The course was very nice … but it was our first time to play this course and there was no layout of the holes so we could see what we were playing ! Most places have a picture right next to the place which says what hole . Also most places have the layout on the back of the cards , but not this place . There were also very little yardage markers , only paint on the cart path that you can’t see if you are in the middle of the fairway! No stakes at all to let you know the distance ! And if this is sipped to be a high end course then we’re are the gps screens on the carts ! I have played much cheaper place that have the gps screens ! They want us to use a qr codes and look the hole up on you tube ! Well I don’t want to see it on you tube I want a course layout on the card or at the start on the hole !! I can’t find the way to reply to highland reply but getting the video layout on youtube is totally stupid and I hate it !! I don’t want to spend my golf outing on my phone and on you tube !! A simple print out on your card like all the other golf course have is a cheap fix and you to say that the gps on the cart are expensive !! Well so is your course ! Sullivan has then Meramec Lakes has them and they are both cheaper than your course!! I will definitely NOT be back !!

This is one of the best courses around. My son does private lessons there. It’s a challenging course but greens are in amazing shape. If you’re looking for a course to become a member at this is a good one. After a round they have a nice relaxing lounge to grab a drink and you lookout at the 18th green. Try it out for yourself.

Overbooking tee times while charging $70, leading to 5+ hours rounds is certainly a choice

Edited to add response: I'm sorry but the backup was more to do with squeezing in some sort of scramble outing than CPO

Moved to the area a little over a year ago and I consider this my home course. It’s definitely my favorite in the area. The course is well maintained and the staff is great! Would recommend to anyone looking to golf in the area.

Awful experience! Paid $60.00, cart paths only, and get stuck behind a group of six teenagers. They were running around, not playing seriously, and the adult in the group was just as ridiculous and irresponsible. We were forced to stay behind this group for twelve holes!
Ar the end of the round, I complained to the gentleman working the desk and he told me they were a high school team. Seriously?
I have never seen anything like it and I will never return to this golf course. All I got was a lame apology and still out the money for a horrible experience. Save your money and go elsewhere!

This has become my go to course since moving to barnhart over the last couple years. Great staff and service, greens are always in great shape. The fairways can use some work but hoping they will get better as the season goes on.

I was injured on golf course and didn't get help in resolving my issue. Not very happy with the staff or any of it. I didn't even get my money back. Only played a few holes before being injured. Not a good place to play!

One of the best courses in St. Louis and we are lucky enough have it right here in our back yard. Course is always well maintained. Always fun with rolling hills and nice scenery. Josh and Jennifer are the best, and take great pride in the course and your experience.

Great, beautiful well cared for golf course. I’m 73 and don’t walk very good anymore and it’s hard to get to the tee boxes and greens. None of the cart paths get close to them. On top of that all of the tee boxes and greens are elevated or tough to get to so it’s hard to get to and from them. If you’re younger and healthier it’s great. I don’t think I’ll be playing there again anytime soon.

This is a beautiful golf course with rolling hills and scenic views. The grounds are very well-kept, with pristine greens. Difficulty is moderate to somewhat challenging. There is also a nice driving range right by the clubhouse. I like to warm up by hitting a few balls there before playing. I've played many courses in the St. Louis area, and this may be the nicest around. I highly recommend this course.

Grass in the fairways was nonexistent. Tee boxes and areas around the greens were fairly good. Green speed, which are normally quite fast, were very slow and inconsistent. Don't understand that here it is almost May and there's no grass in the fairways. Very disappointing.

Great course, unfortunately the staff was rude and they have false advertising. Make sure you book your tee time online, otherwise they will charge you $20 per person for cart fee. I've never heard of this in over 20 years of playing golf. It's too bad the gm Josh doesn't focus on customer service.

This is a great tournament venue. Fairways and greens in very good shape, and it's Sept. The first cut rough was good too. I love playing Crystal Highlands, it's just SO EXPENSIVE. The average golfer, with a family, cannot afford the membership price, around $3000. Or the greens fee, at about $60 with cart. Same for the membership, it does include cart, driving range, etc. It's just a lot for me.
Great course though. And, cudos to those involved in the upkeep.

Absolutely fantastic, I put it just behind Annbriar, Difficulty is on Par with Annbriar, but obviously not the Fairway condotion and green conditions and type. Great Clubhouse, restaurant was closed, and this is my only pet peave, they had premade sandwiches that were dry, worth about 1.00 in food cost and they charged 7.50, come on people I had a barbecue sandwich at Tapawingo that was so big I couldn't finish it for 8.50.

We went to Crystal Highlands GC with a good friend to play our first round, and the staff is very friendly. The course is in fantastic condition, with really fast greens, lots of heights and steep terrain, and it looks stunning from the tees to the greens. We had a great time playing and will be returning soon. To share with my friends, I produced a YouTube video.

My issue is with the system. Our group had 1 Sr. For 18 holes, 1 regular for 18 and 1 for 9 holes. I tried to call because the on line system would not allow us to do it. When I called no one knew how to do it on line. The gentleman who answered was very nice and even asked others. They wanted to charge more to do the reservation on a call. This does not make sense to me, especially when the entire day is wide open with tee times. Maybe they don’t need the extra $. We will enjoy our day at another course.

My husband brought our son and another father/son to play for his birthday. They played 8/6/22. Paid $70 per person. The heat that day with heat index was around 105 degrees. No water anywhere to be found on the course! Our son finally said something to someone who worked there. Still no water. He ended up with heat stroke. They will not be going back again.

Excellent experience! We were worried because of recent negative reviews of course conditions, but the reviews don’t jive with our experience. Asked the manager and he explained that the grass gets better as they move into summer. Course is very well maintained, beautiful layout, nice amenities and staff is very helpful! Unexpectedly needed 3 clubs regripped, to be playable, and they did it on the spot πŸ’ͺ Looking forward to next playing opportunity!

Was looking forward to playing this course for awhile since it went public. After the 73 mile drive, I don’t think I’ll be going back until they can convince me the fairways are good. Very nice layout, super fast greens which were very hard , but we’re also very fun. But the fairways were just blah, almost like hitting off mowed weeds and mud. I know previous reviews said fairways were iffy and they got me. For the $67 dollars to play, I will never pass up Annbriar again for the same price to come here. Would rate higher if fairways were decent and price was lower.

I played the course in early April and the fairways were very thin. The greens were quick and challenging but in avg shape. I am hoping this was simply the time of the year but not completely conviced that is the case. I have always loved the layout and played it regularly prior to UP purchasing the course. I was glad to see it reopen as public again but unfortunatley I feel the "in season" green fees are a little too expensive for the course based on condition and location. My personal opinion but I can definitely find better value at several other courses closer to STL or in Farmington. As soon as the fees are more in line with the overall golf experience I will be back out there as I do think the course is a nice golf course, just not an elite one.

Finally, one of the BEST courses in the St. Louis area is open to the public again!!! Very playable for all skill levels. The course conditions are wonderful and the views are beautiful!! Staff is customer service friendly! Our families say the only down side is we wish the green fees were a little lower... but well worth the price! We also wish senior discount was 55 not 65 age group.. Many other local courses senior policy is age 55 and up. To all St.Louis golfers,, this is a excellent course that won't disappoint!! Well worth the drive to Jefferson Co.!!

We played here yesterday and from the moment you turn into the property you have that private country club feel. We started with a bucket of new range balls on a prestine driving range tee box. However the range doesn't have that true driving range feel you will be hitting into a rolling terrain or farm like field. I would love to see a minimal grading and better targets to have that range look and feel.
Continuing to the practice green you soon realize the complexity of the course and greens. After rolling some putts we made our way to the first tee and was greeted by the starter. We all played the blue tees which on most holes were not the back tees,, unsure if another tee will be added or they just pushed the tees forward. Not a long course by scorecard standards but add up the totals in the end and you maybe surprised.
The opening par 5 is a great starting hole and ample Birdie opportunity. The course is a great shot makers layout not needing your driver or 3 wood off the tee on many par 4's. There are several blind tee or approach shots so take the time to drive up and look at your line.
The contour and speed of the greens will challenge the best of putters. I found myself above the hole and having to lag sideways to protect my par attempt which on several holes was impossible to stop. So expect a three putt or two and don't beat yourself up over it since many birdie attempts are possible. The par 3's are all challenging and #17 maybe there signature hole.
We played the round in a little over 4 hours, the pace was good we let one single play through which I do not understand why any course allows singles out. Please pair all singles up who wants to play alone.
The course is fun and in great condition however when it was only getting 50 rounds a year when it was private I just wonder how it will hold up after going public, a few greens looked stressed already.
After your round having that cold one on the deck enjoying your view you'll discuss the round with your friends and ponder over a few of your club selections you made or putts you missed. This will drive your desire to want to return and play this course again and again.

Just played this course today. In it in great shape. If you are looking for a long course this is not for you. It's on the shorter side and you can get on the greens in 2 on every hole. The hardest part on this course is the greens. They are in great shape but almost impossible to 2 putt. I will be back again . No food yet but should be open in a few months once remodel get done. Thanks for the fun times

I was mightily surprised to find this absolute gem of a course opening to the public. It was too beautiful to sit unused. As good as it looks, it plays even better. It is challenging, but not to the point of aggravation or exhaustion. The greens are some of the most challenging available in the greater St. Louis area (and even beyond). Also, the folks running the place are very friendly and seem quite committed to making this course what it could have always been.

I play golf too much (if you ask my wife) my favorite course in the area in Gateway National. This is a close second and I NEVER thought that would be the case! The layout is challenging but extremely fun, and the conditions are better than places like tapawingo, Aberdeen, pevley farms, Annbrier is comparable but not near as fun of a layout. Greens were running about the same speed as gateway (which I played Saturday, played this course Tuesday) I can not give enough stars for this course!!! So happy they opened it back up. Also the staff working were phenomenal as well! Josh, who I believe is running the place, is such a nice guy and you can tell he genuinely cares about the place! If you’re anywhere near the STL area I HIGHLY suggest getting out to this track!

One of the best public courses in the St. Louis area, Crystal Highlands was stuck in purgatory as a Union Pacific executive retreat for nearly 20 years... but it's *finally* been sold by UP and reopened to the public by its new owners. These owners inherited a gem of a course in absolutely excellent condition as of early August 2021 thanks to very little play over the past few years. It's a bit out of the way, but well worth the drive.
