully enjoy the workout. Additionally, there’s been a couple of times where I was unable to make it to our workout session and he would always be willing to reschedule and make it work. Overall, I’ve learned a lot and had a wonderful time here. Thank you!!

I've had a great experience with Nick as my personal trainer. He listens to my needs and makes adjustments as we go, so that I'm getting the most out of each session. I appreciate the variety of equipment he has shown me how to use and that he challenges me to get out of my comfort zone. I joined Success Fitness in mid-April and this place has exceeded my expectations. I was looking to join a small gym for several reasons – safety/health, wanted a more personalized experience as I knew I needed some accountability, and a place that didn’t judge me. I am a mother of two young kiddos and my body just isn’t the same and therefore, I wanted a place that I could feel physically and mentally comfortable while working out and I also wanted a workout routine that was customized to me (with a way to also track my progress). I train with my super knowledgeable and great supportive trainer, Hunter, twice a week for 45 minutes (and he has also been super flexible whenever I needed to move my dates/times which is incredibly helpful with my busy schedule). The space itself is clean, organized, and welcoming. If you’re looking for a personalized (never boring!), welcoming, non-judgmental, and flexible space to strengthen your body, feel healthy, and lose inches, this will be a great place to start! I have already felt stronger, lost about 10 pounds, and a few inches off my waist. Check it out if you’re curious and are looking for a stronger you!

I started participating in Grace's online classes after Covid shut down the club I belonged to. Her workouts are fantastic. I love that she changes it up and keeps things new and challenging. I enjoy her classes so much that I cancelled my club membership and focus on her online classes. Grace is fun to work with, very encouraging, and always full of energy! When Covid hit and all of the gyms had to close down, I waited like everyone else and my workouts stopped. I started to notice my stress level going up and I knew I needed to work out.

I have had the pleasure of doing virtual workouts with both Grace and Michelle. Grace's ability to tailor a group workout and give options based on unique health needs is amazing. Everyone got challenged and got to choose your own adventure. I've never had someone who I could just mention my hang-ups and they immediately knew how to adjust the workout not to aggravate it without me providing the step by step. It was amazing! Michelle does an excellent barre and pilates class. The fine muscle movements had me sore for days (in the best possible way). I have been incredibly impressed with Success Fitness and training with a variety of experience! Grace created several mini-workout videos for Living Spirit Therapy Services' Empowering Wellness Initiative to help people find ways to fit workouts into demanding work and family schedules. She had great ideas for 5 minute desk workouts and ways to exercise WITH your children as well as regular upper and lower body workouts. She makes fitness incredibly accessible to all, providing different options and adaptations to meet diverse levels and needs. She provided amazing reference materials with photos and easy to follow descriptions and even offers a free consultation!
I have had the pleasure of doing live virtual group training with her as well. I find some trainers to be highly annoying with their "encouragement". This was not at all the case with Grace! Grace made sure everyone understood options and ways to adapt things to unique needs; knows exactly how to provide solid, motivating, and respectful encouragement; and makes fitness incredibly fun. I had a blast in the session and definitely got a solid workout.
My husband and I also had the opportunity to work with Hunter for biomechanics and fascia release work. He is incredibly knowledgeable, accommodating, and truly wants to help educate people on how to prevent problems. Some people try to string people on for ongoing long term sessions. His model is to teach people how to do things on their own for cost-effective, long term, lifestyle changes and solutions. He too put together great descriptions of exercises so that we could do the daily work without him.
Everyone I have interacted with at Success Fitness has gone the extra mile to make our experience a positive one. I would highly recommend Success Fitness!

Well, my experience has been so wonderful with Grace that I don’t even know how to start.
I’ve been depressed for a long time, hard pregnancy, had put on a lot of weight, my toddler is taking a lot from me, etc.
I felt totally worthless, had absolutely no faith on me and no self esteem. My sister in law told me about her, and as we are in lockdown, I couldn’t go to the gym, plus I’m in the UK. So I started my online sessions with her.
At first my interest was to move, recover, as I’ve had too much pain, basically take care of my body.
But man, this woman has such a positive vibe, she gave me lots of support, she believe me when I couldn’t myself. I felt that she really cared, that she loves what she’s doing. She not your average personal trainer, forget that. Grace is something else!
Every small step, week after week she helped me find my way back, and what was supposed to be only some workouts, turned out to be a way out my depression. The help she gave me was of course, body related, however, the love, friendship, honesty and good energy is something priceless.
I’m grateful to the universe for putting Grace Melek in my life, thank you my Dear! The good energy that come from this woman just crossed the barriers of distance!

Each trainer is dedicated, caring and invested in your success. Grace is so fun to work out with! Her workouts are challenging yet fun. This is a great gym if you've experienced personal injury or surgeries. They are very attuned to physical therapy type needs. I recommend Grace and the rest of the trainers at this gym to basically everyone I know!!!

I love working out with Grace because she is fun, non-judgmental and very supportive. Her workouts are dynamic and challenging, and she will help you achieve your fitness goals in anyway she can. I appreciate how she listens and answers all my questions, always educating and motivating me, especially with some of my conditions, like tendinitis and a history of injuries. Recently, because I suffered from sciatica pain while pregnant, she was of the most important support, providing me with carefully planned workouts, at-home stretches and exercises, along with additional nutrition information. I remained fit and full of energy throughout the pregnancy, and went on to have an easy delivery and quick postpartum recovery. She is also full of resources and doesn’t mind doing the research needed to make sure you receive the right care and support needed. I don’t think there’s a better trainer out there - she’s 5 stars all the way!

This gym is full of dedicated professionals focused on health and wellness. My trainer, Grace, has in my opinion changed my life in a significant way. My cardio fitness has dramatically improved. I not only look better, I truly feel better. I have energy and endurance I did not have before. I could not have done this without Grace!

I have not been to Success for training yet. I can say that I have trained with Grace for 6 years and she brings a level of professionalism, motivation, encouragement, and success to EVERY training session. With Grace as the new owner of this business, I believe there will be new improvements and creative energy not only to the space but also to the training sessions. I have trained with Grace in various locations and I will definitely check out this business and spread the word!

Just adequate. I went there for about 4 or five years at my wife's urging and she was there for about 8 years. It took that long to realize they were more interested in our $ than our wellbeing. That is OK as long as you are upfront about it.
My wife and I like friendly places and I just watched the promo video. Travis smiling should go in a historical archive somewhere. The friendliness comes from the other clients and not really from the training staff that I dealt with.
I do not want to go into detail about our negative experiences there. In all fairness they are adequate but so are a lot of other gyms. If you live more than 3 or 4 miles from the place you can probably save gas money and travel time by finding a place closer for you.
We are committed to our fitness and will probably join a YMCA 2 miles from our house instead of driving the one way to this gym.
I would probably rate this place 2 1/2 stars if possible. Adequate.

A lot of the classes are not ideal for a standard 9-5 work schedule. However, the ones that are are fantastic. I highly recommend the Kettlebell classes with Mike and Dave. I am stronger than I could ever imagine. Thanks guys!
