We pay for the membership, not for the inconvenience!
YMCA shows apathy in satisfying members.
The construction project between the library and the YMCA in the parking lot has been a source of frustration. The situation has worsened with the recent closure of the main entrance, and the construction company has shown no willingness to complete the renovation. In addition, there are huge potholes that end up destroying vehicle tires.

I went for the blood pressure class and it truly helped me improve my health. The wellness coaches are excellent. I've tried with medicine and the doctor's advice, but this was the most effective. Big thanks to the wellness coaches

Today I stopped by the YMCA to inquire about membership options. When I arrived, Kathie briefly acknowledged me and suggested I take a look around before deciding. However, she made no effort to offer a tour or guidance so I wandered the building alone (first red flag).
After exploring on my own, I returned to the front desk where Kathie and another staff member, Ajeet (AJ), were engaged in casual conversation. Despite making eye contact with me and clearly seeing I was waiting, they continued chatting for nearly five minutes without acknowledging me. Finally, AJ asked if I needed help, and I explained that I was ready to move forward with discussing membership options. He responded by saying that the person who handles that was about to leave for the day (second red flag).
This was incredibly frustrating, especially since Kathie could have shared that detail when I first arrived. Instead, she allowed me to waste time wandering, which felt intentional and dismissive. When I asked if there was any information I could take home, AJ replied, βMost people just apply online are you looking for discounts or something?β (final red flag).
I was shocked by the level of indifference and subtle hostility throughout the interaction. No one inquiring about membership should be met with such disregard. The tone, body language, and lack of effort all sent a clear message: I was not welcome.
Whether it was unconscious bias or blatant racism, the experience was unacceptable. Itβs 2025 this kind of treatment should no longer be happening in any organization, let alone one that claims to serve and uplift the community.

They have been lucky enough to retain members from all the local gyms that have closed so you think that they would cater to the new members instead theyβre cutting the hours not replacing equipment and not adding equipment when they have double the membersβ¦ itβs constantly packed you canβt get a good workout!! The employees are nice, but the people that make the decisions donβt care! If I can find a reasonably priced Jim, locally, I will be gone

Bad gym, bad equipment, extremely crowded, staff rude, canβt use their pool. There is an india guy, keep saying everywhere closing in 5 minutes, closing in 5 minutes. The way he said it is very rude, quitting the membership.
Also, the swimming pool is packed. I came in the morning and saw people dancing in the pool??? Are you kidding me? Why you canβt have that lesson in a yoga room.. when asking if I can swim was told by this old lady that βyou can still use shallow waterβ if this the case, then you need to charge cheaper accordingly.

I took my daughter swimming here yesterday and there was like green algae growing on the stairs for the pool there was black spots all over the edge between the tile and the drain on the side of the pool locker room did not seem clean. I've been going to different ones around the area and this is the only one that didn't smell like chlorine also only 3 showers with doors too

We were really enjoying this gym until a few other gyms in the area closed down. This gym can simply not handle the amount of people using it now. The fact that the parking lot is under construction does not help either. There is hardly ever even a parking spot to even park your car. The gym itself is now very overcrowded. The child care appears packed every time I drop my child off. I am always worried they are going to be at their max and that Iβm not going to be able to utilize the child care. Allowing children 10 and up to use equipment in an already overcrowded gym does not help either. I really hope the YMCA considers not accepting any more new members until the current issues can level out.

This is not an enjoyable gym, it's an affordable gym. If you're looking for a gym with a pool you can lap swim at, this is not the gym for you. At least 8 hours a week are closed swim lessons so if you work, you can't get in for lap swimming.
Likewise the exercise floor is increasingly crowded. Kids (like under 12s) run rampant on the weight floor, many of them just playing on the workout equipment.
The personal training staff is great but the fact of the matter is, this location is too small to support their membership base.
Any complaints addressed to the front desk are brushed off by rude employees who tell you to "read the schedule" or "come in at 7 am". The pool schedules are not up to date on the website.

Upon my visit to the YMCA in Woodbury, it was quite a surprise to learn about a girls-only gym, especially since the assumption was that their facilities were gender-neutral. Interestingly, they mentioned an incident as a justification, but a little digging and conversations with numerous people revealed no such incident ever took place. It's curious how the narrative changes, isn't it? Seems like honesty wasn't a priority in this case.

Terrible service. Pool schedule said open swim in leisure pool and swim lessons in lap pool. We show up and a worker informed us the schedule is wrong and both pools have swim lessons. They assured us they asked the calendar to be updated but clearly they were incapable of following up. Due to laziness we now have a crying 2 year old. What a waste of $135.

Very clean but also very noisy. This place prides itself on maintaining equipment and making sure everything is safe. I will say though, working out during basketball times can be stressful as they are very very loud.
The personal training and the gym here is excellent though!

Pretty okay time here. Thereβs a party area for kids. The amenities are not whatβs on the list. There is no hot tub. There is a kiddie pool that is semi-heated. The waterslide is open mostly during the evenings but not during the day (but for sure on Friday)There are lifeguards and life vests available, there are no inflatable water toys allowed, although some toys for kids are available in the pool.
The kids time is closed before a NOON most days VERY important to know in case you thought bringing your kids and working out at the same time.
The mile walk overlooks the pool. Some of the gyms spaces are slightly dimmed and situated in short hallways. The whole gym looks smaller than youβd think with all of the amenities offered.
Hint: check out the A library that hangs off the left thereβs a nice waterfall for pictures and
Bonus: thereβs plenty of handicap parking available. The parking lot itself is quite spacious compared to most YMCAs.

Good luck talking to someone at that actual branch. I had an emergency and needed to reach an employee there. All the phones are interconnected between YMCA branchβs so when you call the number you donβt always get that branch. There has to be a better way.

Iβm rating Summer Power at that Woodbury Leadership Academy. What a horrible summer. My child has been extremely emotional and not wanting to go and every time I go to pick my
child up it looks like all the kids are not happy and staff seems stressed and donβt want to deal with them. There has been other parents that have also expressed dissatisfaction with there program and problems how staff is dealing with their kid.
There is a lot of children constantly being written up for things and some kids have autism and the staff there are not definitely NOT quality to handle these kids. Honestly, this is going to be our last summer here. Ohhhh and lets not forget about these ridiculous field trips with no shady areas for kids on extremely hot days or AC on the bus. No wonder why the kids are all miserable. My kid said itβs boring on Mondays and Fridays as they have set schedules to do things and thereβs no actual free play.
Last year was so much better than this year. Iβm so done! We will not be returning and cannot recommend this this to other families.
The day camps seem way more organized than Summer Power and the staff are more comfortable dealing with children with disabilities.

My sister and I were trying to take our special needs 6 year old neighbor to a special needs park near the YMCA. When we got there 2 groups of kids from 2 different YMCAs were on a field trip to a park specifically for kids with special needs. We werenβt able to take her since it was so full and they were having snacks that she could potentially be allergic to. I strongly hope they consider taking their field trips to a different park that isnβt made for disabled children.

This is a terrible place to exercise I went this week and it was pandemonium I've never seen a YMCA so disorganized, wild unsupervised kids were on the machines and they were running thru the dressing rooms staring at people opening the all lockers there was a worker claiming and she asked them where their parents were and they ran. NO staff was in sight

Not happy with this place. Went in and right away smelled as if no one was wearing deodorant. From the entrance right through to the pool...THE POOL! The smell overtook the chlorine of the pool. Okay... I know there is a gym and a place to workout and an aroma is expected. I have been to many gyms around the U.S. and most all smell of sweat and musky but this one smells like no one uses deodorant. If this place was to enforce the deodorant rule then more people would probably join.

I am a member of the Y and have been for a short time. I mey stop for one reason... every time I go there it smells like armpit. I can understand if you're at the gym and you smell sweat and body oder but the smell is everywhere. It smells in the pool area, basketball court, sitting area. Either deodorize the air or start telling some people to put on deodorant. I even smell the same smell even on those that didn't even have a workout.
