The best part about Genesis is Sam who leads the kids club. As a parent, having a gym with a daycare took precedence over any other factor ( equipment, location etc). Sam has made the daycare so amazing, and does an incredible job training her staff. Everyone who works in kids club is wonderful, but Sam has really transformed the team, and I feel so safe leaving my daughter in there with her, while I workout.

Really appreciate the venue and people for a good environment. The only things I would suggest is having employees being more mindful of maintence and complaints. Also having instructors respect time and not start late or let their class go over when there's another class waiting. Plus there's inconsistency where there's instructors teaching the same class but each do their own reps and not following the songs or teaching the same moves. This comes across as confusing and not feeling complete.

Love my gym! The manager, Jorge, handles everything with the upmost professionalism. He is the best! Hayden, my personal trainer is full of knowledge and education that I can use indefinitely. ITS A SCAM, i signed up six months ago every time I go in the pools are nasty.The showers are nasty equipment's nasty and they have so many billing problems.I was overcharged multiple time and then when I was told all I would have to pay was a hundred dollars to cancel, i came in to cancel and then learned.I had to pay for another month after I had already canceled. This is ridiculous, this is the worst gym.I have ever been to. Please save your money and go somewhere else.

I'm making this review after leaving once before for an issue and coming back and hoping it would be resolved but I can see at this point it wasn't both times I was signed up by their manager Derek he lied to me both times on multiple different issues. I am canceling this subscription and I will never come back but let's go ahead and go into some details. They told me if the money wasn't there they wouldn't overdraft it my account they did. They actually went off of my old account. Grab my routing information and pushed it through there which apparently was still in the system from 2021. I signed up October of last year with my card only so this wouldn't be an issue but apparently they find a back door workaround if they can. I was also told that I would get a $600 in-store credit towards anything in the gym which was a lie as well cuz apparently that just means four more personal trainer sessions, not anything else. I hope that people read this thing and that you take heed in it and at least if you're going to sign up, find somebody that isn't. Derek

UPDATE 7/30/25 - one year and they still have not fixed the air. It’s currently 88 degrees in the cardio area. It s been hot all summer. This places seems to be set on putting themself out of business. On a Wednesday at 4:30pm you would expect there to be more than 10 cars in the parking lot.

Genesis, unfortunately, falls short in providing a comfortable and well-maintained workout environment. The main issue which they refuse to address is the dysfunctional air conditioning system. This has been an ongoing issue for years and seems to have gotten worse. It used to only get hot in the gym during the summer but now it’s almost always uncomfortable unless it’s cold out. The upstairs as well as the group fitness room are unbearably hot. Group fitness classes are one of the reasons why I’ve kept my membership but when it gets over 70 degrees outside it is not worth being miserable working out in a hot swampy room.
Many pieces of equipment have been out of service for weeks.
Towel service is very spotty and there are rarely towels to wipe down equipment.
Overall, while Genesis Gym may have potential, its failure to address fundamental issues like air conditioning and equipment maintenance greatly diminishes its appeal. Until these issues are resolved, patrons may want to explore other fitness options in the area.

If I could give them 10/5 stars I would. Derek was the one who convinced me to come in and start a membership. Both gyms are clean and are a comforting environment to lift in. The above and beyond though goes to the ladies working the child care section at both locations. The Northside is great but the Southside treats my kids like their own, I have an immunocompromised 3 year old with ALL cancer. I have not once felt more comfortable dropping my kids off anywhere for two hours. My boys love it and I'm not great with words but watching them do something together that keeps them involved brings a tear to my eye. I'm beyond impressed with Genesis. You guys have my forever loyalty. No doubt. Thank you guys!

I have brought this to differnt staff members attention to no avail. So unfortunately now its time to go public.The equipment is kept in fair shape it works most of the time. But when something does break it's broke for a long time. The gym itself is dirty. Mainly the locker rooms and steam and showr areas. I can't speak for the wemon specific areas but the men's locker room, shower room,and steam room are horrible. I actually took pictures in the steam room of mold growing in it and showed it to staff as well as brought them into the room to see it first hand. I have mentioned it to staff over and over again. Doesn't seem that anyone is really concerned with it. I don't understand why the steam room cannot be cleaned at least every other day if not daily. They shut it down every night. Seems like laziness to me. But its forsure unsanitary at the least. Also the light in the men's steam room has been hanging and falling out of the ceiling for over 2 weeks and has not been repaired. So sad because I like the gym itself but it seems as if no one really cares about the cleaning aspect or the maintenance aspect of keeping things up properly. Plus half of the lockers don't work properly. And they either won't run the air conditioning or it doesn't work one or the other. I am seriously considering finding another gym because no one is interested in addressing these issues.

Worst management I have ever dealt with. I was robbed TWICE and lost my stuff from locker room with locks INTACT when admin came to investigate. They promised refund complete or for partial items and this never happened, proved to be a complete lie. Yet, when I negotiated to waive the contract cancelation fee, they said they will get hurt! I couldn't wait to pay that fee in order to just leave and never have to deal with them again!. What hurt most was the sentimental value of some of the items stolen from me, rather than the monetary value. This is not a loyalty program to establish relationship with. All of the above happened inside 5 months period since joining!

I go in strong, come out stronger with all the variety of equipment at my disposal.The staff gets to know you as you get to know them.Which makes it more than comfortable to ask for anything you may need.Not to mention, price point is affordable and comparble to others who offer much less activitie's.They have many layers of entertainment for any particular personality.Once you experience the divertion it becomes almost addictive.

I visited the battlefield location, I enjoyed the gym and the employees were friendly and helpful. That being said I probably won’t go back to this location solely based on the actions and behavior of their manager Lindsey. I witnessed her talking down to and snapping at employees. They do not care. All you are is a pay check. If you have health issues they do not care. I had to finish my contract then charged me a month to month after I said I was no longer physically able to make it anymore but again did not care. When I was able to go I can not count how many times the steam rooms were down. Or just get ignored by the trainers even if you pay for an hour. For my hour I got his story of how hard his life was and how all that he has to do to keep going. I go to the gym for me NOT FOR THEM.

Our family recently checked out Genesis using a pass, as we were trying to find the "right fit" for our fitness needs. We really liked it. It was clean, ac recently fixed, kids zone was great fo our little one, equipment was diverse. Over-all it was an enjoyable experience and the employees were great, especially Jake. I was a member of Genesis about 5 years ago before I moved, just prior to the Covid outbreak. Over those years I gained a LARGE amount of weight, including severe heart, back, hip, and leg problems - thank you Covid.
My doctor said I needed a hip replacement, so I came back to Genesis, because they have a large pool, and put myself to work.

I've been back a little over a month and have lost nearly 40 pounds!!!
In part, due to working out in the water and changing my eating to very healthy.

I could NOT have done this as quickly, effectively, or as easily had it not been for the Staff and Clients of Springfield, MO Genesis Health Club (South).

In every aspect, the Staff have been 100% encouraging, supportive, assitive, and friendly.
Due to my poor health, and a couple hospitalizations, the Staff have gone far out of their way to ensure I got the medical help I required - calling 911 and being by my side until on my way.

They welcomed me back, literally with open arms, and have encouraged me to take it easier and giving me incredible ideas to get more out of my workout, without my causing more harm.

The clientele have also been immensely supportive and encouraging on my way to a healthier body and lifestyle. I have sensed or experienced absolutely NO judgment or my feeling out of place - I'm a big guy with self-esteem issues.

I truly and sincerely cannot thank all the Staff and Clients here, because I know that I will continue towards my goals, surpassing and reaching for new ones along the way.

Trial user review - The gym is poorly managed and maintained. Although the gym could be a great gym (good setup, a lot of space) if proper people were employed there.
- The WiFi is not properly setup and you will not connect beyond main lobby.
- Half of the showers are working
- Steamroom is not working
- Some of restrooms have no locks
- Aggressive attempts for membership signup: even after my comments regarding above issues, marketing guy did not care and just pushed me to sale the membership since I have only one day to decide about a discount

Genesis has made some effort to repair the equipment, but as usual, they’re trying to be cheap about things and taking as long as humanly possible to fix obvious issues.

The air conditioning has been a hot mess all summer, especially in the cycle studio. Trying to spin when the room is 85 degrees is unacceptable and I hope they realize their lack of proactive action on this represents a legal liability if someone has a health issue because of it. The AC has failed at least twice a year for the past several years and is usually offline for weeks at a time. Now they’ve supposedly “fixed” it multiple times this spring and yet it keeps failing. All I hear is “equipment/parts are on order” or “we’re waiting for our tech to come from Wichita.” Uh, what? Waiting for a tech from Wichita? There are plenty of HVAC contractors in Springfield that could have it fixed in days….

Meanwhile two of the three bathroom stalls in the men’s restrooms don’t have locks. All I get when I complain about it is a shrug and that it’s up to corporate to fix it.

Come on Genesis, you seriously can’t trust your local staff to call a reputable maintenance company to fix things in a timely manner?

Going during the day is great. Nice people, clean machines, and supportive attitudes. However I’m there usually towards the evening and the steam room is almost always shut off before posted time and the staff is just rude. Literally a night and day difference. 05/03/2024 Please get the temperature issue fixed. It's been on 81 degrees HEAT for the past week. Too hot and uncomfortable to workout in.

I am changing my review back to 5 stars. There was a unit down, and it was covered in 2 inches of ice. That's why there was a temperature problem for so long in the gym. I messaged and emailed the gym about it. They responded back very quickly and started fixing the problem. If that's the only problem they've had out of the 11 years I've been there, I'd say they are doing a great job.

I have been coming to the gym since January. Started with the 3 free training with Lindsay Kyle. Did my own thing for a month and decided I just wasn't getting the results I wanted. Lindsay is now my personnel trainer 3 days a week this is my 4 week and she knows what I want and she has helped me so much and she pushes me how i needed to be pushed. I can't wait for the next session. I have been going to the gym 5 times a week for two months now. Tell the trainers what you want your goal to be and they will deliver.

My experience at Genesis Gym has been a journey of mixed emotions, from the initial warm welcome by the friendly staff to observing areas that urgently require improvement. The gym's equipment, while generally satisfactory, needs attention, with several pieces awaiting repair or re-upholstering. This issue signals a gap in the maintenance routine that, if addressed, could significantly enhance the workout environment.

The state of the bathrooms and lockers further underscores the need for a stricter cleanliness and maintenance regimen, with the sauna / steam room being constantly out of order, many lockers out of commission and the bathrooms falling short of expected hygiene standards. Moreover, the sauna / steam room area has become a venue for behaviors and incidents that might raise eyebrows, including health concerns that cannot be overlooked. Such observations, along with the apparent high turnover in management since my sign-up ( I could be wrong on this), introduce a sense of instability within Genesis Gym's operations.

A particularly pressing issue is the absence of a clear mechanism for members to report concerns or undesirable behavior. During my visits, I witnessed concerning incidents in the sauna, including severe coughing fits leading to vomiting and instances of inappropriate behavior, loud obnoxious people, etc. These situations, coupled with a lack of guidance on how to address them internally, left me feeling helpless and concerned for my own and others' well-being.

Genesis doesn’t take care of their facilities. Numerous bikes are broken in the cycle studio, tons of out of order signs on the cardio equipment, and the pads on the circuit equipment are all cracked and deteriorating. I have been a member off & on for a long time. With it being so cold out my pipes are frozen. I called tonight asking how much it would be to take a shower. ($20) I didn’t catch the workers name when I hung up. He then called me back saying I could come in & shower for free. He didn’t have to do that at all. Sherry the manger was so kind & helpful. She said to take as long as you need. Neither one of them had to be that generous, & kind. Thank you to all the staff that were so friendly.

Facility badly in need of an update. Broken equipment, dirty & torn carpet, broken lockers, no heat in the winter (for last couple of years.) always smells dirty and musty. I had a fantastic trainer but I couldn't continue in the cold and filth. I hated leaving such a great trainer but the lack of investment in the facility left me no choice.

I have been a member for roughly 5 or 6 years.
The instructors are wonderful and the best thing about this place.

As others have commented, there is still an AC issue in one room since about May of 2023.

The hot tub has been down since at least August of 2023. I called today to ask if it was still down, and the response was, "The answer is no, and for a formal explanation, I can ask the General Manager the next time I'm in.

I pay a lot each month. I paid my maintenance dues in June or July, so I'd just like the maintenance to be done.

I don't have the desire to speak to the manager as I may be too passive, so I'll just continue to leave reviews.

I have worked out at this location since it was owned by Bill and Darlene Anderson. From the time that it was owned by Genesis, many improvements were made. It has more classrooms, an upstairs, larger swimming pool, and much added equipment.
I find all of the staff to be friendly and helpful. The trainers and instructors, as a whole, are very competent.
Many members do complain about how long it takes for a broken machine to be fixed. Also, the televisions on screens and also on machines are periodically out of order.

I was never shown around and have been here at least 5 times without checking in at all because no one would even give me a keytag until I had been coming for about 2 months. The upstairs cardio floor is disgusting. It's hot and the equipment and floor are rusty and not one TV in the place works properly. Every time I go to the weight floor I feel like I'm being pushed out by one of their trainers training someone else. The employees of this place seem to be pointless. If there was another gym open 24 hours near me I would go to it.
Edit: It's been 6 weeks and the hot tub is still broken, which was a big part of why I chose this gym. Thanks for calling my mom for whatever reason but how about you just fix it instead?

Love this gym, but all of the lockers are always locked, even when nobody is here. Can you please have somebody come through and open these lockers? Every time I come in I have to scout the locker room for a locker that I can use! I will happily change my review to 5 stars when this happens.

Edit: within days of posting this review with 2 stars, all of the lockers were, indeed, unlocked. Not only that, but the lockers are regularly unlocked. 5 stars well deserved!

Unfortunately the only reason I go to this gym is the classes. The instructors are great, I can't say the same about everything else.
The facility is so gross. The locker rooms ceilings have brown spots everywhere. There's dust/grime/dirt anywhere I look. I don't let myself take my shoes off and touch the floors anywhere. On top of that if it's not the steam room that's broken it's the hot tub, if it's not the hot tub it's the water fountain. Something is always broke. The ac has been down all summer long. Rows of machines are either broken or super worn down. Pool smells like a lake and the water is some how salty makes me icky just being in the water. Overall this place needs a major remodel/and deep clean. With the money this place charges for a membership they can definitely afford it. Shout out to the day care girls, they're amazing.

UPDATE:
Genesis has a new manager who got in contact with me and made an effort to try and figure things out with me. I appreciate someone caring enough to listen to what I have to say and work on a plan to make things better. Changing review star from 1 to 3.

Beyond amazing environment! Absolutely love the people, and they work with your personal interest. Enjoy this place its one of the nicer gyms I've ever been to. I enjoy all the amenities, and especially the steam room. Sherri the Club manager does an amazing job with the club. She is not only super nice, but she always goes out of her way to make sure that I always feel welcome when I come into the club. This is a great gym! The daycare makes it a great place to work out and they keep kids 6 weeks old and up. Great for postpartum mamas. I signed up to do a free trial last summer and went for a few days but have since entered treatment for severe anorexia. I am severely underweight and it is not safe for me to exercise. I have told them this several times, but they will not stop calling/texting me asking me when I’ll “be back” or “how is that going” or even just “let us know when you’re better.” I will not be coming back because I am currently IN TREATMENT for severe anorexia. Gym is good however parking lot theft and people being careless in the parking lot created a bad experience. No camera's to catch hit and runs ending up costing me deductible on someone who hit my car in parking lot and ran. Now car insurance is a lot higher since it was a non fault accident.
