I come four to five times each week. For all practical purposes, I'd give it a perfect score with the exception of how the youth climbing team is managed. I think it's fantastic that youth have the opportunity to do this, but, one) the space isn't "shared" well while they're there. They simply get a whole section of the (bouldering) wall to themselves for what feels like 30 or 40 minutes. Second, not all of the staff manage the team professionally. Some do; but, it can leave the gym feeling like a day care center with undertrained care givers at times.
I know that the task is challenging and, again, I'm glad the youth have this opportunity, and there's bigger problems in the world, but... I think this is a legit criticism that could realistically be improved on with a little TLC.

Tremendously disrespectful. Have never felt the need to leave a bad review but this place effectively stole my money, management was condescending. Have recommended everyone I have talked with climbing to avoid this place at all cost and will continue to do so. So unprofessional

Climb So iLL at the Power Plant is an absolutely fantastic rock climbing destination! We visited for an office event and it exceeded all expectations. The place is vibrant, colorful and full of positive energy. Whether you’re a first-timer or an experienced climber, there’s something for everyone.
Both kids and adults had a blast—there are challenges suited for all age groups and skill levels. The staff is incredibly friendly, helpful and ensures everyone feels comfortable and safe. The facility is clean, well-organized and the overall atmosphere is energetic and motivating.
It’s not just about climbing—it’s about fun, fitness and pushing your limits in a supportive environment. Great for team-building events, family outings or even solo sessions. Highly recommended!

I visited Climb So iLL for the first time and, unfortunately, didn’t have a great experience. The gym itself is fine - the bouldering area is fairly limited, and there are a few auto-belay routes around the 5.9 range. There are also top rope and lead-only routes that looked great, but I wasn’t allowed to climb them.
When we arrived, not knowing how limited the bouldering section was, we said we were just planning to boulder - mainly because the staff asked us to demonstrate the auto-belay clipping. Later, when we asked to take the belay test so we could access the rope routes, we were told we couldn’t because we had already started bouldering and had been in the gym more than 15 minutes. That was apparently gym policy - but it wasn’t communicated to us at check-in.
To make it worse, the staff used our earlier comment about “just bouldering” as the reason to deny the belay test, which felt frustrating since we were just answering a direct question without understanding how limited that choice would be.
I’m based in California, have been climbing for 6 years and have never run into a policy like this. It felt unnecessarily strict and poorly explained. A heads-up at the start would have made a big difference.

Hands-down one of the coolest places I’ve found near the old City Hospital in St. Louis. From the moment you walk in, the vibe is super welcoming—whether you’re a total beginner or experienced climber, you immediately feel like you belong here.
The staff is incredibly friendly and professional, always ready to help or guide you without any judgment. What really stands out is the sense of community—everyone takes turns climbing, encourages each other, and there’s a respectful, almost unspoken rhythm to how people interact. It’s like being part of this awesome little niche climbing family.
They also offer bouldering, yoga classes (which I’m doing!), and a beautifully designed space that makes the whole experience feel modern and inspiring. It’s not just a climbing gym—it’s a space to move, grow, and connect.
If you’re even thinking about trying climbing or want a place to hang out with genuinely good people, this is it.

The routes here change often and will challenge you no matter what your skill level is! There is a shorter wall and a super tall wall with a super fun massive overhang. Also plenty of space for kids and beginners, and plenty of new routes for experienced climbers.

I used to love this gym, but it has some horrible sanitary policies. Members should be required to wear shoes at all times when in the main gym area. The spread of althetes foot or other illnesses is too great otherwise. Be careful if you choose to use their facilities.

This gym is just straight up GORGEOUS! But better than that, it's a solid gym with solid setting and a solid community. I'm so lucky that my job sends me to this area often so I can keep coming back!
But I can't overstate how freaking sweet this gym just looks. I love it! If you're looking to get into climbing, this is a great place to start!

This is our go-to climbing spot. Always clean and there seems to be a refresh in boulders/routes each time we go. It can get tight when they get busy but there is no helping that. They offer rentals as well as allow you to bring your own gear with the purchase of a day pass or membership. Parking never seems to be an issue for us.

I dont believe this gym is worth the price. I think if you live close by and really are just looking to stay in shape it is fine. If youre willing to drive to Upper Limits I do suggest you do so. The bouldering is crowded, small, and the space is cramped. As well the problems are all very gimmicky. Theyre great if youre trying to look cool but as far as working boulder problems it takes you to the far end of gym vs real rock climbing. The sport wall is not large so hopefully you arent going at any reletively busy times. They have very few autobelays, which isnt for everyone, but for me it does make solo sessions and warming up less convenient. Their spray wall is fine but theres no moon board. The rest of the workout space is barely enough to use. Minimal dumbell selection, one rack, and 2 ergs is it. I like some of the extra tools they have for hand exercised but the space is unorganized and some things just get lost. They have a solid selection of hang boards and a nice campus board. So again if youre looking to stay in shape, you live next door, and are flush with cash, this place will do the trick. The front desk staff is kind and helpful but management was not helpful and rude. Hopefully you wouldnt have to deal with them. So basically, drive to Upper Limits, its worth it, iLL is not.

This isn't my usual home gym ... But it was a nice spot to try some new routes and a little different layout.
They have a small entry way where you can check in, a few items for sale, but being a climbing store is definitely not their focus.
The bouldering area has one good sized wrap around.
The backside drops down a floor to give you a pretty high tall wall with a little variation.
They have auto belay, sport, lead, and bouldering.
It is not a large facility, but it is pretty nice
Restrooms and locker rooms are downstairs.
The staff were friendly. Naturally you have to jump through a few liability hoops with them and test out for belay safety.
Definitely enjoyed it and would say it is worth checking out to get a little variety at a new facility.

Several years ago So ill used to be known as the more friendly gym option in the St. Louis area, especially for beginners. Now if I bring a beginner, there is no teaching allowed (I guess they have cracked down on this). So no showing how to work an ATC, tie in, belay, etc. With no coaching, the beginner is required to on the spot show they can do all the above, or if not, then they can pay to take a top roping course (give me a break). Although I was told I could walk them through that teaching beforehand in the parking lot, just not in the gym, smh. I used to always recommend to beginner climbers So ill over Upper Limits due to the more friendly environment, now they are pretty much the same. So if you are deliberating over which gym, just pick a gym based on price and location to you. Unfortunately the gyms in the areas just aren’t like the ones in Utah or Colorado.

Very nice facility the guy working the front desk didn't seem super friendly but he helped us get equipment and the prices were very reasonable. They had quite a few auto belay routes so that was nice and the bouldering wall was well worth it. Overall a good experience and well worth the money.

Climb so Ill is a great climbing facility. I've been to all 4 climbing gyms in the St. Louis area, and this is my favorite location. The route setting is fun and creative, and I feel like the grading is accurate and well done. I also love the climbers, the staff, and the friends that I've met here. I definitely would recommend Climb so Ill to anyone looking for a quality climbing gym, whether you're stopping through for one night or looking for a new home climbing gym, it's worth a visit.

Super friendly staff. Wonderful routesetting (very technical, and "old school" as the staff calls it.). Love the people that climb there, everyone is very friendly and supportive. I've mostly been bouldering, but they have some top rope and lead climbing as well. Cannot compare to upper limits climbing as I have not been there. It's a smaller gym than ones I'm used (TRC in NC and Denver Ubbergrippen/the spot).
The facility is well kept. The "gym" feels more like a garage gym, but it has all you need for a solid workout. Plenty of photos online already, but I suggest giving it a visit! Then get a membership.

Extremely friendly staff, very noob friendly but also several extremely advanced walls. Multiple different walls with auto-belays so you don't have to be certified or have a belay partner, an entire section dedicated to bouldering less than 15 feet. Haven't climbed in 10 years, went here yesterday with my wife and immediately felt the same sense of accomplishment as I used to feel back then. Strongly considered a membership and making this my new gym/workout, and if I didn't live an hour away I would have signed us up in a heartbeat.

$34? For a day pass and gear (shoe rental included)
Staff has you sign some waivers and explains how the auto belay system works… then just sends you on your way.
A couple climbs with the auto system, but you’d probably want a (certified?) friend come along for a lot of the climbs.

Not impressed. Pricing was inaccurate right off the bat. Top rope test may as well be a lead test, not much difference from other gyms lead. Never had to take an unannounced fall in dozens of different gyms for top rope. Traveling through, glad I only did a day pass. Staff wasn’t very knowledgeable, and nobody ever helped with questions i had. Definitely not beginner friendly, but luckily not beginners. Holds don’t seem to be cleaned much. Boulder area is small with harder than average sets and vague grading. There’s an attitude vibe here, too. At least the top amd lead wall is tall with good moderates. Daughter and I won’t be back.

5 stars because of the staff. Everyone was so kind and helpful. I'm not a lead climber but I'm starting the training now because the curved sport wall they have looks as fun as Broadway Bar is tasty.
If you want a challenge this is the spot. It's probably because of all the outdoor routes just a skip and a jump away, but, damn they grade it hard out here. I was attempting the V4-6s & v6-8(I think) because the V3s felt just as hard. 🤷 Also there was a lack of patrons cleaning holds so just get ready for some hard-core brushing to send that climb!

They are not accommodating when it comes to pausing or cancelling memberships. You have to go to the facility if you want to pause your membership even if you are unable to make it there. I liked climbing here but it is unfortunate they cannot be more accommodating. I understand it says in the membership form but it is still not a great policy for people who may need to go out of town last minute for a family emergency or something else that comes up last minute. Just something to think about before getting a membership.

Unfortunately, I must leave a negative review after 3 years of membership. For personal reasons I wanted to take a break from climbing and cancel my membership for the time being. I was, however, unaware that the contract I signed years ago included a stipulation that the membership must be cancelled within a certain, arbitrary number of days before the next billing cycle. The staff informed me I would be charged for an additional month against my wish because I didn’t meet this requirement. Apparently nothing could be done about this. It’s sad that after 3 years, I left with the feeling that I wasn’t a valued member of the Climb So iLL community. I was hoping to rejoin in the future but now I will not be doing so. Be aware of this when you sign your contract or terminate your membership, and don’t make the same mistake I did.

Climb so ILL is a great place to start learning how to climb. I first started climbing here and I continue to go here to learn. They have a oververt wall downstairs, along with a small gym to get reps in before climbing, while the main level has a 50ft + wall, as well as a beginners wall and a practice wall for every level. Typically $20-$30 for a day, along with rental shoes. They also offer classes to learn how to belet as well as safety. Great place, great prices, great times. Highly recommend.

The “original” of the two existing SoIll gyms, I was a member here for a couple of years and loved it. Of all the gyms I’ve been to across the country, I believe Climb SoIll has the best setup. Autobelays for folks climbing alone, top rope for beginners with their friends/family, shorter/simpler routes for the younger crowd to get introduced to climbing, lead routes for folks to challenge themselves and their belaytionships, and a Boulder wall with some great routes built in.
This place can get crowded though, so sometimes you have to wait for your shot on the desired section of the wall. With COVID, you’ll need to make a reservation to make sure you can come in to climb, but still worth it!

Great climbing spot. Started climbing about a year ago and this gym is the greatest. Community is superb. Routes are challenging, and can accommodate all skill levels. Very clean, they keep the ropes fresh and the routes fresher. Even have a gear shop inside. Great climbing gym.

Had a good time here. I guess if there is a downside it's the popularity. We spent a lot of time waiting for a turn. Good for them!

We came in on a Sunday and had a blast! We didn't have to wait around to climb, even though it was very crowded there were just so many places to climb! The staff was awesome and very friendly!

Great staff and awesome space. Ratings are a bit soft, it's often crowded, and the bouldering wall is on the small side, but overall a nice gym.
