Due to poor experience at a nearby YMCA I switched to this location. They are far more friendly to people and are good with scheduling. They post the schedules for the pool, workout group times and racquetball requests. I love this place and feel it's far better. The few times I've had issue with racquetball courts the staff have addressed the other people and showed that I reserved the court for the time. I've spoken to the managers about the pool and they always have lanes open for open swim while giving the groups decent room to exercise. The gym is also very clean in the locker rooms and exercise areas. I am thankful for this gym not judging me immediately or letting other customers have higher priority. There is definitely more equal age range between older folk and middle to teenagers age range compared to my former gym. I definitely recommend this gym.

What can I say, except this YMCA is perfect. It is always well staff with friendly and helpful individuals. The facility is immaceulately clean, the weights area has everything you can need, including plenty of various cardio equipments. The weights and machines are well maintained. The classes here are great I attend body pump once a week with some friends and we love it, its a nice way to break up the monotony of lifting. The pool is exaclty what you need it to be for any type of swimming, as is the outdoor water park and slide. People using the facility are respectful and concious of cleaning after themselves. All in all this place rocks.

they dont have an egym. that doesn't bother me. the gym seems older, the lockers are rusty. but overall a great workout still. moved to a three as i watched 2 trainers working with clients and they did not have them wipe down the machines. gross!!!

I would be giving a much better review if this was a couple weeks ago. Never had any problems until a couple weeks ago when the kid stuff teachers tried disciplining my child who is 3 a day after he had bad behavior. When I confronted the teachers about the issue I was met with hostility and was told I should stay home with my child and that they were practically raising my child for me. This doesnβt make sense as I take my child to kid stuff and the gym an hour and a half out of the day about 4-5 days a week or whenever we decide to go. It is part of my routine and my sonβs routine and I pay for my membership just the same as everyone else. I should be allowed to bring my child in for the designated amount of time with being guilted by his supposed care givers that we are there too often. Iβve also never heard my child say I hate to anything until he said it about his teachers. Thatβs says enough for me. Maybe decide whether you want your children to be cared for correctly before going here. AM kid stuff teachers are who the issue was with, no one else. If I were reviewing everywhere besides kid stuff they wouldβve gotten a five star review.

ThisΒ YMCA offers a solid fitness experience, though there are a few things visitors should be aware of before arriving. On the positive side, the facility has plenty of workout equipment, from cardio machines to weight training options, making it easy to find space even during busy times. Whether youβre doing a solo workout or joining a class, the gym seems well-equipped to meet a range of fitness needs.
However, navigating the facility can be a bit confusing, especially for first-time visitors. There was no visible signage or map available, which made it difficult to find certain areas, such as the locker rooms or specific workout sections. A posted directory or clearer labeling would go a long way in improving the overall user experience.
Regarding lockers, itβs important to bring your own lock for use in the locker rooms, as they do not provide them. There are also a few lockers available outside the locker rooms that donβt require a lock or a quarter, which is convenientβthough we did accidentally insert a quarter into one, and unfortunately, there was no way to retrieve it.
Overall, the White Bear Area YMCA has the essential features of a good workout space, but small improvements in signage and clearer locker instructions could make it much more user-friendly. If youβre prepared ahead of time, itβs a great place to break a sweat.

Weβve used summer power for 4 years. Each registration year is worse than the last. The program itself is usually great. A few bad apples here and there. But the programming is good. However, the website, the tech, the production for the registration is abhorrent

Front desk staff is SUPER rude, especially Ashley. Sarah Rae is very unprofessional, she called me back to back 5 times in a row and on separate phone numbers from the times of 3:37 - 4pm when I finally had to hang up on a business phone call. The old women are bullies and will not move in the locker room and use up the family locker room that is meant for family. I have addressed this issue before and they say work around them.
Save your $$$ and get a membership to the Shoreview Community Center where your tax dollars are used for good.

It's everything you could ever want in a gym! A fantastic weights room and cardio room in one. 3 giant pools and a diving board. Two basketball courts and friendly people! Plus, the outside area surrounding the gym is loads of fun to walk/run through. Frisbee golf is always a good time, especially when smoking green. I meant this review for this gym, but I posted it about another YMCA by accident. I didn't realize until a few years later. Sorry!

When I was swimming in the laps I saw a rat running through the swim area. I told the lifeguard and he said he saw it and just completely did nothing! Later when I was leaving I asked what happened and he said he just saw it go under the bleachers by the swim team area?? Is this sanitary

I am a member at a Y in another state but have been working in the area for a few months now. This was the first gym that I visited in White Bear. The staff at the front desk was very nice and welcoming. I am somewhat disappointed by the weight lifting area compared to other Y's I've visited all over the US. The equipment is somewhat outdated and there are so many cardio machines compared to the amount of people that actually use them. There was a lot of waiting involved with weights and other strength training machines. I do like that some of the machines have counters on them, though, for times when we lose focus. I walked through the rest of the facilities and everything else was okay.

I enjoy the pool and workout area. The only thing that was disappointing to me was the fact that people were able to come into the pool area in their street clothes, strip to their swimsuits and jump into the water without taking a shower.

The staff at this facility are all exceedingly friendly, professional and kind. The facility is always extremely clean. This YMCA is great! The only thing I don't like about it is the gym floor. The gym floor is old and slippery and could be dangerous if you are running and you slip and fall. All the other YMCA's have gotten a new gym floor and I think you all should consider getting a new gym floor too.

Pengbu, the lifeguard asked for our passes, but every other person that came to the outside pool, he did not ask for passes. I watched him as he looked straight onto the pool and never turned to look at the others that were coming in. After I confronted him, he started asking other people that came in about their passes. Needs to be consistent, I made a complaint to his supervisor. Was thinking of joining, but not anymore.

My son had a great time at flag football camp held at White Bear lake Y. Staff was friendly lead by professional sports staff with additional youth assisting the kids in each group which provided a great staff/student ratio inorder for child to learn understand new skills with a personal They offered extended hours if needed. Very well put together, safe and organized with daily schedules with veriety of activities throughout day to keep them active an unintentionally unaware learning, building skills that will be used throughout their life! Decided to sign my son up up for Golf camp offered thru Y next month. Highly recommend to keep your child off the devices moving around outdoors during summer.

White Bear Y is a wonderful, down to earth, friendly Y that is welcoming for everyone. It's so conveniently located, right off 694, so it's easy to access even from neighboring communities in the NE Metro area. In my opinion, all the staff work very hard to make this Y work. Sometimes I feel guilty (but not really) because, as a Senior, my membership is free for me through BCBS insurance. I would definitely pay the membership price if I didn't have this great benefit!

Just got a full membership with the Y this past week after going through the 5-day trial the previous November (2019), and having lived in this neighborhood for 22 years growing up. Overall, a really nice facility that I think everyone should try out at least once. Schedules for open and lap swimming are often confusing and hard to understand -- one pool can be entirely closed during one period of time, where another can only have five people at once. I do appreciate that staff are kind, knowledgeable, and willing to help when you ask for it. It's also nice to see how full the facility is with the ongoing pandemic, making it easier to decide whether or not to go to your "home gym," or to head to a different site.

The place is ok. I go there to swim around almost every week but for some reason, today wasnt the best it could've been at the YMCA. I jumped into the pool and suddenly the lifeguard told me that I couldnt swim in the lap swim area, but I've always swam there. He told me that I wasnt able to swim if I was 15 and that I could only swim without a wristband if I was 16. So I had gone all the way to White Bear to swim with my sisters and relieve some stress, just to find out I'm not allowed to swim, to do what I love?? I ended up just coaching my sisters out of the pool on the pool deck and then a swim instructor came over and assured me that it was ok for me to swim and also told me that he was new. Just for future reference, please instruct your lifeguards to know their information correctly, because of the lack of knowledge or communication, I couldnt do what I signed up for, swimming, I wasnt allowed to swim for a good solid 30 minutes.
Sidenote: please put both sides of the flags in the blue pool, today I went and there was only one flag put up. I bumped my head badly because of the fact that there was no flag on one side.

My oldest daughter has swim practice here. My youngest daughter has to sit around and do nothing while we wait. I think it would be nice to get a day pass for my other child and they do not sell them since it is a normal YMCA and not attached to a community center. Hmmm what? This policy is beyond words. I would rate this YMCA lower than one star if could for this rediculous policy. I used to have a membership here, I have debated about getting a membership again. Debate finished not going to give my money for any more than I have to for swim team practice for any ymca.

Get a membership and take the kiddos to swim. You wont regret it for a second. They have watching your kids while you workout included in the membership. It's great to spend time with your family and it's also awesome all the massive amounts of different classes you can go to...included with your membership. People are super super nice and you NEVER get that feeling of people are "watching you work out" feeling. A+ to the facilities, employees and the great equipment they have. A+++

It's not the nicest or newest Y in the area, but they do a good job with what they have. Just wish they had a more fun swimming area for the kids like some Y's have, like Maplewood.
