To the owner ,, this review is in response to the lady that accused your facility of racism regarding her 11 yr. Old child in the recent reviews . Before I go further to be fair I wanna start off by saying I’m an African American male and I’ve been a member over 5 yrs. And I’ve never experienced any type of discrimination, or racism. I will admit that in the beginning your facility wasn't a friendly, family atmosphere however after Mr. Walter started working there it immediately got better. I’d like to also add that I’m unsure of Mr. Walter’s status of employment there but I’ve heard rumors that’s not so good, but out of fairness I won’t post that in this review because it might not be accurate information but he is, or was a POSITION asset to your facility. I read the lady’s review and I also read your response. According to what you replied you have to be 11 yrs. Old, or older to gain access to the workout area. And sounds like which ever employee that approached the lady was just doing her job. BUT HOWEVER I’m in your facility right now as I’m writing this review and I witnessed a White female entered the facility with a new born baby in a carry bag visually visible on her chest. She pasted the front counter and went In the workout area stayed for about 20 mins. Then went to the walking track up stairs for about 15-20 mins. Afterwards she departed. Several staff members saw this and NEVER SAID A WORD. In conclusion I can see the lady’s point and I can see your point. I still don’t think it was racism but DEFINITELY FAVORITISM. Lastly going back to when I first joined the sign up process as everyone else was rushed through and I probably was done signing up in 15 mins. At no time during the sign up process was I explained the Rules & Regulations, which is probably why this lady became irritated because she just didn’t know that particular rule. To avoid this in the future I would suggest making your members aware either verbally or a copy of the rules and regulations. Also communicate to your staff that rules & regulations are for EVERYONE not just some.

right after we said hello, how are you , she had nerve to say: I have to answer this call, instead of helping people right in front of her.

for the girl at left acting as described, which makes herself appear doesn't take pride of her job which is very STUPID but also make her employer Lose business.

The reception desk, is often the first point of contact for a customer, and it can make or Break their perception of a business.

A good business will indeed lose customers not because of the quality of its products or services, but because of poor customer service at the front desk.

This initial interaction sets the tone for the entire experience.

It's the point where all the marketing, branding, and promises either pay off or fall flat.

My experience has been wonderful. I go there to have water therapy because I’ve had back surgery. It is the only place between Memphis, Tennessee and Jackson, Mississippi that offers water therapy that I know of. Have some wonderful people that works there.. they are very experienced at their jobs very caring and very understanding.

I’m extremely disappointed and hurt by how I was treated at DAC in Southaven. I’ve been a member for years and chose this gym because I believed it was family-friendly and welcoming to all. Unfortunately, I’ve experienced discrimination more than once, and today was the last straw.

I checked in with my 11-year-old son, who is of age to be with me in the gym, and as we walked to the locker room, a white front desk employee chased me down to say he couldn’t be there. The manager then told me he couldn’t go to the daycare either because of his age—but instead of offering a solution, they demanded I pay a random additional fee just for him to be with me on the gym floor. I’ve seen other children his age, of other races, allowed without issue.

As a single mother with no support, I found this completely unfair. I’ve tried to overlook past experiences—even a few years ago when I was body-shamed and accused of dressing inappropriately. Back then, a manager defended me. But today, no one did. Today, I felt the sting of racism, bias, and exclusion, and I walked out.

This is not a family gym. It’s not an inclusive space. And it’s certainly not somewhere I feel welcome anymore.

I just started going back after being down for a few months. I’m so glad I am back in the gym. The energy and the staff always make you feel welcome and are always around if you need assistance with anything. Best gym and staff in Desoto County!!

This gym has been fantastic.They have upgraded their equipment.Which allows you to feel the burn on the target muscle way more intensely. The staff is always nice and knowledgeable. Even the community attending have been very nice and polite. I'm from Ohio is a new resident of Southaven. The only thing I can say for improvement would be more washer stations around the gym and a little bit more enforcing of people wiping the machines.

The downside is that they have very few equipment for the price a month there’s should be more updated equipment and space to exercise instead of a crowded space with old machines. Specially the cardio equipment there’s a lot of that occupying space.

On top of everything they don’t tell you that you are signing a 1 yr contract and now that CRUNCH is coming to the area they don’t want to let you CANCEL unless you move 15 miles away or have a Dr. Note ! Funny thing is that last month when I tried to CANCEL my MEMBERSHIP they told me that I needed to go into the club to CAMCEL or App the App didn’t let me and When I call they tell me I have a 1yr MEMBERSHIP ALL THE SUDDEN. Now I’m stuck paying for a Gym membership that not worth it! This gym is for SENIORS .

I have been a member to many gyms in the area. Infact, I still have 2 memberships to gyms I frequent. I can see how and why this gym was voted #1 in Desoto county multiple years in a row. They offer many amenities and the smoothie bar stands out. However… 😩 the equipment on the floor honestly grosses me out. So many covers to the seats are peeling back, it’s hard to adjust the machines to your liking and it’s simply outdated. When I signed up I was told new equipment was coming. I truly hope so because the equipment is a complete turn off. This gym is too nice to have old, rusty, outdated, poor aesthetic looking machines, I can say everything else is pretty solid though. I have the highest membership and it’s worth the price. Just please upgrade those God awful machines.

My family and I loved the gym while we lived in MS. We NEVER had any issues while we were there.

We cancelled our membership in July because we were moving to Georgia. They told us we would have one more payment in August. We did have a payment taken out on August, but also in September and October.

This message is NOT to complain, but give a shout out to AMANDA! She was fabulous and helpful. She has returned the $29x2 for my husband and I for September and October. She even deleted our debit card from our old accounts so they won't be charged again. So thank you AMANDA, your AWESOME! 😎😄😘

EDIT. It has been months since my original review and nothing has changed. I had shown them the pictures and told them about the bulbs being out in the stand up for over six weeks now and guess what’s been done? Nothing but I think it’s even worse that they responded here and admitted the bulbs need to changed but yet they’re still selling tanning packages while already Knowing the bulbs are no good. That tells you a lot about this gym and how they take care of their people that pay money to go here. If you notice all the lotions that they sell are not only bronzer (because that’s the only way you’re going to get any type of color here) but they’re also lotions that our second rate on the market. The one time use packets they’re selling for $14.99 to $10.99. Considering how bad the bulbs are you would think they would give them away for free. The second picture shows the dirt and dust and hair underneath the tiny plastic on the bed, which shows you how long they have been this way. They never have the beds clean and while I do understand

I bought a tanning package here because they had an unbelievable deal. I should’ve known by the price that it was too good to be true. I asked when they had last changed the bulbs in their beds and I was told that they change them as they go out. Ummmmm. That’s not how that is supposed to work. Tanning bed bulbs, lose their potency after usage of 500 to 800 hours of usage.. I was informed that these have not been changed since the remodel almost 2 years ago! I would rather them raise prices and change the bulbs the waste my time for an hour, a day going to use something that does no good. I put a Band-Aid on the same spot on my leg to test to see if I got any color after going several times in a week. You guessed it. No color change at all. I also should mention that the beds are always dirty. I thought it seems they never sweep the floors. Also, the same stall has been out in the bathroom for at least a month. Just because you want to charge an expensive prices. Doesn’t give you justification for not changing out of your bulbs as you should.

This gym has the worst customer service after the a.m. shift. The ladies Who open up in the morning, fantastic. But in the PM, the gym is constantly dirty constantly unorganized bathrooms are always a mess. Incompetent Front desk staff. I had loved this gym for years. I am not sure what changed with their management/billing process, but there must be a glitch or someone made a mistake. Mistakes happen and businesses should try to own up to them instead of punishing loyal customers. I never missed a payment at this over-priced gym because I had it set to auto-pay. Well somehow they said my membership had not been paid for months. I was not made aware at all by DAC, but by collections. The gym has my address, email, and phone number on file. I should have been made aware before sending a pitiful amount of around $100 to collections. Many reviews are saying similar things. I wouldn't sign up again and wouldn't recommend them. There is nothing special about this gym.

The manager named Chris is extremely rude. I called to complain because the sauna has not worked properly in weeks. I would not have signed up for this gym two years ago had I known that there were going to be multiple hoops I had to jump through to get to cancel it when I stopped going. You have to cancel online, and the point is to make you pay dues for the next month, despite cancelling not even 5 days after your payment was initially due, because the cancellation can take up to 30 days. Yet, I still have access to the gym for the next 30 days. No one should be locked in to paying for an entire month's worth of a service they're trying to cancel. I like this facility, but I do not like the practice of charging for every single thing and having gym-goers pay for months they won't even be at the gym.

I joined Desoto Athletic Center in February of 2023. After researching several gyms, I decided to go with DAC because it fostered a great atmosphere and fit my needs. Unfortunately, my positive experience halted yesterday when my eleven year old son was aged discriminated. Prior to bringing my son to gym, I confirmed with a representative that my son was of age and could work out. A representative confirmed he was of age and informed me of the waiver requirement and fee. On 3/17/23 my son was excited to join me at the gym for his first workout and to spend some much needed quality time together. When we entered the gym, we didn’t have any problems. Some team members were very helpful, with the exceptions of a few who accused my son of being four and not eleven. I explained to the team members my child was indeed of age and not four. My son is not tall, in fact, he is considered short for his age. This isn’t unusual to me since I am 5’7 and his mom is 5’3. This was hurtful and discriminatory. My son has always been teased about his height. He is going to have to deal with it for the rest of his life. He was very upset and didn’t understand why he had to stop his workout. I spoke with several team members and they refused to rectify the situation. It is unbelievable that team members wouldn’t take a parent’s word. DAC needs to invest in some sensitivity training and customer service. If anything they should have requested for me to bring proof of my son’s age at the next workout instead of the chaotic and uncomfortable scene they created. In addition, no one would relay the correct information for me to contact corporate to discuss the situation. As of now I am remaining there because of distance and I refuse to drive 30 minutes to the ymca in olive branch. Also attached is a picture of my “4 year old” for reference.

Had some trouble with getting membership going, but place is amazing!! Indoor/outdoor pool. Classes for anything and everything! I'm new to a gym so they recommended starting with a class called foundations to build my strength and stamina. They have combat classes that teach self defense while you work out. All kinds of cycling classes. Yoga, pilates. Step classes. Or you can just do your own thing. Different levels so for a little more you get tanning beds and water massage. They have protein shakes and other high protein snacks available.

The Billing Department is VERY Rude! I normally go to the DAC location in Collierville where I pay more money $59 instead of $54.99 for LESS amenities( $60 extra per year). The instructors are AMAZING but the management is awful because it's controlled by this location but there are different prices and rules. Places like ATC charge the same price, it should be no different (They have no good explanation for this). They also have no family packages even thought they offer childcare. My husband uses ATC since it's more than 1/2 the price to come to the DAC. The only thing that keeps me coming are the AMAZING instructors period. DO BETTER DAC Southhaven!

My partner and I signed up for a membership in March of 2021. When we signed up, NIC assured us that our membership was a month-to-month membership... I asked him if I could actually read the contract and he "assured" me that everything on the small pad in front of me was what was on the paperwork.. It wasn't. When I finally got my paperwork, it said auto-renewal open. I thought that meant it would auto renew every month and thought nothing of it. The contract outright contradicts itself.. Our debit cards were charged BEFORE we finished signing the paperwork.. I asked if there was a way to freeze the account if covid gets worse, he said yes. What he DIDN'T tell me was that my contract would just be put on pause nor did he tell me that it would still be $5 a month... He made a point to make it as confusing as possible..
At first, we enjoyed going, until they stopped their mask and social distancing rules.. Until we saw too many people not cleaning their equipment.. Until teenagers were allowed to run around in string bikinis.. Until some woman was changing her clothes where everyone could see her... Until the machines were breaking down and not being fixed.. Until the roof was LITERALLY caving in.. the list goes on. They even offered me a "reward" for my birthday that I was already paying for! The majority of the building is in shambles and run by teenagers.. I have PTSD and had hoped I would be able to go to a gym and not feel objectified. That was a mistake. This is absolutely a bait and switch scam.
When my partner called to inquire about stopping the auto renew, they told us the only way to do so was via mail. Their website says you can do it online or in person... I want my membership cancelled IMMEDIATELY and a refund for April and May, possibly June if they charge me the DOUBLE amount once a year for "repairs" they NEVER do but have no problem donating to local "organizations." We will be filing a complaint with the BBB.
Edit in response to "response." Yea.. I cancelled, that doesn't resolve the issue of BEING LIED TO and NO option to cancel online. Great generic response, glad you didn't read any of the review... Give my money back...

We had swimming lessons there , it was expensive and not worth it. The Coach was unprofessional and she was wasting time teaching kids how to jump into the water all the time .
I had to stop coming there even though we still have lessons to take.

I had a lot of trouble cancelling my account until I did leave a review on here. However, the woman I spoke to the next day was very friendly and got my membership canceled so I didn’t have to drive three hours to get my membership canceled. I am very grateful for this.

Really great gym! Has everything you’ll ever need from all the workout equipment, indoor and outdoor pools, running track racquetball and tennis courts as well as many other options for classes and other types of training. Highly recommend.

I overall am a fan of the DAC. It is the best overall gym in the area & it does have lots of extremely attractive amenities. I believe their gym equipment & variety of exercise equipment is their strength I give the gym a 4 star. I believe their weakness is cleanliness. Primarily in the Bathrooms. I am a daily user of the gym and believe the management & staff could do a much better job of keeping the men's restroom clean. The floor is constantly soaken wet, there are no fans blowing to try and dry the moisture, & the steam room smells like mildew. I give cleanliness (primarily bathrooms) a 2 star.

The requirements for a membership are 18 yrs and up. After I informed them and furnished proof that my son is only 14. They still refused to cancel membership but they will continue to keep charging my card.

My last experience wasn't a good one. I was charged $160 to allow my kids and a couple of family members swim for one hour. I'm not in town often, so they actually make money off me, because I'm only in their gym maybe 10-15 days a year. So when I am in town, my kids usually like to swim up to this point, they have been great about letting them swim for a minimal cost... but $160 to swim for one hour? That's all they got to swim, one hour. Cannot say I'd recommend.

I've been an on and off gym member since 2009. I love it here and don't think I would be comfortable anywhere else. The times that I stopped coming were due to my World of Warcraft addiction and a year I spent in another country.

I love all of the trainers here. The team training is worth it. The equipment is kept up to date and repaired pretty quick if something breaks.

This gym just feels like home.

Friendly, knowledgeable trainers can modify your workout to fit your level of fitness. DAC Fitness has nearly any exercise equipment you can imagine, as well as both indoor & outdoor pools. Gym has always been very attentive to cleanliness, and even more so during the pandemic. Can't imagine going anywhere else.

I really enjoy this gym. The amenities and equipment are great. The staff is very helpful and pleasant. My only complaint is that the weekend hours are really inconvenient for folks that want to get a early work out in and have a productive day. Please open earlier on Saturday and Sunday.

Recently moved to the area.
Don’t have a local ID so I’m “not allowed” to do the free trial to try the place out.
So I say “okay that’s fine, I just wanted fo try the gym I’ll do a day pass”
And the manager, without a smirk says “okay that will be $35”.
THIRTY FIVE DOLLARS… for a ONE DAY guest pass.
The monthly membership is less than that.
What an absolute joke that is. How can you be any less welcoming?
