Easy place to navigate and understand where and what to do.
Very tall walls which proved as a challenge for me as I'm scared of heights but I love the ability to push through in a safe and fun environment

First of all, I love most of the staff and am so happy this place exists. I'm giving three stars mostly because of cleanliness and the long intervals between route setting. The gym allows people to climb in their street shoes. I find this really gross. It's a policy I've never seen at climbing gyms. My thoughts were dismissed when I brought this up to a manager after I noticed five people climbing in street shoes that day. (If the gym is worried about accessibility why not decrease the shoe rental cost to $2 and require it for all people).

Rudest, most disrespectful staff I've ever encountered. I'm hard of hearing but staff have regularly accosted me for not responding to questions or arbitray demands quickly enough. Rules are inconsistent and randomly enforced. The minneapolis gym seems to require constant repairs, holds are often loose.

It's our favorite of the VE locations for climbing, but the parking lot is not sufficient for all of the businesses that share it.
There is a good mix of routes: longer and shorter; easier and harder; auto, top rope and lead. And there are a good mix of walls from extremely overhung to slab. This is the best place to take your lead test (the other two locations use a VERY overhung wall for their lead route).

Quite long routes and lots of auto belays. The boulder area is OK but not amazing.
There are also some structured walls including cracks, but you cannot climb them with the auto belays.

I started climbing at VE in 2006 (a few years off here and there while living abroad). Over the years, VE has become much more than just my gym– it has become a second home and, honestly, a refuge. Huge shout out to the managers (Brett & Josh) for creating such a positive and supportive climbing community here in the Twin Cities. Their staff has been consistently supportive, kind, and caring as I pushed my own limits on some new climbing goals and went through some personal highs and lows. I have met some very strong climbers and genuinely good humans at this gym, and I am fortunate to now call some of them dear friends. Good vibes, interesting routes, groovy tunes, and spacious workout space. Yes, the shredded rubber tire flooring is annoying, but it's part of the charm. Also, it's on an awesome street in Minneapolis. Eat Street has amazing pre-climb coffees and post-climb food options, including live music at Ice House next door. This gym is a gem, and the people here are a big reason why I’ve kept coming back for nearly two decades.
Cautionary tale to parents: Enroll your kid in a climb club (as did my parents in 2006), and 20 years later they might end up like me—hooked on climbing for life and with an incredible community to show for it, including a life-long best-friend from 2006. Thanks, VE Minneapolis Staff, y'all are awesome!

I enjoy climbing at this gym as it offers a multiple heights of walls and plenty of auto belays, top ropes, and lead climbing routes as well. They have a workout area with cardio equipment and free weights. And they have a squat rack as well. I enjoy the comradery and meeting the people that climb here. The parking lot is not huge and is in a busy/trendy part of town so getting a parking spot can be tough depending on when you visit. I will definitely climb here again.

I’m used to high quality gyms coming here from the Wasatch Mountains. The bouldering mats are hard, I don’t feel comfortable doing any bouldering here. I gross rubber pebbles they have as flooring in the Top Rope area is gross. Also I agree with the reviewers that the facility is not clean.

The culture and staff (excluding 1 or 2 people who are great) are very disappointing. Having climbed in gyms all over Spain, Canada, Argentina and US I have never experienced such a toxic gym culture from the staff and I assume management. It’s disappointing because climbing gyms are suppose to be a place of community, openness, and good vibes. Unfortunately this gym is the opposite. I recommend making the drive and going elsewhere, and encourage the management to consider why their culture is riddled with ego & power trips.
I have witnessed multiple people having their lead certs removed in highly rude and unjustified ways by staff who seem not to have external training or significant experience. As someone trained in the field, their protocols seem less based in safety and more in power tripping. I strongly recommend that upper management in VE do an assessment of this gym. In only living here a few weeks, every single climber I’ve met in MSP has echoed this experience, suggesting to avoid this location, and drive to a different gym.

Pretty disappointed with my experience here. Everything is so dirty- it seems nothing gets cleaned before putting up new routes. Also, new routes seem to be set at a very slow pace, and the grades don’t seem to be the same as the Bloomington location. I wish there was a better sense of community here too.

Nice staff, nice facility and could be a great gym if it were just cleaned up. Every route I did was super grungy, routes hadn’t been changed in months and the holds were really greasy and dirty, many of them polished, worn out and in need of replacement. Heck, the display case of antique climbing gear looks like it hasn’t been opened and dusted in a decade or more. Maybe people who climb there all the time are just use to it and accept it but other gyms across the country are much cleaner. If you’re just passing through you might want to try another gym in the area.

Went here with 3kids and two teens. Extremely kind staff at check in and our instructor Nat was so patient with fittings for the kids. My only feedback is the cost being so high for toddlers, seems like a daytime toddler rate should be in the busienss model given they don’t do full climbs and won’t do it for long!. Overall great experience.

Rude employees and bigoted organization. It seems like it's been getting worse over the last ten years, as they are catering more to church groups and youth camps than serious climbers. The music is straight outta Walmart, the routes are reset once or twice a year, and the employees are hostile and disinterested. Finally bit the bullet and canceled my membership. I'll drive the extra 5 minutes to Bouldering Project.

I wanted to love this place as a new climber, but the staff ruined my experience. The top rope classes they offer are poorly taught by a disinterested, unprofessional staff of what looks like mostly teenagers, and will not prepare you for a competent or positive experience at the gym.
One of the staff in particular, a young woman, was quite confrontational about discouraging “coaching” between myself and my climbing partner. Although she asked us whether we understood her instruction, when asked for clarification about what she meant she rudely interrupted our questions and would not elaborate on her own critique. It was a baffling interaction that was unnecessarily unpleasant, while also failing to explain to me and my climbing partner what behavior was unacceptable “coaching.” She left us to wonder whether we would ever learn what we did wrong or whether we would have to wait for the next unpleasant interaction with staff to find out.
I canceled my membership instead.

I went here to deliver some products that were ordered through Sam's Club in Eagan MN. It was a large commercial order. The receptionist was so pleasant and even though it was cold outside she propped the double doors open to make it easier for me to bring the products inside. I had an injury to my right pinky finger that had bled on the way to this stop. The owners of this great establishment noticed it and offered some bandages and antiseptic ointment and a place for me to clean out my wound. His kind gesture made my day and I know it will stay with me forever. Don't forget that any gesture of love and kindness, no matter how small ,can be a big part of someone else's day. I want to say thank you for your kind gesture. If he runs his business on the same kindness he showed me, I highly recommend that you come here for a great workout and a great experience.

Located in Minneapolis, MN, Vertical Endeavors proved to be an exceptional destination for our family outing, especially for our adventurous 3-year-old daughter, Zoē. As Zoē's interest in the local kids' rock walls waned due to the lack of challenge, we sought new avenues to explore her potential talents. Despite initial concerns about Zoē's age and safety, the welcoming and informative assistance from staff members like Josh and Benny immediately put us at ease.
The facility's policy of allowing toddlers in for free with a paid adult not only eased our financial concerns but also showcased their understanding of children's apprehensions towards climbing. Benny's meticulous attention to detail, particularly in fitting Zoē's harness and ensuring our comfort with the equipment, was truly commendable and added an extra layer of reassurance.
Zoē's excitement was palpable as she confidently tackled the walls, displaying remarkable fearlessness and agility. It was heartwarming to witness her enthusiasm grow with each successful climb, almost reluctant to leave after three hours of uninterrupted fun. Vertical Endeavors' commitment to providing a safe yet exhilarating experience for climbers of all ages left a lasting impression on us.
As Zoē eagerly asks to return to Vertical Endeavors even as I write this review the day after our visit, it's clear that we've found a new favorite activity for our family. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the staff for creating such a welcoming and engaging environment, and we eagerly anticipate our next adventure at Vertical Endeavors.

Very mixed. If it's crowded it SUCKS and they don't have a members night a week or something to avoid that(They have one Sunday a month which is nothing), and it's a gamble if a giant crowd shows up. Kids are often unsupervised running around becoming liabilities and hogging routes. Routes are changed at a glacial pace, routes will be on the wall for 6 months or more. The bouldering is not good, the mats are bad, they might as well just get rid of that area and change the top rope routes more often. People who are interested in bouldering are going to MBP.

Visited Vertical Endeavor rock climbing gym with my family during the day. Unfortunately, the experience was less than welcoming. The front desk employee was rude to my wife and only took us seriously when I arrived. Despite our kids behaving well, we felt dismissed by patrons who seemed bothered by our presence. If this isn't a kid-friendly space, that's fine, but the overall unwelcoming atmosphere makes it unlikely that we'll return.

Wanted to try this place out with my siblings as they have never rock climbed before. But the White front desk worker must be racist or something. She expected my non-speaking or reading English mom (who is at home and have already given permission for us to come here) to sign waivers by herself at home and refused to let us in. I told her that even if I had called my mom and sent her a link to fill out, my mom wouldn’t have known how to fill it out and I would have had to fill it out for my mom anyways, but she still refused. If you have non-English speaking parents, you’ll understand what I mean. But someone who’s privileged like her would never understand. I knew it wouldn’t turn out good right when we walked in and she gave attitude as if we were stupid.
I understand she’s doing her job, but this seems a little bit too extreme. She told my mom to have the waiver translated and fill it out that way. Tbh, if Google Translate can’t even translate two good phrases in Hmong, how can it translate a whole document so that my mom can understand?
My money is better off somewhere. If you’re non-English speaking, you’re probably better off somewhere too. Would give 0 stars if it’ll give me.

Love this place! You can sign your waiver and watch an instructional video before arriving, which makes the check-in process quick. Before climbing, the staff has you hook your harness onto an auto-belay to make sure you do it correctly and then you're free to climb! We just used the auto-belay walls, but there were plenty of other people doing the traditional belays and others bouldering. If you're going on a weekend, get there when they open because it does get busy.

Helen helped check us in for our first couple climbs and she was delightful to work with. 😊 Having such a great introduction to VE really set us up for a fun time on the walls. We come to climb in the afternoon to avoid the evening rush which makes parking easier and we have most of the facility to ourselves. They have a nice variety of wall types. Great for beginners and more experienced climbers alike. Climbing is a wonderful, natural and fun form of exercise for the human body. We are loving it!

We visited on a day pass, most importantly we didn't feel safe with the top rope sets due to the rope having flat spots/sheath feeling loose, thinner ropes and rope being hung by carabineers instead of wrapped around bars at top. Half the ropes felt thin and went through device scary fast, and the other half were fuzzy and hard to pull slack.
Other than that the grades seem at least a full grade harder than similar numbers at any other gym we've been to, and caked with chalk or made slick some other way that the holds and the wall material have a very plastic/slick feel.
On a Saturday afternoon there was a noticable lack of "regulars" and nobody was climbing lead, which we found suspicious because in most gyms at peak times there would be at least a few folks that are members or frequent users at a gym and to not see them makes us think that this gym doesn't attract experienced climbers or that people in the area don't come back once they try this and a few other gyms. We saw mostly first time folks which there's nothing wrong with at all, it's just odd not to see a balance of experience levels in a place.

I am always so impressed with how this place does with kids. They are friendly and approachable and this location is never busy at 10:00 on a Saturday. I brought my daughter and two of her friends to climb for her birthday and although we paid just to climb (not a "party"), they took their time acclimating us and just being overall extremely welcoming to three rambunctious, eager 8-year old climbers. I feel pretty comfortable with climbing in general, but I'm certainly not an expert and need the supportive vibe. Exceptional for kids--I imagine this is hard to find. The kids had the absolute best time. THANK YOU!!!

Quite possibly the best Top Rope Climbing gym I have ever been to. The routes on the gym are roughly 1/3 auto belay, and 1/3 top rope, and 1/3 lead only. There are enough routes for each where I can go alone or with a friend and still have plenty to climb.
The staff is also always friendly and helpful.
If you’re hoping to boulder or use fitness equipment, I’d say the TCB location is a better fit for that

A good time to spend with your partner, friend or a new person in town. From small kids and adults, everyone can get on the wall here right away and have success with climbing up a wall. As a casual climber (5.10 routes at the most) I always have a good time and am challenged enough.
Staff is very friendly and helpful and so are the climbers themselves. Easy to strike up conversation and get to know people.
Unfortunately after COVID the 1 day annual membership was discontinued, which makes rates less affordable now.

VE I love you, but you're bringing me down. What day do I need to go climbing to avoid the huge groups of climbing teams and birthday parties? There is always some sort of event going on that makes VE Minneapolis super crowded. The same problem can be witnessed at VE Bloomington but the size of that facility makes it less intense. The kids hang around in huge groups for extended periods of time in the prime after work climbing hours.
If you're interested in bouldering and don't have time to wait for the 10+ kids morning the bouldering caves, I suggest going either to VE Bloomington or MBP once it opens.
Other than that, VE is pretty solid and it seems like the new Mpls route setters are getting better.

They're the only major climbing gym franchise in town and they know it. Machines at the Minneapolis top rope location are regularly broken for 6+ weeks. There is an abundance of auto belays, which is nice for solo climbers, but takes much needed space from group climbers. They don't communicate to members effectively about construction closures.
The walls all tall, and the setting is fairly good, albeit more challenging than many other climbing gyms. This gym would really benefit from having some competition in town. Compared with other large gyms in major cities, Vertical Endeavors-Minneapolis leaves a lot to be desired.

Probably the worst climbing gym. To start, they make any first-time climbers wait around and then go through an orientation before you can climb. This whole process burns like an hour of your time. Second, and most importantly, they make everyone wear shoes - all the time. What kind of germophobic psychotic nonsense is that? I've never encountered that at any other gym. Third, their climbing floor is made of these awful rubber chips, so the entire time you're there you're busy trying to dislodge the pieces of rubber from your shoes and all different parts of your body. Recommendation: Go to a different gym. Or better yet, climb outside.

Climbing isn't what it used to be, it's like going to Disney world now. Very busy so expect to wait inline to climb a route. Unfortunately, they do not update their routes often. There are still some there from August and September so it gets boring and repetitive climbing the same things over and over again. On top of that many of the routes aren't even labeled for what their rated. They don't clean the holds so they're jammed pack with chalk which makes them slippery. It's a nice facility as far as set up and equipment but it's not well maintained.

They even helped me and my girlfriend when we were ready to make our first gear purchases. You can tell the staff is passionate about climbing. The facility is super clean and MASSIVE! Coming to Vertical Endeavors once has turned into the healthiest addiction!

Great facility, wall heights up to 55' I think, good selection of lead, top rope, auto belay and bouldering. It's an older gym so everything is kinda dusty, air always seems dusty. Not much hand crack climbing, but there's an off hands route and some difficult over hangy really featured cracks

I have a membership and have only really climbed here and the Bloomington location. I love the convenience of the Minneapolis location and the rope routes are set pretty equally. However, Bloomington has the advantage for bouldering. More space = more interesting problems.

A decent place to climb in city limits. Day passes are pricey, I suggest a membership or punch card depending on how much you plan to climb. They have plenty of rental equipment if you don't have your own. I wish they opened earlier so I could go before work during the week. Saturday and Sunday mornings can be pretty busy. At times children are running around and need assistance clipping in or out of auto balays, and no guardian or staff is around.

Fun place, but expensive for day passes. Routes are changed quarterly or thereabouts. It can be very busy and the parking lot is always full. Staff are pretty helpful but can be a little condescending if you don't have your VE tags prominently displayed.

I love Vertical Endeavors :) The Minneapolis location is great for when I also want to grab food with friends in the area or grab coffee at Spyhouse down the street. I also like the Bloomington location, as it is more spacious. I love being a member here!

I forgot my climbing gear and had to rent when I was at VE Minneapolis. I know you can't expect the greatest from rented shoes, but they were horrible. Smelly, floppy, the velcro fell out constantly even when I was just walking let alone climbing. The harness had one loop that looked treated for metal and was meant to be used to clip in, but I also had to trust it when tieing in as there was no other possible way to connect a rope to the harness. The harness was huge and I had to constantly adjust the straps as they were coming loose. Not enough staff on the floor making sure people were climbing safely, Very different than VE St. Paul.

The new facility in Bloomington had a grand opening yesterday. We've been to vertical endeavors and were excited to have one closer. We went to the open house to learn about a punch pass, climbing team and classes for a 7th grader and a 9th grader. During our visit, not ONE person said, welcome, hello, what can I do to help you, do you have questions, can I provide you any information.
We were there for over an hour and could not get that information and staff was generally rude, harassed and "too busy" to talk have a conversaton. If what we experienced was any indication of how the facility will be run, it is sure to FAIL. The staff failed to listen or to provide any information.
We started at the table outside and told them what we wanted and the woman didn't even listen, her job was to get people to sign waivers or as she told me that the facility was going lose their insurance. I stated multiple times that we were not going to climb, we just wanted information on punch cards, classes and climb teams. It didn't matter to her....she wanted that form signed, initialed and dated and it didn't matter what we wanted or what questions we had. It was clear, she and noone else would talk to us until we had a wristband.
An open house should have had the purpose of providing information. We couldn't find any. Once we finally got back to the back corner of the facility we found a brochure on the climb teams, we were told by two staff members that they didn't know when there would be sign up and what days but they knew that there were no climb teams now and they didn't know when there might be. They could not tell us the difference between the climb teams or recommendations on how to get started.
We asked five different people about punch cards. We still don't kow how many punches are on a card or how much they are. We asked about open gym and we were told that there 1.) there is never open gym (so why do you have punch cards, 2.) that there was always open gym. I don't know which it is. I asked more than five people the same question.
We asked about classes and we were told to go to the website. So, we had a great time at the open house. We got pushed, shoved, and told to go to the website. Next, time, skip the open house, just call it open climb and those of us that were serious about getting information can stay home.

This was the second time I visited this gym. I have time to kill sometimes when I'm here for work. The staff are actually very friendly and helpful. They do a great job. They have a lead wall section, but for the most part there are just a bunch of vertical top ropes. The bouldering isn't that great. The problems are very clustered and I spent more time figuring out where the holds were than climbing. The setting has also gone downhill from the last time I've been there. I've set at many gyms before. They need to set less and set more consistent. Minneapolis definitely has room for a bouldering gym.

Decent place to go climbing if you live near Minneapolis. The route setters are pretty legit. It tends to get a bit crammed during the weeknights due to climb team, adult league and regulars that go. Best time to go would be weekdays or Sundays.

I love this place. And apparently, everyone else is deciding they do, too, because it keeps getting busier. It's awesome, tall walls, great variety of routes, and the staff switches up the routes every couple months so you constantly get new climbing challenges. Be wary of going on the afternoons on the weekends or you might find your worst nightmare in public: kids' birthday parties. If you're an adult and you want a chaos free climbing gym, I'd recommend going later in the evenings when the crowds start to die down.

Good place in the city to get your climb on. Sometimes there are just a few to many birthday parties running around, and the holds can be a bit greasy. Changing the routes more often and having some brushes on hand would be great. Also, the airflow is pretty bad, a fan in each area would be helpful.

I would rather climb outside but it's a good place to practice and get a workout. Going on the weekdays in the morning is the best idea to avoid crowds. However, The staff lately (not all but some) has been incredibly rude in saint paul and in minneapolis, I feel like I'm putting them out when I ask for tape to tape up my hands.

This place is very beginner friendly! There are all skill level- climbs located around the gym, there are auto belays so you don't need to be belay certified to try the sport and you can climb at the same time as your friends. There are tons of climbs including the 60ft ones for beginners. Best rock climbing gym ever! If you can, don't go after 4pm. It gets crowded.

The staff that worked the day that I went in was rude and didn't help at all. They said orientation is every 15 mins and I ended up waiting 45 and I decided to go up to the counter and ask for a refund but then just then they did the orientation and then when they tested me for the belay and lead belay they failed me for not verbally checking but physically checking the rope. As well the place was not clean and required alot of tlc so if I were you I would not go the this vertical and I would go to lifetime to climb unless you like rude and unobservant staff when you are trying to be in a safe climbing environment.

Lots of good auto belay routes. Beware if you fail the belay test thats the only chance you get for the whole day. It is not listed on the main rules board or explained by staff and is only on a small placard behing the counter. I've never had a problem before at other gyms but failed here. Employee then refused to show me the method she would have passed me on told me I was not allowed to practice and refered me to the class offered twice a week. My climbing partner passed the test despite a few errors, leaving us with an imperssion of inconsistency in their testing standards. We are only in town for the day, so the one test per day policy was frustrating. As former law enforcement type and military I understand that policy is policy. The company would prefer to make you come back for the class than help you be safe and learn while having some fun and working out. Thats not how I think a buisness should be run but its not my buisness. Just having consistency and clear standards for pass/fail and a simple verbal heads up to suppliment the very small sign would go along way for their customer service. Lost 2 stars for the customer service but 3 for the nice and varied routes.
