I have been going to The Grove now for 2 years and averaging 4 days a week.
I have really enjoyed that even during our small group workouts, I still get some one-on-one coaching, and they modify the workouts to work around my injuries (not workout related). The coaching on doing the exercise correctly has helped with my range of motion and sometimes I need to be told to reduce the weight because I pushed too hard on the last set and my form is off.
The class sizes are small and the encouragement from the coaching staff and fellow gym members helps keep me motivated. You feel like a group of friends rather than just people who work out together.
I have seen a huge improvement in my stamina. I used to dread the conditioning focused days but now bring on the sled relays or air bikes and it is a nice mix into the week.
My shirt sizes are getting a little tight in the shoulders and arms. I have always struggled with upper body strength, but I have seen some huge improvements in the amount of weight and reps from when I started. It is a good mix of low and high rep days that will keep your muscles fatigued and keeps me coming back for more.

Joining The Grove Strength & Condition is THE BEST decision I’ve made in years! Matt and Eric are true pros - they take the time to get to know you and help you set and achieve your fitness goals. They design balanced programs that can be adjusted to you and focus on lifting form, strength and mobility. The gym is welcoming, the trainers are fun, and I’m in and out in 60 minutes feeling great - added strength/mobility and improved overall fitness. I haven’t felt this good…maybe ever! Thanks guys!!

I’ve been going to The Grove for roughly 10 years, and they continue to push me to grow and improve. Matt and Eric are incredible trainers; they’re always creating new and challenging workouts that keep me engaged. What I appreciate most is how attentive they are. If I ever have pain or discomfort, they adjust the workout on the spot to make sure I can keep progressing without further hurting myself.
Last year, I struggled with significant back pain, and they designed my training specifically to help me recover. Thanks to them my back pain is now virtually gone, and I feel like myself again.
I can’t recommend The Grove enough!

I can’t recommend The Grove enough for anyone considering personalized training. The attentiveness and expertise of the coaching staff is truly next level. They don’t just run you through a workout, they focus on each trainee’s individual needs, providing suggestions that fit your fitness level and goals.
The atmosphere at The Grove is unbeatable. It’s motivating, welcoming, and makes me look forward to every session. If you’re looking for real, personalized training with coaches who genuinely care, The Grove is the place to be.

Think gyms aren’t for you or find it difficult to keep a workout routine? Former athlete who needs a training plan (my husband)? Nervous to start exercising after injury or pregnancy (me)? Then The Grove IS FOR YOU!
Matt and Eric have created a welcoming community to build strength, range of motion, and core stability. They greet you by name at each class, and gradually progress your training to help you achieve your fitness goals. Whether that is walking Rome for five days during your retirement trip, beating your ten year old at a push up contest, or improving your marathon pace by incorporating strength training, The Grove will get you started!
The strength and stability I’ve gained since starting here in February (after years of not exercising post-injury) have me trying to get all my friends and family to start. Added bonus I can be starting my workout within 2min of walking through the door, and everyone is genuinely kind and friendly!

I hadn’t consistently focused on strength training in over 15 years, and for the past decade, I’ve dealt with persistent knee pain and, more recently, lower back issues due to a herniated disc. I’ve had multiple gel and steroid injections, and each time, my doctor emphasized the importance of building strength and improving flexibility.
Since I started training at The Groves just over a year ago, I haven’t needed a single injection, and the severe pain I once experienced has ceased.
Matt and Eric are outstanding coaches! They bring great energy to every session and tailor workouts to your individual fitness level and goals. If you're managing past injuries, they thoughtfully modify exercises to ensure safety and progress. They place a strong emphasis on proper form and make sure you're using the appropriate weight for each exercise.
Their attention to detail and genuine care truly make a difference. Highly recommend!

I joined The Grove after a shoulder injury and lots of sitting around. From day 1 there was a vibe of support, professionalism and community. The level of attention I have gotten from Matt and Eric while training has been exceptional. If you are looking for a gym that blends meeting you where you are at, but persistent in you finding your best self, go here. They will guide you, nudge you, challenge you, teach you, correct you. Along the way, you'll laugh, learn something new and feel the energy of good people bettering themselves. As for results, it has been super satisfying for me to do things around the house, yard, with the kids and feel more capable, strong and able.

100% worth it - effective and fun! I gave Matt and Eric a list of my goals and they created a custom workout program to meet my needs. Life is busy enough - it's a relief to rely on their wealth of knowledge and just focus on working out. Both Eric and Matt are extremely supportive and attentive. I always look forward to going: I know they will motivate me but also supervise and make sure I'm doing all exercises correctly and to best effect. I've struggled with injuries and appreciate having coaches on hand to watch out for my best interest.
I've seen an increase in my performance in the short time I've been coming and look forward to even more.
Also, the gym is SO CLEAN!

Cannot say enough about the quality of the coaches. Matt and Eric are so knowledgeable, attentive, and open to questions from anyone regardless of skill level. Small class sizes mean they are able to provide individualized tips and encouragement. It is like working with an expert personal trainer while still in a small group setting. In two months, my posture and strength have improved and my low back no longer gives me any problems. Highly recommend the facility and both Matt and Eric without reservation.

I’ve been strength training at The Grove for six months, and it’s been a game-changer for my performance as an amateur triathlete. The team is incredibly knowledgeable and started by conducting a personalized assessment of my body's capabilities and areas needing improvement. They tailored a program specifically to my athletic needs, focusing on enhancing my endurance and addressing past pain points like my knee and hip. Since starting, I’ve noticed a significant boost in my performance across all sports, and I experience far less discomfort in those problem areas. The trainers consistently challenge me to push my limits while ensuring my form is correct, making the entire experience both safe and rewarding. Highly recommend!

Matt and Eric are incredibly good trainers and are extremely personable. I came to The Grove having never worked out in a gym, let alone with a trainer. They do an excellent job creating a welcoming environment for people of all skill levels by tailoring workouts to each individual and coaching you through each exercise. They truly care about your personal goals and provide all of the tools to help you achieve them. I started my fitness journey at the most I have ever weighed, with a lot of knee and back discomfort from the excess weight. In the 6 months I've been working with Matt and Eric they've coached me through losing 30 pounds and have helped me target increased mobility, and I have never felt better. I highly recommend starting your fitness journey at The Grove!

The Grove is my new home for strength and mobility training. They provide expert coaching, unique programming, and a community feel that keep me motivated to reach my training goals.
1) Expert coaching: Simply put, Matt and Eric know exercise science. They provide incredible guidance on improving form and incorporating complimentary accessory exercises that I simply wouldn’t get working out at a big box gym or even with many personal trainers. They know when to push for more but also when to scale back to avoid overload.
2) Unique programming: I was looking for a gym that would help me program towards a goal of long-term strength and mobility. My semi-private training program started with a functional movement screening (FMS) and all my programming has been tailored to my specific needs. They incorporate traditional strength movements with other functional movement exercises to get the most out of my time in the gym. They keep things fresh and adjust to how my body is responding to the training. I’ve seen significant strength gains in the first six months, but also feel more mobile and less sore than previous training programs.
3) Community: Matt and Eric foster a sense of community at the Grove. They bring a super positive attitude and are always approachable with questions and concerns. They welcome members of all fitness and experience levels and create an environment where different levels can be comfortable training together at the same time. This welcoming approach carries over to the other members of the gym to create the small community feel that you simply cannot find in most gyms.
Thank you to the team at the Grove. I am very grateful to have found such a perfect fit for my training needs!!

If it’s one thing I miss about my old home city of Minneapolis, it’s my personal training experience at The Grove. I got the most out of my gym membership under Matt’s training model - much more than any other gym I’ve had before. Matt was extremely attentive to detail, was very knowledgeable in the various types of exercises, and he pushed me to new limits. I really appreciated his high attention to my form, yet also knew when it was time for me to increase the resistance/weight so as to keep me moving forward with my goals. This is the kind of accountability we all need when trying to make progress on something that’s not that easy to keep in motion sustainably. I’d still be a member if I hadn’t moved to Arizona! The icing on the cake - he’s a great guy!

Matt and Eric are exceptional trainers and I would recommend them to people of all skill levels. They do an excellent job at meeting you where you're at, as well as driving you to be your best self. Incredibly personable people who are just fun to be around.
I've trained with many people in my life, what sets these guys apart from the field is their dedication and time they put into their craft. They have a large base of tools, as well as the experience to know how to apply those tools optimally. As with anything, you get what you put into it - if you put in the effort they ask of you, you will 100% get better and move towards your goals at a faster rate.

There simply aren't enough adjectives to express how much I love The Grove Strength and Conditioning.
Do yourself a favor and run to this gym for your initial (free) consultation. Matt works with you to understand your goals and has the extensive expertise to provide a plan of action to get you there. Once you are in a class, you will be hooked.
If you are like me, you have probably been to multiple gyms. At The Grove you are NOT just a number. Matt runs small classes and has eyes on each client. He is extremely focused on technical skills and makes adjustments and modifications in real-time. This is a game changer! He is so adept at his craft and loves to share his knowledge and excitement. Its infectious... you can't help but be excited too. Another benefit to small classes is that you get to spend time working out with wonderful, supportive people. (I have a "tribe" now!)
Matt's personal training goes way beyond the gym. He focuses on the whole person - for him it's more than just the workouts. My sleep schedule has changed drastically, and my food intake is far more consistent and thought-out. He has helped me in so many ways - I just can't thank him enough!
I've had the pleasure of working with Matt for 8 years now. Before coming here, I would have to drag myself to a gym - now it's my favorite time of the day! I don't know of many people (outside of Grove members) that see workouts as "guilty pleasures". This is something I do just for myself. I am stronger and in better shape that I have ever been, and I feel healthy and happy. Coming to The Grove was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I would encourage you to come and see what Matt can do for you.

I am writing this review to express my deep, deep gratitude for The Grove.
I started experimenting with gyms and personal training about 5 years ago after realizing the toll a lifetime of being a sedentary desk jockey was taking on my body. In that time, I’ve spent countless hours (and dollars) on trainers to help me live a more active life. While I’ve made good progress with trainers in the past, none compare to Matt Groves. I have made more progress with him in 3 months than I have in the past 5 years with other trainers.
As a small group personal training client, workouts are designed specifically for me. The amount of thought, detail, and knowledge that goes into creating these workouts blows me away. The only thing better than the workouts is Matt’s ability to coach me through them and adjust them to whatever my body is bringing that day. If something isn’t feeling right or I’m struggling to understand a movement, Matt is always right there to give the perfect cue – often with humor, always with empathy, patience, and kindness.
The atmosphere at the Grove – both physically and culturally – is also in a different league than other gyms I’ve been to. The extensive array of equipment is top-notch, clean and well maintained as are the locker rooms and private showers. The culture is welcoming, non-judgmental, and supportive. It’s a place that seems to attract good, chill people and it’s hard not to feel good when I’m there.
This place is really something special and is a shining reflection of the dedication, hard work, and generosity that went into creating it. I am so thankful for The Grove.

I found The Grove after searching for a gym close to me and I’m so glad that I did! The format of the strength training (small classes and constantly changing workouts) is perfect to keep me encouraged and engaged. I’ve never loved strength training before, but Matt and his team’s kind coaching makes the classes something I have come to look forward to. In the month and a half since I’ve started there, my blood pressure has dropped, I’ve lost weight, and I generally feel more positive about my body. If you are looking for a welcoming fitness experience and to make a difference with your health, you should give The Grove a try.

I almost never write reviews but this one is worth writing. I've worked with a number of trainers over the past 30 years and Matt is the best of the bunch by far. After working out for most of my adult life, I thought that there wasn't much left for me to learn. I was wrong. Matt's attention to detail is exceptional. He has improved just about every "basic" exercise that I thought I knew by heart. He has helped me work through a nagging shoulder injury and recurring issues with me pulling my back as well. 5 stars!

I have had nothing but positive experience in my ~5 months at The Grove. Since starting I have noticed my strength, endurance and overall fitness have improved, and I've managed to lose some weight at the same time. The trainers at The Grove have been incredible, professional and very knowledgeable. The personalized attention I have received while attending has also bee amazing, as I had been living a mostly sedentary lifestyle since high school, and it has really helped me continue to improve and want to keep coming back week after week. The trainers are always willing to help you out if something isn't quite clicking for you, and will always ensure you have all the resources you need to succeed, and the environment in the gym is so welcoming and helpful I can't even quite put it into words. I cannot say enough good things about this place, if you're at all considering attending, I would highly encourage you to do so.

I was looking for a gym close to my home, but I feel like the Grove is a hidden gem, and for so many reasons in addition to its location.
The Grove offers small-group fitness classes and personal training. Classes combine both strength and conditioning, but what I love is that the size of the classes allows Matt and Eric to take such an individualized approach to training. They give each person the support and help that they need - encouraging them to go up in weights or do one more rep while also putting high value on form and safety.
I also appreciate the accountability. After a few weeks of being out due to sickness I got an email from Matt asking where I was and when I would be back at the gym. That’s something I never experienced at larger gyms, who were happy to take your money even if they never saw you. The Grove truly wants to see and be a part of changed, healthier lives for the people there!

Working out at the Grove has been a blast this over this past year. The environment is very welcoming and the trainers are very supportive. Before starting at the Grove I didn't really know what to expect from a trainer. I did not do much lifting in gyms. When I started here, Matt made sure I was lifting properly so I would not hurt myself. After a year I feel more comfortable lifting and he has taught me to be more precise in my workouts.
He builds his workouts to meet all experience levels of lifting even in a group session. Not only does he build good workouts but he has great nutrition tips and programs for all the different goals.
Overall it's a great place to workout!!

I had never done any strength training (or much physical training of any kind, really) before joining The Grove four months ago, but Matt has managed to make the process both challenging and achievable. He seems to know exactly what to ask of you, and the results are apparent even though I only spend two hours a week training. Numbers don't lie but, most importantly, Matt puts a lot of emphasis on good form: he carefully corrects every movement and when you get it right, you know it, because you can feel it in your body. I’ve been working out for a long time with lots of up’s and down’s, multiple trainers, programs, and places with varying results. Being a large man, some trainers just wanted me to eat as much as I could and lift as heavy as possible, which is great to be able to move so much weight around. But overall caused injuries and not the route I wanted to go. That’s when I heard about Matt and The Grove and I wanted to try something different. Matt has a very good balance in his coaching style, he creates workouts that are varying in level of difficulty for those of all skill levels. Additionally, he doesn’t just have you work on strength he has you work in mobility, explosiveness, and cardio in is his workouts to promote all around good health. Matt Groves is one of the best. I have found that Matt has a very good balance in coaching style that not a lot of other coaches have. He creates workouts that are the perfect level of difficulty for those of all skill levels. Additionally, his workouts promote all around health, and not just strength. I was someone with minimal gym experience before coming to the Grove. My experience 4 months in has been wonderful. Matt will meet you where you are at and help you develop the skills and techniques to be a healthier you through encouragement and great coaching. I find it hard now not to work out!

I've been training with Matt for the last 2+ years now and it has been fantastic. I was disciplined before and worked out on my own to save money but training with Matt takes things to a whole other level. The biggest thing I learned when starting here is how important right posture and movement are to increase range of motion and make sure you don't get hurt, which is hard to improve when training solo. He really helps you focus on set goals and achieving them, and you can start wherever you may be on the athletic spectrum. Matt makes each session fun so it never feels like a chore, even on those days you don't want to show up. Take the plunge and sign up today to try it out, you won't regret it!

I've been training with Matt for about 7 years, and as back injuries could have sidelined me for weeks or months, Matt was right there, guiding me along. Tailoring workouts to not only help me gain strength, but to also keep me from getting injured again. Matt will push you to push yourself, and to have fun doing it. Some days are harder than others, and that's okay. Show up, put the effort in, and Matt will help you become a better version of yourself.

I can't say enough good things about Matt and the environment that he has created at The Grove. He has a wealth of knowledge and is much more than just a fitness coach as he is always trying to help everyone achieve their personal goals whether it be in the gym or not. He takes the time to really get to know everyone and that helps to create a great environment to workout in because you feel like you are working out with a group of friends. Each workout is challenging and if you put in the effort you will start to notice how exercises start to become easier and easier, until he shows you a modified version of the exercise to continue to push yourself to meet your personal goals. With Matts help I've noticed an improvement in not only my physical health, but also my mental health and if you are willing to try Matt will be able to help you too.

I have been consistently attending classes for 3 years. Matt's attention to detail is unmatched as he works with you to perfect each movement, even in a group setting. Workouts are customized to work muscle groups and each day is different. Typical class starts with a warm-up, then strength work, strength with some conditioning, and ending with conditioning and a cool-down. Definitely would recommend.

I absolutely love working out at The Grove. Before finding The Grove, I had a lot of anxiety - even phobia - of going to a gym. I found gyms to be really uncomfortable place. But The Grove is completely different. It is an incredible, positive, and safe space for working out. I have no anxiety, only excitement, being at The Grove. Matt Groves has created a remarkable workout space and provides such positive, affirming, encouraging, and down-to-earth energy as a coach. He is committed to meeting his clients where they are at and working with them to reach their goals. Highly recommend!!!

I don't think I could say enough good things about training with Matt. I Started training with Matt about three and a half years ago. First at three days a week, then went to four and finally have been at five days a week for the last 2 and a half years. And its always a good time. Maybe a bit tiring, but always a good time.
He has always been willing to adjust the training due to injury or other issues. And is always encouraging and pushing me to do a bit more. I'm lifting more now than I ever did when I was younger.

Matt will change the way you think about fitness. It isn't something you do to get done, it is a journey. You might have days that are hard and days where you feel great but when you look back, you will see progress. Without Matt I know I wouldn't be able to keep up as well with my two boys and there is no way I would still be able to keep playing baseball and golf without being in serious pain. Every day I workout with Matt I know it is my one hour where when it is over I know I got better.

Training with Matt is truly one of the best decisions I've made! After having two kids, my core and my overall strength were in rough shape. Matt has helped me rebuild and regain my confidence in working out - and with my myriad of issues/concerns, I was not an easy customer at the start! Matt takes time to listen to your goals, develop a program that gradually builds on itself, and sets you up for long-term success. His wealth of knowledge means he's able to adapt on the fly as you work through your program, and the personalized attention he gives to each client results in a fun, challenging, and most of all effective way to reach your health goals. Matt is a terrific coach for all skill levels and abilities, and I look forward to my workouts with him every week!

Prior to training here, I had never had strength coaching before and always did programs I'd find online, and rarely saw the results I wanted. Being able to learn good habits in diet, lifestyle, and weight training from Matt has been an eye opening experience in terms of what I was ignorant of and what is realistically possible. He has the long term in mind, and always chooses what is best for his clients, even if they don't want to here it. He creates a fun atmosphere and is great to work with. If you are willing to do what he recommends consistently, you will see results.

I’ve been training with Matt for over a year 2x per week. His personalized training plans and semi private coaching format works great. He helped improve my deadlift by over 30 lbs in 8 weeks. And when I reached that goal he created a new plan based on my updated goals.

I look forward to my workouts every week at the Grove. I use the semi-private training option, which is affordable yet still provides highly personalized direction.
After (only!) seven months of training two times a week, I am in the best shape of my adult life even though I have always been an active person. I am experiencing a stronger body with more endurance on hikes, strength in yoga poses, and seeing my ball go farther on the golf course. I’m grateful that I found this exercise option to take care of my body. The atmosphere at the Grove is comfortable and unassuming with great people to work out with. Matt is easy to relate to, and he approaches training with expertise, rigor, and compassion. I appreciate Matt’s depth of knowledge about technique, variations, and his patience to get something working right for you.
Matt not only offers expertise in strength and conditioning training but also in health coaching. He is curious and strives to really understand where you are at and what your goals are – or helps guide you to figure them out for yourself. He keeps the focus entirely on what you want to achieve, without judgement, and offers many effective insights and techniques to help you reach your goals.
My Grove workouts are the ideal way and place to stay healthy and strong to support a better quality of life.

Matt is a great coach. I've seen him work with all skill levels from competing athletes to folks like me just trying to get some movement and exercise in their day. He's great at adapting to people's differences and can easily find alternatives or tweaks to an exercise if your body just doesn't like one. Highly recommend!

I’ve been working with Matt for several years and feel better now than I did in my 30’s. My 15 year old son started to work with Matt this summer and he is thrilled. He is learning the proper way to work out, maximizing his progress and limiting injury that I so often hear about with young men working out on their own. Highly recommended!

I have been working with Matt for nearly 3 years now, starting twice a week with a small group of co-workers. That quickly led to twice a week workouts with my wife, which has been a great way to spend time with her and work towards our fitness goals together. After spending 4 hours a week with Matt for this long, I have come to view him as not only a great trainer and coach, but a great friend. He is open, friendly, and great at reading people, so he knows when something isn't going right.
Matt is incredibly focused on helping you discover and achieve your goals - whatever they are. While I have lost a lot of weight, and am stronger than I have ever been, what I most appreciate is how he has helped me permanently change my habits and priorities to lead a better life. That is much more important than fun workouts, but he manages to pull those off too. I always enjoy my time in his gym, and look forward to the next one.
I highly recommend Matt Groves to anyone looking to improve their overall health.

With Matt's excellent coaching and encouragement I have broken 6 state records over the past 12 months. Matt is a fantastic trainer and coach!
