Great gym. My wife and I were in town for thw weekend and wanted to get our workouts in. We found Flex via a google search. Getting a day pass, downloading the app, and signing a waiver wasn't exactly user friendly, but easy enough. The gym reminded us of our old school powerhouse gym but with newer equipment. They had a little bit of everything. You could definitely tell it was a legit bodybuilder gym. Had everything we needed.

Be careful starting a membership here, as you dig through reviews you will see it’s a scam you can barely get out of. I started a gym membership here in 2022. My husband and I had our 3rd child unexpectedly this year, and also took in home care of his grandparents who were disabled and one had dementia. They passed at the end of 2022/beginning 2023. I had tried to cancel in the middle of that year but assumed it would stop if I didn’t sign a new contract. I had no idea that 4 years later and never attending (I would not have been able to due to past balance anyway) that it would still be going on. I have over $1,000 that got sent to collections just this year. They did not send any emails until this past tuesday with an invoice stating all of this. I understand collections are said and done. I have tried to get ahold of Jason, I thought surely a business owner will help me? Until I realized there are more people like me, my husband, and his little sister who this has happened to and it obviously paid for his renovation. They don’t care at all. All I asked was for them to cancel it where it is now but I must have a $0 balance and come between 2-8pm on certain days. I would also pay a $300 early release fee. I tried to email Jason and still just got ahold of Shawn or Shane? Who says Jason won’t work a “deal” with me, and Jason hired him specifically to handle this. I don’t want a deal. I want out. I have 3 kids and this is ruining my credit and our future. Over a gym I visited a few times…

I have had a membership here for my business partner and I for over 2 years now. Suddenly this July and August one of my passes stopped working. In addition this month I realized that they had only charged me for half of the normal amount.

I got ahold of them on 8/21 and let them know of the issue. They responded by telling me “We switched platforms for companies that manage the software to the doors. The second person didn’t transfer over due to a glitch in the system”.

Now they are trying to charge me for the previous months of service that this account didn’t have access to the gym! They are also claiming that I will HAVE to pay this fee before we both can have access to the gym.

I tried my very best to talk to the owner Shane about this situation but he refuses to make things right unfortunately.

Incredible gym one of the best I’ve been to yet and I’ve been to many across the country. Flex has an incredible vibe and a vast selection of rare equiptment. Members were friendly and like minded. I highly recommend adding into your routine the Watson TruSquat and the vintage overhead tricep machine. Old school feel hard core no BS bodybuilding gym with any and every piece of equiptment you could want. Next time I pass through I will 100% go to flex.

I signed up with Flex Fitness under a contract that clearly states cancellations can be done through their app. That feature doesn’t work — and when I tried to cancel by phone, I was told I’d have to come in person, despite the written terms.

To make matters worse, they only allow in-person cancellations during limited hours on select days of the week — which is never mentioned in the contract. It's an obvious tactic to make cancellation as difficult and inconvenient as possible.

After submitting a formal cancellation request via email (due to the app being unusable), I received a response refusing to honor the contract. They continue attempting to charge my card even though I’ve fulfilled all membership requirements and followed the process outlined in writing.

This has been a frustrating and deliberately obstructive experience. I’ve since escalated the issue to my credit card company. Be extremely cautious if you're considering signing up — they make it as difficult as possible to cancel, even when you’re well within your rights.

I immediately fell in love with this gym. It has that dungeon-type feeling to it like in the movies. They have machines that I've only seen in movies and documentaries.
The only 2 cons are: limited amount of treadmills, and no sauna. Other than that, it seems to be a great gym to train in.

Outstanding, Hard Core Bodybuilding Gym. This place is amazing and has a ton of different leg equipment. The machines for all body parts are a mixture of new and old school. I didn't see too many people 'surfing on their phones' while sitting on equipment which drives me absolutely INSANE. When I see these people I just tell myself, "Less Competition on stage", they wouldn't understand that comment anyways.

I have been lifting for 4 years now. This gym is by the far the best in kansas city for bodybuilding, powerlifting, and cardio. They focus on bringing in new machines often and have cool machines most gym facilities don’t have. Equipment and environment are A+! The facility is very well maintained and the posing room is really cool! Great variety of machines.

When wanting to cancel my membership for personal reasons, the process requires more effort than any other private gym I’ve been a member of. I cancelled in the app as recommended but I don’t I should have to know it resets if it’s done twice and to make an additional phone call to get it sorted. It adds friction to the process which could see some improvement. My recommendation is to go in person ASAP and have someone lead you through the process so there’s less ambiguity.

I went to this gym the DAY I purchased a membership, should’ve schedule a tour beforehand, because this is NOT a gym I would feel comfortable going to. Nothing wrong with a more grunge, garage style gym, that’s a lot of peoples’ cup of tea… not mine. Not only did I cancel within 8 hours of signing up, they wouldn’t refund the charges on my account. I’m disputing with my bank, but it’s ridiculous that they will allow you to cancel within the DAY YOU SIGNED UP, but then will take away access and ALSO not refund you. Mind you, you pay a MONTH at start up.

I will be making sure anyone I know that considers this gym looks elsewhere. I will absolutely never give a company like this my money, time, or business.

Responding to the owners response: My main issue was the fact that initially my “end date” was the day of cancellation when I paid for the full month. I did not receive any question regarding why I canceled, but the overall atmosphere of the gym is not something I’m comfortable with. I’m sure everyone is welcome, but it’s hard to feel that way when you have a group of muscle-heads staring you down while you’re trying to figure out a machine. Not to offer help, but in a judging, condescending manner. After this I re-racked the weight and made my decision. If I manage to find my way in there prior to the end of that month, I’ll be more than happy to rewrite or delete and re-review the gym to recount a (hopefully) different experience.

On a random Tuesday I bought a membership and I was out of the gym for 2 years prior, everyone has gym anxiety when first starting to work out but the atmosphere really helped. commutative, hardworking, helpful and prideful staff, if you have a problem with ANYTHING they are so quick to help you cause they appreciate there members. Best Machines and equipment to give you the best workout possible. Everytime I step into flex I guarantee a good mindset and a good workout. This is definitely the best gym I’ve experienced.

I can’t say enough positive things about this gym! I joined on a whim not expecting much and it far and away exceeded all expectations. The gym is immaculate. Coming from One Light, it’s a night and day difference. This gym is 1000% the best gym in KC. Do not even put this gym in the same realm as The Foundation gyms. Equipment is top notch and IF there is ever anything broken, Jason gets them fixed in a timely manner. There are definitely some strict rules, but that’s what makes the gym so good. Stopped by as a guest while in town and the owners treated us like garbage. Bullied/judged our male friend for lifting the same weight as us (females). They kicked us out, due to their big egos and them believing men have to lift more than women. People can choose to lift whatever weight they want no matter what age or gender they are. I have been going here for a month now and at first it was intimidating because literally almost everyone is swole, but I kid you not just a bunch of teddy bears. I've been a member at Flex for the last 2 years. They are constantly improving and upgrading. From new location, new equipment almost monthly and even expanding the current space. The gym is locally owned and really has a family feel to it. Everyone is welcomed and there isn't any cliques which can be hard to find. The gym owners actually listen to members wants/needs and try their best to provide a great gym for us. The gym is always clean and the equipment is maintained. If any piece breaks within a couple of days its fixed. It's really wonderful to call this place home and its truly a gem.

***I am a beginner to the gym/working out.***
So today was my first time going to this gym. I was very excited to go here, I called probably 2-3 times just to schedule a tour. No one ever got back to me, so I decided to go and try it out anyways. So I went straight from work to the gym. I didn’t see a locker room nor a bathroom when I got there. There may have been one but it wasn’t clearly labeled. So I went home and changed, well I bought a day pass so I decided to give it a second chance. Well here’s how it went, as a beginner this is definitely not the gym for you. Majority of people there are very rude, it’s incredibly overwhelming, they didn’t have yoga balls or mats, nor a good place to stretch/roll yourself out. I didn’t see a single person working there. And if there were you couldn’t tell them apart from other people. Some of the positives were it was very clean, TONS of machines, and it’s in a great area. However I don’t think I’ll be returning, really disappointed in this gym.

Doesn't matter how far away you live or how busy your schedule is, you still have to come in to sign paperwork to cancel. Move to another state? Sorry, you still have to come in and cancel. Your membership term is up? Sorry, you still have to come in and cancel. You work during their office hours? Sorry, you still have to come in and cancel. Extremely inconvenient, wouldn't want to join again in the future just for this reason.

Perhaps you could invest in DocuSign so that your members can cancel online.

If you’re looking for a spot to do real work in the gym, this is it. I’ve tried a few gyms out during my time in KC and after the second day I already know this is it. Very kind and inviting guests and staff- which is tough to find with hardgainer gyms sometimes. Reminds me a bit of Metroflex in TX but much cleaner with much higher quality equipment.

I started going to Flex Fitness and training with Jason almost 3 weeks ago. Jason gives you the push you need to meet your goals and also challenge you. The classes on Saturday are amazing and so are the people that attend. Several times on Saturday I was wanting to quit and put down weight but several ladies encouraged me to keep going and to not give up. These are ladies I have never even met!!
