This location has an excellent facility. There is tons of equipment and plenty of space even when it gets busy. There’s something for everyone - at all fitness levels. The manager goes above and beyond to provide an excellent experience. Staff is attentive and helpful. I see the trainers doing exceptional work with their clients. The dry sauna is perfect. The pool always feels and looks clean. Haven’t figured out why the retired crowd comes in and destroys the gym without so much as a wink of conscience conviction to put weights back, pick up their towels, or wipe down equipment. I’m baffled honestly but that is no fault of Genesis’. Just an observation about the culture of folks here in the area. Also, this is the only gym I’ve been to ever that has a lateral elliptical. It is such a rare and useful piece of fitness equipment - I am thankful it’s here.

Genesis continues to disappoint me. I had initially reached out regarding their group exercise privately ages ago, but did not really end up getting anywhere. I had to stop going to this location when they started doing turbo kick instead of fight classes. The classes are still on the schedule listed as "Fight" and if you're at all familiar with fight versus turbo kick, you will know that they're entirely different. I recently saw a new (new to me) instructor on their schedule under "Fight" classes so I thought maybe they actually brought fight back! Wrong. I walked in and surprised surprise - It's turbo kick. I was informed by one of the participants, and it seemed like the instructor didn't really care about the fact that it was on the schedule as fight. Turbo kick doesn't focus on form, which can easily lead to back and knee injuries. When you are doing sidekicks, back kicks, front kicks, etc at a high rate of speed, the instructor needs to be telling you where to place your heels so you're not twisting in the wrong way resulting in injury. They seem more focused on their choreography notes laying on the floor then giving form or technique cues. It's essentially a kickboxing dance format.

If you're interested at all in a multi-modal legitimate FIGHT class, you have to drive all the way to Ward Parkway for a decent instructor. (Shout out to that club because they have stellar customer service and instructors - I have never been disappointed at that facility. Top-notch people there!) Now there's nothing wrong with liking turbo kick, but I would beg Genesis to actually put it on the schedule as turbo kick so that people know what they're actually going to.

Had I not also be totally disregarded at the front desk today, I may not be leaving this review and instead could be inside talking to somebody right now about this situation.

I am extremely upset and disappointed with the lack of respect and professionalism at this gym. On multiple occasions, the male cleaning crew and even a male front desk employee have entered the women’s locker room without any announcement or warning.
This is completely unacceptable. At most gyms, the policy is very clear: employees must announce their entry into a locker room and, for cleaning or maintenance, be accompanied by a staff member of the same sex. This basic standard protects members’ privacy and creates a safe environment. Unfortunately, that policy is not being followed here.
Women using the locker room deserve to feel safe, respected, and assured of their privacy. Having male staff walk in unannounced is not only unprofessional but deeply uncomfortable and inappropriate.
Management needs to address this immediately by enforcing proper locker room entry procedures and training staff to follow them. Until this is corrected, I cannot recommend this gym to anyone who values their privacy and safety.

Don’t need to be questioned and belittled when cancelling a gym membership. I had to cancel because I had a newborn this year and barely have time to even leave the house and have decided to workout at home for a few years. Funny thing is, I was just going to only cancel for a few years and then try and come back, but after basically getting a “lesson” from the manager on why I shouldn’t cancel I will happily never come back. Was basically interrogated. I don’t need to give you a whole explanation on why I’m cancelling. Oh and you will have to be in person to cancel and there will be a 30 day notice.

Once you come in I was asked if “I really think it’s a good idea to stop exercising?” I said I’m also trying to save money for a couple years, then was asked How much will your home gym be? “Sounds expensive, in this economy rates will only go up so you should stick with your plan”.

Felt lectured on my personal life and finances. Last I checked this is America don’t need to be lectured on a membership decision. I get the whole try and keep a customer but maybe train your team not to sound condescending.

Really like this gym, but would be great if other gym goers were more respectful. Frequently find that other people do not unrack their weights and reset things as they found them, it’s disrespectful, especially to women in the gym who aren’t lifting the same large amounts of weight that men leave behind on racks. Frequently out of towels at this gym as well, or told they’re being cleaned and it’s the middle of the afternoon/evening.

The condition of the parking lot is so dangerous. Last night I slipped, hurt my wrist but managed to catch myself on a nearby by car before hurting myself really bad. Unfortunately, I watched another woman leaving the gym, slip and fall on her stomach. She was carrying a small child. I moved to Missouri almost a year ago and was on the hunt for a great gym. After a quick search on Google, I found Genesis Health Club, and it has been an incredible experience ever since! I’m a 5:30am gymer , (I don’t even know if that’s a real word. I’m like 63% sure I just made that up) anyways morning energy here is unmatched. Norman is always there to greet you with a warm welcome, ensuring everything is running smoothly, from towels being stocked to offering great advice when needed. One of the best gyms in Lees Summit, very nice staff, and equipment. I’ve been a member for about a year, coming to this location since May and even though I live closer to Ward Parkway, I will always come to this location. It’s super clean, like the locker rooms actually smell good, the facility is huge, the employees are consistent and friendly. I love the wide variety of members from competing bodybuilders to grandma and grandpa and everyone in between. You can keep to yourself or find a supportive community. I should mention as woman I do feel safe here even going late at night as the parking lot is well lit and no creepy vibe.

Mikah helped me get back into my pre pregnancy clothes after I struggled for nearly two years to lose weight and keep it off.

After just six months of working with him, I lost 15 pounds and went from 30% to 23% body fat. I was able to fit back into all my pre-baby shorts and even felt good in a swimsuit for the first time in years!

The thing I admired most was that mikah also has young kids. He wasn’t just telling me I had to make time even tho I was trying to balance self care with parenting - he is out there living proof that you can be an awesome parent AND still reach fitness goals.

The HABITS mikah helped me form have helped me maintain my weight for another six months - and as soon as I’m ready to hit another body goal, he’s going to be the one I go to.

Find a gym that does better.

My buddy and I have been going to this gym for several months. Over those several months, my car was stolen, my buddy’s truck was stolen, as well as his wallet and jeans. These happened over three separate occasions, and it was all because their lockers are a joke. I’d say keep valuable items ON you, but again, they stole jeans, you can’t keep anything in there.
Security is awful with low resolution cameras and bad placement. Lockers have a master key that anyone can get their hands on.
The gym does not take responsibility for your stolen items, and evidently, doesn’t do anything to prevent them from being stolen either.

You also have to sign a 6 month contract when you are beginning, so you’re gonna be stuck.

Clement is my guy! The equipment is up to par but the trainers in there not all but a couple of them stare you down and make you feel unwanted. I experience this everyday when I make eye contact with them while working out or walking by.

I have been a member at this gym for 3 years now and I can say that it is objectively the best gym in Lee's Summit. The staff is super nice and considerate, it's very clean for the most part (I understand that cleanliness is a huge factor for some people), the equipment is top notch, and there are plenty of amenities to enjoy such as the pool, smoothie bar, saunas and so on. Out of all the gyms I've been to or associated myself with, the business tactics and membership contracts are the most LEGIT I've ever seen. whether it is 12 months, 6 months, or month to month. Everything is clearly and explicitly stated so you know exactly what you're buying. People give Genesis as a whole a bad name because of two reasons. One, people complain about the most minor of inconveniences and are impossible to please, and two, they sign on a contract they don't read and/or can't pay for. Clement is the CM and he has a respectable name and is the kindest, most legitimate businessman to do business with. Sure, the membership prices are slightly more expensive than most average gyms but if fitness really is a top priority, then the investment is very much worth it in a place like this.

Updated: After weeks of waiting...they came through! Went from "not having room" for the new belt squat to having it tucked nicely into the corner. Wonderful surprise. I'm changing my rating from a 2 to a 5 for correcting the issue, but mostly for Cody's follow up and encouragement. His power lifting event, which I supported, funded the new equipment, made a huge difference in the gym, and showed a level of dedication I've not experienced. Thank you, Cody!

Old Review for reference: Participated/paid into in a fundraising event to get a new piece of equipment at the gym (belt squat). Successful event, very profitable, coordinated by Cody, who is a great asset to the gym. I’m being told by the manager there that there’s no room for a new machine and I’m wondering where all of that money went. There’s a gym two blocks away that has a belt squat. Myself and three others are considering changing gyms just for better equipment. Paying a premium for a gold/platinum level genesis location that refuses to add paid for equipment isn’t making sense to me at this time.

After years of requesting foam rollouts to help me stretch out I'm going to finally give up and purchase my own. I've been paying $109.00 for a family membership for years and you would think that they would be able to get a few but no.
What pisses me off the most I think is that a majority of the men's lockers are locked up with only about 20 men in the gym and that the facilities rollers are probably locked up in there. I've tried to get to talk to a manager multiple times times but always get the same answer, he's not here.

Made a 5 star rating before because they gave me a free shirt. This place is pretty rough, the bathrooms are constantly soaked in unrine, to the point that the floor is sticky. Everything looks like it gets wiped down with a dry rag every couple of days. They don't even have enough clips for the number of barbells in the gym, so if you are trying to lift heavy while it's busy, good luck finding any. The staff is actually still pretty good and helpful, and they're always nice, I just don't think that the price is fair. Plus, they have a different sale every month that makes you feel like you're getting a good deal, but in reality, they just hike up the price to take a few bucks off and make it seem like a sale. On top of that, they way oversell to people, so it's constantly as crowded as can be unless you can take off work. I'm not saying don't go here, I'm just saying, know what you're getting into.

The gym is typically pretty busy, but even with that being said the machines and equipment I want for a particular workout are always open. It’s always clean and they have the best cardio area in lees summit.

Great staff! Great facility and great location! The convenience of sauna, steam room and protein/smoothie bar all in a great gym was such an easy decision. I’ve been a gym goer for years but actually feel like Genesis has motivated me to tap into a next level of fitness within myself.

This gym has a great amount of equipment and machines. The staff is also very friendly and welcoming. My biggest complaint is the overall cleanliness of the place. The amount of chewed gum on the ground at the entrance is disgusting. All of the machines have quite a bit of dust on them and it seems the supplies/sanitary items are never fully stocked. I’m really hoping this improves over time.

The gym isn’t bad when it comes to equipment. HOWEVER, for being as expensive as it is… there has never been a time I have been in the men’s restroom and more than one paper towel dispenser was working or had paper towels in it. Also, the toilets are always clogged. The upkeep of the gym, specifically the bathrooms needs to be improved drastically.

Genesis as a club is horrible! They don’t care about their members, they just care about making money! The management is super stand offish and extremely unprofessional. Been a member for 2 years and the level of disappointment just keeps growing by the day. Wouldn’t recommend these clubs to anyone.

Great facility, sketchy practices. Uncomfortable first interaction. Travel a lot so have to jump gym memberships often. Called for prices. Couldn't figure out if they were incompetent, unprepared, or just sketchy salespeople. The rep I spoke with wanted me to come in and refused to give me details over the phone. Trying to get info online is a chore. I'll look elsewhere.
