Every time my trainer leaves, my workout buddy and I turn to each other and say, "He's so great." Since starting training, I have graduated from physical therapy, which I went to once a week for 10 years, and during which time my back would seize up if I missed an appointment. Now, nothing! I've also gotten twice as strong, which I know because my trainer keeps an excel spreadsheet tracking my progress. Regularly, he shows me a new exercise and I think "I absolutely cannot do that" and then I do two reps of 20. But also, it's somehow a manageable workout and not absurdly difficult, which is important to me as someone whose natural state is lying down eating candy. Seriously, these guys cannot be beat!!! They are the best, best, best. Book it!

I have been receiving individual physical training from Ben Smith of FFW for nearly a year. I am nearly 82 years old, with a variety of typical physical problems of aging — an arthritic knee, spinal stenosis, piri formis syndrome, sciatica… yet fairly mobile and active for my age (walking a minimum of 8,000 steps a day, 7 days a week). My geriatric physician urged me to work with a professional trainer to address my issues (and others she suggested). It was my very good fortune to get a recommendation from two friends in medical professions who were working with Ben. He has been simply outstanding.
Ben drives to my home for each workout. He has listened carefully to my problems, and he has always been attentive to them, both with exercises that focus on them and with care not to press some things too much. His training has been and is a major help to me in keeping a geezer going. (For example and evidence, I must report that his exercises have enabled me to eliminate periodic steroid injections at BJC, where I continue to consult with pain management)
Ben has impressed me from the start by designing a new structure, a new sequence of exercises each time. He has led me to doing more weight, more repetitions, slightly faster times without my really noticing what was happening. And he has done it with such a friendly and supportive personality that he makes it almost a pleasure to ache all over when he drives off to his next lucky client.

This has literally been the only thing that has ever made exercise tolerable for me. I have always hated exercise, and I came to Fitness Friend (aka Ben) for help a few months ago. Now, to my great surprise, I actually look forward to our workouts! Ben is a genuinely kind and helpful person and he goes out of his way to make sure I'm getting what I need, while also keeping it interesting. He comes to me, which has really helped me stay committed to it (it's way easier to cancel when all you have to do is not go). I have been a client of Fitness Friend for a year. As a senior citizen my specific needs are strength training and balance. My trainer has been helping me to improve in those areas. He has a variety of routines for me to follow so that the workouts are not boring and also he has given me exercises to do on my own. During the session he encourages me to challenge myself and he also reports my improvement from the last session. He follows up with me the next day via a text message to see how my body has reacted to the workout. When I'm going to be out of town he offers to tailor a workout for me using the equipment in the hotel fitness center. As someone with previous experience using an "at home" trainer, I can't recommend Fitness Friend highly enough. For each visit, my trainer brings all the equipment needed and gives me clear instructions, including demonstrations, for the exercises designed specifically for that session. The exercises change session to session, so the workouts stay fresh and interesting.

Like any true professional, these guys have made producing consistently fantastic workouts look easy. Their communication is excellent, and they even do workouts over Zoom when I travel. Most importantly, despite getting me to work harder than I ever would on my own, the whole process just feels so comfortable that I have no doubt that it is something I can stick with long term.

You can’t go wrong with Fitness Friend! Ben does an excellent job, and makes exercising fun for both myself, and my daughter with special needs. The name says it all - he has become our friend that we exercise and discuss fitness with.

I never dreamed I would look forward to exercising because I actively avoided it most of my life. I am not good at sports, and have been known to trip over my own feet. The thought of going to a gym was so intimidating that I haven’t been in one since high school. Ben not only gives me the confidence to exercise, but finds ways to make it enjoyable. He has taught me so much about how to exercise and use the correct form.

Ben works with my daughter with special needs as well. He is excellent at motivating her, and is creative when it comes to getting her up and moving. I am amazed at the variety of exercises she willingly does for him! When I tried to get her to exercise, she flat out refused. With Ben she lifts weights, does pushups, crunches, plays baseball, you name it! He is very receptive and sensitive to adapting an exercise routine that accommodates the challenges of someone with special needs.

Having Ben come to our home has been helpful in many ways. It eliminates the obstacle of taking that first step to begin exercising. It is also allows us to exercise in the privacy and comfort of our home. I honestly don’t think my daughter and I could have done it any other way. When he shows up with a smile on his face and equipment for us to use with a workout routine in mind, it makes it so easy!

Ben is very good at discussing nutrition and our overall fitness in a gentle, inspiring way. I never feel intimidated, and know he truly cares about us, and all of his client’s well being and health. He is interested in helping his clients become healthier, not just in their exercise habits.

Ben is the first trainer I have ever worked with...and I can't say enough positive things about my experience. Even though walking has been my only source of exercise for a very long time, I've never had weight problems or considered myself out of shape. I had a health crisis last summer and both my doctor and my children stressed the need for both aerobic and strength training exercise. I've seen Ben twice a week since July and can truly say I've noticed a difference in my strength, coordination and energy.
